New to Lightroom 5

I just downloaded lightroom 5...never used it.  How do you save a fixed photo?

The is no "Save" command in Lightroom.
The changes to your photo are automatically saved in the Lightroom catalog (you don't have to turn on this option; it happens automatically), and so any time in the future you return to your Lightroom catalog, you will see the photo with the changes applies.
If you need a copy of the edited photo outside of Lightroom, you would use File->Export..., but most people do not Export every single photo; they only export photos needed outside of Lightroom (e.g. for e-mail, or printing, or web ... but you can do these things from within Lightroom too, and so if you do them from inside of Lightroom, no export is needed)

So where is LR trying to copy the files?  Check your destination in the Import panel at the right.

  • New to Lightroom, problem importing raw CR2 files.

I am new to Lightroom and am having trouble importing my CR2 raw photo files. In the "import" section I select my SD card that contains the raw image files. All .jpeg files on the card show up as thumbnails but the CR2 files show "preview not available for this file." I select one of the CR2 thumbnails anyway, select a destination folder on my external hard drive and click "import." A window pops up that says, "this file is not recognized by the raw support format in Lightroom." I'm using Lightroom 4.4 and am working with a Windows Vista operating system (on an old, junky laptop). My camera is a Canon 70D and am shooting in RAW+JPEG. I also downloaded the Adobe .DNG converter 6.3 to try to convert the files before importing them into Lightroom and it is also not recognizing and importing my CR2 files. Not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

I would recommend downloading DNG Converter 8.2 which is compatible with Vista.
The latest version 8.6 requires W7 or W8

  • I have move all Pic to new drive, lightroom can't find PSD pictures?

I have moved all pictures and LRCAT to new drive, Lightroom can't find any PSD pictures?  Is this a problem with Lightroom?

    1.        I exported all pictures using export as a catalog  to a new external hard drive.  I’m using lightroom 5.  The file was large.  I have about 3000 missing pictures after to import to new drive.  sing find, I try to find the pictures.  I discovered that lightroom could not find any pictures with .PSD extension.  I would go to the prior drive and do a search using window explorer, I would find the picture with the PSD extension and go back to “find” again,  I would get to the correct folder and Lightroom would say there were no pictures in the folder.   I’m using the “!” on the corner of the missing picture to start the “ find”  and I work backwards until I find the correct folder that I identified using windows exployer.  Normally this process works great. Suggestions?

This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

YMMV, of course.<br /><br />However, don't be under the illusion that this 30D calibration is right for all 30Ds. In fact, it may not even be right for teh same 30D under different conditions.<br /><br />To illustrate this, today I photographed the same colour chequer twice and ran the script on both files. Under the studio fluorescents, with a very different illumination level, etc, etc - but the same camera within about three minutes, the same lights, the same colour chequer, and came up with:<br /><br /><TABLE BORDER=1><br /><B><br /><TR><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Item</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Photo 1</TD><br />  <TD ALIGN="CENTER">Photo 2</TD><br /></TR><br /></B><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Colour Temp</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5500</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">5150</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Tint</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">16</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">21</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Exposure</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.6</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">0.7</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">1</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">2</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Red Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">22</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">22</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">24</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">28</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Green Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-2</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">10</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Hue</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-6</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-5</TD></TR><br /><TR><TD ALIGN="CENTER">Blue Saturation</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">8</TD><TD ALIGN="CENTER">-9</TD></TR><br /></TABLE><br /><br />So, this would be telling you that<br /><br />- most things want more red saturation<br><br />- my so-called 6500 K illumination is good in red but off in green<BR><br />- things are never the same twice<br /><br />So while it's interesting to calibrate, if you look too closely you'll  end up wishing you'd never asked. Again, YMMV.<br /><br />Damian<br /><br />PS Not really sure why U2U formatting leaves so much space above my tables. I thought I was being soooo clever, too.

  • I am new to Lightroom 5

I am new to lightroom 5. I am having trouble finding out how to save an edited image in a file. Any suggestions? I have tried looking the the tutorials, but instead of finding my answer, I start looking (and reading) everything else...it is sooo easy to become distracted!

But if you want an edited version of your images for emailing or uploading or simply sharing with friends and family, you can use the "Export" command to do that.
One thing I strongly suggest you read is Victoria Bampton's FREE Quick Start Guide, it contains all you need to know to get you going. And did I mention it was free?

Did you purchased the Full Perpetual License from Adobe for $149.00?, if so then what has happened is that you probably downloaded the Creative Cloud trial version which has now expired.
The license key for the perpetual version will not be accepted to activate the CC version.
Uninstall the existing Lightroom and then download the one available from the link below. The uninstall process will not affect your Catalog, Preferences or personal files but will just remove the application. Install the new download and you license key will be accepted.

load an image and open the tone curve panel (you already did this probably).  at the lower right of the canvas you'll see a button with "!" on it.  click the button to convert to "2012 process".  wait.  when it is done if you *still* don't see the channel dropdown click the "edit tone curve" button to hide the sliders and *then* you should see the channel dropdown.
I found this totally mystifying, but once I found it (luck) I get it...new features, new entries in the database or some other magic.  anyway the video sure didn't give me a hint.
this will be my 5th try posting an answer to your question, hopefully this time it will work, no thanks to support, 5 times resetting the password, etc etc.

  • I'm new to Lightroom.  Struggling with downloading from iPhoto to Lightroom.  Pls help??

I have installed Lightroom@ on my mac.  Trying to import photos which are saved in iPhoto.  Have found your link which says I need to create a master copy and copy to my desktop, which I'm in the process of doing, but: (1) it says it will take 11 hours!  (2) do I have to do this every time I want to access recently added photos to iPhoto??  Basically, I'm trying to find the quickest and most efficient way to transfer my photos from iPhoto to lightroom.  Pls advise.  Thanks. Heidi

No, you do this one time only
By the way, if you're going to use Lightroom, you wouldn't add new photos to iPhoto, you import them into Lightroom.
