New update messing up iPod

I recently updated my iPod on a macbook and have been having problems ever since. Every time I charge my iPod, my main menu settings reset and my backlight is turned onto "Always on"
Has this happened to anyone else? Please help me if you know what's wrong!

Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

Then try restoring on another computer.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

It is not going to happen. That iPod is not powerful enough to run iOS 7 which the iPhone 5C requires.

I also have an old 20GB i-Pod and I too wanted to know what was in the new version, but like you I couldn't find a list of features or bug fixes or whatever.
I was happy with the i-Pod and I believe in the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", however, I also heard that the new i-Pods have on-the-go playlists, which is a feature I would really like. So, long story short, I used the new updater, the i-Pod now runs ver1.5 but there is no on-the-go feature. I'm guessing it's not supported for my old Hardware. As a compensation, though, I swear it sounds a bit better than before - dunno if there is a new decoder algorithm in the update. Haven't really answered your question, I just want to warn you that if you want to update for a particular feature, it might not be there. Apple really should publish a feature list for all versions. The new updater broke my ipod

I've just installed the new updater for my 5G iPod. Now, when I've got the backlight set to off, I can no longer turn it on again by holding the menu key for a few seconds - it just goes to the previous menu no matter how long I hold it down. However, the backlight does work normally when on a timeout setting
Anyone else having this problem? Think I'll get hold of the bug-fix updater (the previous version!).

the reason is that its doin it is because for the
hold menu thing is that you have to be at the main
menu to turn it off.. its really only for when you
have it switched to "always on" when you have it on

No, it doesn't work at the main menu either. And no, it did work from anywhere with version 1.0.
Basically, the updater broke it like I said, and there was another person who posted the same problem at the same time i did.
This is a bug caused by the updater.

You should ALWAYS make sure that EVERYTHING is on your computer before any update/restore/etc., just as you shuld always make sure that your backup copy of your computer is upt ot date before any update/restore/etc.
If you do lose anything, you would just sync it back.

New update messed up all my photos

I did the new update and my photos got really blurry like I had taken them with a bad camera (not the camera roll just the ones previously sunk with itunes). Then I tried taking all the photos off the phone and resyncing. This proved challenging as anything I asked it to sync or unsync I had to do a hard reset on the phone for it to take affect...What the heck is going on here??? Anyone??

My pictures in the photo library were blurry after OS4 install. I went into itunes, unchecked the sync photos, synced the phone. I then went back, checked the sync photos box, synced my phone again....tada! All fixed.

Thanks, Bob! You are correct. And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE). One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind. Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers. Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

New update messed up onscreen keyboard

well after update all was good until I wanted to reply to an email. then while I was typing i wanted to insert a space and guess what it's dead! all bottom row keys (3) are not selectable. I tried an reply create and even new note and the keys are still not working. I know it's not the screen because I can selecte the phone email web and ipod buttons. I already did a full restore and it's still not fuctioning. Well I guess it's time for a new iphone? I can't enter my wifi password because the "join" key is one of the lower keys affected. Strange. It almost works in the google maps but it is hit and miss. in safari half of the spacebar works from middle to right and google key works
in ladscape mode keys work so I guess something is changing the sensitivity of the screen?

Saw mac genius today. Told him problem. He had to try to fix first so he did an restore. same result. had to send in for repair? why not just exchange? oh well. he said something to the fact that he would give me a loaner phone and wavied the fee ($20?) all I had to do is give my cc for guarantee. Poped out my sim into the loaner and phone is working after he auth in itunes. went home and hooked up to my pc and did a restore and everything is back! even my recent calls Nice!!!! Wow! is all I can say. This is my first apple product and now I know what brand loyalty means.
Repair should take 3-5 days and will be shipped to my home will keep you posted....

New update hosed my Ipod (but I fixed it)

This is to share all of the info that I learned for the past several hours trying to fix my new nano.
I just got the nano and plugged it into my usb port and all was well. Downloaded the latest update software update and it recognized it on ver 1.1 do it needed an update.
Pressed the update button on the ipod updater and the process began. After about 5 minuites something looked wrong. The do not remove screen was on the ipod and the software was locked. I had no choice but to disconnect. After that the ipod would start up fine but could not be recognized in windows or itunes. Did the stupid 5 r's and of course none of that worked. (that is what most of the answers are for the same problem I found in this forum)
Ok now for the solution. I checked in device manager and noticed that the ipod was showing up as a generic hard drive under usb and under disk drives and sometimes windows would assign it a drive letter (sometimes not). When trying to access the drive under windows explorer the program would freeze up for a minuite or 2 than say could not access drive. Something had screwed the FAT 32 file system. I downloaded this program

and after a few minuites it was able to find it (i selected it) and after a few minuites more it reformated it. As soon as it was reformated itunes poped up and said it found the ipod and transfered all the music. Problem solved after hours of frustration. Hope this helps someone.

If you refer to an App. and it doesn't appears on Springboard, you can reboot your iPod. If it not solve the problem, Reboot your iPod from Hardware (Press and keep presing Sleep/Wake button and Home button for about ten seconds until Apple logo appears). It might solve the problem. If not, Sync your iPod on iTunes, it may appears.
You can redownload your App on "purchased" section from iTunes App, it should say "Installed"

iClokldis a cloud service thatcomes with iPOS 5 and you do not have to use that service. If you better describe your problems then we should be able to solve them. First I would try restoring the iPod from backup. See:
