New to itouch

i just bought my itouch, and when i switch on the device, it prompted me to plug in to itunes directly. so i downloaded the latest version of itunes and plugged my itouch in. However, it cannot be detected either as an itouch on itunes or a hard disk drive on my computer. instead, itunes prompts me with this message: ""This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again."
i have deleted, and reinstalled itunes for 3-4 times including restart but the same old thing keeps happening. what should i do?

Make sure the itunes you are installing is the correct version, there are 32-bit and 64-bit versions

  • New 16GB iTouch - cannot manually drag/drop songs

I just purchased a new 16GB iTouch this past wkd from the Apple store. (As background I have previously owned the 1st generation and latest iPod nanos). After reading some of the posts, I decided not to upgrade the software to v3.0.
I connected the iTouch to my computer, and it is recognized by iTunes. I unchecked any related "automatically sync" features and made sure that "manual sync" was turned on. However, I still cannot seem to "drag and drop" songs from my Music Library to my iTouch; I also cannot "drag and drop" any of my playlists. I have not even tried to bother with my photos. Also, please note, my iTunes works just fine with both of my iPods.
Please help!!! Am I having this problem b/c I am not upgrading the iTouch software to the new version?

roaminggnome - thanks for your quick reply. Apologies, I should have been more specific in my post. So that my songs would not be automatically synched, I had previously checked the box under devices/my ipod/summary/manually manage music" - I also had done so for both of my old iPods.
I already downloaded the manual and read thru a bunch of older posts and I could not find any reference to this "drag/drop" issue.

  • Brand new ipod/itouch 4th generation won't connect to available hm wireless

I have a new 4th generation ipod touch. I also have a new computer using windows 7. I have set up the computer and wireless is working great. I have set up and synched the ipod to itunes without problems however, I cannot connect to my home wireless network. I have done the network reset. There is no option to "forget this network" that comes up when I click the arrow. I cannot access the support document that you provide in other links because it says it is "damaged". I have my wireless network password protected but my itouch will not accept the password. I know the password I am entering is correct because I used it to join my new computer to wireless and that worked fine. I have tried about 20 times to enter the password so I know that it is correct and it will not join. Please help.

I've looked at those documents...that's how I knew to try all of those other fixes.
It is a linksys. That should not be an issue...as I said, it works fine with my brand new Asus Windows 7 computer.
    A few things:
If you have read the Apple documents why did you say, "I cannot access the support document that you provide in other links because it says it is 'damaged'."? Also, who is you ?
Testing the iPod Touch WiFi on another network will give you a baseline as to whether the WiFi in your iPod Touch is working at all. If it doesn't work on other networks then it may need service/replacement.
What model Linksys router do you have? What kind of security are you using WEP, WPA, WPA2? How is it configured? (see my previous post for what's relevant). Is it 802.11g?, 802.11n? Do you have the latest router firmware?
Note also that just because one device seems to work OK on a WiFi network doesn't prove that the network is golden. Not all devices use the same features of the Wireless 802.11g/n protocols. Low-power devices are different than desktop computers.
Have you tried testing with security turned off? (This check is suggested in the Apple documents).

  • Notifications do not work for news on itouch 4G

Anyone know how to fix notifications on itouch 4G. This is my second one and once I got notification with CNBC RT then nothing. Notifications from other news never worked. I exchanged the itouch for another one and same thing. Other people I know said the same thing. Apple store no help. I have Itouch 2G and receives 100% all news notifications while the 4G sitting right next to it is totally silent. They are set up the same so I know how to enable it of course. New firmware does not fix the problem. The push notification test app does work. Latest OS is 4.3.1. Apple keeping silent on this defect since no one in Apple store knows anything about it and can't fix it. All background apps are closed also as they tried to tell me the multi task is using to much resources.

This is because invitations sent to your iCloud account ([email protected]) are actually going to your GMail account ([email protected]). Sort of a catch 22 with having an iCloud account that doesn't utilize an @icloud address.

