New to Premiere Elements 9 - adding keywords to clips in timeline?

Hello to hopefully my new best friends
I am editing college football highlights.  I have been using iMovie for about 3 years, but it lacks certain features that I was told (still hoping!) Premiere Elements 9 has.  Anyway -- I am editing from full game videos from an external hard drive.  I have imported an mp4 file (full game), dragged it to the timeline, and edited out the plays that I want to keep, then delete the rest of the footage.  So, I have lots of short clips on my timeline.  Before I begin the "real editing" or adding the transitions, effects, titles, etc., I would like to be able to "tag" each little clip with a keyword, such as "tackle, sack, interception, etc." - so that I can sort them easily.  I see that you can add keyword tags in the "Organizer" - but that adds the tag to the "entire clip" - which in my case is a complete football game; not my edited clips.  Is there any way to tag my edited clips in the timeline???
Thank you so much in advance for any help you can provide!
Kim

Kim,
I've not done this in PrE, so someone else will have to tell you where my process goes off, or exactly how to easily do it in PrE. In PrPro, I can do exactly as you have done, then create Sub-Clips from each of those segments in my Timeline. This will then place them into a Bin (like a folder that I create) in my Project Panel. I have the availability to use many different Columns there, and can even create them to suit. I can also order those Columns, so that say "Description" is the first Column visible, after the Clip/Sub-Clip's name. Some of the Columns, like Description, are text boxes, and I can easily fill them in with just the type of annotation, that you describe. When working on Projects, similar to yours, I will move Description to the head of the list, with Video Usage, and then Audio Usage next. Other attribute Columns follow along, and are ordered to my preferences.
Sorry that I am much less familiar with PrE, as most of my Projects there are rather simple. Still, I know that PrE offers one the ability to display several text Columns in Project Panel, so that part should work. I am just unsure of the Sub-Clips, so that you can easily see just what you have Cut.
Good luck, and I am sure that others will be along in a bit, and can point you to an exact workflow, that will get you what you want.
Hunt
BTW - by using single words in Descriptions, I can even Sort by that Column. Not sure where the alpha runs out - first letter of first word, or something else?
PS - Welcome to the forum!

  • What's new in Premiere Elements 13?

Premiere Elements 13 is more of a refinement than  a major overhaul of Adobe's consumer video editing program. Though there are a couple of cool new features worth noting:
    • New Guided Edits. Version 13 adds more tasks to its library of Guided Edits – step-by-step walkthroughs of its tools and effects.
    • The Shake Stabilizer. The Shake Stabilizer is a very nice update of the old Video Stabilizer effect.
    • Favorite Moments. A brand-new feature in version 13 is Favorite Moments, a tool for selecting the best moments from a video clip and compiling them into a smooth, new video sequence.
    • Video Story. Certainly the most exciting new feature in Premiere Elements 13, though, is Video Story, an advanced tool for assembling clips and building stories using templates and semi-automatic tools.
    • Burn your disc to ISOs and Folders. In version 13, your DVDs and BluRays can be burned directly to a disc or they can be archived as ISO image files for later burning to disc.
    • Organizer enhancements. The Elements Organizer has also been given a tune-up. The interface has been nicely decluttered, and there’s even tighter integration with Adobe’s Revel “cloud”.
But the most interesting addition is the new theme-based Slide Show Creator, a tool that, for the first time, is available on both the PC and Mac versions of the program.
    • Elements Live (eLive). Elements Live is a link directly from the programs to an exclusive web site full of exciting ideas, tutorials and other content especially for Elements users.

    Over_Nyquest,
    Thanks for noticing!
Here are some of my personal favorites for some of the "what's new" in v13 - the entire new feature list and specific use cases on how to use these features will be rolled out over the next several weeks...
    1. Circuit Parameters - For modeling, you can set 'global' style variables and have component and model values be expressions that are dependent on these values.  There is a circuit parameters dialog for adjusting the values and they can be used in the SPICE analyses (such as parameter sweep).
    2. More components - Maxim has been added as a supported manufacturer (+1300 parts) and many updates to our other supported manufacturers (+1500 new parts/updates from various mfrs).   We've added several new power models for thermal analysis (also included are some new eGAN FETs from EPC - these are new, small, highly efficient FETs).
    3. Updated the Component Wizard - makes it easier to do the symbol pin mapping for models.
    4. The LabVIEW API is now part of the installer (so if you have LabVIEW, it will automatically install for use in automating your simulations).
    5. PCB templates for reusing designs.   Also new/better dialog for multisection parts in heirarchical designs (which helps to better ensure synchronized hierarchical schematics/layouts).
...various others...  you can open the Examples folder for some good examples some of the newest features...and you can look at the documentation for some additional details (All Programs -> National Instruments -> Circuit Design Suite 13.0 -> Documentation -> Circuit Design Suite 13.0 Readme).

