New to MacBook...question about running windows media player....

Bought my wife a new MacBook a few weeks ago....she appears to enjoy the laptop, but one thing we can't figure out.
How do we get Windows Media Player files to play when all we have is QuikTime? For example, tried watching some of the performances from 'RockStar Supernova', but only get an error.
What do we need to do so anytime we try to watch a Windows Media Player file it will default and play in QuikTime?
Any help is much appreciated.

I am frantic. I have been up all night and feel dreadful. I am not familiar with all this stuff but am better than many people i know.
what has happened is that I downloaded Itune and the quicktime thing that went with it. Now I tunes has 'taken over'.
I cannot get if off the start menu..and quicktime too...thus taking up resources i need for other things.
but worse. Now it is Itunes that reads the cd...not media player as before (I guees I must have ticked that or it is by default) but it cannot read the CD. everything is shown as Itunes 1 or 2 etc. with file ext .cda. also impossible no to attch to an email.
I would be happy to just get read of itunes and all that is associated with it. I only downloaded it in preparation for getting an ipod but now I do not wnat anything to do with the whole thing but I cam scared to uninstall it for fear of what it might do to register.
I do not even know how to put a post on this site and have just got desperate so amy trying to email somebody who can help me.
Please help.
I just wnat to get back to where I was before I tunes with paying penalty.

  • BIG QUESTION/ QuickTime or WIndows Media Player

Tomorrow morning i need to make a recommendation as to what product to go with for handling all web based video content. Stuff like streaming educational videos to live press feeds. Basically It's a no brainer for me, I say quicktime, but this would mean a complete overhaul off their network, which is fairly new. So the question is, what would be the definitive reason to go with Quicktime and what does it offer the WMP doesn't.
This will have an effect on a large amount of people that use windows based PC's. So Quicktime will be a hard sell, but I believe its the way our industry is going and has gone.
Any advise at all would be greatly appreciated. I have studied all I can and just need to hear from people who actually use these products.
    Thank you..

    QuickTime is really a no-brainer.
Start on the content creation side: EVERY professional media production tool I can think of (well, except for those intended to author Flash...) supports QuickTime natively, most actually use the QuickTime frameworks internally. In my own shop, we use mostly Avid Xpress Pro systems, and every one of them can generate a beautiful QuickTime movie with very little trouble, but about half of the systems will obstinately refuse to export a watchable Windows Media file.
For the content itself, QuickTime provides a scalable multimedia architecture that can easily integrate into just about anything you want. QuickTime Streaming Server and QuickTime Broadcaster are perfectly capable streaming products, and if you don't want to invest in a MacOS server, you can run the Darwin Streaming Server instead; I believe we're running it on a Solaris-based machine here. Best of all, the streaming tools are free.
Are you into custom presentation and Web delivery? QuickTime is the only architecture I can think of that allows you to embed a custom player *into the movie itself*. Do you have special features you wish to include? Once I visited a web page where they used a JavaScript player, an ActiveX control, Windows Media Player, and a ton of JavaScript to provide multi-lingual subtitles for a news videotape. Had they chosen to use QuickTime instead, the text tracks and alternate audio tracks could have been embedded into the movie and some very simple JavaScript controls could have been used to control the QuickTime plug-in. Quite simply, if your needs extend *at all* beyond the most basic problems of presenting audio and video files, QuickTime has the technical capabilities that *no other multimedia platform* can provide. Yes, you can stream or serve any kind of video file. But if you want to go beyond that, you need QuickTime.
Finally, it's worth mentioning that QuickTime, unlike Windows Media, is truly a multiple-platform solution. It stops short of being totally platform-independent, but as a cross-platform architecture it again far surpasses Windows Media, in that the entire QuickTime architecture is available in the freely downloadable QuickTime Player for Windows. By comparison, the MacOS version of Windows Media Player is buggy, incomplete, slow, and was abandoned by Microsoft about four years ago. One may argue that QuickTime is not installed by default on Windows machines (so what? Windows Media Player is not installed by default on Apples, either!), but the market strength of Apple's iPod product line has largely taken care of that problem. Apple offers a generous distribution license for QuickTime, and at least when you install QuickTime on a Windows machine you get full QuickTime functionality.
In my opinion, the decision is still a no-brainer. QuickTime is the obvious choice for multimedia delivery.
Caveat: Do you expect any other opinion on Apple's QuickTime discussion board? Still, I think the case is pretty clear.

