New to Motion - Templates

Morning
Just started using Motion as part of the Final Cut Studio, with me still finding my feet the whole suite is a lot to take in. For my first project I managed to add in a couple of template design which worked really well and added a nice touch to my final project. My question is are their any other templates that I can download? I've downloaded some additional alpha transitions for Final Cut (mind I can't find where to install them! But that's a different matter) but can't find anything for motion. I know this is cheating a little but any little help would be much appreciated.

Start with the stuff provided by Apple, save them as copies, and start making changes.
As you start working in Motion, you'll begin to realize the value of commercial templates and that they are really quite inexpensive.

Being brand new to FCPX and Motion 5 I want to use a motions template I have bought for a wedding DVD I have shot, so as to place the introductory template at the start of my film. I have looked at tutorials and cant seem to see anything that tells me simply how to achieve this. Do I edit my film as normal in FCPX and then transfer to Motion to add the motion template or visa versa ?? I need a simple answer as I am far from an expert. Can anyone help please.

what do you mean by 'motion template'?
as you notice on launch of M5, it offers you different project types.
when you select 'title', the minute you save it, it's avail on next launch of FCPX in the title-browser.
same with effects.
if you like to use M5 for producing a short segment (eg, I created my 'openers' with it, some animation of our soccer-team's logo, the first 4sec in this video), you simply export the final project as a Quicktime-file and add it to some Event in FCPX for future use ...

Unable to install third party effects/titles. Missing folders in Motion Template.

Hi. I am unable to install third-party titles/effects/generators in FCP X version 10.2. I navigate to my Movies/Motion Templates folder and there are no subfolders in there. I created new ones labeled "Titles", "Generators", etc and placed the complete folder of the third party effects in the appropriate subfolder, but the effects do not show up in FCP X. I am on a managed laptop and do not have Administrative control. I am wondering if because I have a user profile with limited installation control, could that be affecting my ability to add the effects or is there something else that is wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Preferences do get corrupted rather often, and deleting them is usually one of the first thing one tries whenever something strange happens in FCP X.
How exactly did you delete the preferences? The current method of choice is by holding down the command and option keys when starting the application and then confirming when the dialog box comes up.
I have not tried running FCP X from a non admin user account. Whether this could be the issue, I can't say.
Can you post screenshots of a Finder window, in column view, showing the folder structure inside Motion Templates?

Changing color in motion template "Pulse"

Just installed new FCS and I am working with the motion template "Pulse". I can change the background color but cannot figure out how to change the yellow animated circles/graphics. Any help would be appreciated.

rodolfo68 - Alan's tip is perfect for simple color changes, but as an additional tip, you can also select the Behavior and in the Inspector, where it says Add, you can select the Glow>Color option. From here you can either change the color, or start to animate it as part of the behavior.

Convert 30fps Motion template to 24fps

I found info on the boards about converting 24fps to 30, but that does not seem to work in reverse.
I have several (400+) motion templates created at 29.97, which I occasionally need to use at 24fps. When I drop them in the 24fps timeline in FCP, they are fine until rendering, at which point they get truncated. A 12 second intro, although still 12 seconds, only shows approximately the first 9 seconds of the template and abruptly ends.
As a quick workaround, I tried simply fading it out at a convenient point in the intro, so it wouldn't look bad. However, changing the opacity forced a re-render and somehow it still didn't fade out at the right point. For now, I've been creating a separate sequence at 29.97 with just the intro, filling the drop zones, titles, etc, exporting a QT movie, bringing it into compressor to transcode to 24fps and then re-importing into the original timeline.
I tried creating a new 24fps project in motion, copying all the layers from the 29.97 template project and pasting them in, but that also didn't work. To show the whole project, it needed to be approximately 14 seconds. Is there a way, short of completely recreating the projects from scratch, to get this to work? And yes, I know this may all become horribly broken in a few weeks when they release the new version.

I'm sorry I don't have a good answer aside from what you're trying - rendering out a QT movie and putting that in your timeline...

Does motion template tools have melware or viruses?

i want to get plug-ins for my new mac book pro with retina display that i got 2 days ago but I'm very scared that the website/software i have to use for it has melware to viruses on it please let me know if it does or if thres another way to get alex4d final cut pro plug ins

Apple has gotten -- i won't really say "overly" -- protective of its users and really really wants to control how software is installed on your machine (via the App Store.) Apple computers have had a very longstanding reputation for being safe from viruses, and that is still very much the case. About the only way to get a virus on a Mac is to actually install it yourself (any software that can be moved into protected areas of your system has to be given your direct password "okay".) Your caution is commendable, but the community surrounding Final Cut are very straight-forward people not interested in hacking your system. If you have any doubts, search out information on a search engine — any "bad press" is likely to surface quickly.
That said, the Motion Template Tool has a good reputation. To install it, you will need to go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. You will need to unlock the pane by clicking the lock on the bottom left corner and enter your password at the prompt. In the General pane you will need to change Allow apps downloaded from: select Anywhere. (You can change this setting back as soon as you install MTT.)

Cant find motion template folder?

I'm a final cut user and to download this effect i am using (i have done it before, but got a new computer with lion) and the instructions say
/HomeFolder/Movies/Motion Templates/Effects/SC_Effects_X/
I go to home, then movies then the only options are fcp events and projects and imovie events in projects. like i said before I have downloaded this before and I really need it back. Help?

You can create your own Motion Templates folder in the Movies folder and then create an Effects folder within it. Then add your downloaded effect in the Effects folder and FCP should see it. I don't know if you have Motion or not, but I believe when you install Motion it creates these folders.

Open motion template in existing project

Is there a way to open a motion template in a existing project, rather than it creating a new project?

Having problems creating folders in my motion template folder

trying to create titles and transition folder in my motion template folder for my plugins. fcpx and motion 5. it funny cause my generator folder shows my gen. plugins

I have the same problem. For example, create a folder called Images. Delete the folder. Now there is nothing in the folder. Try to create a new "Images" folder. It won't let you!
You can log out. Log in. Try from a different computer. You cannot use Images as a folder name again if you used it once and deleted it. Also, I tried to drag in a folder. Doesn't work. Getting frustrated with file management in Creative Cloud. It isn't intuitive. For example, how do you delete a file or folder? There is no trash can, no delete. You have to click on a checkmark that says "batch." I don't know about you, but why would anyone think to do a batch action on one file? Doesn't the name infer you're going to perform an action on several files? This is a basic UI flaw that needs to be addressed.
Also, if you have an updated file, or folder of files that need to go to the cloud, they cannot save over the current content. Without any user notification it creates a second folder, or a second file and numbers it. Now I'm confused. Did what I just uploaded get the number or was the original file numbered? Anyway, now I have two sets of files in the cloud and I'm left wondering which is which.
I feel like a beta tester and I'm paying $30 a month for the privilege! Please help!

Is the footage used in Motion templates free for use? I want to use the fire and the sky sequences from Motion 1.0 in a music video. Can I do that?

FCP7.0.3 crashing with Motion template on Snow Leopard

Have upgraded from a Leopard from the 2009 MacPro install of Final Cut Studio3 to Snow Leopard on the current Westmere hardware with the same Final Cut Studio 3 application. The Motion Templates in the FCP application are causing application crashes. Need help what could be the cause!
