I'm a new Tour user and want to know if it's possible to enter new info into my calendar, memo pad, etc. on my computer and then sync with my Tour.
This tiny keyboard is killing me!

A few things to discuss...so bear with me...
1) Contrary to how others do things, RIM does not provide a desktop PIM. Others force you to use their PIM and only their PIM. RIM provides a conduit software that functions as a bridge between your chosen PIM and the BB. See this KB for compatible PIM's:
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
2) RIM provides a Device Switch Wizard to migrate from another SmartPhone to a BB...but only for compatible devices. See this KB:
KB05459 How to use the Switch Device Wizard to switch from another smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone
3) If your old device is not compatible with the wizard, then RIM further provides the ability to import from ASCII and CSV files. See this KB:
KB04312 Create and synchronize with an ASCII export file
KB11194 How to import contacts from an CSV file to the BlackBerry device
Sorry, but RIM provides no assistance on how to get your data out of your old device and into the ASCII or CSV format...that's a function of your old device.
So, your choice is, IMO, to keep using a desktop PIM to manage your data (and you should, IMO)...then choose a compatible PIM (from above). Then, get your data out of your old device and into the desktop PIM. Then, configure the BB to sync with the PIM:

My guess is that the security settings on your router and iPod do not match.
For a test, change your router so there is no security. See if you can connect and get to the Internet. If that works, set up the router with security and use the same settings for the iPod.

Hi there....very blonde new apple user here...how do I move a pictures folder in finder to iphoto??

Hi there I am a new Apple user....using MacBook Pro and also very blonde, I need to move a folder from pictures in Finder to iphoto, if not how do I attach a folder from pictures in Finder to Facebook, because when I try this it only allws me to attach 1 picture at a time from the folder?? Whereas Albums in iphoto are easily posted. So I am vert frustrated becaused I cannot I cannot click and drop Folder from Finder Pictures to iPhoto?? Help me please !!!

To add photos to iPhoto:
Drag to the iPhoto Window
or
File -> Import to Library
or
Drag to the iPhoto icon on the dock.

New mac user here......do I need an anti virs program??

Hi group,
I am a new Mac user after being a windows / pc user forever. I finally got fed up with Windows and it's unstable ways we i purchased an I-mac from my local apple store this weekend. So far everything is working great and I am happy with the Imac.
I do have a questions about the need for an anti-virus software. Do I need one with MAC? I have been told that there are almost no virus with Mac's, unlike a pc where you need nortin or someone other 3rd party package to keep your machine safe while surfing online.
Does my new imac have something pre-installed or should I purchase one?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are hundreds of thousands of viruses and other malicious software programs floating around for Windows, but less than 200 are known to target the Mac, and many of those are aimed at versions of the Mac OS prior to Mac OS X (and thus have no effect on a modern Mac).
It's not that Mac OS X is inherently more secure against viruses than current versions of Windows (although it was clearly more secure than Windows prior to XP SP2); the numerous vulnerabilities reported and patched in recent years are just as exploitable as their Windows equivalents. But most security experts agree that malicious software these days is driven by financial incentives, and it's far more profitable to target the most dominant platform."
Mr. Mogull is a computer security expert. I recommend reading the entire article as it is quite informative.

New Mac user here.....

I actually have 2 questions. First I installed Growl for e-mail notifications. I later deleted the file using app zapper. I thought this deleted all files associates with the application but I still see preferences for Growl Mail in the mail app. anyone know how to delete this?
Also, I have been experiencing the same problems that many have had after the last update with periodic failures of mail to send messages. It usually sends with one of my 3 accounts after several attempts, and even though it fails only sporadically, it is very frustrating. I edited all my mail accounts and still have the problem. I was wondering if anyone was having this issue and it was fixed with the Snow Leopard upgrade since all the apps were updated in that OS.

If you're able to set preferences for Growl in Mail, then you still have the Growl bundle installed, so you need to get rid of that, along with the Preference Pane for it. You'll find them here:
Home/Library/Mail/Bundles
/Library/Preference Panes
Once you remove those, you should be able to restart Mail and not have any problems with Growl.
As for your other problem, I don't experience the issue you describe, so I cannot help with that. I'm inclined to say it's a sporadic, temporary problem with the mail server of your ISP or email provider.

