New to SAP PLM ( I need advice pls)

Hi,
I will appreciate some advice please.
I'm interested in SAP and plan to gain certification in SAP PLM (Project Management Modules), but I've not got any SAP experience. I've got under 3yrs experience in Project Administrator, Support and Coordinator type roles, got my Certification in PRINCE 2 Practitioner level, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner level, PPSO and ITIL foundation level.
Where will you advice I place myself looking for a SAP role, Iu2019m not looking to get a consultancy type role or anything like that, just something that will get me into the SAP career path with my project background.
Also is SAP PLM the best or only focus for me given my Project background?
Finally, any advice on companies that will consider someone with my profile?
Thanks,
Fumi

    Hi
    PLM With the expansion Product LifeCycle Management we can say that it is a traceing/tracking a Product throughout its lifecycle.
    i.e. from IDea generation (Concept) to the End of the Product
    There are different tracktion for PLM in SAP
    1. Product Data Management
    which covers Material Management, Bill of Material, Document Managment System, Classification System, Variant Configurations, CAD Interfaces. etc.
    Most of the Industries will be using these cross application components for their Engineering Departments.
    2. Program Management
    Where Entire Program is capture i.e. From Customer Enquirry to the Order execution and till Dispatch.
    Here again Project System, CFolder, CProjects, DMS, MM, BOM, Workflow etc can be a part of the PLM
    3. Asset LifeCylce Management
    This is used in different Scenarios where companies wants to trace there assets
    or lifecycle of their assets.
    Project Systems and DMS will be mostly involved.
    4. Quality Managment
    Strictly Speaking PLM Products are used in R& D Department, Engineering Department, Design & Drafting Departments of the Companies/organizations,
    Where they try to modify their existing Products, try to Design as per the customer requirements, Try to launch new Product by doing R & D works.
    PLM is Mostly used in these Departments of the Organizations

  • New to Mac...Need advice...MBP and My Book external drive

    I'm new to Mac. Getting my MBP 2.4GHz/15" in tomorrow and this will be a migration from the Windows world to the Mac world for me. So I need some advice.
    I received my My Book Pro 500GB external HDD in today and have a friend's MacBook running the current version of OS X to do any work I need to do to this HDD.
    I'm going to have Windows XP Home available via Boot Camp and Parallels (depending on whether I need to run natively or not) in case that matters.
    Here's what I have in terms of data:
    - about 2GB of data files (Word, Excel, etc.)
    - about 6GB worth of photo files
    - about 85GB of home movies that are in .avi format at this time
    I'm a little overwhelmed with all that I've been trying to digest regarding this move and just found out my laptop will be here tomorrow. I thought I had some extra time but that hasn't turned out to be the case.
    What doesn't make sense to me right now is how to get my data over to my new machine, move what isn't critical to have on the laptop's HDD out to external, and how to figure out which file system I'll need on this external drive. My laptop will be partitioned with 30GB available to Windows and the other 130GB for Mac. Do I need to format this external drive with the Mac file system only? Or do I need to leave some space formatted FAT32 in case I need some overflow on the Windows side? Will the Windows environment be able to see any of the Journaled space on either the internal or external drive? I assume not.
    I'm so confused right now, I can't even put anything down but these fragmented thoughts. Hopefully somebody knows where I'm at and can give me some advice.
    Thanks-
    John
    MacBook Pro 2.4GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Start with Switching from Windows to Mac OS X and Basic Tutorials on using a Mac.
    Since I don't have an ICBM (Intel-chip-based Mac), I can't help with the external HD stuff. However, you should be aware that file system formats and partition mapping schemes are two different things.
    OS X requires the Mac OS Extended (HFS+) file system formatting—applies to both PPCs and ICBMs. Details on file system formats are in http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Performance/Conceptual/FileSystem/Artic les/MacOSXAndFiles.html
    ICBMs the GUID Partition Table scheme. Details on partition mapping schemes are in http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/universalbinary/universal_binary_tips/chapter_5_section10.html
    Whether or not you can use both the Mac OS Extended and FAT-32 formats on separate volumes, I'll leave to the other experts.

