Good Luck

In addition to my post here is the answer why some user doesn't have security updater as an option to update:
It was to clarify the purpose of the update for anyone wondering why they did not find info about the security update when they ran Software Update. It isn't for everyone. This is version 1.1 of the security update. It is a revision. It is specifically targeted at versions or builds of Mac OS X 10.4.9 that developed issues when version 1.0 of the update was issued almost 2 weeks ago on 19 APR 2006 for PPC and Intel Macs. Version 1.0 has been removed from the Apple Downloads page, because it has now been superseded by the revision. Anyone who did not get version 1.0 will now get version 1.1, but folks who already got version 1.0 may not get version 1.1 because it is only targeted at specific users.

  • Anyone having trouble with the new update for 2010 mac book air 10.8.2?

Anyone having trouble with the new update for 2010 mac book air 10.8.2 ? My 2010 Macbook Air has crashed 15times since the 10.8.2 update. Have only once since owning it.

Turned out the hardware was bad.  Apple exchanged it for a new Mac Air and the new trackpad works great.  Thank goodness it was a defect.  If the trackpads all worked like that I would have been bummed.

  • FCE Express HD update for Intel Macs?

Has anyone heard of a release date (I assume there is one) for FCE HD so it will take advantage of the new Macs with the Intel chip? Also is anyone running FCE HD on one of these machines using Rosetta emulator, how is the performance?
    Thanks,
    Mark
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

We are hopefully expecting a new, improved Universal Binary version of FCE in the not too distant future.
Apple, as usual is keeping everyone guessing.
There will be one - the only question is "when".
Look at the grey info strip on the right of this link for confirmation:-
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/
    This is what it says:-
The next feature release of Final Cut Express will be a Universal application, which will run on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Mac computers".

MacFixit (www.macfixit.com) is a useful place to review such updates and discover details about what they do and often what issues arise from them. Well worth a regular read.
Also, not only are these updates available through Software Updates, but additionally from the downloads page at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ This method can be rather less prone to problems than obtaining and installing via Software Updates.
It is also worth adding that when installing updates, it is wise to quit all applications and leave the system alone - particularly once the 'Optimizing System' process is taking place at the end of installation.

You need to upgrade OS X.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory

MACWORLD SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Apple(R) today unveiled all new software for Apple TV(R) that allows movie fans to rent movies on the iTunes(R) Store directly from their widescreen TV, and lowered the price of Apple TV to just $229. With iTunes Movie Rentals and Apple TV, users can just click a button on their remote to effortlessly rent movies from a catalog of over 1,000 titles by the end of February, including over 100 titles in stunning high definition video with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound, with no computer required. "With the new Apple TV and iTunes Movie Rentals, movie lovers can rent DVD-quality or stunning HD movies from their couch with just a click of a button," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "No more driving to the video store or waiting for DVDs to arrive in the mail."
iTunes Movie Rentals feature iTunes' legendary ease of use, which makes discovering and enjoying movie rentals as simple and easy as buying music on iTunes. Once a movie is rented, it starts downloading from the iTunes Store directly to Apple TV, and users with a fast Internet connection can start viewing the movie in seconds. Customers have up to 30 days to start watching it, and once a movie has been started customers have 24 hours to finish it -- or watch it multiple times.
With Apple TV, users can also view photos from their computers, Flickr and .Mac Web Galleries on their widescreen TV as slideshows or screen savers, and anytime photos are updated on Flickr or .Mac, they are automatically updated on Apple TV. *Movie rentals work on iPod classic, iPod nano with video and iPod touch.
**Compatible with 802.11b/g/n. Based on an IEEE 802.11n draft
specification. Wireless video streaming requires an 802.11g/n network.

Yup, updated my Apple TV and got sky news and a couple of other new apps I will never use. I am growing increasingly fed up with looking at all the good stuff there is on offer in America and nothing in the UK..... I know I shouldn't look :)
And it's not just Apple I suppose, checking out the apple and Microsoft US movie stores and they have a much better selection. Wish we all had the willpower to stop giving these companies money until they fulfil customer needs...
Ok rant over, I've been building up to that since I found all the films I love on the US site and can't get them here :(

  • PlainTextPaste for Intel Mac?

