New to Mac Book Pro 2011

i just got a new mac book pro. after start up, the cursor can move to icons, but nothing happen, no drawdown showing up. Can anyone help on this? Thanks

I think what you mean is "Tap to click" is not turned on.
Currently you have to actually click down on the physical button of the trackpad to click on an icon or anything else.
To turn on tap to click you need to go into the Apple menu at the top left, then click system preferences, then trackpad. In there you can click "tap to click" and that should take care of your issue.
Regards,
Britt.

  • How can I do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder which does not have firewire out/input? it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite RCA output?

I need to do live streaming with a Mac Book Pro 2011, using a new model of Sony HD camcorder (http://store.sony.co...ber=HDRAX2000/H) ..this camcorder model does not have firewire out/input ..it comes only with a component video output, USB, HDMI and composite A/V video output..
I wonder how can I plug this camcorder to the firewire port of my laptop? Browsing on internet I found that Grass Valley Company produces this converter http://www.amazon.co...=A17MC6HOH9AVE6 ..but I am not sure -not even after checking the amazon reviews- if this device will send the video signal through firewire to my laptop, in order to live streaming properly? ..anyone in this forum could help me please?
    Thanx

I can't broadcast with the built in iSight webcam... how would I zoom in or zoom out? or how would I pan? I've seem people doing it walking with their laptops but that's not an option for me... there's nothing wrong with my USB ports but that's neither an option to stream video because as far as I know through USB you can't connect video in apple operating systems ..you can for sure plug any video cam or photo camera through usb but as a drive to transfer data not as a live video camera...  is by firewire an old interface developed by apple that you can connect all sorts of cameras to apple computers... unfortunately my new sony HDR-AX2000 camcorder doesn't have firewire output...
    thanx

Wait it out for couple of hours.
    Hope you have a backup.
If you have a backup ready, restart the computer.

  • I'm new to mac book pro need help with the dock

'm new to mac book pro and I accidentally delete from the dock the Utilities and Documents Icon. How do I put it back?
    I already tried moving from

    Eric's right, but an additional tip;
Make sure the folders and other non-app shortcuts you'd like on the dock go on the right hand side of the little median (looks like a road median), and place them directly between two other items. They will only shortcut onto the dock if you see the Dock make space for it.

  • My Mac book pro 2011 has lost its wifi card!  Message says it is not installed; however, it was there until today.  What has happened?

My Mac book pro 2011 seems to have lost its wifi card.  It was there until today.  Now message says wifi card is not installed.  What's happening?

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM:
    SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    PRAM

On the SMC, you want the process for "a battery you should not remove yourself."

  • Brand New 13" Mac Book Pro

How long should it take to power up my new 13" mac book pro?

Well it depends on quite a number of factors. Most importantly, how full is the HDD? And is it a mechanical drive, or an SSD? And how much RAM is installed?
A stock model I would guestimate around 20-30 seconds.

  • The New Thinner Mac book Pro "15 in"

    Hi All,
Im Simply a PC user, who started to like Applle Products Since i ever Using a iPhone 4
Basically Im a Graphic Designer,Like i told you im a Pc User,I want to upgrade Myself to Mac book Pro.Reading Rumours on Various Website Says there will be New Thinner Mac book Pro Available By end of April,So do you Guys Suggest me to Wait or go ahead and Purchase the Currently available thicker Mac book Pro "15 in"
    Please Suggest me
    Thanks Guys

It's just how your post reads, that may bother a few folks. You're asking a perfectly legit question, though... which is how to best invest in a MBP, and to me, at least, that's reasonable.
Personally, I love the current MBP design, and I don't know if I'd like something thinner as much. More importantly, though, Apple is going to release OSX Mountain Lion "this summer", and, if I had to purchase a new laptop now, I'd certainly wait until the units with Mountain Lion as the default OS have been out for a while. Hardware isn't supposed to be too affected by major OS releases, but you know, it always is. Apple will make some adjustments to their machinery to ensure ML runs smoothly. Count on it.
Besides, the next generation of displays will probably be better.