  • New Snow Leopard server problems -need advice.

    hello everyone. I just setup a mac pro with Snow Leopard server to replace our G5 which was setup up for simple file sharing as a fake server and am having several challenges listed below:
    *I've made sure the new computer running SL server has the same local name and IP address as the previous G5 (now off of the network)
    - Our windows (Vista) computer cannot see the server on the network. This was not a problem with the G5 and SMB filesharing.
    - I cannot access server preferences due to this error: "Unable to set node credentials for /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 with the record name server.mydomain.com$ There may be a problem with the Open Directory service."
    - server admin is treacherously slow both locally and remotely.
    I cold really use some help on these folks. I'd sincerely appreciate it.

    Thanks for your input everyone. I turned off DNS (just to see) and it's still slow. Frankly I am not sure if I even need it yet. My goal is only to setup local services and then open the server up to the WAN.
    My provides the DNS I suppose. MY ISP points to my WAN IP and my router directs that to my server's internal IP. At least that's how things are setup now and left over from when i was using Snow Leopard client as a fake server (for filesharing and DayLite).
    I did setup the initial DNS settings of Snow Leopard Server after the install to the computer's IP address which I assigned manually and left the rest to get from my router's DHCP server. I setup the zone (home.mydomain.com)
    Any ideas for the sluggishness.

  • Very New to SAP.. Need directions.

    Hi Everyone,
    Need some pointers how to get started with SAP. I am an Independent PeopleSoft Consultant. I like to learn SAP and slowly convert my Knowledge. Like to know what is the best way to start SAP. What is its backbone Technology? Which SAP Course should be good for me? I am PeopleSoft CRM and Integration person, so similar area of interest. Or whatever is HOT in SAP..
    Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Pablo..

    Srinivas,
    You have raised a good question and I will list based on my own experience how to get involved with CRM in the proper manner.
    1.  Take the standard SAP classes on CRM.  If you don't have much SAP experience you will need to take the basic
    SAP courses.
    2.  If you are at a place that owns SAP software, purchase the OKP self study material from SAP.  This material will only make sense with a system and after you have done the training.
    3.  Find a person nearby who has CRM experience that can mentor you.  If you can't, find a consultant and pay for a day or two hands on mentoring.
    4.  Get involved in CRM project at the junior level.  If you have done SD configuration or development work in R/3 you can probably have no issue learning CRM.
    Areas of CRM to study from technical standpoint is
    IPC and Middleware.  There are not enough people in the US and world who have a good knowledge of these products.
    From the functional standpoint, I would concentrate on learning the entire CRM lifeccyle.  Most customers will implement CRM a piece or two at a time and it helps to know more than one module on the functional side.  A solid foundation in master data, organizational management and business transactions will help you master any module.
    Self-study on the materials will only take you so far.  You will learn more by actually working with a system and being involved with project work.  My background on CRM goes back to 2.0C and I am currently working with 4.0 right now.  I honestly found that most of the course/self study material will cover about 60% of the knowledge you need.  The rest of the knowledge will come with working with the project.
    I will also state personally that is very unethical to use any copyrighted material(which includes SAP classes), that has not been purchased.  I am particularly disturbed by posts for course material, that is not in the the public domain. SDN is not as bad, but sapfans appears to the SAP training material black market.
    Good luck,
    Stephen

  • New to web programming. Need advice.

    Hello,
    I am currently in the process of developing a new application at work that requires a web interface. I not at all familiar with any type of web development short of creating a Geocities page. However, I am familiar with C++ and C #, so I have some type of limited programming background.
    My question is, is there anything comparable to ASP.NET to develop basic web pages? From what I see, I like the built in features and WYSIWYG approach that you get when developing ASP.NET pages in Visual Studio, however, I want to lean towards a comparable open source alternative. What are your suggestions? I don't need to do anything too intense. Just a few simple pages to interface with a MySQL database and display some graphs and pictures.