  • Safari no longer runs windows media player files

so I am running safari 2.0.4 (419.3) and OSX 10.4.8 and Windows Media Player 9.0.0 (3307)
and I am going through the www.amazon.com pages to purchase a few CDs.
I find that when I click the Window Media audio sample link - Windows Media Player does open and claims the error "Windows media Player" cannot play this file because the Player does not support this file format."
Anybody know a work around to this issue.
I reinstalled WMP but still the problem persists.
    Cheers,
    Noah

    Hi Noah-
Windows Media Player will not play natively on an Intel Machine. The alternative is to install the free Flip4Mac. After installation, this plug-in includes its own preference panel in your System Preferences.
Give it a try and post back.

  • On a Mac Platform, how can I run Windows Media Player, v.9 or above?

There's a program I want to buy that I need have Windows program to run it: "My videos use Windows Media Player version 9 or above.  If your current operating system can not support that version, you will not be able to view the videos." I have a PowerPC G3 iMac DV "400". I've heard that there's a program that Macs can run to enable me to use Windows software. Is that the way to go? THANKS for any/all INFO.!!—Leslie:)

PowerPC G3   Mac OS 9.0.x   I'm in-process of installing OSX Tiger

If you're using OS 9, you really can't as the latest version of WMP for Mac on OS 9 is verson 7.
You'd have to upgrade to OS X for you to be able to use WMP 9.

  • Help New satellite c655-s5136, programs slow, window media player not working, and more

I just bought this computer in January 2011 and had a lot of problems w/ it.
    1) At first it wouldn't go on certain webpages. (for example I could get on gmail not yahoo). The help screen said it was the router or there were no issues. I had to look online (on a different computer) and find out I had to turn off all my plug in to get it to work.
    NOW
I keep getting an RUNDLL error message every time I turn it on. Can someone tell me what that is?
it says specified module could not be found: C:\user\Tashaun\appdata\local\upifitizoyiziyem.dll
The internet and all offline programs are running really slow and they keeps freezing or shutting down on their own or won't come up at all
Windows media player is completely messed up. My downloaded music won't go into the library. I have to make a playlist and put my songs in that. But yesterday I got some error message and half of my songs disappeared. I can't export the songs from the windows player either. I looked online and it all says the player is corrupted due to installation error when upgrading to windows 7. But I never upgraded to windows 7. It came with the computer. I tried some of the solutions anyway but I can’t delete wmdb file because windows said the media center was open, even though I used task manager and shut all programs off
Should I have Toshiba look at the computer? I don’t know if it’s the computer or the windows 7 software. Except for having to disable plugins, the computer worked fine for a month.
In addition, had Norton internet security on the computer since day 1. Tried Microsoft fix it program.  And fixcleaner

With dll names like that, it looks to me like you've been hit by a malware. Doing recovery to out-of-box state is your easy way out on this.

  • New to Apple, questions about using Windows, and other things

    Hello all,
Today is my first day as an Apple owner. It's funny because I'm also a MCSE, MCSA, and MCP.
    I purchased a 24" iMac, 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM, and 1TB Hard Drive.
I want to use Windows on my Mac so that I don't have to keep switching over to my PC. My main reason for using Windows is so that I can continue to enjoy my PC Games... mostly racing and D&D games.
So my question is... how does Windows run on bootcamp? Can I still use all of my USB controllers (like my steering wheels, joysticks, etc?)
I really havent even turned on my iMac... been too amazed at just looking at it for the first day (and also rearranging my home office).
I really just want to know from those of you who have PCs AND Macs, if you still find yourself having to go back to your PC because of incompatibilities or performance issues on the iMac?

