New trouble syncing my iPod Nano to Mac OSX 10.4.11

I know there have been discussions on this issue but I'm still needing help. Simply put I have an iPod Nano 4GB and it's about 3.5 years old. I've never had trouble syncing but when I went to charge my Nano, it charged but didn't sync. I look at my iTunes library and I can't even see my device. In fact, I don't even see a 'device' folder. Can somebody help with a 'lay' explanation for me and step by step process on how to get syncing again! (Also, I've received noticed that my USB doesn't have enough power which is a new event as well. Grrrr.

I'm 60 and I can read it. And if I couldn't I would certainly get someone at the store to either get me a magnifying glass or read it to me. And your complaint would seem to be with Argos rather than Apple. I personally wouldn't trade with someone who would not let me read the minimum requirements on the box before purchasing.
No, there is a syndrome at work it but you've yet to get it right. You are correct that you need iTunes to use the 6th Generation Nana, but since iTunes is free and is available on computers from Apple, Dell, HP, Toshiba, Gateway, etc. I fail again to see how this is a vendor lock-in. And after a few months Xplay and others will catch up and provide alternate music managers.

Trouble syncing an ipod nano

Help please! My wife uses this computer to sync her ipod nano. However the computer has just decided to delete certain songs from her ipod claiming that they are not authorised to be played on this computer. The songs, which have all been purchased from iTunes, remain in her library but cannot be downloaded to her ipod. We've tried restoring the ipod, but that made no difference. Any ideas?

Most likely, you'll need to authorize your computer.
To do that, from the "Store" menu in iTunes, click on "Authorize computer..."
Follow the prompts as you enter in your Apple ID and password, etc.
Then, after you have authorized your computer, connect your iPod to your computer again, and try syncing it with iTunes again.
Can you do it now, or no?

so i have had the ipod since december. then i moved and bought a new computer. i cant get my songs from my songs from my ipod onto the computer. what kind of software do i need to get the old songs on the new com????

Try following this guide which explains how to move your iTunes Library to your new computer. This works best if your library is smaller than the iPod capacity. If not click the use alternative CD/DVD method explained on the first paragraph of the guide.

I want to download itunes onto my new ipodnano 8 GB.I have 10.3.9 and how do I upgrade to the best version for this? It is frustrating to have to keep paying.

Here's the requirements for both OSs. In reality you need at least 2 times the minimum RAM specified.

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.

Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.

When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710

The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?

You probably need to set up automatic syncing. If you have not set up anything to sync, iTunes will still sync, but sync nothing.
If you "updated everything," you probably have the new iTunes 12. Connect the iPod. Look on the horizontal bar that goes across the iTunes window (near the top), and click the "device button" (it looks like the connected device). This shows the iPod's "management" screen.
In the sidebar (along left side of window), under Settings, click Music. To the right, you see the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod. Check the box for Sync Music, which enables automatic syncing for Music. NOTE: If that was box not checked already, and you manually added songs to the iPod previously, any songs on the iPod now that are not in your iTunes library will be lost.
Below that, if your iTunes music library is small enough to fit on your iPod completely, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.
Otherwise, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres. Below that, select what you want to sync from the lists of playlists, artists, albums, and genres. The "capacity bar" at the bottom of the screen shows you how much space on the iPod you are using. A convenient way to do this is to first create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, and put only the songs you want on the iPod on those playlists. Or you can use existing playlists. Then, on the iPod's Music screen, only select (checkmark) the those playlists, under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your iPod based on your selection on the iPod's Music screen. Going forward, changes in your iTunes music library sync automatically to the iPod (based on how you set up the iPod's Music screen). If you selected playlists to sync to the iPod, to update songs on the iPod, just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs). The iPod does not need to be connected. The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes updates the iPod with the same changes.

Try a hard reset by pressing the Home button and Wake / Sleep button at the same time, keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.
This does not lose any data on your iPad.

Can you sync an Ipod nano 5th generations with more than one computer. One is a Dell with xp operating system and the other is an Mac laptop.

You may want to reset warnings on the device by right->clicking on it under Devices and choosing Reset Warnings. Then resync the iPod to see if any alerts appear.
Is this the same computer you normally sync the Nano with?

whenever i try and sync my ipod (nano 5th gen) i get an error message saying an unknown error occurred. i have restored it, downloaded the most recent itunes, restarted my computer, used different cables and different USB ports and it still isn't working. it has been fine until about a week ago. what can i do?