    nadman10 wrote:With django, will I be able to create dynamically updating content? I will want certain values to constantly update without the user to have to refresh the page.
    Yes, using Ajax techniques on the client side.  Take a look at the source for the page I linked.  The Javascript does asynchronous queries back to the host for an xml page.  That xml is generated dynamically in Python on the server side.  If you were to watch the site I linked during a meet, the scores appear in the matrix as they are posted to the scoring system.  Often the web clients update even before the scoreboards in the venue display the scores.
    Edit:  For reference, the xml page url is http://clubchampionscores.appspot.com/gymnasts.xml.  The client reloads that periodically and looks for changes.
    Edit2: For further reference, here is the server side:
    import cgi
    import os
    from google.appengine.ext.webapp import template
    from google.appengine.ext import db
    from google.appengine.api import users
    from google.appengine.ext import webapp
    from scoreview import Gymnast
    from scoreview import Active
    def strToFloat (x):
    return str(x).replace('"','')
    def strToScore (x,mask):
    if mask: return '---'
    return strToFloat(x)
    c = Active.all()
    current=c.get()
    print("<?xml version='1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1'?>")
    print('<MEET>')
    print('<MEETNAME>'+current.Meet+'</MEETNAME>' )
    print('<SESSION>'+current.Name+'</SESSION>')
    q = Gymnast.all()
    q.filter('SessionNumber =',current.Session)
    q.filter('Meet =',current.Meet)
    for record in q.fetch(1000):
    print('<GYMNAST>' )
    print('<NAME>'+record.First.replace('"','')+" "+record.Last.replace('"','')+'</NAME>' )
    print('<GYM>'+record.Gym.replace('"','')+'</GYM>' )
    print('<NUMBER>'+record.Number.replace('"','')+'</NUMBER>' )
    print('<VAULT>'+strToScore(record.Vault,int(record.Mask) & 1)+'</VAULT>' )
    print('<BARS>'+strToScore(record.Bars,int(record.Mask) & 2)+'</BARS>' )
    print('<BEAM>'+strToScore(record.Beam,int(record.Mask) & 4)+'</BEAM>' )
    print('<FLOOR>'+strToScore(record.Floor,int(record.Mask) & 8)+'</FLOOR>' )
    print('<AA>'+strToScore(record.AA,0)+'</AA>' )
    print('</GYMNAST>' )

  • New to Garage Band..Need advice please...

    Hello everyone,
    I would like to get back to playing the piano and am extremely confused about MIDI controllers and digital keyboards or pianos. I just want to be able to play the piano when I feel like it and then if I want to record some stuff, I can just plug it in and record some of my stuff. I am looking at keyboards/controllers and just can't figure out the difference. I was thinking about M-Audio 61 but have no idea if this will work as a piano and as something I can record onto the computer. Thanks a lot in advance.

    A controller is just an input device, it doesn't create its own sounds. So if you want to make music with it, you always need a program that creates the sounds, like GarageBand. You'll have to fire up your computer each time you want to play. If that's okay with, you, it will work perfectly together.
    If you are looking for a standalone device, you should look into a digital keyboard (lots of fancy sounds) or a digital piano (better piano sound) and make sure it has a Mac compatible USB connection (otherwise you'll have to buy a midi interface to connect it). That way you can use it both ways - play it just by itself or connect it to the computer to use GB or other programs.

  • Just Got a New MacBook Pro...need advice.

    As mentioned, I just got a new MacBook Pro.  I have enjoyed creating videos on my older machines vis imovie.  However, I've hit a bunch of limitations in that program and would like to expand my options.  I'm considering Final Cut Pro X since the cost has dramatically came down.  My question is whether my new machine is really cable of handling it's features or not.  I've noted my specs below.  Please advise.
    Also, considering I go with Final Cut Pro X, are there other programs I might consider to further the opportunity for design options and editing?

  • New to SAP, need some direction

    Hi everyone, pretty much as the title states, I'm brand new to SAP and I need some direction as to what's the best way to start learning it.
    To make my long story short, the company I work for was going to transition from a home-grown Sybase application to SAP Business One. 9 months and $150k later, they decide SAP sucks. Which upsets me because there's about 20 pages of SAP related stuff on all the job hunting sites and I'm always looking to "broaden my horizons" or something like that.
    So now that no one using SAP... I want to start taking it apart and learning how it works. I just have no idea where to begin. I looked at the FAQs and all, but I don't think I'm even at that point yet.
    So how can someone completely new to SAP get started?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I'm new in SAP . Would like to have some advice

    Hi Friends ...
    Hello all , perhaps I'm posting the thread into the correct thread category  , I'm really new in SAP and currently starting to put my interest into SAP . I'm currently doing IT Support (Unix Support). Previously I have no ideas about SAP and from my knowledge , jumping into sap is too costly until I found about getting to SAP academy through E-Learning which cost half of the actual normal classroom method of getting SAP certification . And obviously it pulled my interest . A few opinion and advices I would like to gather :
    1) Do you think that it worth for me to spend money for SAP certification ?
    2) What is the career prospect of an SAP certified ?
    3) What is normally the routine of the SAP consultant ? in term of the job dsecription .. I don have any ideas what is the scope of a SAP consultant .
    4) Is the SAP job marketable ? internationally ?
    5) What is the possibly of getting job for a newly certified SAP w/out experience
    6) Which is the best module that I should enroll for the certification ?
    7) What is normally market price for the SAP certified salary .
    What is other tips/advice from you for me before i start investing on getting on the SAP certification . Many thanks in advance for the advices .
    Thank you
    Regards

