New undocumented parameters for Oracle 11.1.0.7

Oracle 11.1.0.7 has some undocumented new parameters. I was unable to
find anything on Metalink or Google. The parameters are:
cell_offload_compaction
cell_offload_parameters
cell_offload_plan_display
cell_partition_large_extents
Is there anybody who knows what these parameters are about? It looks
like a brand new mechanism, possibly for handling NUMA or, maybe, MODEL
clause and analytic functions? These are wild guesses, I have no clue
about the true nature of the parameters.

OK, I've got a new theory.
I bet it's to do with the new Exabyte storage. The units of an Exadata Storage Server are called "cells" and the parameter names sound right for that. I really like theidea of being able to see the explain plan at the cell level.

  • Solaris 10 configuration parameters for Oracle 10g

    Hello all,
    I have installed:
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit
on the latest version of Solaris 10 SPARC. My /etc/project file looks as follows:
    user.oracle:101:Oracle:::process.max-sem-nsems=(privileged,256,deny);project.max-shm-ids=(privileged,256,deny);project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,17179869184,deny)
I followed the installation guide for 10g and used the max-sem-nsems and max-shm-ids that were recommended. However, the guide was for a 4GB SGA and we are using a 8GB SGA on a machine with 32GB of memory.
Now, my question is, do those nsem and shm-id parameters hold true for larger SGAs? We are having a problem that, when new oracle shadows are created, any processes that check the /proc table becomes painfully slow.

As allways kernel parameter could be found in documentation: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#sthref258

  • Error creating a new Data Source for Oracle connection

I'm trying to create a new data source connection to our
Oracle 10gR2 server using ColdFusion Administrator 6.1 Standard on
    a Windows 2003 server.
I created a System DSN ODBC connection for Oracle. I can use
the ODBC connection when connecting an Access db to Oracle but when
I try to use it w/ ColdFusion Admin it generates the following
    error message:
Connection verification failed for data source: sitest2
    []java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC
    Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error:
    Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
    [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error:
    Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
    Tina

The schema/user is system and the password is alpha-numeric, upper/lower case, no special char ...
As a workaround I was able to add the password to the entry in the datasources.xml file and restarted BI Pub.
The JDBC is working ... I can test the connection successfully ... just wont save the entry

  • Adding custom Adapter information Parameters for Oracle Inbound Telephony

    Hello,
I am implementing a custom adapter for Oracle Inbound telephony. I need to configure a few information parameters for my custom adapter. I am using the "Adapter Server Info <1-6>" fields on the Call Center html administration page (under the "Middleware" section). But I need to configure more than 6 parameters for my adapter. Does anyone know if we can add more "Adapter Server Info" fields?

You may explore using a BPEL process to set the so header for calling the web service instead of directly calling it from BPMN process.
    Steps.
    1)Create a BPEL process.
2)Select the checkbox "Expose as a SOAP service"
3)In the BPEL process, set the SOAP header parameters that are expected by the called web service.
    Refer section
6.22.2 How to Send SOAP Headers in BPEL
    of
    Oracle® Fusion Middleware
Developer’s Guide for Oracle SOA Suite
    11g Release 1 (11.1.1.6.3)
    E10224-15
4)Now in your BPM web service adapter , instead of calling the web service directly, call the web service endpoint of the newly created BPEL process.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • Announcing New! Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Oracle CRM on Demand

    Hi all,
We are very pleased to announce the immediate availability of the new OPA connector for Oracle CRM on Demand. You can find more information and the link to download this connector on the OPA pages on OTN here:
    http://www-content.oracle.com/technetwork/apps-tech/policy-automation/overview/index.html.
Feel free to post to this forum with questions or comments on this new connector. We welcome your feedback.
    Kind regards,
    Davin Fifield
    VP Product Development, OPA

    1. Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Siebel v10.2 requires rulebases to be created with Oracle Policy Modeling 10.2.
    2. Siebel and OPA are separate applications with their own system requirements. There is no need for them to be deployed on the same operating systems / application servers.
    3. The siebel-data-adapter.properties file is found in, for example, the siebel-wd-embedded.war files (for Java) in the location described in the documentation, and in the corresponding .zip files (for .NET).
Note that Oracle Policy Automation Connector for Siebel v10.3 is planned to be available on E-Delivery within a few weeks.

  • Configuring emca for oracle 9i

    Hi,
I have installed oracle 9i on solaris. I have started the enterprise manager using the command emca. Now it asks me to configure the same. I am not aware of the same.
Could someone please tell me how to configure the same or point me to a pdf or article which the respective steps mentioned in details.
    Thanks,
    Anand

You can find basic information and some sample questions by following links from the main Oracle web site: www.oracle.com
Robert Freeman wrote a New Features book for Oracle 9 that may be of interest. Then again reading the Concepts and DBA Admin manual plus peeking at the SQL manual for full syntax and options for covered features would likely be the best study path.

