New To iPod...questions

I'm thinking of buying an iPod so I can download and listen to audio books and radio talk shows while my kids are practicing sports. I'm concerned because specs call for "Windows XP Home or Professional SERVICE PACK 2 or later. I have SERVICE PACK 1. I can't update because other software I use requires SERVICE PACK 1. Will I experience problems? Not be able to download? Will my computer not recognise iPod?
Another question. Which iPod is best for me? I rarely listen to music. Will be listening to longer radio shows & audio books requiring larger file capability.
BTW, I have high speed connection, so downloads shouldn't be a problem.

If you are just running McAfee with updates, and you aren't running any other antispyware software, I'll guarantee you your apple cart has lots of vermin in it. I would update your video editing applications (Premiere?), move up to SP2, and start using antispyware software along with your McAfee.
The huge security holes in SP1 far overweigh your concerns with the updates, or, as I said previously, make this an editing station that has no connection to the outside world.

New/Old Ipod question

I know with my old ipod(20 GB) clicking that it was bad and it normally was not suppose to do that(though over a couple months it did). However, with my new video ipod the hard drive clicked right out of the box. Is this happening to others with the new 60 GB ipods? Is it that its just so much memory it just needs to click? or do i have a defect that will break over time. Any imput from 30/60 GB users would be helpful if not from then from anyone goods too.

It's probably just the disk seeking. I wouldn't worry unless you start having problems.

Welcome to the Apple community.
You might try to see if you can change your security questions. Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account > Password and Security.
I'm able to do this, others say they need to input answers to their current security questions in order to make changes, I'm inclined to think its worth a try, you don't have anything to lose.
If that doesn't help you might try contacting Apple through Express Lane (select your country, navigate to iCloud help and enter the serial number of one of your devices)

I have just received my new 160GB ipod and have a few questions.
1. I have been using a 3rd generation ipod for the past few years. I have an ipod dock that I got with that, can I use that with a firewire charger to charge the ipod?
2. I do not want a big bulky case for the ipod. I have read that the front of the classic does not scratch very easily as the screen is glass. Can anyone confirm if this is true??
I was going to buy some kind of a shield until i read this... do I need one?
- What about the back of the ipod? How could I go about protecting this? Does anyone know if the Belkin protective overlays for ipod video fit? (Shown here - http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=257250).
I have ordered some ipod socks off amazon (found some very cheap if anyone is interested - shown here http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0007TXTB6/). As I don't want a bulky case, will these protect my ipod enough?

Jake, you can charge with a firewire cable but you won't be able to sync or transfer.
The Classic has a polycarbonate screen. Only the iPhone (Touch?) has a glass one.

Question about the new 160GB iPod classic? ("whir" noise?)

I just received one of the new 160GB iPod's for my birthday and I've noticed the faint “whir” or “whistling” others have talked about. I read many accounts that the noise is due to the HD and that it's happening with all of them, but can anyone link to me something that states exactly what's going with it? Or explain it at least?

Only apple can do it... And this is new with the latest 160GB editions...
The only thing you can do is hope that a firmware update can address this, but since it's related to the HDD I don't know if that's even possible.

Error message on a new 2GB ipod?

Okay, dont laugh (if it is stupid question)
But when i connect my new 2GB ipod to either of my 2 computers i get message with a triangle like on this picture:

Ok. Here's the results. I tried all the music videos I wanted to put onto the IPod and the results were:
I was able to get good results with 2 full length music videos and 2 video singles(only 2 videos on each disk). For a total of 4 videos.
I was able to encode 5 full length music videos, but the results were distorted (video and audio).
I was unable to copy 2 full length videos due to error failures. 1 was a "No Title Found" error, the other was a "NAVDAT" error.
I guess my next question is: Do you know of any other program(s) that I might try, to see if I can get good results with the videos that didn't work with Handbrake?

New replacment iPod BROKEN

ok i had a problem with my 1st iPod which was it wasnt connecting to my pc what so ever it would rarely sync and i restore it but it still continued to stuff up so i ordered a replacment since its still under warranty.
and within 3 weeks of having my warranty it is having the same problem i am so sick of this!!!
i meanm i followed how ot add sonmgs and everything and it just stuffs up its so pathetic. im going to order a another one and i got a few questions
do i need proof of purchase for my replacment?
(the onli prrof i have is my first iPod's box and docket)
this new replacment iPod sync's more then my first one but i cannot update any of the songs's in iTunes it say's it has copied abouit 400 songs and then i go into my iPod's about screen and it say's 4 songs only.
and also song play back is horrible it skips and it takes about 5 minutes to load a normal mp3 song.
so my point is can i ask for a replacment?

Problems formatting new 20g ipod

I just got a new 20 gig ipod today and installed the software on my pc. it said that my ipod needed to be formatted, so i clicked ok. its been formatting for almost an hour now, and the screen still says 'do not disconnect'. does anyone know how long this process usually takes, or does this sound like it is malfunctioning? thanks.

Although I'm sure you have completed the installation by now, I want to post this for others with the same question b/c I, myself, needed the answer earlier It took approximately 2 1/2 hours to format my 20g iPod for Windows. I do not have a 2.0 USB, though, so it will be faster for those of you who do. I noticed whenever this question is asked, there seems to be confusion about what is being formatted and for what reason. To be clear, I was formatting a brand new 20g iPod during installation for use with Win XP.

New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

Tried to sync iPod Touch, noted "new" iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried the fix, but iTunes hangs when I try to open Preferences.

Just tried to download new audiobooks to my iPod Touch 3, and noted new iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried to Reset Sync History per Support Article, but it didn't work. My purchased audiobooks are also gone from my iTunes Library. Any fix, or is my best bet to uninstall new iTunes and reload earlier version??