New motion user here, questions

Hello all,
I am new to apple motion 2 and new to video and motion graphics as a whole. I just brought home a new dual core 2 ghz G5 and a 23 inch apple display about a month ago. I currently work doing still graphics, mostly layout and some illustration - working in photoshop, illustrator and indesign primarily. I also do a bit of audio work as a hobby using ableton live.
I have always had an interest in video and animation, but have never gotten into it for some reason. When choosing this machine I had considered the dual 2.5 but decided on the dual 2.0 primarily because "I don't do video, animation, or 3D work".
So, what does my wife buy me for Christmas? A digital video camera! I am not sure if I will pursue video and motion graphics on a professional level, but what I really want to do is artistic experimentation - video art if you will, combining my own video clips, graphics, sound effects, music, creativity and vision into motion monsters.
So, after talking with a few people I ordered motion 2 today and should have it by the end of the week. I do not even have the software yet and I am completely overwhelmed by the creative possibilities - and I am not even sure what they are yet! I am very excited to get into this.
One thing I am wondering about; as I stated above, when I chose my computer one of the reasons I chose the dual 2 ghz was specifically because I do not do this type of work. So now, of-course, I am worried that my machine is not going to be quite up to the task. I see that people are running motion on their powerbooks so I imagine I will be fine, but I suppose I am looking for some re-assurance to help quell my obsessive mind.
My stats are as follows:
Dual Core 2 GHZ G5
2.5 gigs DDR SDRAM
160 GB Hard-drive
NVIDIA GeForce 6600LE 128 mb VRAM
23 Inch Apple HD Display
Is my system going to be up to task? I am already thinking that I am going to need to upgrade my video card and probably buy another hard-drive. Not now, but sometime later in the year. Also, more ram is always good.
Can I expect to run into any limitations out of the box, and in my early stages of learning?
Again, I am sure I will figure this out on my own when my copy of motion arrives later this week but any advice about what I should expect would be great.
Also, any learning resources I should know of that are not immediately obvious on this forum? Suggested reading, books, online, etc. Tutorial dvd's are great for me. I purchased the 1st quicktime tutorial, "getting started in motion" from rippletraining.com and was utterly blown away by that simple lesson. Also, any online resources of work people have done using motion, especially video/audio integration. Bear in mind that although I do design and layout, and audio work I have exactly zero experience in motion graphics and video.
I'm really excited about the possibilities! So yes, if anyone could address my concerns regarding my system, and point me in the right direction for resources to get started I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Graham, and thanks so much for your response.
Like I said before I am really in the dark when it comes to video and motion graphics so I bought motion on someones recomendation without knowing exactly what it is. Silly maybe? But I have a feeling I am going to be happy as I do not want to limit myself strictly to video alone.
I was a little worried that I had made the wrong choice, as I started to realize that motion is geared towards the creation of motion graphics, but regardless I think I will enjoy learning it and finding a way to integrate it into my vision (whatever that may be).
As far as a basic video editor goes, I will look at finalcut express but probably will need a couple of months before I can justify another purchase to the boss (my wife :-P ). In the mean time will iMovie suffice in your opinion for very basic editing and building? Does iMovie play well, or at all, with motion in your opinion?
I imagine I will be able to edit clips to a desired length and output them to motion then dump them back into iMovie if I'd like. I suppose I will find out.
Sheesh, so many questions! Anyway, I planned on getting final cut and after effects at some point down the road and am still excited about diving into motion.

New mac User here, please help

Well, I finally got my first Mac. It's a G3 iMac, 600 MhZ with OS X 10.3.9. I just have one question. The power cord it came with has only 2 prongs on it, it seems it should be grounded, with 3 prongs. Is this OK? Also, the power cord in the back feels pretty loose. The first time I booted it, the power cord jiggled loose and lost power and shut down. Is this a normal problem with older Macs? Thanks.

