New to flex, need some help

Hello, I am a new user of Flex 4 and have recently gone thru the training courses available here (Flex in a week). I have been tasked with moving some of our firm's webpages that use jsp and spring to connect to a mysql database to a flex frontend.
I've been looking over the BlazeDS tutorial (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/spring_blazeds_testdrive.html) and it seems rather helpful, but I could use some help in how to make a connection to a mysql database on an external server-- where does the connection info go, user name, password, etc.
In a nutshell, the application I am to design would need to be able to go out to a database to first verify user credentials, then to upload csv files and store the data into a database, and finally allow users to retrieve the data in datagirds and display in basic bar charts. Thanks to the training, I have a good understanding on using the datagrid, but the connecting to an external database is where I'm having trouble.
Also, I have seen a flex webpage where data is displayed in a chart and the user can export the chart as a jpg or export the input data to a csv file. Is anyone familiar with this capability?

You need to create an Client/Server-application with 3-tiers client, application server (Java/Hibernate/Spring) and database server (MySQL for example).
Just buy a book over Flex and Java and read it.

One song stops after a few seconds on a new ipod touch, need some help

So I just got a 16gb iPod Touch as a gift and it works fine, all my songs play fine except for one of my songs that stops after like 7 seconds of playing. If I have it on repeat it will keep doing the same thing but if I forward the song a bit it will play fine till the end. Now this song plays fine on my PC, and it has played fine on my previous iPod video. Any one have any idea on why this is happening? It's kinda scaring me since I don't have the receipt for this iPod Touch and thats one of my favorite songs.

I had the same problem with one particular track I downloaded off Limewire earlier today and I've downloaded lotsa stuff on there over the years. I guess I'm fortunate compared to some of you with like 10 songs affected.
Anyways a little troubleshooting helps here. First off, it shouldn't be happening with any track downloaded off iTunes. Those are clean as a whistle in my experiences although iPod touch had some bug issues with songs stopping few seconds into them when they first came out last year. That problem appears to have been rectified unless you guys haven't done an update lately on your units.
So if you're downloading off Limewire or some other peer-to-peer service, you're probably getting a corrupted file that is causing this problem. I tried a couple different file downloads of the same song from different users and parameters until I found one that finally worked. It is true that a corrupted file will play on the older iPods because in my case it did on my 80GB and on my computer. It's only iPod touch that appears finicky about what it wants to play.
This is most likely therefore not a bug specific issue with Apple that you can rely on fix. You guys are probably gonna have to find new source files for your affected songs until you get one that works. Pain in the arse no doubt but the only real solution.

I am a BIG game freak and am looking to download a playable version of Maniac Mansion (any version) and I dont know how to go about doing this. I have read it is a playable game but I am NO techie and need to be walked through step by step so hopefully someone out there will remember what it was like to first start out and give me a helping hand.

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums. This process is used to install any 3rd party program onto your 700wx. First connect the usb cable and sync. Now on your computer go on the web and find you program/game you are looking for that is in a windows mobile 5 format, compatable with wm5 and download it to your computer. It will be a compressed file in a .zip format most likely. Go to where you saved the file and right click on it and select extract here. Once extracted you should have a setup file which you run to install the program. Follow that process and it will realize it is a windows mobile file and install it accross the cable to the 700wx. When it is finished on the computer it will tell you to check the 700wx for further instructions. At that point check the screen on the device and follow the directions. The key is to download a file that is windows mobile compatable, if you download a palm os format file or other mobile operating system file it will not install. Hope that helps.

New to LiveCycle need some help. How to....

I am new to Livecyle but it has been pretty easy to figure out the basics. I have two questions. I am using LiveCycle Designer 8.0.
First:
When I place the "submit by e-mail" button on a form, does it only send back to me as an XML file? If yes, is there a way to change that so it sends as a PDF? If there is no way to change it to an XML file, how and what program do I need to read the XML file?
Second:
If I send a form out to a customer say and want them to keep it and save it for their use, is there a way to do this. Everytime I send it to myself it prompts me that I will be unable to save and can only print the form for personal use.

This will create a button which works correctly in Acrobat, but you will find that nothing happens when users on Adobe Reader click it. After you make the button you will need to open the file in Acrobat 8 Pro, then select "Enable Usage Rights in Adobe Reader" from the Tools menu then save the new file.
In the new file that is produced, the button will be able to send the PDF/XDP via email from Adobe Reader (with data).
Be careful using this, (from the top of my head) the licensing terms for Acrobat state that you if you enable this in the document then it can either be distributed to 500 people who can submit it unlimited times, or unlimited people but only 500 data submissions can be processed. Read the fine print in the user agreement for details.
If you are likely to come close to these limits you must license the server product Reader Extensions ES.