Using BootCamp, your Windows experience is no different than if running it on a similarly configured PC. If you went with a VM running under Mac OS X (like VMWare or Parallels), there are a number of differences. However, using BootCamp you have a Mac-branded PC.
I'd point out that people have been dual-booting operating systems in this fashion for decades. Windows has no obvious in-built support for doing so, but other operating systems (like Linux, FreeBSD, etc.) have always very clearly and explicitly supported dual-booting (on Macs and regular PCs) from the get go.

  • Process WUDFHost.exe (Windows Driver Foundation) engages up to 50% of CPU when running Windows Media Player

    Hi Guys,
I'd like to find out why WUDFHost.exe takes so much CPU (for about 4-5 minutes, then it gets back to normal) when playing Audio/Video files.  I run Win 8.1. PRO Update 1 on AMD Processor x 64. I've updated all drivers and additionally installed the
latest K-Lite Mega Pack to play all possible formats with WMP.

    Hi,
Some drivers are running in user mode (such as usb drivers), specifically in a process running the executable image WUDFHost.exe, please make sure to insatll latest drivers, keep windows up-to-date. you can also unplug all external deivces
as a test, except mouse and keyboard.
If stll fails to find the cause, I suggest you capture a high CPU trace with WPT, then upload the trace file to OneDrive for further analysis.

  • Bug & Conflict w/ Palm Destop 6 & Windows Media Player

I am a long time Palm user but my T2 was not getting much use considering I was already carrying Two cell phones. But I was excited to get an upgrade to a Centro for one of my phones. Now I am dealing with the differences between PalmDesktop4 (PD4) and PD6 on Windows XP SP3.
I found what appears to be a critical bug in the installation of PD6 in that it has some very undesirable interactions with Windows Media Player (WMP) 10 & 11. Let me preface by saying that I am not using WMP or PocketTunes for any syncing or transferring any media to my Centro. My Centro is only used for calendar, contacts, calculators, and Docs2Go.
I have installed PD6 and the PD6 user data to a removable drive for personal privacy on a work computer. The error is that when ever the drive is not mounted and wmplayer.exe is started, Windows searches for the Palm Access Installation package on my removable drive and attempts to start a installation of PD6. Of course it does not find the .msi and the only thing that happens is my computer locks up till I close WMP and then the ACCESS installer goes away. If the removable drive is mounted with the PD6 application directory and the PD6 user data, WMP loads quickly and appears to work fine.
Why is WMP trying to connect to applications or support files in the PD6 application directory?
I can only assume that the new PD6 media tab now is hooked into some windows media services. PD6 must be registered as a client/helper app to windows media and WMP is trying to load or locate the registered resources.
The big problem with this is that my user data path gets over written with PD6 installation defaults in the Windows Registry and I have to manually reset all the PalmDesktop registry data to point PD6 at my really user path on the V: drive.
This should not be installed this way. The association between the two applications appears to be an error in the ACCESS installation package for PD6.
I used Palm.com “Chat” support four or five time for some very basic support in getting my new Centro setup. The Palm.com “Chat” support was great. For this issue they were absolutely useless. One support person affirmed that I should be able to use the removable drive, the next just had me do reinstalls for PD6 (that I had already done) and then told me I would have to use the defaults for C:\Program Files and D:\Documents and Settings\username... They recommended that I use the Palm.com phone support number.
I did this and it had to be one of the worse support calls I have made in a while (case number 1-51474282949). Why is it impossible to get any computer software or hardware company to support the desktop software they putout? I got the same tech support baby talk about “reinstalling the application”, “use the default installation path”, “its not our application” and “you will have to contact Microsoft for support on your operating system”. Ahhhhh!
I was not even able to speak with a “Level 2” tech support person. I demanded that I be connected to a technical person a not just fed the same FAQ crap that I could find on the website. The “Level 2” person would not take my call but just passed the message to the “Level 1” Person that I would have to contact Microsoft.
So I am posting this message here to the Palm fourm in hope that the software engineering team will see this and be able to either patch their software or give me the .reg key to break the association between WMP and PD6. Below I have posted a long list of my Chat support that explains the issues in further technical details, and also details the lack of detailed skilled support available at Palm.com.
    Help? Direction?
I have my palm application directory installed to V:\PalmDesktop6App and the user data files installed to V:\jcollyer-files\PalmDataV6_001 This is a removable drive that I install on my work computer. I remove this drive and take it home with me. Doing this allows me the ability to keep my palm data secure but I can still use my computer at work to manage my palm data.
If the V:\ drive is not mounted when I run palm desktop, Palm desktop messes up the "Path" regestry key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core]
    "DesktopPath"="V:\\PalmDesktop6App\\"
    "HotSyncPath"="V:\\PalmDesktop6App\\Hotsync.exe"
    "Path"="V:\\jcollyer-files\\PalmDataV6_001"
    "UserConduitFolder"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\jcollyer\\Application Data\\HotSync\\Conduits"
    "PIMVersion"="6.1.0"
    "DesktopExe"="Palm.exe"
    @=""
    "Desktop Language"="ENG"
    "INSTALLDIR"="V:\\PalmDesktop6App\\"
    "VM_Username"="John Collyer"
When the key gets messed up it defaults to the standard palm desktop path:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\jcollyer\My Documents\Palm OS Desktop"
I found this out because every time Windows Media player starts it tries to start Palm Desktop or the Palm Desktop install/remove program. I get a pop up window and progress bar that says “Palm Desktop by Access”. The only way to get rid of this pop up window is to shut down windows media player. So if my V: drive is not mounted just starting windows media player corrupts the user “Path” registry settings. It just so happens our work voicemail uses media player on the computer.