Was the power cord's plug replaced with a two-prong type or does the plug look like the third/grounding prong was pulled out of it. Perhaps the previous owner of that cord didn't have a grounded receptacle and circumvented the problem by removing the grounding prong. In any event, the EMI shielding and electronics inside the computer need to be connected to a good ground via the third prong. That iMac uses a standard computer power cord (pictured here), which are available from many retailers. I'd recommend replacing it as soon as possible. Unless the power port itself is damaged, the power cord should have a snug fit when fully-inserted.

hi!!! i think im curious about something... I purchased a macbook air last saturday and it had a 128gb storage.. so i updated all the pending apps on the appstore and i downloaded a media player and a flash player... basically i have not saved any music or video files yet... so earlier this day i decided yo checj on my storage space and i was surprised to see that i have around 1 gb of audio and 783. mb of movies used... i also have around 31 gb of apps used..my question is why do i have those 1 gb and 783 mb of storage used when i dont even have any music file or movies on my laptop??? is it part of the app that i downloaded???? thanks!!!

The movies may be "inside" App's - tutorials or help files, sample music (there's some royalty free music included in iPhoto for use in making a quick sideshow). Same with the Images you're sing every single file that can be classified according to 5 data categories: Audio, Movies, Photos, Apps, and Backups. Anything else is categorized as "Other."
It does sometimes happen that you see numbers in this window that are obviously incorrect, "About This Mac" may even report 0KB used for a file type when you know far more than this is on your system. You may have to reindex your system.

I think it is related to viewing video or clips.....

Well, if you're using Chrome, or Firefox go here this should also work with Safari. It will let you know if Flash is already installed in your browser. If your using Chrome it should have been intergrated. Were you able to get Flash installed so you can view video clips? Post back to let us know. Hope this helps. Also install Perian. See if that helps as well.

New user here. Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File Import Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos

That has been true for the previous Aperture versions. Now Aperture simply treats the original image files exactly as they are in the imported library. Referenced images will stay referenced, managed will be imported as managed. But you can always relocate the imported managed images afterwards by using "File > Relocate".

Okay, before you say it, yes, am asking about LOGIC users here to see if they noticed an increase in FPU or DECREASE with new UPDATE, with first LEOPARD, there were spikes, and it used more CPU than TIGER (some are still waiting for Pro Tools)..
Anyway, what is the best way to update to Leopard and still keep my emails (10 different accounts) and just update to LEOPARD ? MBP is my lifeline and I don't want to back up, just install my NFS then go to update, will that work!

New user here. Can I sync with Microsoft Outlook?

Brand new Driod X user here. Is there a way to set up my Droid X to sync with my Microsoft outlook contacts? While the Contact list on the Droid is nice and all when they converted over all my contacts from my Treo it messed up many of them and now I have to re-enter a lot of information and it would be easier to do that if i had my address book on outlook synced with the Droid.

HT201240 New Mac Book Pro user here.

I am a new Mac user; I took my HP into an Apple Store in PA while traveling and had the data transferred to the Mac. They reset the password to do this and I i reset it again when It was returned to me. I failed to write down the administrator's password or the one for Key Log in. I read the instructions regarding resetting the administrator's password that say to use the install disc. This computer did not come with an install disc. This is the most recent version and expensive Mac Book Pro. The security is way too complicated ... for a one person user. I cannot even use the Apple ID password to reset the adminstrator PW or the key log in.

Hold down Command and R keys to boot into recovery.
Select "Terminal" from the "Utilities" menu.
Type "resetpassword" and press enter
This will display a dialog where you can reset the administrator password.

Glad you like the new Community. Communication among user group leaders works a little differently on this site than on the previous site. Rather than having communication focus around e-mail distribution lists, communication now is focused within the site itself. The intent is that this will provide users the one place to come for information, rather than having to sort through lots of e-mail threads. That doesn't mean that e-mail is completely out of the picture though. Users can opt-in to receive e-mail notifications when an individual piece of content is changed, or when content is posted to a space. Look for the "Receive email notifications" link under "Actions" to start receiving notices. To stop receiving notices, go back to the same content/space and click "Stop email notifications".
Your Relationship Manager will be talking with you and the other leaders in your region over the next few days and weeks regarding how you and your group of leaders want to communicate.