  • New FAQ Entry on JVM Parameters for Large Cache Sizes

I've posted a new [FAQ entry|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/faq/je_faq.html#60] on JVM parameters for large cache sizes. The text of it is as follows:
What JVM parameters should I consider when tuning an application with a large cache size?
If your application has a large cache size, tuning the Java GC may be necessary. You will almost certainly be using a 64b JVM (i.e. -d64), the -server option, and setting your heap and stack sizes with -Xmx and -Xms. Be sure that you don't set the cache size too close to the heap size so that your application has plenty of room for its data and to avoided excessive full GC's. We have found that the Concurrent Mark Sweep GC is generally the best in this environment since it yields more predictable GC results. This can be enabled with -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC.
Best practices dictates that you disable System.gc() calls with -XX:-DisableExplicitGC.
Other JVM options which may prove useful are -XX:NewSize (start with 512m or 1024m as a value), -XX:MaxNewSize (try 1024m as a value), and -XX:CMSInitiatingOccupancyFraction=55. NewSize is typically tuned in relationship to the overall heap size so if you specify this parameter you will also need to provide a -Xmx value. A convenient way of specifying this in relative terms is to use -XX:NewRatio. The values we've suggested are only starting points. The actual values will vary depending on the runtime characteristics of the application.
You may also want to refer to the following articles:

First of all please be aware HSODBC V10 has been desupported and DG4ODBC should be used instead.
The root cause the problem you describe could be related to a timeout of the ODBC driver (especially while taking care of the comment: it happens only for larger tables):
    (0) [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]MySQL server has gone away (SQL State: S1T00; SQL
    (0) Code: 2006)
indicates the Driver or the DB abends the connection due to a timeout.
Check out the wait_timeout mysql variable on the server and increase it.

  • DBAShell - New Open Source Project for Oracle DBA's

I'd like to have this project included in the Open Source Oracle tools list at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/community/opensource_projects.html
I’'ve been an Oracle DBA for quite some time (since 7.0.13) and a developer for many years. One of the things I'’ve always wished for was an easier way to set up environment variables for different Oracle Home’s and a way to provide passwords to scripts without embedding them in plain-view.
About 3 years ago, I started a set of functions and scripts at my company that did exactly just that and provided many more functions for things like checking database status, running scripts quietly unless errors are detected, running actions in parallel (like fast shutdowns at once, or multiple analyzes), restarting databases in a guaranteed fashion, aliases to common folder locations, etc..
About a month ago, after putting all this time and effort into these scripts and using them in production all this time, I realized I wanted more out of the scripts like support for other databases and thought that it would be best if I gave it new life as an Open Source project.
So that is how http://sourceforge.net/projects/dbashell/ was started. Now it’s in a second release (DBAShell 0.85) that is more modular and would allow other people to easily add support for other OS’s, other Shells, and other Databases.
Here is a description of the project from the latest news item:
DBAShell is a project based around Shell functions and scripts designed to make it easy for DBA's to use Databases in a command line environment. Currently supported is Oracle with ksh and bash on AIX, Solaris, Linux. The code base itself is 3 years old and has been in use in Production environments all of that time.
    Features include:
    * Automatic setting of all environment variables based on SID requested.
    * Manage PATH's and other path like variables for each ORACLE_HOME needed.
    * Run scripts with stored passwords (no more hard-coding of passwords!!)
    * Automatically set SID based on Script location (makes it easier to share scripts between SID's)
    * manage temporary script output and check for oracle errors in output
    * check database status and versions from scripts
    * stop/start databases in parallel (faster startup)
    * compile all database objects
    * analyze objects in parallel (Faster analyzes)
    * set aliases and variables for common SID areas, etc..
    * many helpful commands for common Oracle tasks
Over a thousand people have already downloaded the prior release and more are downloading every hour.
I'm seeking feedback from anybody that would be willing to take a look at the project, trying it out, give me any feedback you have on it, and perhaps even direct me to where I could best promote this project.
I wrote a tutorial that shows at a glance some of the more useful features of DBAShell:
    http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=34041&group_id=170224
    Main site:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/dbashell/
    Documentation: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=33704&group_id=170224
    Download:
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dbashell/dbashell-0.85.tar.gz?download

Always glad to have people thinking about the poor DBA's. Usually, the developers get most of the attention in open source.