Dan > Hello John_Collyer, Thank you for contacting Palm Technical Support. My name is Dan. How may I help you?
John_Collyer > When the key gets messed up it defaults to the standard palm desktop path:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\jcollyer\My Documents\Palm OS Desktop"
I found this out because every time Windows Media player starts it tries to start Palm Desktop or the Palm Desktop install/remove program. I am using window media player 11.
What the heck is going on? How can I stop Windows Media Player from triggering the palm desktop application? Better yet why does it even try?
It does this when I simply open windows media player, even without a file. Just opening the Windows Media player application by it’s self causes this behavior.
Dan > Please let me go through the information you have provided.
    John_Collyer > Ok standing by...
Dan > I understand that you have issue with the Palm Desktop and windows Media player getting messed up .
Dan > Sure I will guide with the issue .
Dan > May I know since when you are facing the issue ?
Dan > Please let me know the Operating System you are using. Is it Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista or MAC?
John_Collyer > I had this problem from the first install about two weeks. I use PalmDesktop 4 with my T2 for years on a removable drive never had an issue. PD6 only allows me to set the user path during installation. So I have been having issues with the reg keys getting messed up for a while. I though just creating a .reg file to fix the problems was going to be simple till I found windows media player was trying to autostart palm software???
    John_Collyer > Windows XP SP3
John_Collyer > I am a new owner of the Palm Centro not using the T2 with PD6
Dan > Thank you for information .
    Dan > I got the issue .
Dan > There are more than one version of the Palm software in the computer .
    John_Collyer > No only PD6 now
Dan > That's reason the Drivers in the Registry are messing up and causing the issue .
    Dan > Okay .
Dan > Do you have any data in the Palm Desktop ?
John_Collyer > Yes, when the V: drive is mounted everything works great, perfect. Windows Media player even load without a hitch. I would even deal with the .reg fix work around I made to over write the registry. I still don't understand why the application tries to load when it is installed on the V: drive if the v: drive is not present. It has to be the install/uninstall .msi file that runs the Add/Remove programs feature in widows control panel. Why does any of this change the user path?
    Dan > I will explain you .
Dan > The reason for change of the path is with the corrupted applications and computer settings .
John_Collyer > Sorry, Why would the .msi file run if Windows Media is started?
Dan > .MSI file is the supporting file for Windows Media player .
Dan > That's reason for executing of .msi file during the windows media player .
Dan > To fix the issue we must perform clean uninstall and reinstall so that you will not have any further issue .
Dan > Let me know if you are comfortable with the clean uninstall and reinstall if the Palm software .
John_Collyer > I've uninstalled PD6 and reinstalled it like 12 times. If the V: drive is missing it really messes up the PD6 software. To keep me from doing this by launching PD6 from the C: drive I installed it to V:. No .exe no launchy. It works fine. What is hooking into windows media player. A .msi is a Microsoft install package, not a media file. We can do a clean install but why would running windows media player start the palm install/uninstall .msi file? I have not heard why?
John_Collyer > All my installs have worked fine. Unless there is a deeper cleaning process you can help me with other than running the remove program, is it worth trying AGAIN?
Dan > Did you perform clean uninstall and reinstall >
John_Collyer > Clean = remove program, reinstall, and sync to a new user folder? Then Yes. Other options?
Dan > No we need top perform few other steps .
    John_Collyer > Ok shall I "Remove Program"?
Dan > No please wait .
Dan > First please let me know if you have any data in the Palm Desktop in the computer .
John_Collyer > Yes, but it is also going to be kept in the phone correct? It will survive if we create a new user folder right?
    Dan > Yes .
Dan > Please let me know the user name given during the Sync .
John_Collyer > Well then I think it is safe, I have recently hotsynced so the data should be a match?
    John_Collyer > John Collyer
    Dan > Cool .
Dan > Thank you for information .
Dan > In the computer open My documents -->Palm OS Desktop-->locate folder called CoolyJ .
