New User Data Migration

I have some permissions errors and I was told that creating a new user would solve my problem. Does anybody know how to migrate all my data (movies, music, documents) to the new user I created on the same computer?

Hello,
permission problems with the hard drive.
You can repair the disk permissions by doing the following:
Go to Utilities then  to Disk Utility
Click on the Hard Drive on the left Plane in Disk Utilities, then click repair permissions.
Here is an article that will help you:

    Dear All
We are going to migrate from classical general ledger to new general ledger with scenario 3. We have done all the necessary configuration related to new general ledger and also completed the testing. In this regard I would request if any one has experience of data migration from classical to new general eldger.

    Dear Mark,
We had faced the same issue & our communication with OSS brought the following points to the fore:-
    a) The decision to activate doc-splitting MUST be made before go-live.
    b) The migration tool required for data migration into doc-split related tables is    planned by SAP but not yet available.
c)Subsequent activation of doc-split causes serious problems as per note 891144.

  • Upgrading the new hardware, data migration

    Dear Forum;
I need to upgrade the hardware for the IPCC solution we have without changing the versions, the following servers need to have the new hardware:
    1) Call Managers (Publisher + Subscribers).
    2) RGRs
    3) PGs
    4) HDS + ICM + Admin + Web view
As versions will not be changed for all the above, what is the best method to migrate the configurations and scripts in a safe fast way? Can someone advise?
    Regards
    Bilal

    1) In the DC storey, I did not understand the meaning of: promote them to ADs? By the way: Do u mean to install the Domain Controller and AD first and then to promote them to ADs?
You did not say if you wanted a tech refresh on the Domain Controllers or not. In fact you did not say if ICM has a dedicated domain or is using the corporate domain.
If you do have to add new hardware for the Domain Controllers, then I gave you the method:
    1. Add the servers to the existing domain.
    2. Promote them to DCs (using dcpromo) - now your domain has 4 DCs.
    3. Move the FSMO roles from the machine they are now on (probably DC2) to DC4
    4. Move the GC (global catalog) from the machine it is now on (probably DC1) to DC2. Wait a few days for replication of AD and DNS to settle down.
    5. Use dcpromo to demote DC1 and DC2 to become ordinary servers.
    6. Change these machines to be out of the domain (workgroup)
    7. Remove servers. Clean up DNS.
    2)  About the AWs, why to "Add to domain, make into AWs, not HDS"? I mean, why not the HDS? Also what do u mean by promote them to be HDS?
You should always make your AW/HDS in two phases. First, run setup from the media and make a real-time distributor - primary, no secondary. Install the SR. Make sure the real-time feed to your CCs is working. Set it to manual. Now run ICMSetup.exe from the ICM bin and "promote" to an HDS - check the HDS box. It will complain that you have not finished the install because you have not created the HDS DB with ICMDBA. Ignore this but don't start the Distributor. Use SQL backup/restore to build the HDS. Now start the Distributor and check that Replication is all working - increase the trace on rpl to 0xfff so you can see the msgs - check on the logger side with similar trace mask.
    3) About the Central Controller: there are the Logger DB, will this DB has some missing as there is not method to recover this for the last moments (before moving live)?
If you do it correctly using SQL backup/restore you will not lose data. If you have to keep the contact center running on side B while you do side A, things will be a bit more complicated - read the Upgrade Guide to see how logger synchronization solves this.
As I said, if you can have a 12 hour maintenance window for the migration of the CC and bring the whole contact center down to migrate, life will be easier.
As I see the most critical part in this upgrade is not loosing the configuration and it is not the need to build every thing manual (as the moving for registry is easy, and the restore for the database is easy) but the system to become up and running is also easy, but the hard part is the avoid loosing the data. Correct? All the need to have the training is to be around how to avoid loosing the data? But no worry that service will be up and running by having the restore for the database and moving the registry.
I don't follow that paragraph. Backup and restore and import of the registry solves this. Nothing will be lost. Read the Upgrade Guide again.
Do you have a lab system you can practice the migration on? Without this, the risk is huge. You must get a step by step plan written down, and trial this on the lab system.

    Geoff

    Here is my few doubts:
    1. What is Oracle Staging? It is where ODI creates temporary tables. It does the transformation and if required cleans the data aswell.
    2. How Oracle staging is useful for data migration?ODI loads source data into temporary tables(staging) and applying all the required mappings, staging filters, joins and constraints. The staging area is a separate area in the RDBMS (a user/database) where Oracle Data Integrator creates its temporary objects and executes some of the rules (mapping, joins, final filters, aggregations etc.). When performing the operations this way, Oracle Data Integrator behaves like an E-LT as it first extracts and loads the temporary tables and then finishes the transformations in the target RDBMS.
    3. I see few ETL tools for data migration such as Informatica, Ascential Datastage etc. but our requirement is how can we use oracle staging for data migration?

