New trackpad not horizontally swiping.

just bought a new trackpad to go with the lion os.  All is working fine except for the four finger horizontal swipe, it's suppose to switch between full screen apps. I have all the correct settings checked in system preferences.  It does work when I switch to three finger swipe, but then I cant use the three finger drag.  Is this happening to anyone else?  Any ideas, or should I return it and try a new pad?

I have an Apple Magic Trackpad I purchased November 2013.  Since upgrading to 10.9 (Maverick) my trackpad will just stop.  My current workaround: turn my Magic Mouse back on (I set it aside in favor of the trackpad), and my trackpad comes back to life.  I turn off the mouse, and the trackpad continues ... for now.
Strange, and I have no other answers for you.

  • New trackpad installed, horizontal scrolling no longer works

I had to install a new trackpad.  Now the horizontal scrolling does not work in any application.  It worked before, so I'll assume my MBP has the capability.  Today, I also installed Mountain Lion hoping Apple might have fixed this problem in the new App.  No such luck.  What could cause this?  Any suggestions to fixing it?

I didn't say that I didn't have a preference pane for the trackbar.  I said that his system preference page was different from what I have for the trackbar.  My system preferences - trackbar page is the same now as it was before I installed the trackpad.  I am trying to say that my new trackpad does not respond to the checked item in  my system preferences for horizontal scrolling.  The new Apple trackpad was purchased from a web-store that specializes in Apple/Mac products.  And, you don't have to be an Einstine to put it in, it just pops in and plugs in and you're on your way.  Not so this time.  I've checked and rechecked my installation.  It appears to be fine.  Maybe it is a bad trackpad, but I didn't think so since it was new,  Plus, when I realized that the horizontal scrolling didn't work, I reinstalled my old trackpad and it no longer executes the horizontal scrolling.  That just ain't right.  It's a mystery that I hoped Apple/Mac might have fixed in an upgrade.  That was the whole reason why I did the upgrade to OS 10.8.  But, they haven't.  I have read pages and pages of discussions from others with the same problem.  Since I didn't see any solutions to help me, I thought I could ask for help for my specific problem.
Nevermind, I guess I've just been wasting my time trying to solve this mystery.  I guess I'll get used to not having horizontal scrolling.
    Thanks for your time.

iCloud should still help you reduce some hard drive space. Just select "optimize" in the icloud tab in Mac Photo App preferences.
Granted, not the same as completely offloading your library to a back-up drive at your location.
    Good Luck!

  • Installed new trackpad...not working correctly

    Hi,
I just installed a new trackpad and it is not working correctly.  The tap to click is not working and it takes extra pressure to even move the tracking arrow.  Any ideas?

  • New trackpad options not working with Lion

It seems like many people are having problems with this option so I'll just make this short and sweet. It seems like all my new trackpad options for Lion aren't working (besides scroll). Not sure if I need to do some manual tuning for this or not, because I though it was all automatically changed. This is disapointing! Just want to know if this is a glitch or if I can to do anything to fix this.

Which trackpad do you have? The two button, one button or no button glass?

  • Just setting up new mac mini however system seems stuck on Bluetooth at startup and not seeing new trackpad or keyboard both wireless?

My new mac mini seems stuck whilst launching for the first time - looking for bluetooth peripherals - they are a new trackpad and wireless keyboard - both in pair mode so I can't see what the issue is..Do I really need to find wired mouse and keyboard to set this up?

Hehehe... Yes, a freshly-booting Mac from the factory can get confused with all that wireless traffic. In the past I've been able to get new Macs to pair with a keyboard and mouse/trackpad by switching the keyboard/mouse/whatever off and then on again while the computer is attempting to find something to pair with. The computer will attempt pairing with the newly-activated device and otherwise pretty much ignore all the other Bluetooth chatter is sees.
That said, whenever I set up a Mac for someone, I always bring a USB keyboard and mouse with me. It makes the process faster and easier. I then set up their Bluetooth input devices later, using System Preferences.

  • Keyboard & trackpad not recognized after sleep

I have a brand new 2012 iMac with a frustrating problem, neither the keyboard or the trackpad is recognized after the machine has gone to sleep.
Once I unplug the keyboard and replug it in, it is fine.
Once I turn the trackpad on and off it is fine.
I can wake up the computer using the power button on the computer (but I still have to 'reconnect' the keyboard and mouse).
I've tried other keyboards. I've reset the SMC controller. I've reset PRAM.
    Ideas.
Brand new system too...  nothing funky installed.