Dan > In the computer open My documents -->Palm OS Desktop-->locate folder called CoolyJ .
John_Collyer > No user folder there.... It's on the V: drive V:\jcollyer-files\PalmDataV6_001\CollyeJ Yes?
    Dan > Please wait .
Dan > Please right click on the Palm Desktop and then click on Properties .
John_Collyer > the .exe in V:\PalmDesktop6App or the shortcut in start menu?
    John_Collyer > start menu= V:\PalmDesktop6App\Palm.exe
Dan > You will have the Palm Desktop icon on the computer desktop .
    Dan > Okay .
Dan > Thank you for information .
Dan > Please take the back of the Palm Desktop data in the computer .
    John_Collyer > Destop target = V:\PalmDesktop6App\Palm.exe tpp
John_Collyer > ??? Please take the back of the Palm Desktop data in the computer
Dan > I mean to tell you that we must save all data of the Palm Desktop in different location .
    Dan > I will assist you .
Dan > In the computer open V:drive-->locate Palm folder .
Dan > Open Palm folder and check if you have folder called CoolyJ .
    John_Collyer > V:\jcollyer-files\PalmDataV6_001\CollyeJ
    John_Collyer > No CoolyJ
    Dan > Okay .
Dan > In the computer open Vrive-->Collerfiles-->Copy Palm folder and paste on the computer desktop .
    John_Collyer > done
    Dan > Okay .
Dan > Do not delete the Pal folder that was copied to computer desktop .
    John_Collyer > ok
Dan > First go to Start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs. There Palm or PalmOne or Palm Desktop will be listed. Click Remove against it.
Let me know once you are done with unistallation process.
    John_Collyer > starting
    John_Collyer > done, next
Dan > Now in the computer open V:drive-->Collerfiles-->Rename Palm folder to Palmold .
    John_Collyer > already there
    Dan > Okay .
Dan > Now we need to perform Registry Clean up .
Dan > Please perform the steps provided .
Dan > 1. Click on Start.
    2. Click on Run.
    3. Type "regedit" and click Ok.
    4. Then Registry Editor window will open.
    5. Double click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
    6. Then click on +sign beside Software.
    7. Now delete all the folders which start with Palm.
    8. Also delete the folder called US robotics.
    9. Now Double click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
    10. Then click on +sign beside Software.
    11. Now delete all the folders which start with Palm.
    John_Collyer > still working
Dan > Please take your time .
Dan > I will be with you .
    John_Collyer > done
    Dan > Cool .
Dan > You are pretty fast .
Dan > Now clean uninstall of the Palm software is done .
John_Collyer > I was already deep in the registry look at this all thats how I found the "Path"
John_Collyer > Now we reinstall? Can I still use the V: drive for application files and user data?
    Dan > Yes .
    Dan > You can use V:drive .
Dan > After you install the Palm software perform Sync and make sure that Sync is success .
Dan > And you will not have sny issue with the Windows media player messing up .
John_Collyer > Ok I will start the PD6 install now
    Dan > Please go a head .
Dan > Thank you for all the cooperation and patience in the chat session .,
    John_Collyer > working almost done
    Dan > Awesome .
Dan > But after installation is complete we need to restart the computer .
Dan > We must restart the computer for necessary changes to take place .
John_Collyer > how do I get back to you in support?
Dan > I assure that you will not have any further issue ,
Dan > However if you do have any further issue .
Dan > Please login with the same user name and email address .
John_Collyer > Palm Support can find me after that?
    Dan > Yes .
Dan > I will have Our chat session in Our Data Base .
John_Collyer > Ok then it is time for a restart?
Dan > So that once you re contact us we will check with the required information and pull the chat session already we have done with .
Dan > And proceed with the further steps .
Dan > Please go ahead .
John_Collyer > Till then, good bye...
Dan > Please let me know if I can be of any further help .
Dan > Analyst has closed chat and left the room
Did all this above. Still have Windows Media Player trying to launch the ACCESS .msi installer which creates these processes:
    IDriver.exe (x5)
    IdriverT.exe (x1)
    MSIexec.exe (x3)
I have let windows media player and windows installer run a bit longer and I get a second window titled "windows installer" with the text:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter and alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Palm Desktop by ACCESS.msi' in the box below.

