New to Logic Pro Need Help

I have had fun fooling around with loops and building songs that way, but I have yet to figure out how to get a guitar input set up. I am using the Apogee interface. I know about setting up the audio in preferences, but after that I am lost. Can anyone give me a hint? It would be most appreciated.

Okay, I have read the manuel stuff. Even taken online tutorials. I am a pretty smart guy, at least that's what others have said. But I just can't figure this out.
Like I said, I am using Apogee hooked up to a fairly new MacBook Pro. I know the hardware is good. I have used the Apogee interface to record onto Garage Band, at least with a microphone. Like I say, I have Apogee set as input in the audio preferences. I arm the track and hit record, the metronome ticks and the track records a blank.

  • New to Logic Pro 8 HELP PLEASE!

    Hello,
I have just recentley purchased Logic Pro 8 and have been amazed with its endless posabilities. I currentley run a sinmple M-Audio USB interface in to my Macbook. I am looking to take my equiptment to the next level and am wondering if anyone has had experience with and could offer suggestions on what new recording gear to purchase.
I realize that I will need to take things firewire in to my G4. Any suggestions on Interfaces, Mixers, Moniters, Computers, Microphones, and any other software would be a great help to me.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Mike

    Some more expensive suggestions:
*Get ADAM speakers, nearfield or midfield, the best monitors I've used in my life ( I use the S2,5A + subwoofer)
*The RME Fireface 800 is a great Audio Interface with very good preamps
*The U87 microphone by Neumann is a great condensor microphone which you can use for all sorts of tasks
*Not knowing what kind of music you produce/make it's hard to give advice on 3rd Party Plug Ins for sound creation and sound processing, if you're into sampling get Kontakt 3 by Native Instruments, Logic's EXS is sort of very outdated, also NI's Reaktor is a fantastic modular app providing you with all sorts of different synths/processors/sample manglers/delay/reverbs and stuff you've never even heard of, you can also build your own Instruments with Reaktor

  • Completely new to Soundtrack Pro - need help for school project

I've never used Soundtrack Pro before, but I need to record and modify some dialogue for a project for one of my classes, and I think that's the only audio program we have on the computers in the lab I'm using.
Can I use Soundtrack Pro to record myself reading lines of dialogue? And then modify the audio tracks? I don't want the characters in my project to sound like me, I want them more high-pitched and cartoonish, like Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, yeah you can select your audio and using the *Process menu* choose eitherr the +Pitch>Pitch Shifter II+ or the +Mac OS > Pitch+ plug in to shift the pitch. I think Pitch may be better for what you want.
You can also look under the *Process menu* and find +Time Stretch+ which you can use to speed up your audio if desired.
Don't forget the Undo command -z

Hey all -yes I have come to the good side but I still need to install Paraellels -since most of my programs right now are windows. SOrry
I have Paraellels installed but how do I tell Paraellels how much space to use the mac HD for windows --I wanna use 15gb for windows --SHould I have partitioned the MAC HD for 15gb to install windows on-
Im on Paraellels now and its asking me to insert eh windows disk but i dont wanna install anything if i need to go back and do something.
    Matt

I know that you don't need a separate partition for Parallels to work. Essentially it creates a special file on your computer that acts kind of like a virtual computer when Parallels is running. Windows is actually installed into this file. So to answer your question about partitioning, no, there's no need for a separate partition.
Unfortunately I don't use Parallels so can't help with the rest. The advice in the other reply is your best bet. They'll be more intimately familiar with Parallels over there.

  • Basic Mastering in Logic 9 - Need Help!

I am brand new to Logic Pro (and DAW's in general - no other pro audio background). I have completed a musical recording, mixed it to my satisfaction, but I want to master it to get it to sound more loud and full. I have searched the web for help in how to do this, and while I have found some information, I'm a little stuck in terms of how to bounce my tracks into a single (or double) track that can then be mastered and tweaked. I want to convert my song into a format such as is seen in this YouTube video so that I can apply these mastering strategies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ch9n0uD8gg
Can someone point me to a step by steb resource? I'm stuck, thanks!

  • I am new to Logic Pro X.

I am recently new to Logic Pro X. I have never used production software before so everything is very new to me. I have been watching a lot of tutorials (learn to crawl before you can run). But I have noticed that the layout of my Logic is different to the others in the tutorials. Mine has sort of a brown boarder on the sides of the screen and when I first open up Logic everything is fine, I click 'Empty Project' but from here things look different to everyone elses.
After clicking 'Empty Project' another screen opens that lets you choose from Software Instrument, Audio, Drummer etc.. On others Logic it just comes up as individual boxes for each subject.. But on my Logic it comes up something similar but only it has 3 big pictures of instuments.
It looks a lot like garage band and it is really annoying me because when I am watching tutorials and trying to go along with them it is hard to keep track.
It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help.
The way I want my Logic to be.The way that it is.

You are running Logic Pro X in "Garage Band Pro" mode.... (You choose this option during install.. when it asked if you had ever used LPX before..) which is a cut down version of LPX with a lot of advanced features and abilities turned off....
So.. to turn on "Logic Pro X" Mode..... and activate all the features you are missing...
Go to Logic's preferences/Advanced tab (In the menu bar) and check all the options.....
I would restart LPX after doing so..... and open a new project.... and you will be good to go....

Bad or incompatible RAM is, more often then not, the cause of most Kernel Panics. It could also just need to be reset.
Here's the most used site for Resolving Kernel Panics. Please do all the steps in order, even if you don't think you need to do a certain step.

