New to iPad 2.  How to transfer my iPod Touch 1st Gen (OS 3.1.2) content?

Is there an easy way to transfer all my purchases, media, etc...to my iPad?
PC Windows 7. Itunes 10.5.2.
Barring easy a link to a step-by-step guide would be great!
Thanks!

Restore the latest backup you have of the iPod to the iPad.

  • Syncing an old iPod Touch (1st Gen) and new iPad (3rd Gen)

I have an old iPod Touch (1st Generation) which runs iOS 3.1.3, the latest possible for the device. It is synced to my Windows desktop PC. However a lot of apps are not fully updated because the newer versions are no longer iOS 3 compatible.
I am getting an iPad (3rd Generation) on launch day next week and will obviously need to sync it to my PC with fully updated apps, however, I also want to keep using my iPod Touch will all its apps too.
Is it possible to have two sets of apps on iTunes on one PC, one for the old iPod Touch with its older apps and one with the new apps for the new iPad.
I update all the apps on the iPod Touch itself so I never update an app that is no longer compatible with iOS 3.0
The solution I've come up with at the moment is to copy the iTunes folder on to my laptop and use that for one of the devices and use the desktop for the other. But would like to use just one PC if possible.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks

It turns out that I took all the apps off my touch, but I have an iPhone 3 that hasn't been updated in at least six months.  There's got to be something on there that's incompatible with the current iOS architecture, but it's syncing as I type this with no problems.
You've got your iTunes copied to your laptop - why not use the original copy for a little snooping?  I think you'll find that everything works just fine.
BTW, there are several apps in the iTunes library on my desktop that are duplicated.  I never could figure out why, but my guess is that some of them are versions that will run on one handheld and not the other.
    Hope that helps.

  • How DID I get this much data on my iPod Touch 1st gen?

ITunes on my brand new MacBook Pro shows 3762 songs at 62.84 GB with 99.9999% of them being AAC encoded.
My 1st gen 32GB iPod Touch holds ALL of that data, plus 210 apps -- and everything works/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Select any song at random and it will play. Select any app and it will run/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic__ _/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png 62.84GB of songs on a 32GB Touch?? How did I do that? Plus, it STILL has 6.7GB available/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsst atic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png It's running iOS 3.1.3. I've added songs and apps over the years without any problems whatsoever.
My wife has a 30GB iPod Video White (5th gen) -- it has 4342 songs, with 9.4GB still available/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png I loaded everything I had in my iTunes, and she's been adding songs on her own. So hers ALSO has more GBs of songs on it than it was made to hold. And hers works fine as well.
Now we get a brand new up-to-date 32GB iPod Touch 4th gen (Retina Display, FaceTime, etc). It's the latest and greatest (she got it through an employee incentive point plan at Boeing). I wasn't even thinking about how much data was in the 1st gen Touch -- my brain was just saying I've got all my songs and apps in my 1st gen, so I should be able to get all of it in the new 4th gen model. They're both 32GB, and the overhead (system, etc), is almost identical (okay, the 1st gen had 29+GB free and the 4th gen has 28+GB free). Still, pretty comparable.
I tried to sync iTunes with the new 4th gen iPod Touch and it says only about 1500 songs (of the 3762 total) can be loaded. That's it. No more/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png That would also mean NO apps at all.
We tried to get this explained at a One-to-One meeting AND the Genius Bar at our local Apple Store, but NOBODY had an answer.
How is it that my old 1st gen 32GB Touch can hold more than twice the GB of songs AND 210 apps at the same time, and work, while the new 4th gen Touch is doing "sorta" what's expected of it -- that is, running out of space with only 1500 songs
One possibility is that both old iPod's began their lives under iTunes 9.x. But I've updated iTunes consistently as it has moved into v10 and both older models have had apps and music added using whatever the latest version of iTunes has been released.
Could that be the reason? Has anybody heard of this before? Can anybody explain it? The guys at the store were stumped. So am I. They "apologized" and said they understood how we felt, but there wasn't any resolution to the question. Other than -- DON'T mess with the old models as long as they are working Yeah, but I'd like to see the NEW model behave the same Wouldn't we all?