  • What's new in Premiere Elements 9?

In many ways, Premiere Elements 9 may be the best version of the program Adobe has ever produced!
    http://www.adobe.com/products/premiereel/
You won’t find a lot of new bells and whistles in this new build. Not a lot of new, obvious features. This time out the emphasis has been on improving performance – and it certainly shows. Although the few new features that have been added are pretty impressive!
    Highlights include:
•Mac compatibility. For the first time ever, the entire Elements Suite – Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements and the Elements Organizer – has been released in Mac as well as Windows versions.
•Improved support for AVCHD video. AVCHD video can now be edited natively in Premiere Elements! That means you don’t have to render the video (if you’re using the correct project preset) on the timeline until you add effects or transitions to it.
•Support for Flip and still camera video. Version 9 includes project presets for Flip video as well as for a number of still camera video formats, including the the Canon EOS series!
•Toggled Timeline track views. Video and audio tracks can be toggled between a full-size view and a compressed, flattened view, making much more efficient use of the timeline’s vertical space.
•Sharper interface. The program’s interface is now much cleaner, with clear, easy-to-read text on its tabs and tools. Additionally, the brightly-colored Organize, Edit, Disc Menu and Share tabs have been replaced with cool, black tabs so that the program looks more like its professional, big brother programs in the Creative Suite.
•Automatic project settings tool. When the first clip you use in your project doesn’t match your project’s settings, the program will warn you of this mismatch and offer to automatically  update the project’s presets for you.
•WebDVD output. A new Share option allows you to output and upload your videos as a Web site that operates like a DVD – complete with menu pages and media links.
•Added NewBlue effects. Some great new effects and transitions from NewBlue – including the very exciting Cartoonr effect for making your videos look like cartoons!

  • What's new in Premiere Elements 11?

Adobe has given the entire Elements suite a major overhaul in version 11. Premiere Elements, Photoshop Elements and the Elements Organizer all have completely redesigned interfaces – bright, uncluttered workspaces with easy-to-read text and tools tucked away until you need them.
But, in addition, Adobe has added some very nice new features:
    In Premiere Elements:
64-bit support for Windows 7 and 8 as well as for Mac OSX.
Automatic project set-up, based on the first clip you add to your timeline.
Expanded support for video from portable devices, like iPads and smartphones, as well as new support for AVCHD 1080p.
The old Sceneline has been replaced by Quick view, a full-featured timeline for quickly pulling together video projects.
The Time Remapping effect, which allows you to suddenly shift your video into fast or slow-motion and then back again!
A new Adjustments panel offers access to a number of tools for improving your video’s color and sweetening your audio.
The old Properties panel has been replaced by a new, easier to use, easier to access Applied Effects panel.
A library of FilmLooks that instantly make your videos look like a haunting horror film, a stylish film noir or a sunbleached summer memory.
There’s no longer the need for a second installation to add additional content. The program now downloads additional content, including Movie Menu and InstantMovie templates, automatically as needed.
    The Organizer
A redesigned interface that helps you sort your media files by date, place, event and even the people in them.
A more powerful interface for locating your files and filtering your searches.
An improved Media Analyzer that gathers more information more efficiently, and less intrusively, than ever.
Tools for uploading your photos and videos directly to YouTube, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Photoshop Showcase and Adobe Revel.

  • Is it possible to lock tracks on Premiere Elements 11? Overwriting clips?

    Hi,
From what I can see/have read it is not possible to lock tracks whilst editing on Premiere Elements 11 - is that right?
I am a new user and have been finding that as I'm moving clips around the timeline it seems very unpredictable as to whether the clip slots into place without affecting the position of everything else or whether it creates a cut in the soundtrack leaving an empty space, or whether it just shifts things up.
Essentially I want to know how to overwrite clips (ie. when I drag a clip in, everything else on the timeline stays in the same place)
I'm assuming that this means that there is a method to do all of these things but I appear to have done them all by accident and can't work out the method!
    Any help much appreciated. Thanks!