Thanks for the note. I neglected to mention that I had already tried that download. I received the "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed" message. Didn't see where I could do anything with it further.
I also had the issue of my wireless/bluetooth trackpad not being recognized by the mac side when I re-booted. I've re-installed it but obviously don't want to deal with that every time I re-boot.

I think this is an excellent indicator that not only is Palm reviewing the feedback from the support forums here, but actively reviewing feedback/comments/wishes on other sites as well.
As the original poster copied this (quite solid, IMO) wishlist from Pre Central, the palm support staff acknowledged first seeing it there.

  • Photos and new trackpad--novice question

I am having a terrible time getting used to this new trackpad that zooms, rotates, etc. I had an old PowerBook before. I do a lot of Photoshop work, and somehow I keep zooming photos or rotating them when I don't want to. I looked at the trackpad preference illustrations, but I still don't know where to keep my thumb when I am editing photos. Should it not be on the trackpad at all? Is there any way to disable these new functions to make the trackpad like the one I've been used to for so many years? Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much for replying. However, I looked at the trackpad system preference and it does not give me the option, I believe, of turning off rotate, pinch zoom, etc. in the two finger section. I tend to rest my thumb on the trackpad so I can click or double click using my thumb. Photoshop requires many actions also that require you to use both fingers at once. That's where I am running into so much trouble. Any other suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

  • New Trackpads

1.) What types of things can you do with the new trackpads? Can you zoom in and out of any image in Preview and move it around like you can do on the iPhone? What other applications does it work with?
2.) How sensitive is the track pad? Does it seem to do these types of thing when you do not want it to by accidently touching it?
    Thanks.

    1) The types of things you can to with the new fancy trackpad are configurable in the Keyboard & Mouse perfpane in System Preferences. The perfpane has showy animations to teach you how to carry out the appropiate mouse gestures. For now, recent Apple apps recognize and honor all the gestures, especially the three-finger ones (the immediately previous iteration of MB's and MBP's already supported two-finger gestures). Third-party apps will need an update to use these new features.
    2) It is all adjustable to suit your personal taste and ability.
One thing is certain: once seduced by this feature, you won't want to be without it.

  • Macbook pro Late 2011 13.3 inch i7 keyboard and trackpad not working bluetooth showing a cross sign and no usb mouse is detected. Almost dead keyboard and mouse. Earlier same problem used to be solved by opening the lower cover and closing it.

My macbook pro 13.3 inch i7 late 2011 edition has previously encountered unresponsive trackpad and keyboard. To solve that, I used to open the back cover and then close it. It has been working fine since that. Yesterday, same thing happened, this time I noticed that bluetooth icon is showing a cross sign across it and keyboard and trackpad were unesponsive. After some time , everything worked fine and bluetooth sign was back to normal. Then , suddenly it went back to the problem. I shut it down by holding the power button. When I booted it again, I could not login because keyboard and trackpad were not working. I attached a HP mouse it didnt work. I opened the back cover disconnected the battery and then connected it again, didnt worked. Since then , I have tried many things and nothing has solved the problem.

    @sanjampet
As you suggested I reset the smc, in the first boot nothing worked. In the second boot, it all worked like a charm. I thought that my problem is resolved now. To test it, I shut it down properly. Next morning, I powered it on, all things i.e, keyboard, trackpad, bluetooth etc. worked and I thought that problem has been solved. When I was just going to visit apple forum to reply you,  the same problem reappeared. A sawtooth cross over bluetooth icon, keyboard not working, trackpad not working,no usb mouse working which worked well when it was fine. I reset smc so many times again and again but same problem continued. Isn't it a problem of the firmware?
Next time when it will work, I will update its firmware.
My macbook was bought in dec2011 so no warranty now.

  • Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window

Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started 2 days ago. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window?
There is no plus sign and going into optins and changing settings has not worked. I have uninstall FF and reinstall-keeping my personalization-and that was no help.
Right clicking on FF Icon to open a new tab, or going up to FF drop down tab and clicking on new tab both do not work.
Help everything opens a new window not a new tab. there seems to be no way to reset this or to chose a different optin. I just downloaded new tabs at end addon and it didn't do a thing.

as a first troubleshooting step - does it work like normally when you open & run firefox in [[Safe Mode|safemode]] by pressing the shift key while you open firefox (all other instances have to be closed before)...