I frequently need to copy many file names into an email. I had been using PlainTextPaste, but that does not run on the Intel Macs. Now, when I select more than one file in the Finder, copy, and paste into an email, the actual files themselves get pasted in, and not the names. Does anyone know of another product like PlainTextPaste for Intel Macs, or is there already a way to get the result I want that I don't know about?
    Thanks,

  • Best financial software for Intel Macs

I see to my disgust that Intuit just released a new version of Quicken that is not universal binary. That being the case, what is the best home financial software for Intel Macs?

    Hey Todd,
Just to be sure I am understanding you - you are saying you are miffed because Quicken missed the chance to go Universal Binary. That is understandable, but I just wanted to make sure you knew that it still runs on Intel macs.
I am running the newest release on my Macbook and to be honest Quicken just isn't one of those apps that is going to benefit from more speed.
My frustration has always been that Quicken dumbs down the functionality for the Mac version. Still the case with this last release.
That said, Quicken is still the best buy for my money (sorry couldn't resist!) and runs well via on the Intel macs.
The best solution and the one I am moving toward is to load XP on Parallels and run the PC version of Quicken that way.
Best of all worlds I would say.

  • What is the next software update for my Mac OS X v10.5.8? What do i need to to do?

What is the next software update for my Mac OS X v10.5.8? What do i need to to do?

10.5.8 is the last free update available for your system. If you wish to upgrade to newer versions of Mac OS X, you will first need to purchase and install a copy of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard is back on the online Apple Store, at least in some countries. In the US:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If it's not listed on the web site of the Apple Store in your country, call the online Apple Store, they may still have copies of Snow Leopard available.
Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, you then will have the option to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, if you wish to do so and your system will support it.
    Regards.

  • V10.4.7 for Intel Macs only?

Can anyone confirm for me whether or not there exists a Tiger version 10.4.7 which is only for Intel Macs?

    There was also this:

This updated an Intel Mac up to 10.4.7. It required that a previous version of 10.4 already be installed.

  • Shutterfly Export Assistant for Intel Macs

After successfully downloading/installing Shutterfly's Export Assistant plugin for iPhoto 6.0.5 I soon realized that the "Shutterfly" tab was missing from the iPhoto File/Export menu. Searching Apple's Discussions I found posts of Jan '06 that say that Shutterfly currently does not support this plugin for Intel Macs. In fact, one of the posts gave a link to a Shutterfly page (http://www.shutterfly.com/downloads/sys_req.jsp?sw=osx) which unfortunately states, "Note: New Macintosh computers using an Intel processor are not yet supported." Bummer. I sent email to Shutterfly requesting when their plugin will work. In the meanwhile, does anyone have current informtion that can be shared on this topic? Thanks!

Here is the response from Shutterfly on how to get their Shutterfly Export Assistant for iPhoto on Intel Macs to work. I personally haven't had time to try this yet but plan to soon.
    "Thank you for contacting Shutterfly.
We are sorry to hear that you have been having difficulties in using your plugin. We have heard from a few Mac customers that there are problems using the iPhoto plug-in on computers set up with multiple users. You can certainly try to use the plug-in, but be aware that it may only function for the main (root) user on the Mac by default.
To fix this, you need to go to the iphoto icon in applications, apple/click get info. go to the plug-in section, select the Shutterfly plug-in, click ownership and change it to everyone as opposed to a particular user. This will solve the problem.
Also please note that, there are two versions one for Intel Macs and one for Power PC Macs uninstall the one you currently have installed then reboot your computer go back and redownload the upload assistant and make sure you have the correct version for the processor your using. If you still find you are have these issues please give us a call at (800) 986-1065 and ask to be transferred to technical escalation so we can help you further.