  • I cannot connect to the internet in my home with my new 4g itouch and new d link router

I have gone to the router manufacture and walked through the set up, no luck.  I tried the troubleshooting pages for the itouch.  I am still shut out.  I see the ssid and the lock I use the password still no luck.  It works in other locations, but downloads are slow.

    - Try resetting your iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Transferring music from 3G itouch to new 4G itouch

i've been attempting to do this all day but i noticed that the older ipod is running iOS 4.x.x and in order to update i would probably lose all my music, but i know that i can't back up my ios 4.x.x ipod and restore it to my new 4th gen which runs ios 6.x.x...or can i?

    See:

iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.

  • My brand new laptop won't even recognize a new device (iTouch)

I just got a new Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista 32-bit OS for school, and it wont recognize a new device when I plug in my iPod Touch. My iPod doesn't even say it is being charged. I tried every USB port on multiple devices, so I know they all work. Also, when I plug it back into my old computer where I first synced it, it works just fine. Help me please, I can't go off to school without being able to use my iPod, it was quite an investment.

    I fixed it. It's a long story.
When I first installed iTunes, whenever it was running, every seven seconds a message would pop up saying 'AppleMobileDeviceHelper' was malfunctioning, or something of the sort. So I got sick of it, found the program in "Program Files" and uninstalled it. Well, I have been hopelessly browsing through all sorts of iPod help files on the internet, and one said to try to reinstall iTunes, and mentioned the AppleMobileDeviceHelper, which sparked my memory of deleting it, and led me to believe it was my problem. So after uninstalling iTunes, I went back to reinstall it, and saw it gave the option of "Windows Vista (64-bit)" or "Windows XP or Windows Vista." When I first installed it, I had no idea there were multiple kinds of Vista, so I must have automatically just picked the first option, bringing the weeks of distress.
Boy do I feel dumb, but hopefully people can learn from my mistake.

  • WRT54G and New Ipod Itouch

I have seen similar posts but my situation is a bit different. Using a WRT54G router, no WEP, no WPA but I am using MAC filtering. With MAC filtering turned off the iTouch works perfectly, with MAC filtering enabled the iTouch will not connect to my netwrok even though I have added the iTouch's MAC address to the list of allowed devices.
    Suggestions?

    Verrify the mac address carefully.

  • Big Friday's New Software Has Made My iTouch Useless!!!!!!!

    Hello,
I purchased an my 16GB iTouch when they were first released (I was one of the first ones on the waiting list). I have had my iTouch all of this time and never had a problem. Then I read about the new iTunes software and the new Apple iTouch software that was released on Friday, Sept. 12th and was excited about the new features that I read about. Well I downloaded and installed the software and ever since my iTouch is not recognized by my Windows XP Dell. I have not made any changes to my PC nor have I added any new software for months. But now if I plug in my iTouch, the iTunes software will automatically launch but it will never recognize my iTouch. I have spent the entire day today reading through forums and trying ridiculously long uninstalls/reinstalls, updated drivers, working with device manager, stopping and starting services, etc. I have completely uninstalled every Apple application from my PC including Safari and Apple Mobile Device and then I reinstall Itunes (I have done this entire process twice). My iTouch is still not recognized. I have spent 25 years in the IT department of my company and I have never ran into something as frustrating as this which was obviously caused by the new iTunes 8.0 software installation. I guess I should have waited until Apple allowed all of their users to debug their software instead of doing it themselves before they released it to the public. If anyone has any idea at all about how to get my iTouch recognized in iTunes I would greatly appreciate it. Please note that I have already tried most everything that I have read as a possible solution. The only thing I have not tried is to uninstall iTunes and then try to find a copy of an older version of iTunes to install. I cannot believe I have wasted an entire day and made a $300+ piece of hardward useless due to a installation of the latest version of iTunes. And to think I was on the verge of buying the newest 32GB version of the iTouch!