Holding down the Ctrl key (or the Cmd key on a Mac) as you add new clips to the timeline will keep everything on the timeline in place and override the ripple feature.

  • What's new in Premiere Elements 10?

Version 10 of Premiere Elements includes a number of great improvements in performance and stability, including faster project opening, quicker, more responsive performance and better handling of high-def and AVCHD footage.
In addition, the program includes a number of exciting new features:
    • The program not only comes in both Mac and PC versions, but includes 64-bit support for Windows 7 64-bit!
    • A new Pan & Zoom Tool and workspace makes creating motion paths over photos easier than ever.
    • An Auto Vibrance effect intensifies color and contrast in your videos automatically
    • A professional-style Color Correction Tool allows you to adjust and intensify colors in your shadows, highlights and mid-tones.
    • A tool for sharing your videos directly to Photoshop.com, YouTube, PodBean and Facebook.
    • Greatly expanded AVCHD support, including the ability to burn AVCHD to disc, output AVC and MP4 video in a variety of frame rates and resolutions AND Share presets for creating videos for iPads, Vimeo and even Tivo!
For illustrations and detailed discussions of all of these improvements, as well as a new feature list for Photoshop Elements 10, see the "Details" links on this page:

You should use the project setting for Flip HD 30. You'll never miss those 60p frames (particularly if you're going to display your video on a DVD or online, where you'll not get 60p anyway) -- and you'll always get the best results when you match the CODEC and RESOLUTION, as you'll do with those project settings.

  • Brand New Adobe Premiere Elements 12 Failure

Hi, I recently purchased Adobe Premiere Elements 12 for my new laptop.
It worked fine the first few times but now it cannot get past the 'intro box' where you choose between the organiser / video editor. It is unable to load a new project and it is unable to open an old one; in both cases it simply attempts to load, then doesn't, then returns to the box.
I have tried reinstalling but the same problem continues. I have checked the recently installed programs list and cannot find anything missing / conflicting (Adobe App Manager is still installed). My computer (32gb Windows 7) is more than powerful enough to operate this program. I cannot find any other postings in the forums with pertain to this exact problem but I sure would appreciate a speedy response from Adobe as I purchased this literally less than 2 weeks ago.
    Yours sincerely,
    Humphrey

  • Can anyone tell me why my brand new program, Premiere Elements 13, will not open?

I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 and Premiere Elements 13 last night and it was working.  This morning I tried to open the program to play with it some more and it won't open.  Any suggestions?

•You MUST use an account with Administrator Privileges to run Premiere Elements
•(Doing Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 [says Encore and also for "All" versions of Premiere] will sometimes fix "odd" errors)
•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 12 with the 12.1 update)
•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.9.4"---not just "Mac"
•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•How many and what speed are your hard drive(s)... ie 5400rpm or 7200rpm or?

Problems with Premiere Elements 10 Trial being slow to draw the timeline when scrolling up or down or sideways.
One fix I've read said to "disable desktop composition" in the Compatibility tab of the Properties window from the PE shortcut icon.
But the option is grayed out.
    My spec's:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    i7 2600K
    16GB RAM
    NVIDIA GTX 460
    850 Watt PSU
    SSD System and Programs Drive
Can't figure out why it's not letting me choose that option.
    Any ideas for a fix?
    Thanks!

What model of camcorder is your original video coming from and what format is it?
When you started your Premiere Elements project, which project settings did you select? If you've selected the proper settings for your source video, you will NOT see red lines above the clips when you add them to your timeline. Is that the case in your project?
Also, have you run Advanced System Care Free on your system? Brand new systems can be a mess of fragmentation and temp files. This great little one-click program can clean up and optimize your machine and often clears up "invisible" issues. And it's free. I've used it every week for years, and my 6 year old computer still runs better than the day I bought it.

  • Premiere Elements 11 + Windows 8 pro = slow timeline scrolling!