No, the option you mention is/was NOT checked. When I talked to two people at the Apple store (One-to-One) and the Genius Bar, they said that it was correctly set (that is, NOT checked), considering the files were ALREADY AAC encoded.
As I posted, pretty much all of the songs are already encoded as AAC files. They have all been captured off CD's in that format, or purchased from iTunes in that format. They were transferred to the 1st gen Touch in that format, and the attempt was made to make the exact same transfer to the new 4th gen Touch in the exact same format -- with the result that barely half would transfer over to the new Touch.
One would think that it might be set one way for the older model and one way for the newer, but that's not the case. As an FYI, I DID try checking that option after the first failure of getting everything to load, but it didn't make any difference.

  • Dropped my ipod touch 1st gen on the floor and now it completely doesn't work. Since the first generation is discontinued, could I exchange it for a newer version?

My iPod Touch 1st Generation fell off the bed and now does not work. The screen didn't crack or anything but it won't turn on or do anything. I tried resetting it but that did not help at all. The computer recognizes when the iPod is plugged in but the iPod does nothing. I was wondering if I could exchange it, but since the 1st gen iPod is discontinued, could I exchange it for the newer version? Or even just return it?

You can only turn it into your local Apple store to be recycled for a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.  That's it though.

  • CANNOT RESTORE MY IPOD TOUCH 1ST GEN AFTER UPDATE, WON'T RESTORE TO PREVIOUS IOS EITHER.  hOW CAN i GET IT TO WORK? TO 3.1.1. IOS

My ipod worked until I purchased teh iOS 3.1.1 update from the apple store.  Now my Ipod touch 1g will not even restore to the original iOs.  How can I get it to update to the 3.1.1 version or restoer it.  It worked fine prior to the update.

Just to give you an update, I got the iOS 3.1.3 installed (Even with the error messages 1602 & 1604). This is how I did it.
    1. Turn off all spyware and antivirus
    2. Open ITunes and purchase iOS and download (don't connect you ipod to the computer yet), don't select download and install. Close itunes after download.
    3. My ipod was frozen with the connector and iTunes symbol in the screen, so I turned it off and with the usb plugged into the computer, hold the home button down (Puts it in recovery mode), now connect the end of the sync cord to the ipod, open iTunes and let it boot up.  You should see the message that it found an ipod in recover and need to be restores. click ok and then select update.
    4.  This is where it will update and freeze again in restore. To continue update, leave the ipod connected (Don't touch it at all.  Close iTunes and then reopen it.  The connection should be made the the update should install.
It worked for me, maybe it will fro yo.

  • How to restore/recover ipod touch 3rd gen.

It says "Disabled for 22 million minutes." I followed instructions online and put it in dtf mode or whatever, but nothing pops up when I sign into itunes... Help??

Try this again. It can be tricky to get into recovery and DFU modes
Place the iPod in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

How do we unlock and iPod torch 5th gen if we forgot the code?

Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iPod in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes.

  • Can I use iPad's 10w adapter to charge iPod Touch 4th Gen.

I just want to know is it safe to charge my iPod touch 4 and iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen with an iPad adapter. And will the 10w damage my battery in any way? Thanks!

I found this answer in the Apple Store/Product Details page:           can I use this 10W adapter to charge my iphone or ipod as well?
According to Apple it is at least compatible to the iPhone4: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC359LL/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjA&mco=MTc0NzA4NzA

  • How can I resolve iPod Touch 4th gen charging and iTunes connection issue?

I have an iPod Touch 4th generation and the other day it stopped charging.  When I pug it in, it appears to be receiving a minimal charge to keep it alive, but isn't restoring the battery life and doesn't show that the battery is accepting the charge.  After plugging it in for a day, the battery was only partially charged to approximately 20%.  I've tried several USB cables and different plug-ins to no avail.
Then I tried to connect it to the computer and iTunes doesn't recognize it.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Apple Device Manager and iTunes software, and resetting the iPod.  I've also tried holding the sleep and home buttons at the same time while connecting the iPod to the computer with iTunes software open.  Nothing seems to work.  I have other iPods/iPhones that connect to iTunes without issue, so it is isolated event with this iPod Touch.  I was hoping to restore the iPod to its original settings to see if that would do the trick, but am unable to figure out how without iTunes.  Any suggestions?  help!

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genus Bar of an Apple store.

    and/or
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT5012 How do i upgrade ios3.1.3 to ios4.5 or 5.0 on ipod touch 1st gen

    I cant upgrade past 3.1.3

That's correct; you can't. iOS 3.1.3 is the last version that first-gen iPod touch wil run. If you need to run a newer version of iOS, you'll need to buy a newer iPod touch.