    this is the default text.
I browsed my way to C:\WINDOWS\Installer and found a new .msi for PD6 called C:\WINDOWS\Installer\45599.msi and renamed it to C:\WINDOWS\Installer\45599_PalmNeedsBetterSoftware_msi
Still have the same issues from above. I thought if the .msi failed to be found then the error might just get passed over. So I do not know where IDriver.exe or other MS Installer applications is getting the values for 'Palm Desktop by ACCESS.msi'?
Again it is very odd that the ACCESS installer it trying to run when windows media player is launched (even with out any media, app only). Please do not tell me to do another "Clean Install" that is just BABY-TALK tech support at this point!!! I need to know why the PalmDesktop ACCESS installer is hooking into Windows Media Player. There is no doubt something odd is going on. As long as the V: drive where my Palm Desktop applications and user data is stored there is no problem. As soon as the V: drive is off line I have all these issues.
I noticed that PalmDesktop now has advanced media tools to "Make Video" in the media tab of Palm Desktop. This is where you can export a .mpg slide show of all you photos from your palm photos.
I would bet you a free year of Verizon's wireless data plan that the new Palm Desktop is registered as some type of client application to windows media service. When windows media player loads it tries to register all the clients and the Palm media client application is not available so some how MS Windows tries to start the PalmDesktop installer to fix the client media application.
Please note that I am not using Pocket Tunes at all, not trying to sync pTunes with Windows media or Rhapsody or any other media junk. Right now I want my palm to just be a extra smart contact and calendar manager, that’s all.
PALM NEEDS TO PATCH THIS. Palm Desktop should call Windows Media when it needs it, not have Palm Desktop registered as a client application to Windows Media by default!
PLEASE TELL ME THERE IS A SIMPLE FAQ FIX FOR ALL NONSENSE???
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Thank you so much for replying.
Yes I have removed and reinstalled WMP.
I had good results with the PD6 application installed on the default path onto the C: drive with the one exception that if the application was launched by accident and the user data path was not available, the PD6 application would blow away my custom user path registry settings. Now that I know what they are I have made a .reg file to repair my registry to my desired user data paths.
Installing the application on the removable drive appeared to help prevent me from launching the application by accident and overwriting my registry with default user paths.
So which is the less of the two evils?
If the application directory is not available, windows media player still tries to launch the .msi for installing PD6.
If I install the application to the C: drive but the user data to the removable drive, launching the PD6 application without the user data drive will still corrupt my registry settings for a user data path.
Both these issues seem like a logical (if not easy) fix that should be done in the PD6 application and installation package. I mean really, cannot anyone tell me why windows media player is checking the PD6 application directory? Why in PD4 did we have an option control for setting the user data path from the PD4 application? Why is this option not in the PD6 application, just the installer?
I am given a choice during installation to move the user data to another non default location. Why else would this be provided if not to accommodate my kind of request to store the user data into an alternate location other than “My Document”. Certainly Palm is not trying to force the users on how to protect and store their personal data?

