New toolbar always disappears upon restart of Firefox

I add a new toolbar (right click on toolbars, then "customize"), give it a name, and put a few buttons on it.
The new toolbar is visible and working, and can be seen for instance in the View/Toolbars pop-up menu.
However when I exit firefox and start it again - after this, the new toolbar is gone. Even in View/Toolbars it is not listed anymore, i.e. it is not a problem of being unselected, but it is completely gone.

You can Start Firefox using Different Profiles to see the changes among them.

  • Menu and Bookmark toolbars are missing upon restart of Firefox, although they are recoverable by left clicking on remaining toolbar. V31 and Windows 7.

As question states, the menu toolbar and bookmark toolbars are missing upon restart.
Both are fully recoverable as customized, but then disappear again upon restart.

    I deleted the localstore.rdf.
But, I usually run Norton's Utilities 2012 "clean disk" upon closing down computer. The problem is something Norton is doing.
Firefox is storing my configuration/profile related to showing the two toolbars in some fashion (perhaps as a temp file), that Norton is erasing it.
Norton isn't deleting the customization/uniqueness of the toolbars.
Just that they don't show upon restarting.
There is probably a way for Firefox to store this "permanently".
Thanks for the help so far. The fix may not be something Firefox can do.

  • When I updated Firefox and watched the "New Features" tour video upon restarting, my Firefox looks nothing like what's in the video

When I watched the video based on what's new on the newest version of Firefox, I realized that my Firefox window did not look like anything like what was being shown on the video.

Do you see text links at the top?<br><br>
    * Right click a blank part of the Tab bar and then click "Menu Bar". This will remove the text links and restore the orange Firefox button.<br>
Do you want tabs on top?<br><br>
    * Right click a blank part of the Tab bar and then click "Tabs on top" to move them above the location bar.<br><br>
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.<br><br>

  • Is there any way to make Firefox 4 display the web sites originally pinned in each tab upon restart of Firefox instead of the last web site viewed before ending Firefox?

After pinning a particular web site in each tab that I want to use in Firefox 4, the tabs work as expected for the initial session. However, after ending and later restarting Firefox 4, each tab starts with whatever page was displayed upon the previous close of Firefox. Upon restarting, I would like for Firefox to display the original pinned web page. Any suggestions?

You can set the prefs dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* to false on the about:config page to disable the plugin-container process.
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll (Silverlight)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (QuickTime)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Flash)

  • New toolbar keeps disappearing after updating to 3.6.24

I have had to redo a new toolbar twice already after doing an update for Mozilla. I am running Windows 7 Home premium on a desktop:
    Microsoft Windows
    Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

Yes, I kept putting buttons on it. I did it 4 times before I decided to run recovery and set back to prior to update and problem solved. Checked help for updates and no updates were listed. Believe update I ran was a virus since still running same version

  • My custom toolbar gets lost upon restarting Firefox

I create a custom toolbar. Upon FF4 restart, it is totally gone. The problem is intermittant, but happens quite often. Never had any such problem with any FF3 version.

There may be a problem with the file that stores details of customizations, for details on how to fix that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Toolbar+keeps+resetting

  • In Firefox 4 toolbar customizations disappear upon closing and then reopening Firefox.

I click on ',''''''''CUSTOMIZ''''''E''' I drag the icons from the '''box''' onto the the '''toolbar''', I move the ''''''icon'''s''' around and drag ''''''space holder'''s''' onto the toolbar, putting some of them on an '''additional toolbar''' that I add, so that everything is arranged the way I want it; I click DONE, everything looks great, but the '''next time I open Firefox''' everything has returned to to the '''default layout'''.

Anyone comfortable enough should go to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox Standard diagnostics - Firefox] in the Mozillazine Knowledge Base, follow the instructions there and see if an add-on (extension or theme) may be causing the resetting of your customizations.

  • Home page disappears upon restart

I have a problem with fire fox changing my home page every time I shut my pc down and start it up. my home page is reset to yahoo. I know yahoo is not supported by firefox so I keep changing it to a forum that I use. but every time I log on to my pc the home page has been switched back (to myyahoo)and I get the message that yahoo is in violation of the terms blah blah blah. I don't want yahoo as my home page.
Also I always have to log in everywhere I go even after I have checked the " keep me logged in box. never fails I always have to type everything back in. are these win7 problems because none of this was happening on my vista laptop?

Yahoo is supported by Firefox, it functions and displays correctly.
"that yahoo is in violation of the terms blah blah blah" -- could you please paste the full text here?
Does the homepage save if you just restart Firefox itself, not the whole system?
    See [[Preferences are not saved]].

  • Tabs Don't Always Restore on Restart in Firefox 4

I have restart Firefox 4.0 on a regular basis due to memory leaks. Sometimes my tabs come back. Other times I get a bunch of windows with a single empty tab and others with a tab of a window I had opened and closed before the restart. If I close all the windows and restart Firefox several times I get my tabs back. Today, I couldn't even do that. I got a window of a site I don't even remember going to.
I asked this question once before, but I can't find it with a search and it doesn't appear you can see your posts in your profile. I'm guessing it didn't get posted or has been archived. It was less than a month ago.