New to AS3 need some help

So I am working on a small school project and I had an idea and I am trying to make that idea come to life but I know next to nothing about action script. (I really want to learn but I don't have time to learn it between now and when the project is due(december 6th)). I am trying to create a simple interface like a video game menu, all it needs to do is have buttons that allows you to navigate back and forth through 4 menu screens by way of buttons. I have created the buttons and have made it so that from the first menu if you click the arrow to the right it jumps to the second menu but when I go to add more AS so that you can go to the next menu over or go to the previous menu, in preview mode, it won't stop at any frame and it looks as though it runs the first bit of animation normally but when it should stop so that you can advance to the next menu yourself, it keeps playing and it runs on a loop between the first frame and the second menu, even though there are stop commands.
Sorry if I am not explaining this well, I am sure it is a simple fix but again I know nothing about actionscript and have no idea how to make this stop looping.

So, just to clarify on what i want the buttons to do: I get that my "fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayAtFrame" function says gotoAndPlay(34), that is what I want it to do but once it gets to that frame and stops at frame 51 I need that same button to then, when clicked, go to and play frame 52, and so on to navigate to the other menus.
When you say I need to redefine the funtion again for a different action, what do you mean? What you posted after that appears to be the same as what I have been putting into the action box but once I add that it no longer recongizes any of the stop commands and it plays through the entire animation going from menu to menu without pausing, and then loops.

New to PP, need some help...

Hi all, just a quick question as I get into Premiere Pro CS4 (on a Mac Pro, 8 core, 12 GB RAM)
I have 2 cameras I'm working with, the HV30 and the Canon T1i, the HV30 works great, imports properly, and plays back/ edits nicely without the yellow bar above it in the timelline.
The T1i is a bit more frustrating, I can't seem to find a way to convert the footage to a format that Premiere likes. I've tried converting the MOVs to many different formats, but none of them are playing nicely with Premiere. The playback is very jerky at times, sometimes tha audio plays and the video hangs then speeds up to catch up, and zooming in the timeline with the video thumbnails turned on takes forever. I'm guessing my Mac Pro should be able to handle this, esp since it works pretty good with the HV30 footage.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to a codec or format I should convert to? I have MPEG Streamclip and Quicktime Pro, and can convert to many formats with both of those. Thanks for any help!
PS: the T1i footage is 1280x720, so it's not FULL HD.

Well, PrPro normally handles the H.264 CODEC pretty well. Now, some have expressed displeasure with the Apple version, though mostly for encoding. The Lead and the MainConcept get higher marks. Not sure which version you have. Again, and coming from the PC-world, I'm not sure if either of those other two will install on a Mac. I assume that they will, and believe that each has a trial, but could be incorrect there. Might be worth a try.
As for G-Spot on your PC, I'd do that, just in case. It's a tiny program, and quite good - plus it's free. I think that it is the most often recommended utility on this, and most other video fora.
Also, the CD Audio sample rate of 44.1 should not be an issue, as PrPro handles that well, though there will be some Conforming time, beyond just the conversion to 32-bit floating point.
Sorry to be speaking in such generalities, but much of that is because of my PC usage. Could be something Mac-specific, that I am blind to. Good luck, and I'll keep thinking about your file specs. Thanks for posting those.

New to oracle need some help

Hello everyone,
I must say that I feel a little like a little fish in a big pond but i am fairly new to oracle and untill recently have used mainly in my school. I recently downloaded database10g and developer suite10g. I can use database 10g just fine through the web interface but i wanted to integrate developers many programs into this. I know that I'm probably making a bunch of very simple mistakes but I would appreciate any help that could be provided. I am running oracle on a windows system and will possibly also be installing it on an linux system so making it work on this computer would really be great.

Make sure that images are not disabled.
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and uncheck "Disable Images" from the drop down, if images are disabled.

New to Apples need some help

I got fed up with my pc blowing harddrives so i converted to a mac and i really like that my macbook has a built in cam. But can i make it work with msn?? Is there anyway to make isight work with a non-apple approved program??
I suspect the drivers to run the isight are built into the programs and since msn wont have drivers to run a cam... it wont recognize that i have one.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?
