New to Mac--how do I save filed to a CD

On my PC, I'd insert a blank CD-RW disc, format it, and just leave it in my drive. Anytime I wanted to save a file, whether it was a Word document or a photo, I'd click Save As, and when it prompted me for where, I'd click the disc (Drive G), and presto, the file would go to the disc, and I could rewrite it any time I want. I've been trying for over an hour to do that on my new iMac, and I don't see how. I've been through the Help section over and over and can't figure out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated. I see how I can make a disc one time by selecting a lot of files and burning them simultaneously, but I don't see how I can just format a disc for read/write access, and leave it in my drive to save files to it with just one click. It was so simple on my PC. Is it even possible on a Mac?

I think what you are talking about is packet writing to CDRW media now called a version of UDF, I believe. AFAIK that doesn't exist on the Mac, but I could be wrong. There used to be an Adaptec product called DirectCD that did UDF on the Mac.
Some old information: http://www.sweetwater.com/expert-center/techtips/d--01/12/2001
And wiki information .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UniversalDiskFormat States UDF 1.5 on Mac 10.4.5 only supports the plain style of UDF writing.
Those articles also discuss reasons NOT to do packet writing as well as compatability problems.
I would suggest a cheap $30 2GB flash stick.

New to using Firefox with MAC: How does one save a single jpeg from the internet, similar to using the right mouse click on a pc?

If your question comes about because you have a single button mouse, it's time to visit your local computer store and get a ''real'' mouse for that MAC. I don't "get" Apple, they sell their hardware for almost twice what a comparable PC would sell for - and then they leave out what is probably the most important time saving control, the right-button.

Then you will need to search for a 3rd party program to transfer content
    Pasted from another thread
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2234756?start=0&tstart=0
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump andiPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

Is the Adobe CD a MAC app ?
If it is a program for Windows you will not be able to install it.
If you nedd that program you can either buy the equivalent for Mac or install a way to run Windows under Mac (may be a cheaper solution)

I don't have enough storage space on my iPhone 4S to download the new OS7 so how do I save it to iCloud and remove it from my iPhone to make room but not loose the deleted stuff from iCloud?

You can't use iCloud like that.  It isn't a general file storage service; it's designed to sync data across your devices.
Some options are to sync all your music or other media off your device, then sync it back on after you update.  Another is to import your photos to your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then sync them back to your phone after you update by putting them in a folder, then selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.

  • New to Mac - how to re-install when G4 won't boot from CD

    Hi all
I am completely new to Mac, so bear with me here. I recently bought three G4's from my employer (they took over some old offices of a company that went bust and left all their equipment, which has been lying around for some years now). Wow, for a PC-guy like me it is quite a switch
Anyways, I managed to get one of the running and re-install with new OS (Panther) as I have the original discs.
However, one of them is causing me some problems. It is running OS X Server and has been setup with password - so when I boot up I get prompted to log on and can't get any further. It read a few places that it should be possible to boot from the install discs and then re-set the passwords. I tried holding down C when booting, but the machine won't boot from the CD. Tried holding C before powering on, before the chime, after the chime, when the logo displays, etc. Nothing helps. The key on the keyboard is working (tried it in the user-name box when I get prompted to log on)
I don't care about the conents of the drives - just want to re-install. But how to do that when the C-key isn't working to get it to boot from CD? Guess one of my problems could be that I don't have Mac keyboard and have to plug a Windows-keyboard into it. Also tried pressing the ALT key at boot up, but that does nothing either.
    Help?

It is a server yes. But it doesn't matter though about the lock.
Here's what happened so far which also solved my problem:
    - Moved around on the RAM sticks and then managed to boot into OF
    - Reset security-mode as described in various forums and guides
    - Still couldn't boot from CD - even after resetting PRAM and NVRAM.
    - So I searched the net (sorry to my boss for not doing much work today) and when I came home I was armed with many useful hints to do the dance with the machine.
... but just before we stepped onto the dance floor, I noticed a post-it taped to the side of one of the OTHER machines (I bought three from my employer's storage sale and all three from the same company whose offices they took over). And on that post it was two words one of which was Administrator. It turned out that the other one was the password. Dough. So much ado about nothing. But, at least I learned a lot about the Mac-world along the way.
However, when I pop the CD in I cannot see it when I logged on - faulty device? in "ABout this Mac" is shows the DVD-drive just fine. Is it concivable that someone could have disabled it some way? If so, how do I enable it again?
Thanks everybody for all your patience with me

  • New to Mac how do I enlarge the Command line at the top of the screen OS X 10.9.2

Im new to Mac so this is a learning curve. in windows I could enlarge the fonts so I could read them but I can't find anything to help with the Line at the top of the screen. Please tell me how the blind is to see this small print.