  • MDT 2013 - Create New User

    Hello,
I've recently setup MDT 2013 to deploy some customized images that we deploy to student laptops, that were sysprep-ed and captured with ImageX.  I've uploaded the custom image WIM files to MDT, and setup a task sequence.  Almost everything works,
thanks to Microsoft documentation and searches of this forum for various questions I've had, however I'm stuck on two items:
1.) MDT forces an administrator account to be created during the process.  That's not such a huge issue, but I'd like to disable the administrator account at the end of the task sequence.  I'm not sure where/what to add to do this.
2.) We would like the machine, after imaging, to deploy the generic Windows Welcome, as if it had just been purchased from the OEM.  This way when the student receives the imaged laptop, they can create their own personal account.  These laptops are
not bound to AD.  Right now, when the task sequence finishes the systems are logged in as an administrator.  Again, I'm not sure what code to add to the task sequence (and where) to accomplish this.
Any information or links on what I'm looking for would be greatly appreciated.  I'm sure that both these items are possible, but I'm not using the proper terminology on my searches to find the information I'm looking for.  Thanks!

I question the usage of MDT in this scenario. I also question your premise that your users should go into OOBE Setup.
MDT is designed to assist IT departments in getting windows up on machines in a End to End scenario.
MDT prompts which Task Sequence, Language/Locale/TImezone, Applications, drivers, and User Data Migration Status. Once the TAsk Sequence has started, MDT should be as automated as possible. No prompts, no user interaction.
What you are asking for is the opposite, you want user interaction during deployment, and rather than customizing each deployment, the image is pre-configured. (Unless you have different *types* of machines that require driver loading via MDT).
IN your case I would recommend just slapping an install.Wim up on a WDS server, and custom crafting an unattend.xml file to prompt each user for user accounts. (as long as you don't have to worry about drivers).
The other solution is to prompt the user for their new user account from the MDT wizard, and slam that into the machine during the task sequence (and removal of the Administrator account with net user administrator /active:no )
I actually created a powershell script to accomplish this:
    http://keithga.wordpress.com/2013/09/24/microsoft-account-automation-in-windows-8/
This alternative solution is MDT 400 level work. Scripting required. :^(

  • Data Migration From Peoplesoft , JDEdwards To SAP.

    Hi,
This is kiran here we are doing data Migration work from Peoplesoft And JDEdwards to SAP.in SAP side it involves Master data tables Related to Customer, Vendor, Material. and Meta data tables related to SD, MM, FI. We as SAP Consultant identified Fields from above tables and marked them as Required, Not required, And Mandatory. The Peoplesoft and JDEdwards flocks come up with the same from their side. Then we want map the Fields. as I am new to data Migration any body suggest me what are the steps involves in data Migration How to do Data Mapping in Migration Thanks in advance.
    Thanks
    Kiran.B

    Hi Kiran,
Good... Check out the following documentation and links
Migrating from one ERP solution to another is a very complex undertaking. I don't think I would start with comparing data structures. It would be better to understand the business flows you have currently with any unique customizations and determine how these could be implemented in your target ERP. Once this is in place, you can determine the necessary data unload/reload to seed your target system.
A real configuration of an ERP system will only happen when there is real data in the system. The mapping of legacy system data to a new ERP is a long difficult process, and choices must be made as to what data gets moved and what gets left behind. The only way to verify what you need to actually run in the new ERP environment is to migrate the data over to the ERP development and test environments and test it. The only way to get a smooth transition to a new ERP is to develop processes as automatic as possible to migrate the data from the old system to the new.
Data loading is not a project that can be done after everything else is ready. Just defining the data in the legacy system is a huge horrible task. Actually mapping it to one of the ERP system schemas is a lesson in pain that must be experienced to be believed.
The scope of a data migration project is usually a fairly large development process with a lot of proprietary code written to extract legacy data, transform and load the data into the ERP system. This process is usually called ETL (extract, transform, load.)
How is data put into the ERP?
There is usually a painfully slow data import facility with most ERP systems. Mashing data into the usually undocumented table schema is also an option, but must be carefully researched. Getting the data out of the legacy systems is usually left to the company buying the ERP. These export - import processes can be complex and slow, sometimes specialized ETL tools can help, sometimes it is easier to use what ever your programmers are familiar with, tools such as C, shell or perl.
An interesting thing to note is that many bugs and quirks of the old systems will be found when the data is mapped and examined. I am always amazed at what data I find in a legacy system, usually the data has no relational integrity , note that it does not have much more integrity once it is placed in an ERP system so accurate and clean data going in helps to create a system that can work.
The Business Analysts (BAs) that are good understand the importance of data migration and have an organized plan to migrate the data, allocate resources, give detailed data maps to the migrators (or help create the maps) and give space estimates to the DBAs. Bad BAs can totally fubar the ERP implementation. If the BAs and management cannot fathom that old data must be mapped to the new system, RUN AWAY. The project will fail.

