New to iweb

every time i open i web it does not pull up the template pages... i have subsricbed and everything. i can't even add a page. help? does anyone have any answers?

It sounds like all the controls are greyed out. This is, unfortunately, a common problem. There are a variety of ways to fix it, which are detailed on this page. Not every approach works for everyone, but one of them usually does the trick.
Please post back and let us know if one of those tips works for you.
If you are new to iWeb, one good source of information (in addition to this forum) is the iWeb Forum Faq compiled by several of us here and maintained by Varkgirl. Item number 10 of the FAQ lists several other tip sites, too.

Can someone tell me what is new in IWeb latest version ?
are there new features or is it just a bug-cleaning ?
    Thanks

    MacBookPro,
Hi there. If you are talking about 1.1.1 then I think that just fixed the publishing error problems.
If you mean the version before....maybe someone else can jump in and answer that one.

  • New to iweb (and mac) with issues publishing basic site

    Hi All,
I have used one of the templates in iweb. I have changed some of the layouts, fonts (made sure they were web fonts) etc and reasonably happy with how the site looks in iweb.
I have not uploaded the site to the web, I have only saved it to a local directory to view it. I am having issues with the formating specifically the shadows on the boxes
I have just posted the welcome page below (original, mozilla & Safari) and hope someone can let me know what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

Christobel ~ Welcome to the discussions. This is just a tip: Posting large images directly in these forums can make the thread difficult to read — in this case, the thread is wider. However, a clickable thumbnail can be posted without actually generating another small thumbnail image — instead the original is scaled:

The above was posted using this HTML:

  • New to iWeb - Curious about posting a web gallery

So I set up a new page in iWeb, a photo page. In iPhoto, I uploaded my web gallery. I then dragged that gallery into iWeb and the thumbnails were there. When I double click one of them, it takes me to the next page but no image shows up. The title of the image is there, but not the image itself. Why is this?
I then published the page to see what happens. When I went to the page however, my header was there, but no thumbnails.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong here.
The photos are online in my gallery, I've checked that. All is well there.
Why won't they show up my my published site? Do I need to activate them somehow?
    Thanks in advance!

Instead of adding the gallery to a photos page have you tried using the MMe Gallery Widget in the Show Media/Widgets pane?
That will create an object with skimming features that, when clicked, will take you to the MMe gallery online. This demo page has examples: iPhoto/MobileMe Galleries
Otherwise, create an album of the photos used in the gallery and drag that album into the photos page.

  • New to iWeb - publishing to nonMac domain

Hello! I am fairly new to the iWeb page builder and am endeavoring to make a website for my own domain. I am using Verve Hosting as my server, who also have set up my domain as well, so I have an FTP program through them. However, I am encountering some problems when I publish to a folder and then try to upload that folder into my server acct. so I am not sure which end is having the trouble. When I pull up my web address, www.gaslighthotel.net, I get a partial of what I have designed in iWeb, but I dont get the fonts I have used, and each link/text that I have is "underlined" by a filename 'shapeimage10' or some such filename. Is this a problem that needs correctng through my webpage building or is it something I have to do in my files through the server?
Also, the markers for the images I have inserted pop up as outlines and then disappear into the background. I tried saving the file where everything on the page was 'brought forward' but that doesnt seem to have solved the problem.
Any help that someone would be willing to help walk a newbie to this through would be greatly appreciated!

You may want to consider getting an FTP application that is designed to run on your Mac. The ones that are used by hosting services are usually problematic.

  • New to iweb & the web

i have my own website hosted by names.co.uk & my own domain, www.mikehorneweddingvideo.co.uk currently i use front page & upload from there.
being new all things mac i have just discoverd iweb and the templates are very impressive, now i have dabbled and created a four page web looks great, i have saved the web to a file my documents..
WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE..... i have the trial of cuteFTP
do in need to delete all pages at the server at namesco and remove the front page extentions
my next step please as i new to web uploads...

To publish an iWeb created site to your current hosting server use the File->Publish to a Folder menu option in iWeb to publish your site to a folder on the desktop. Then use Cyberduck (free and one of the most recommended ftp apps in this forum) to upload the *contents of that folder on the desktop* to the appropriate directory on your host server. The contents to upload will be the folder with the your site name and an index.html file.
You may not have to delete the existing folders/files as long as you name the site the same. That is name the site so the folder that gets created has the same name as the folder currently on your host server. That will keep your domain name forwarding intact.
If there's any problem delete the folder/files and upload with Cyberduck again. But make sure the folder has the same name as the one you're replacing and you can't just rename it after publishing. It must be created with that name so the index.html file will point to the right file inside that folder.

  • How to publish news without iWeb

    Hello,
I would like to know if we can add news directly from the site without using iWeb, like a comment ??

Rather than use iWeb's blog, you could use a free, web-based blog such as Posterous. Then add their _Posterous Blog Widget_ to your iWeb site via iWeb's HTML Snippet window. Then you could email your "news" to your Posterous blog and it will appear in the Posterous Blog Widget in your iWeb page. In addition to emailing blog entries to Posterous, you can use their web-based blog manager from any Mac or PC.
Alternatively, instead of using Posterous's Blog Widget, you could embed your blog at Posterous into your iWeb page: Click on iWeb's Insert menu > choose +HTML Snippet+ and copy & paste the following code into the +HTML Snippet+ window...
    <iframe height="100%" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width:100%;border:none" src="http://yourblogname.posterous.com/"></iframe>
    ...and click Apply.