    Hi,
    Well looking at your queries I can suggest you to spend some time looking for the kind of requirements in the markets ( this you can find from different job portals). This answers your query number 2) and 3)
    1) Do you think that it worth for me to spend money for SAP certification ?
    This is an investment and it is really worth it
    2) What is the career prospect of an SAP certified ?
    As mentioned earlier, please check this yourself
    3) What is normally the routine of the SAP consultant ? in term of the job dsecription .. I don have any ideas what is the scope of a SAP consultant .
    As mentioned earlier, please check this yourself
    4) Is the SAP job marketable ? internationally ?
    Yes
    5) What is the possibly of getting job for a newly certified SAP w/out experience
    Good depending on your previous work experience
    6) Which is the best module that I should enroll for the certification ?
    This is always dependent on 3 things:
    1) Your academic qualifications
    2) Your professionsal experience
    3) Your interest
    7) What is normally market price for the SAP certified salary .
    Depends on your experience and as you are from IT market it varies a lot depending on your experience and the requirement of the company
    Hope this helps you.
    Do let me know in case of any specific queries.
    Regards,

  • I need advice on buying a new computer and monitor.

    Without going into huge detail, I am ready to buy a new desktop for my photography hobby.  I am still running
    CS3 (hoping that will work with Windows 7?), Corel Paint Shop Pro X (yeah, I know I have really old software, but I
    don't feel the need to upgrade just yet), Picasa, and all the software that comes with my Canon 40D.  I take all my pics in
    .raw and then edit/convert.  I have a 1 terabyte eternal drive where I store my photos, but editing from that source is S-L-O-W.
    Someone mentioned on another site something about aneSata drive.  Need more info. (I want an easy way to backup my
    photos monthly, because I have a fear of someone breaking in my home, stealing my pc and then all my photos are gone.
    With the external drive, I can put it in my safe deposit box.)
    I want a monitor (preferably not widescreen) that will be accurate with color and not have a glare, maybe 20" or so.  I print photos at home on my HP Photosmart printer, but I also have some printed professionally.  I would like recommendations on monitor calibration gadgets/software
    so that what I see is very close to what will print.
    This computer will have MSOffice 2010 on it. Will have quite a few other softwares on it that are currently on my old pc.
    We don't watch movies on the PC or do any gaming so the video card will mainly be used for photography and some light video use.  We do skype.
    Would like to stay in the range of $1500-2000 if possible.  I've basically purchased Dell's in the past due to the ease of designing my system,
    but I have had two lemons and am certainly not tied to Dell.
    I know I want a wireless mouse/keyboard.  Currently have Dell Speakers 5/1, which are decent enough for my use, as long as I can connect them to my
    new PC.
    Thanks for good advice!!  (And I want this PC to last me about 5 years so I would guess I need at least 8 g ram, 3.5 GHz processor, preferably Intel.
    Also want 4 or more USB ports on the front or side, as my PC location is not suitable to use the back ports easily.)   Thank you!

    I've taken quite a "non-standard" approach to this...  a little while back I purchased a powerful Dell Precision T5400 workstation that's come off lease from eBay, then populated it with good hardware.  Result?  Dual quad core Xeon 3.16 GHz 16 GB system with 3 TB of internal RAID disk storage and a good modern video card for about $1500.  This is a system that would have sold new for probably $6,000 just a few years ago.
    I didn't have to buy any of the external stuff (monitor, backup drives, keyboard/mouse, etc.) because I upgraded from an existing workstation and was able to re-use all that stuff, plus one 1 TB drive from the old system - which I then sold for $700 to recoup some of the cost (total outlay was then only $800).
    I describe the system and how I put it together in some detail here:

    This is a far more powerful system than anything I could get new for the same price.
    Just a quick glance at eBay and I see that some T5500 workstations are becoming available for reasonable prices now.  I see, for example, a dual quad system with 12 GB of RAM for a Buy It Now price of a hair over $1000.