Thanks Linc ......you were right on the money. Your help has been awsome. I spent 3 hours last night doing stuff with out any solutions. May I ask you another question if you have the time and patience please. My orriginal setup was 2 windows laptops with XP on them connected with a timecapsule attached to a router. Hence the time capsule made a wireless signal aswell as being an external hard drive. On one of the laptops i have a printer attached to it which was shared so that the other computer could print documents through the network however the computer attached to the printer has to be on. Do you know what i have to do so these new 2 mac book pros can print to that printer? Thanks again for all your previous help. Nick

  • My mac book pro 2011 never pass the grey screen.

I have a mac book pro 2011, 17". For some reasons it just stop working. I have recovered the OS by holding command-R, the problem still persist. I follow the note provided by apple here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 . Unfortunately, I have lost the recovered CD that came with my computer. What are the solution for this case. Please, help if any one has any idea about this issue.
The windows safe mode is working fine, but the Mac OS safe mode does not work. I have brought the computer to an apple technician to check for the hardware error using the tool provided by apple and found all hardwares to be ok. However, after try all the solution including internet recovery, the technician insisted that the mainboard is defected. What should I do to repair my computer?

There is a grey spinny wheel that keeps spinning. Normally this stops and I get the login screen but now it just carries on endlessly

  • My Mac book pro (2011) start-up goes straight to disk utlities and wont install mavricks.

    Hello,
         My mac boook pro 2011 wont start up to my internal harddrive. it will sit on the white screen for a bit before it takes me directly to the choose language then disk utlity and shows the;
    Time machine
    install osx
    get help online
    disk utlity
Ok so my harddrive is partitoned into two, but everytime i try to delete the partition drive, it wont let me. says (Macintosh HD2 cannot unmount please try again). And everytime i try to earse the free space, it wont do it as well. but its says it did.
Then i try to repair my disk but my verify/repair disc permissions is not choosable but the veriy/repair ARE choosable. i choose verify/repair option and it says everything is fine. but it still wont let me choose verify/repair disk permission. My Saftey Mode is not working ( circle with line through) so i cant fix that problem. I also done the reset PRAM/NVRAM and SMC and still nothing.
Ok the problem goes further. my Mac book pro came installed with Snow Lepord not mavricks but it wants to install mavricks instead. I put my internet into some single thing and it switched it to Lion instead of mavricks. but that isnt the problem (just thought it was weird how it switched OSX system like that) the problem is that it doesnt want to download install any OSX system. First it didnt let me get pass the choose install drive wondow. , then i switched my date in the terminal and was able to sign in but it wont download any OSX system, it would say (Something came up, please try again). My install cd wont work, keeps spitting it out. And trying to do an OSX system download wont work through this browser on disk utltity (not enough space on the drive).
I was deleting log files from my mac through the partitioned drive and i accidently deleted a system folder that had logs. i was wondering if this was the problem and if its making my HD fail ir is my HD done? and can i put Yosemite on a usb and boot it that way or burning it to a CD and doing a cd install?
Please i need help becuase i use my mac for film and editing and my mac wont boot to the desktop, just to this window. ill try to post picutres of what happens.

That you are getting the BONG is a good sign, it's unlikely to be hardware if you are able to hear that.
Start by running SW update. It's not that there is a specific fix, but when updating it may rewrite some system files which may get this going again purely as a side affect. Worth a go, and should not harm the system.
Try reset the PRAM - Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Hopefully one of these quick fixes works, otherwise we'll need to try isolate the issue next - so if still having a problem, I'd try create a new user and login as that user to see if the issue persists (which will tell us if it's system wide or user specific)

  • Factory reset for Mac book pro 2011 with OSX Maverick

I have a Mac book Pro March April 2011 Model and originally it came with OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard  as operating system. Then when OS X Lion came up I upgraded it and now I have OSX Maverick as my operating system. Now I wish to reset the laptop to Factory settings with Maverick as OS. I did Command + R and reinstalled the OS X Maverick. This only reset the OS-X however this not erase any of my apps or any of my other documents. How can I achieve that. All I wish to do it reset my laptop with factory settings but with OS X Maverick.

Restoring it to factory settings will erase Mavericks and install Snow Leopard; to do this, insert the Mac OS X install DVD, restart with the C key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install the OS.
If desired, you can restart into the recovery partition and use the Disk Utility from there instead, but this isn't an actual factory restore, and the computer can't be sold with a Mac OS X version newer than 10.6.8 on it(or 10.7.5 if you used the Lion thumbdrive to upgrade).