  • Problems during installing windows media player

    hello,
i've been trying to download windows media player, and each time i do- the folder is downloaded as windows media-4.sitx, and i've having hard time to finish the download.

While there are links online to get the MS WMP for Mac version 9 for OS X, the
serviceability of this old windows media player from Microsoft may not be suitable
for OS X 10.5.x and may not be capable of running the latest WMP content.
You could still get and try it. Here's a link to Microsoft (Mac) support:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/flip4mac.mspx
{This ^ gives internal links to Flip4Mac and WMP for Mac v.9 so it may be an
idea to check with the Flip4Mac site directly, too, for any newer version. By
looking into the Flip4Mac link at Microsoft, I see the specs say this will open
    the same versions as WMP v9 for Mac. This may be old product info.}
Newer site for Flip4Mac= Telestream Flip4Mac WMV (overview)
    http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
( The free WMV player in the above site links-back to Microsoft.com's flip4mac )
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
This is a relatively new Quicktime plugin by Flip4Mac for Windows Media Player:
    File Name: Flip4Mac WMV 2.3.0.14.dmg
    Version: 2.3.0.14
    Date Published: 10/14/2009
    Size: about 19MB.

  • Windows Media Player 12 Issues in Windows 8.1

3.Do you face the same issue while using other player?
I suggest you reinstall Windows Media Player to check the result.

2.Click "Turn Windows features on or off", uncheck "Media Features" ,and click OK.

  • Windows 7 Enterprise N SP1 64bit - inability to install Windows Media Player

    Hello,
For last two days I am strugling to install WMP on to W7 ENT SP1 N 64bit.
This is now driving me crazy - thats what I have done till now :
I have two machines installed with Win 7 Ent N SP1 64 bit.
On both there is no possibility to install Media Feature Pack (Windows6.1-KB968211-x64-RefreshPkg)
Installer stops on windows (installing update 1 from 1.......) and CBS.log is growing very fast during the "installation".
I have left PC for at least 10 hours but nothing happens (and CBS.log grew till 154 GB!!!!).
The other computer acts the same.
What I have tried till now :
    -sfc scan
    -chkdsk scan
    -renaming SoftwareDistribution folder
    -disabling antivirus
Finally I have performed "Windows Upgrade Repair" which allowed me to install the update manually on administrator account.
Unfortunatelly after restart - there was some info about reverting failed update ??? and "Media features" and Media Pack was gone. Tried again and the same thing happened. At the third time the installation stuck on "Installing update screen"
and CBS.log started to grow again,
All automatic updates can be installed without any issues.
I cannot understand why you makes all thing so complicated - turning simple installation files into updates which does not work.
    Please assist,
    Best Regards
    Greg

    Hi,
I was looking for all possible solution I could find before :
    - Clean boot - no effect
    - Manual installation - the only way I know to install this patch  - still failed
    - System Update Readiness Tool - detected no issues
    - sfc scan - no issues
    - fsutil resource setautoreset true
    C:\ - no effect
    - System Upgrade - no effect
    - all antivirus and firewall disabled - anyway I am trying to install this at offline patch
    - patch downloaded with different browsers
I will be appriciated for help. Is there any way to register all librarires related to WMP 12 manually ?
    Many Thanks
    Greg
I have come up with "workaround" - my issue was related to inability to run GTA V without proper WMP installation,
I have managed to copy some libraries from Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit /system32 folder and register them in my system. I have also copied Windows Media Player folder to my Program Files (x86).
Here is a list of dll's I have registered :
    mf.dll
    mfplat.dll
    mfreadwrite.dll
    WMASF.DLL
    wmcodecdspps.dll
    WMNetMgr.dll
    wmp.dll
    wmpcm.dll
    WmpDui.dll
    wmpdxm.dll
    wmpeffects.dll
    WMPEncEn.dll
    WMPhoto.dll
    wmploc.DLL
    wmpmde.dll
    wmpps.dll
    wmpshell.dll
    wmpsrcwp.dll
    wmsgapi.dll
    WMSPDMOD.DLL
    WMSPDMOE.DLL
    WMVCORE.DLL
    WMVDECOD.DLL
    wmvdspa.dll
    WMVENCOD.DLL
    WMVSDECD.DLL
    WMVSENCD.DLL
    WMVXENCD.DLL
I know it was a long shot but it works :) Now GTA V is running :)
To bulk register these dll's i have used a following code saves as a *.cmd file (all you need to do is to drag&drop libraries onto this file)
    @echo off
    echo registering files....
    :check
    if not test%1==test goto run
    goto end
    :run
    echo registering:   %1  .....
    regsvr32 "%1" /s
    shift
    goto check
    :end
    pause
    exit
    That is it,
Hopefully someone will not be forced to sit 40 hours and think what to do when Medai feature pack cannot be installed.
Still it would not be easier to get normal WMP installer ? Instead of that I had to struglle with one update which god knows why cannot be installed.
    P.S.
It will not allow to run Windows Media Player !!!! It will just allow to play GTA V which needs some WMP libraries to run.
    Best Regards
    Greg