    Hi!
I experience slow redraw of the timeline clips when I scroll,
which makes it very difficult, slow and unpleasant to edit!
This in nothing new to you all, as I have read in many posts about this problem!
And everyone is asking (below these posts) questions like:
"do you have the latest QuickTime codecs?" or "do you have the latest graphics drivers?"
or that our pc are slow or that we work with strange video formats or to change to no thumbnail in the clips or that its
    the antivirus fault or whatever.
    It is not all these!
    As I have read:
-It can happen in many versions of Premiere Elements(maybe in all of them, I don't know)
-It can happen in both ATI/AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards
-It can happen in all hardware configurations CPU/motherboards
-It can happen in all windows versions and both 32/64 bit
So I am guessing it is not our fault.
Can Adobe finally fix this problem with an update? It's been so many versions until now!
    please... Is it so difficult?
Can't the programmers see what are we talking about? Can't they fix the programme?
Before I bought Premiere Elements 11 I had the 9 version in windows 7(64bit)
The same problem, slow/laggy timeline redraw when moving back and forth.
The solution I found was to disable the Aero feature in windows 7!
And oh my god... the timeline then was so fast and smooth, I was so happy to edit!
So I compromised with that(disabling aero).
Recently I have upgrad the same PC to windows 8 pro(64 bit) AND bought Premiere Elements 11. (hoping for speed in every possible way!)
The slow timeline scrolling still happens in both PRE9 and in PRE11.
And guess what? in windows 8 pro you can't disable the "aero feature"!!!
You can only change some visual settings, and even if I disable all of them, nothing changes!
So are we really stuck with the laggy timeline scrolling in windows 8???
Premiere Elements 11 is so much faster in all other things (exept the timeline scrolling)
In the preview window for example. It can play really smooth, in real time WITHOUT render preview
some pretty difficult compositions I make! multiple layers, with greenbox and many other filter effects!
Which in Premiere Elements 9 (in the same PC) the preview play was very laggy!
(don't forget that with aero disabled in PE9(win7), same PC, same complicated compositions, timeline scrolling superfast!)
I think they made some pretty good graphic card use in the preview play in PRE11!
I present and edit a youtube show with Premiere Elements with demanding compositing and everyone thinks I use Premiere Pro CS
version or After Effects CS. But I don't, I want to be legal and I can't aford the prices of these applications
so I buy and use the Elements series which are very powerful as well, if you know what to do and HOW to do it!
See for youselves my show I posted today(in Greek, I am from Greece), which I edited in PRE11.(pefrect greenbox, perfect!)
http://youtu.be/HdKAKI6P8tU?hd=1&t=1m28s (open in a new window)
or move time to 1:28 from the below youtube video window.
But unfortunattely the timeline scrolling made my editing unpleasant and slow!
My question is: Will I, (now that I have upgraded to windows 8 pro 64bit) have to edit ALL my next shows/videos
with the slow/laggy timeline scrolling??? please tell me something to hope for...

I have an ATI/AMD FirePro  v4800 1GB GDDR5 with the latest drivers for this card (8.982.8.3)
Is my video card not compatible?
this slow redraw of the timeline happened way before
and everytime a new driver version came up I had installed it but that didn't change anything.
Only with aero disabled I would enjoy a fast timeline scrolling in windows 7. (now, not possible in windows 8 pro)
Bill how can you explain this? Same video card and everytime with the SAME NEW drivers, aero on=slow timeline, aero off=fast timeline!
Is there some kind of a fix that we can always wait from our graphics card companies to include to new drivers??? (for how long???)
or maybe is it all up to Adobe and its own programme?
Are we all supposed to have old video display drivers?
Can someone make some kind of a poll for people who have this problem to vote to see where this problem apears, in which configurations, in which graphics cards? (assuming they have latest drivers)
so we all finally know what/where is the problem.
I love the premiere elements series and thats why I want this to be solved.

Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

  • Selecting Clips, adding keyword, selected clip not showing up in keyword collection

I am having issues while editing a soccer game for a highlight reel.  I have done this many times without issue, but with one project, for certain keyword selections, it is not showing up.  I am selecting a clip from a longer piece of game footage, then hitting command-k to open the keyword collection shortcut interface.  I'm inputting the keyword into it and hitting return.  It makes the sound like the clip has been marked as a key word, but when I go into the keyword collection in the event history, the clip is not showing up.  Again, this is only occuring in one project and hasn't been an issue in the 10 other similar projects I've done.  Any thoughts?  Is there any way to fix this recoding the entire game? Thanks.

There shouldn't be any sound, just the animation and the blue bar. Are you getting that? Make sure there is nothing in the search field in the browser. Try trashing prefs.

  • I'm no longer asked to match sequence settings in Premiere Pro CC when dragging clip to timeline

I don't know what happened but all of a sudden, when I drag clips from project into the timeline, I'm no longer asked if I want to match clip settings with sequence settings.  How can I re-enable this asking feature?