You can try the free app TinkerTool.  It will let you increase the system font size.
I've not used it so can't tell you how effective it is.

  • I have created a Mail List (25 adds) and it works fine, when I open Thunderbird later the list is gone and I have to create a new one. How do I save lists?

I have been trying to work out how to use email address lists in the past few months.
I recently managed to import all my contacts from Windows Mail on the old PC. They are now in "Address Book", there were a few in "Personal Address Book" but most were in collected Addresses.
When I went into collected addresses and clicked New List it allowed me to create a list of the 25 or so emails required. Then I could send out the email.
The next day I opened Thunderbird to send another email to the same list and it had disappeared.
I have since surmised that you cannot save a list created from Collected addresses in your Personal Address book unless the addresses in the list are in your Personal Address Book.
I will try again now I have completed the import and see if that helps.
Any other ideas would be most welcome.

You really should keep your contacts in your Personal Address Book.
You can drag and drop contacts between address books.
When sending a message, and the recipient isn't in your address book yet, Thunderbird automatically adds the recipients email address to Collected Addresses. You can turn that off though.

  • New to iMac , how do I save photo's to my computer?

I just got a i-mac , this is my first mac computer so I am lost.
I am trying to save photo's to my computer from a disk and am
not sure how to do this.
On my old computer I could just right click and save the image
but I can not do that on the mac.
    tHANKS

Just drag it into a folder, open your desired folder and drag photos between the two.
Pressing command while doing this will move the files, you'll see the icon change, the symbol will dissapear when command is pressed. Yes this works like the Move in Windows's right click contextual menu.
Alternately, you can also right click on an image, then choose Copy "[image name]", and paste it into your desired folder. Command clicking is like Control clicking on Windows, it will keep all the files you clicked selected. Command+C also works for this, however there is no Cut & Paste like in Windows, just Copy & Paste.
You can also select, drag and hold the photos over a folder or a directory and they will actually open, spring loaded folders I think its called, but this is actually slower as there is a short wait for folders to open. Esc to cancel.

  • New email system - how can I save multiple email a...

In the previous system it was possible to "save attachments" as a single click operation.  I can find no way of doing this in the new system.  Do I really have to save each attachment separately? (Have just received an email with 17 attachments!!)
Can't say I'm enjoying the new system - it's slow, cumbersome and times out all the time - even in mid email.

Use an email client such as Thunderbird. I do and have had no sign of the issues that you and others have reported here; as it happens, I received an email last week with 32 attachments - no problem. In addition, storing you stuff on your computer (properly backed up) is inherently safer than the cloud (ask the starkers celebs) and the quirks and cosmetics of the new webmail are invisible.

  • New To Mac, How to move/copy files from external drive

Just got my first Mac computer. My music files (about 140 gb) are on an external drive.
When setting up iTunes the process of transfering and organizing the files took over 24 hours--more than twice as long as on my old PC.
I would like to keep the files on the Mac itself. I have plenty of space now, and I think not using an external drive improves performance. Then I could use the hard drive as a back-up, as nature intended.
Problem is, due to my inexperience with Macs I'm stumped as to how to do this.
Any suggestions would be greatly aprecciated!

I believe you would simply copy your iTunes Music folder from your external drive into the main iTunes folder on your Mac, then open Preferences, and in the Advanced section use the 'Change' button next to eh 'iTunes music folder location' window to find your copy of the iTunes Music folder and let your Mac know that's where all your tunes are.
That's pretty much the exact reverse of what I had to do!
Hope that helps (and isn't wrong)!
