New update erased my contacts!

These updates for the iphones are starting to drive me nuts. The update prompted me to download the install, where as a disclaimer it said that I would be able to retrieve my contacts, calendar, and text messages. With that said, I updated the Iphone and after the install, Itunes said it didn't recognize the device. So it told me to revert back to an old backup which I did create one, it just decided to revert back to a brand new iphone's settings.
I at least want my contacts back, is there any way of retrieving them?? If anyone knows, please let me know! Thanks, Steve.

There is no iTunes download for any iOS device.

  • Will syncing with a new computer erase my contacts ?

will syncning my iphone with a new computer erase my contacts ?

Probably.  You can use software such as PhoneView (mac) or Touchcopy (windows) to copy them to from your phone before you do. This must be done before you sync, however, or you contacts will be wiped.

  • New update erased my entire ipod and it changed my itunes. how do i get all pps and things back?

I got a new update last night foe my ipod touch and when it was completed I clicked on the backup for  information. It erased all of my apps, my music, my photos, everything is gone. Can I use my itunes to fix this issue at all??

    Restore from backp
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Will updating my ipod touch with the new update erase all my pictures/music/apps?

I want to get the new update, but I have music on my ipod from other people's computers. Is updating my ipod going to erase everything on it and start all over?

The update itself will not affect your music. However, anytime you do a major update like this one there is a risk that there could be other issues that would require you to restore your device (not likely, but possible). Therefore, you should back up your device before you do the upgrade.
Back it up to iTunes on a computer, or to iCloud. Then do the upgrade to iOS 7.
That way, if you do have an issue that requires a restore, you can restore it to the backup you created.

  • Will syncing to new computer erase earlier contacts?

Before we give Mom her new iPhone for Christmas, I'd like to sync it to my computer first (MBP) and upload all the family contacts. However, eventually she'll sync it with her computer (iMac) and she doesn't use a digital address book.
Will this erase the contacts I put on there?
    Thanks,

Thanks neuroanatomist! I will make sure she has at least one contact in before I do that.

  • New update erased over 400 songs from my iPod?

Downloaded hundreds of songs from CDs to iTunes and have had them on my iPod touch 4g since it came out. With a new Update, all of my songs were erased off of the computer and my iPod. How is this fair? I paid for these songs I shouldn't have to pay again just to buy from iTunes! How can I l my songs back, and will this happen next update or was it a mistake?

An update would not usually delete or lose your music library, so perhaps something else is wrong. Is your Library on an external drive? Have you looked in Windows Explorer for the music?
But - as a last resort if you cannot find the music on your computer, then you may have to re-import them from your CDs. It makes no sense to buy them from iTunes when you originally Downloaded hundreds of songs from CDs
(...don't worry everyone, I can see what's coming!)

  • New update erased all my data

  • Will the new update erase all my iPad2 content

Was just on the phone to the Support Express line ( re a problem that this forum had already solved for me) the guy said I needed to install the update but added its would erase all the content on my iPad. Have only had the ipad2 for 2 weeks and just got it loaded with the stuff I need (not all through iTunes) so would really rather not have to start from scratch. Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes, that's correct. You need to sync your iPad first to create a current backup. Note that anything you've downloaded to the iPad that's not in iTunes will be lost. Syncing is one way - iTunes to iPad. See
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store.
When you update iOS your device is first completely erased. Then the new iOS is installed. You will then be asked if you wish to restore as new or from a backup. If you choose the backup then everything that was most recently synced with iTunes will be restored.

  • 2.1 SW update erased all contacts except one!

I just updated to 2.1 and went to go call someone, only to find out that all of my contacts, except one, have been erased. The one that remained was one that I had edited previously today.

This is supposed to happen! One of the features of the iphone is that when you change your contact account settings on the phone it deletes everything. Thats because in Apple world you dont store your contact on your phone they are only a copy...LOL Sorry but this is the truth.
You would have been presented with a loverly waring saying "All contacts on your iPhone will be deleted if you proceed" guess you missed that one.....I know I did at least once while trying to sort his syncing mess out.
Bad luck but next time sync first, make a backup then change your settings.
Your contacts and calendar - if they are still on your PC/MAC - will appear soon though just be patient. If they are gone from your PC/MAC you are #$#@$@ stuffed.

  • The new update of iOS has wiped my calendar and contact how do I get this back?

Warning I do struggle with technology.........
When syncing with iCloud I loose all my calendar entries and contacts including birthdays and anniversaries, extremely annoyed as have just re entered all contact from previous downloads thefts thinking this were sorted before the new update of iOS it was working properly as downloading but leaving my entries there. Can someone inform me what I am doing wrong and how to get my info back.

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.