  • Cost Elements (Data Migration)

    Dear Experts,
I am new to data migration. I would like to check whether do we need to migrate controlling documents relating to cost elements (Primary and Secondary)  to the new system.
If yes, where can I find the information
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Controlling documents are created internally when you do transaction along with FI posting and this can be uploaded with LSMW.As it is a data that can be uploaded after the master data has been uploaded in the new system. For LSMW you can visit the following link.

  • Can I migrate data from "old" user account to new user after clean install?

I've just done a clean install of Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro (I erased system drive before install). I've upgraded SL to 10.6.2 using a generic administrator account. And I have an exact bootable clone of my old data (SuperDuper backup on external drive).
I don't care about migrating all my old software; I'll reinstall it. But I would like to migrate system preferences, mail accounts, iCal calendars, and keychains etc. And some silly part of me wants to REname my username. (Also: I can't use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant because some part of the old image has Microsoft Entourage hooks in Mail and MobileMe that I want to get rid of.)
So here's my question: if I create a new account with the NEW user name I want to start using, can I STILL then copy over my old data? I don't know which of the below stuff has my old user name embedded in the data. Here's the list:
    Your data in ~/Documents
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
Also in ~/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need)
~ /Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)

~/Library/Application Support/iMovie (copy the whole folder)
    ~/Pictures/iPhoto library

Thanks for any input! I know a lot of people here have done clean installs, so I appreciate anything you can share.

what exactly do you mean by that? you can use Migration Assistant to migrate your user only (no applications). that should most likely suffice and i don't think Entourage will be a problem. you'll have to delete various entourage folders in your documents folder afterward if you don't plan on using it anymore.
So here's my question: if I create a new account with the NEW user name I want to start using, can I STILL then copy over my old data?
yes, as bdmarsha said, your user name is not mentioned anywhere in your home directory.

  • Using Migration Assistant to Move Data Files from one Account to New User

Is it possible or recommended to use Migration Assistant to move data files from an old user account to a new user account on the same volume/hard disk?

Migration Assitant cannot be used as a simple file transfer utility. MA can transfer an entire Home folder or entire Users folder but not individual files.
In general files in one user account cannot be moved to another user account as this would violate built-in security measures.
What you can do is to copy the files to an external device like a hard drive or flash drive. First log in to the old account. Then configure the drive to ignore preferences by Pressing COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and check the Ignore permissions on this volume checkbox at the bottom of the window. Copy your files to the device. Log into the new account. Verify the external drive is still configured to ignore permissions (reset it, if not.) Copy the files from the external device into the Home folder of the new account. I would create a temporary folder for these files. If you still end up without the proper permissions you will need to make modifications that are easier done if all the files are in a single folder.

  • HT3231 I ended up having to create a new user name because the migration assistant wouldn't let me put the data back onto my original user name.  I now have to log into the new user name to see all my data, apps, photographs etc. What went wrong?

I have a Mac that was part of the recall involved with the faulty Seagate hard drives.  The folks at the Apple Store near me changed the hard drive early December, 2012. I had my data, etc. all backed up on a portable hard drive.  When the Mac was returned with the new hard drive, I used the Migration Assistant to bring everything back over. Trouble was, it wouldn't let me bring it over to my original user name.  I was forced to create a new user name that became the place where everything was restored.  I can't see any data on my old user name, just the basics.  Everything is on the new user name but I wish I didn't have it (just want everything back the way it was originally).  Any suggestions?

Probably the cleanest thing to do is to erase and freshly install the operating system on the new drive. Then, on the first boot up, don't create a new user, instead select the option in Setup Assistant to immediately bring things over from your backup, which you must connect via USB or firewire. Setup Assistant will then recretae your old user to look just like it used to.
Before doing this, make sure you realize you will lose everything on the new drive by erasing it, and make sure your backup is still viable.