I can't say enough good things about Redmatica, and Andrea in particular.
I've found and reported a handful of issues I found in Keymap, and in each case I had the issue confirmed, and a new build sent to me at most within a couple of days, often much sooner, with the issue fixed. If only Apple were more like that...
Keymap is a stunning piece of software that, in conjunction with Logic (or other soft samplers) make creating sampled instrument content (almost) a pleasure.
Have a good one - do you video these sessions for people who can't attend..?

Hey Pancenter there are still lots of us about.
I wouldn't take the original post too seriously - I may of course be naive but it sounds like it could be a troll to me!
I learn a lot from reading the posts of the likes of you, Erik, Bee Jay, sampleconstruct, noeqplease etc so I hope you guys don't become too dispondent when you see posts like these.
By the same token, I hope the Logic team continue to use their talents to develop powerful software that caters for the professional user, while allowing Garageband to continue to do its (excellent) job of providing for its market.

  • Hi therem, new to logic pro, a few problems, can anyone help?

hi there, when i try import a audio file it asks, what kind of file is this, and gives only the option to abort, how do i get around this? also so far each time i save a song, the next time i try to reopen it it says the songs damaged, and after that it says my project manager needs to rescan ( witch i have done) but then logic goes mental , 1 i cant open any instuments and 2 the grafics go a bit weird,
i have totally reintalled it twise. ive reset my preffences and it works, but only untel i try load a song and it crashes,
oh and every file i have tried to bounce, wont work, even a wave file transfered to my pc doesnt work,
please if any one can help, i would be really grateful

I can only offer my own experience, sometime ago Logic started to act weird Flashingg, crashing. So my solution was drastic. I decided to re-install OSX . I did and re-insatll Logic Pro and all my plugins. After that everything was OK. I dont know what was wrong , Mac Pro is New there are bugs. It took me three days to re-install everything but it was a good thing. Now Logic is OK. In My case it happen rigth after a connected a Mackie control and extender.
So I downloaded the new Midi drivers from Mackie
    Good luck.

  • New logic user, need help with multi-channel inst and aux strips.

    Greetings all,
So I just purchased a new Mac Pro 2.66 and Logic Pro 7 to run with it. I have been a long time Nuendo/Cubase user on the PC side of things but since I got the Mac I wanted a DAW that was supported fully for the apple platform.
Anyways, its a world of difference and I am very confused as I wrap my head around the learning curve, so in the meantime I have one important question maybe some one could help me with.
The question is regarding Aux channel stips for Multi channel instruments. In this scenario I am working with Battery 3, it took me a while to understand that I actually needed to create these aux channels just to have seperate outs in Battery which seems really wierd and overly time consuming.
As an example in Nuendo once you create the instance of Battery, the audio mixer automatically just creates the corresponding stereo and mono channels instantly. This obviously makes is a sinch to assign Batteries pads to seperate outs for eq/comps for seperate sounds.
Now the Battery manual doesnt even make a reference to Aux channels for assigning outs in Logic, I actually had to do a Google search to figure this out.
    Anways, sorry for rambling...
Here is the main issue.... How can I quickly and easily create multiple Aux's? In the mixer there is really only enough room in there to add like 1 more Aux strip, if I want to add more than that I need to re-arrange the entire global mixer which seems like a crazy system, surely there must be a more convenient method for getting muti-channel audio instruments set up quicker.
Any help you can assist with would be exceptional!
    Thanks in advance.

Not sure what exactly your question is, especially since I don't use battery. But as far as creating aux tracks:
    • go to the audio layer of the environment (not the track mixer window), find the two defalt aux tracks
    • Highlight all tracks to the right of the aux tracks (these should be bus and output tracks), and drag to the right far enough to fit in a bunch of aux tracks; you might even want to drag the all underneath the aux tracks, if your screen accomodates
    • use the key command shift-command-a multiples times to create several new "audio objects", and double click each one to expand
    • highlight all the new objects and select options/clean up/ align objects (makes it look nicer)
    • still highlighted, over in the parameters section (left side) select a channel, setting it to the highest number aux (at this point, probably "aux 3")
    • now individual set the channel for each aux track – you'll see that now you have available "aux 4"; next time you set a successive track you'll see "aux 5" and so on
    • once you've got things set up the way you want, save it as a template so you don't have to do this again later

  • HELP, NEW TO LOGIC PRO X, HOW DO I USE THIS THING???!

I just downloaded Logic Pro X, thanks to the update of Mavericks disabling my ProTools which I've been using for 4 yrs. So I dont even really know where to go from there as far as Protools. Anyway, I downloaded Logic Pro X, so how do I record on it, using an 003 rack & roland fantom g8. I tried it already & have no idea what I'm doing. I can't even get any sound out of my roland. How different is it than protools, and what do I have to do to record some tracks? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Likewise over here Pancenter, occasionally a few (classical music oriented mostly)recording productions, thats it. My main activity has also shifted to mainly title editing and mastering, which is not my thing really, but anyway good to here things are going well and I wish I could earn my money playing guitar. The last time I tried that, had eventually resulted in the rec engineer taking over my guitar job and I occupy his chair in the studio since……..(This sounds funnier then it was!)
One of my last guitar productions on CD featured Max Herzog - Flamenco guitar, he should be touring in your part of the world at the moment and if you have the time you should definitely check him out. He is in dire need of someone recording his stuff but has not the time to stay long enough in one place. You could do him an offer maybe and when done I'll do the editing and mastering when he comes to Holland again. Well, think about it……
And I also would like to apologize to anybody who thinks this is not the appropriate place to talk about stuff like that!
    I got a bit carried away…………
    Have a nice day!