You can hide toolbars that you do not want to see via Firefox > Options or via View > Toolbars
    * Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the "Menu Bar" or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide (click on an entry to toggle the state).

  • Customization lost upon restart of Firefox 4.0.

After a Firefox 4.0 restart, all my customizations (done by right-clicking on the menu and selecting Customize...) are lost! I can spend time customizing the toolbar, add-on bar, etc. but all will be lost again the next time I restart Firefox.

I closed Firefox, deleted the localstore.rdf file from the Profiles folder, restarted Firefox, still same problem.

  • Addons have disappeared upon update to Firefox 8.0 (not just disabled).

My apologies if this has been asked/answered elsewhere, but quick search turned up nothing. After updating to 8.0, I immediately noticed some issues with the functioning of some of my addons (Zotero, for example). This is perhaps not surprising, due to compatibility concerns, as I have compatibility checking turned off. However, upon going to the addons manager, no extensions are visible. It says that no addons are installed, despite the fact that all of them are visible actually in Firefox and most of them are functional. Since I cannot access any addons, however, I cannot disable/enable, update, etc. any of them to attempt to resolve any compatibility concerns.
So, to summarize, updating to 8.0 resulted in Firefox forgetting the existence of any of my addons, but still running them. Any thoughts on how to resolve this? Wiping is really not an option, since I have a lot of configuration of various addons (e.g. whitelists) built up.
    Thanks,
    Sirius

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 5.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • App always loads upon restart. Any way to stop it?

I have the BBC's iPlayer Desktop app installed, which I downloaded from their site a couple of weeks ago.
Ever since then, whenever I restart my computer, the iPlayer app is always running as soon as my desktop and dock appear. So I have to quit the app at every restart. No big deal, but it's bugging me...
Is it likely to be lurking in some sort of 'load at startup' folder somewhere that I've yet to discover? Is there some way of stopping it automatically launching, short of uninstalling the app?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Charlie.
I knew it would be something simple like that.
(I'm a bit of a tyro on Macs though... only had one since last month. That's my excuse, anyway.)

  • Pinned/saved websites in the "new tab page" disappear when restarting PC

I'm having some problems with the new tab page. I pinned 9 websites that I use on a regular basis but this morning when I went online again, the pinned websites weren't on that page any more, instead, random websites.
How do I save them ?

    Hi,
Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/new-tab-page-show-hide-and-customize-top-sites this] for the optimal configuration of the new tab page. If you installed any new privacy '''Extensions''', or a Windows history/privacy cleaner application, you can also try to adjust its settings.

  • The new toolbar lineup in recent versions of Firefox is bad. How can I put the tab listing back where it belongs, as in v3.6?

Never mind. I found where the answer was hiding.

You can also open the Bookmarks menu via Alt+B to see the Bookmark All Tabs item. It isn't show if you use the mouse to open the Bookmarks menu.

  • Why are Add-on Buttons along with the Toolbar keep disappearing in the Firefox4,5&9?

I arrange all the Add-on Buttons on a Toolbar created for this specific purpose(Options - Toolbar Layout - Add New Toolbar). I recently upgraded from Firefox 3.6 to Firefox 12 and that's when the trouble started. All the Add-on Buttons along with the Toolbar started disappearing.I checked if any of the add-on (one by one)is causing this problem but found nothing. But the Add-on Buttons work fine when arranged on the Status Bar(now the so called Addon Bar).
Later I found out that this particular problem exists in all the Browsers based on Firefox's latest version(Pale Moon,Cometbird,Wyzo,Epic etc). That means something is causing this toolbar to disappear in the latest versions of Firefox(i.e., Firefox 4,5,10 and Firefox 12). So please help me to rectify this problem.I am impressed by the improvements made in the latest versions of Firefox but due to this problem Firefox has become useless for me.
Don't tell me about "places.sqlite" "localstore.rdf" and all that shit.I've searched the whole God damned Web,Tried changing to new Profile,Deleted localstore.rdf and saw whether it will work. This is my last resort. Firefox 3.6 was a great browser.Within a span of one year you morons have jumped from Firefox v3.6 to Firefox v12! Not allowing the Extension ecosystem to stabilize.Giving no time to apps developers to catchup. The App developers have fallen behind and half of my addons are not working. You people have become an example on how to kill a great product. The guys at MS might be watching in delight the Firefox's harakiri!
    Thank You,
    Helme.

Since I only ever put add-on buttons on the main Navigation toolbar (or the Add-ons bar) rather than my own custom bar, I haven't experienced this myself.
Can you detect a pattern with particular add-ons' buttons (or native Firefox buttons) being removed time and again?
In your new profile test, did you add extensions one at a time (one per restart of Firefox), or otherwise try to isolate particular add-ons as the issue? (Bugzilla has at least one example of an extension causing a problem with custom toolbars: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=667627 667627 – divx html5 removes added toolbars]. I don't see this particular extension on your list.)
I wonder whether some extensions now include some kind of grooming function or incompatibility that removes their buttons from custom toolbars? It would be easier to investigate with some problem examples.