I had a similar issue with a new iPod Touch 2G, so I am spreading a very general message to a couple of threads to help whomever I can. My iPod Touch wasn't detected in iTunes, but Windows was detecting it as a Digital Camera, it seems to be a driver problem. First search in Windows for the driver USBAAPPL.SYS you may need to enable searching for hidden files and folders. Most likely you have a driver dated at the time of an iTunes 7.x upgrade so it should say July, August, or whatever. This needs to be the upgraded to the driver produced in September, therefore most of your Apple Apps should come out. I went to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and took out iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, MobileMe (don't know how that got on there) and Bonjour. Afterwards I did a reboot to lose any temporary files and then did another search for the USBAAPL.SYS driver. After all instances were gone from iTunes and the windows/system32 directories I did an iTunes reinstall. Search for the driver again and the date should be something like September 10th

  • ITunes thinks my new iTouch is my old iPod

I received a new iTouch and when I first connected it to iTunes I accidentally didn't rename it. So now iTunes thinks my new iTouch is my old iPod. So when I started syncing it, it looks as though my new 64gb iTouch only has 32gb. How do I make iTunes recognize my iTouch as something new? I was scared to do restore because I thought it might restore the old iPod settings and not the new iTouch settings.

    Hello noonie23,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How you sync one iPod should have no effect on any other iPod you may be syncing to the same iTunes library.
I think at this point it would be best to restore the iPod via iTunes, name it to whatever you like, then sync away. Not sure why only 32 gb is showing though.

  • Why is it that no sooner do I update my iTouch 3G 32GB to iOS 4.3.5 that suddenly I can't use Wi-Fi anymore? The bar is greyed out and says "No Wifi". I can't use bluetooth either.

Is Apple not worried about the older models or what? My iPod was perfectly fine up until the 4.3.5 update. Now, I've lost about three or four $4.99+ games that I can't redownload for free, a whole music album, and I can't use wi-fi or bluetooth. I can't send in my iPod to get it fixed if that's the problem because my warranty's expired. I can't even find out if there is a problem without buying a help session. What's going on? It's almost like I need to buy a brand new iPod, and I don't have $300 to spend because Apple decided that the new iPods are more important than the old ones. Is there anyway I can fix this without downgrading or buying a brand new $300 iTouch?

    Resolution
If you encounter this issue, try the following steps and attempt to enable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth after each one.
Verify that Airplane Mode is turned off.
Update your iOS device to the latest version of iOS.
Reset Network Settings. To do this, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Restore your iOS device in iTunes.
If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on or off after attempting these steps, contact Apple or your wireless carrier for additional assistance.

  • How do I get my Itouch to display multiple calendars

    Hi,
I've just received this new beautiful ITouch 2G, but can't make it work properly. I'd like to replace my palm, but its calendar features don't seem to be very good. What bothers me is that I don't seem to have the possibility to create several calendars as the instructions suggest it is possible.
I have the latest version of ITunes and cheked that everything is up-to-date.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks in advance,
    F

    Welcome to the forums.
Calendaring is great. But, I understand your confusion. I, also, came from using a Palm to using an iPod touch.
You must first create the calendars in your Windows calendar program. For example, if you use Outlook, and you set up various Categories for calendars, these come across as different Calendars in Calendar on the touch when you sync it. (This is mimic how iCal sets it up on the Mac--different calendars vs. categories.)
So, for example, I have 10 calendars, including "Unfiled." And in Calendar, on thge iPod, I usually select "All" to show all of them at once.

  • My itouch keeps freezing

So i just got my new 8gb itouch with my laptop at the beginning of the summer.
Everything was working fine until i got the new 2.0 update then my itouch would randomly start restarting. After Mac released the newest verison 2.0.1 i updated my itouch in hopes that the restarting would stop. It did, but now i have a worse problem, my touch features randomly stop working after about 3 seconds everytime I turn off the hold.
Is this happening to anyone else?
note: i tried reseting my itouch both with its backup and creating a new ipod.

I've sent my itouch 16 back twice because it locks up several times a week. The apple response is "our technicians have performed full diagnostics... we can confirm that it meets apple specs for performance, usability, and function". Sounds like they expect it to not work. No more apple products for me.