  • Video-Windows Media Player

It would seem by BRAND NEW MacBook Pro cannot play Windows Media Player files off the internet...is there any way that I can get it to? I will get software if that is what is required. Thank you for any imput.

    Hi Travis,
According to Microsloth it can play WMV9 codec material
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/codecs/video.aspx
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/codecs/audio.aspx
As can Flip4Mac and older QuickTimes
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
But no mention of 10 and I don't have anything here in that format to test it out.

  • Issues with Windows Media Player 10.0

I authered a DVD-R project for a client using DVDSP 3. The check disc plays fine on both Windows XP and of course Mac machines. It was tested in machines running WindDVD2000, PowerDVD, RealPlayer 10.5, Windows Media Player 8 and of course the Macs, and all worked just fine. However, on a Toshiba Laptop running Windows Media Player 10.0, the buttons failed to function when clicked. Does anyone have any experience with this issue, or do you think it's a simple DVD-R versus DVD+R issue?
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

So, lets be clear, it runs fine on WinDVD2000, PowerDVD, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player 8, Macs and stand-alone players, but it does not play on one computer using Windows Media Player 10. Therefore you think that there is something wrong with the disc?!?!?!
    No.
Its obvious that there is something wrong with that computer. Make sure it has the latest Service Packs and other such files. See if it can play other DVDs. But otherwise focus your attention on what that computer is doing wrong.

  • Windows Media Player suddenly not working- using wrong bit..?

This is the error msg I get when trying to start windows media player:
"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
I have not changed anything, it looks like my computer tried to do a quicktime update however when I when to most recent updates I did not see that wmp had been updated.. I use 64 bit on my computer, but i believe I was told that I can switch between 32
and 64 bit. How do I fix this problem as I cannot use wmp for anything right now? Thanks.

    Hi,
Firstly, if the issue did not occur before, please try to use the system restore to return to the point which the problem did not appear.
You may run Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter and then test.
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Media-Player-Settings-troubleshooter
If the issue persists, reinstall Windows Media Center via Turn Windows features on or off
    a. Open Control Panel/Programs and Features.
    b. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left pane.
    c. Expand "Media Features", uncheck "Windows Media Player". Click "Yes" to continue, and click OK to quit. Then Restart.
Sometimes, this error message appears because a installation file is corrupted. You can re-download or re-copy the setup file (Wmplayer.exe) for a test.
If the issue persists, I would like to suggest you use Event Viewer to check the related logs.
What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer
    Hope it helps.

  • I can't open Windows Media Player for Mac

I need to run windows media player for an important service i suscribe to, (mlb.com). I installed the mac version on the windows website, but I cannot open it because my mac says that I need to choose what application to open it with. I don't know what application I should choose to open it. I don't even know if i have the application to open it. Thanks for any help.

You might want to use Flip4Macinstead.
If you are downloading Windows Media Player you will also need to download Stuffit Expander as Microsoft have used Stuffit to compress the installation file and Tiger now no longer comes with Stuffit.
Once you have expanded the .sit file you can then run the Windows Media Player installer.