  • Can you make a new theme iweb using Iwork o8

Does anyone know how you can make a new theme for Iweb or if its possible using i work o8 . Also is there anywhere you can get new themes

    Hi,
You might have a look at this 11mystics page here
    http://11mystics.com/blog/2007/12/13/customize-iweb-20-themes-and-edit-xml/
and here you can buy other templates
    http://web.mac.com/atomicthemepark/iWeb_Library/Store.html
You could also make something in Pages or Keynote and then copy and paste it to a blank page in iWeb. Anytime you need a page looking like that you just duplicate it and edit its content.
    (easiest way)

  • Any news on iWeb Add-ons/Templates?

Has anyone heard of any iWeb news on future add-ons or new templates?
Love the program...as a switcher from PC that used to rely on MSFT FrontPage, it's a great - but limited - tool.

The only ones I've seen are from
    http://web.mac.com/macezzy/iWeb/macezzy/home.html
Don't know if those would work for you, I imagine we'll see more in the future. Also, Apple might add some in the software update feature. Hope this helps.

  • How do I link my web site to a new computer/iweb versin ?

I have owned multiple computers since putting up my website via iWeb. The original computer is now gone. Non of my current computers host the website any longer. The files are completely on the idisk server thus, I can't edit the site.
How do I get my computer or computers to have access to the "Site" folder in my idisk so iWeb '09 can regain the ability to design/alter the pages there ?
    Thanks.

There is no way to alter your pages using iWeb unless you have copy of the Domain file that was used to create them somewhere. Keeping backups of that file, located in Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb is essential. If you don't have one, you will have to recreate the site.

  • New to Iweb and have some questions

    Hello,
I am attempting to build a website for the first time using Iweb 3.0.2. The first 3 pages of the site were built and uploaded using Iweb. There were some issues that my father-in-law corrected using a html editor on his PC. After making the changes he then uploaded the changes to the site. I am trying to now figure out if there is a way to download the current website back to my Iweb so I can continue to build the website.

No, you can't import the published pages back into iWeb.
Each time you republish with iWeb it will over write the changes your father-in-law made to the code.
You could make a copy of the published code with a free program such as TextWrangler and paste the code you want retained back in to the particular html page after you republish with iWeb. However, this ends up very time consuming, it would be better to get it right in iWeb so that you don't spend so much time with post publishing edits.

  • New to iWeb. Three simple questions, am I able to....

Thanks in advance for some input. 1. Am I able to use a domain name other than what is assigned to me in .mac? 2. If so, can assign another server other than .mac? And...if that is possible I suppose I can use larger QT files, correct? I apologize for my ignorance concerning iWeb, just trying to understand. The bottom line is I would like to use iWeb for its simplicity, but I have a domain name that I must use, and I need to use 4 different QT files that are about 80 megs each. If this is possible, I will concern myself on 'how' to do it later.
    Thanks again,
    Tom

    Hello again,
that would be a question for QuicktimeKirk.
If streaming to you means that you don't need to wait until the whole 80MB loaded before starting playing then that's what it does
Have a look at this website (I don't know who this guy is, I don't know what he's selling, I'm sorry it's the only page I know with a video in it so you can see how it works
    http://web.mac.com/drshawn1/iWeb/Site/DNA%20Kit%20Video%20Demonstration.html
anyway he didn't enable autoplay I think, but you can press play before it is fully loaded and that's the point)
If streaming means to you that people can select a point of the movie and the movie starts playing there without needing people to load the movie before that point then I don't know, sorry. But you can ask QuicktimeKirk...
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • What's new in iWeb'08

  • Published to folder iWeb site always using Times New Roman for every piece of text in published site and not showing the original text style used when building the site in iWeb.

    Dear All
Hello from rainy, windy and cold North East England! I need to ask for your help as I'm new to iMac and new to iWeb and it's frustrating the life out of me!
I'm just beginning to build a website for my business. Previously, I used Frontpage, but it's been that long since I used it - I've forgotten half of it and so, I'm using iWeb instead as it's silly to use an iMac for business but a PC laptop for the website design.
I've got the background image I want on the homepage (beautiful image of a rain forest - even if I do say so myself!) and I'm trying to enter a text box at the lower half of the screen, in the centre of the page saying 'click to enter'. I type in the text, I edit it so as to change it to the font style of my company (Gill sans MT) and then I publish the site to a folder so that I can see what it would look like when viewed via the internet. When I do this - the font changes size to a bog standard size of 'so small you need a magnifying glass to read it', it changes colour from black to purple (which looks disgusting) and it changes font style from Gill Sans MT to Times New Roman.
It doesn't matter if I delete the entire site and start again or delete the text box, and insert a new one. I've googled this subject until I'm blue in the face and I can't find an answer - can anyone suggest anything that will help?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Best wishes,
    Sean.

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: If you don't use  Web Safe Fonts any computer that does not have that font installed  will substitute another font for it and change the look and feel of the web page.
So it's safest to use one of those web safe fonts.
