New user. Did something to get boxes around the initial screen.

I cannot slide to unlock. There is a box around the time on my initial screen. How do I get out of this?

You can also go to Settings>General>Accessibility Turn it off, and at the bottom set the triple click shortcut the way you want.

    Hi,
    Before going further, I’d like to recommend you check if the address list is visible in OWA.
    If yes, this issue occurs when the AddressBookRoots attribute of the Microsoft Exchange object does not have the same distinguished name value that is set in the All Address Lists attribute.

  • New User: Needs Help with getting started with the Z

    Hi, my son got a creative Zen for xmas, only getting round to getting it together now, and having some problems with the manual. All this is new to us -technology etc. We have managed to rip a CD but cant get any further! Downloading from internet sounds like such a good idea, but 'know-how-to do' seems light years away in this house! Is there an easy start manual or step by step directions that I've missed out on somewhere? the quick start manual is fine for learning how to use the player but doesn't give any info on ripping CDs and whatever comes after. Can any of you 'experts' bring yourselves back to the begining and explain what to do in simple english?

    Mother,
    I moved and edited your message as your are more likely to get help out here. As far as suggestions go for downloading from the internet goes, there is not a lot of difference between getting it from CDs. The main difference is the process of actually getting the music.
    First off there are several music stores out there and some that are free. Here are a few suggestions (this is all personal knowledge, this is not an official endorsement of any of these):
    Napster - Integrates into Windows Media Player if you desire and can transfer directly to most Zens. Also allows a user to subscribe to an account that allows for streaming and computer only downloads of music (must purchase song to transfer to the player...usually around .99 a song)
    Buymusic.com - Website interface that sells individual tracks and albums.
    Wallmart music store - Website interface that sells individual tracks and albums.
    There are others but these three are the mains ones (outside of itunes, which is designed for the Ipod).
    Basically once you download them, you go into MediaSource or Windows Media Player and add the files to the music library. Then you just transfer like you do with CDs.

    iTunes is required to initially activate the phone. Back when the iPhone 3G was sold, you would take it out of the box and see a "Connect to iTunes" screen. She HAD to connect to a computer in order to begin using the phone. Does she remember what computer this was?

  • Is there a way to create menus without boxes around the text?

    I'm fairly new to Muse, but I'm hung up on this one issue.  I'd like to insert a text menu without the boxes around the text.
    What I have tried:
    Dragged in a horizontal menu from the Widget Library to my header for my master menu.  I've spent over an hour trying to find a way to make the surrounding boxes go away, but can't.  I realize that I can insert text, and link the text to particular pages, but I don't want to have to do this if at all possible.
    Thank you!

    Hi
    You can use No Fill for menu items and define same for all states :
    Also if there is stroke value, you can lower down to 0 which would remove any border weight.
    Let me know if I am missing something here.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • I have these black boxes surrounding things, e.g., there is a black box around the red "close" button on the upper left corner of this page.  There is also an oblong black box

    Hi - I'm not only having trouble waking up my MBP from sleep and having to restart repeatedly which is a pain in itself, but now when it restarted, I have these black boxes surrounding things, e.g., there is a black box around the red "close" button on the upper left corner of this page.  There is also an oblong resizable black box sitting on top of anything.  The content changes depending on the actions I take.  Right now it says, "You are currently on a close button.  To click this button, which closes the current window, press Control-Option-Space."  Right now I'm open in Firefox, but it doesn't matter if only Finder is open, it's still there.  I've tried closing all my applications and restarting and I also reset the PRAM.  It won't go away.  It's probably something simple, but I don't know how to get rid of it.  Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Janet

    Thanks so much.  I saw this on "desktop strangeness" immediately after I posted and tried to retract my question.  It worked perfectly.  I'm not sure how VoiceOver got turned on unless something happened when I was trying to wake up the computer.  I open the lid and it flashes whatever is open and then the screen goes black and I can't wake it up.  Still looking for the resolution to this.

    orshikhfromsc,
    boot from the Mac OS X Install DVD that originally came in the box with your MacBook Pro (by holding down the C key as it starts up). When the desktop appears, select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and erase your internal disk. After it’s been erased, reformat it. After it’s been reformatted, exit Disk Utility and reïnstall the version of Mac OS X from that DVD onto your internal disk. After that version of Mac OS X has been reïnstalled, boot from your internal disk and run Software Update to get it up-to-date within that version; that should allow you to redownload and reïnstall Mavericks, if  desired. If Mavericks is reïnstalled, run Software Update again to get it up to date.
    If you no longer have the two grey installation DVDs, you can purchase a replacement set from either Apple or iFixit.

  • The icons and boxes around the icons of web pages are not showing

    Imagine when looking at the Mozilla "enter your username and password page" all you see is text but no boxes around the fields. Well...that is what I see. I see "Enter your username" but next to it is no boxes around the field to enter the username. I have to click around to see where I can type in the box.
    Other pages like the Office 360 email page used to show little curved arrow buttons like "reply" and "reply all" and "Delete" with a red X but now just greyish looking pages. I tried resetting FF to default.

    If you are having the same issue on several computers then it is a hardware issue! Not a software issue! Replacement is the only resolution!

    You appear to have the VoiceOver Accesibility feature turned on.
    Try triple clicking the Home button and then going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turning all the Accessibility feature off. If problem see:

  • On boot up my macbook gets hung on the blue screen

    On Boot up my MacBook Pro gets hung on the blues screen.  I have to close the display let it sit for about a minute and then open it back up.  Then the sign in window wil come up.  Next I have to wait 5 to 8 minutes after selection of a user name to be able to enter my password.
    I just had to restore my OS from Time Machine because it would not boot up.
    any suggestions?

    If you haven't already purchased a new disk, I would strongly advocate getting an SSD drive to replace the failed hard disk in your machine.
    I would recommend nothing but Intel SSDs - they are by far the best-performing ones out there. I have a 240GB Intel 520 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167086 - in my Late 2011 MacBook Pro with 10.6.8. Downloading, opening multiple tabs while browsing, bootup, shutdown or software install speed, it's an incredible dream. A full install of 10.6 last night was completed in 5 mins and 35 seconds on my machine!
    There are also other high-performance SSDs like the Samsung 840 Pro - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147193 - but from my personal experience (installed in a client's office PC), no consumer SSD can best the Intel in performance.
    Regarding getting the machine back to a usable state after its drive crash - I recommend doing a clean install of the OS along with all the programs you use, doing an initial sync with Time Machine, booting back to the Mac OS X Install DVD and making a DMG disk image of your new drive to be saved on an external backup hard disk (perhaps your TM drive).
    Reason being if your machine screws up in one way or another in the future - be it a misbehaving software update or another disk failure - you can just plop in a new drive, boot with the Install DVD, plug in your external drive and restore the "master" image to your new drive and restarting from it; all your programs will already be there without needing to go through the tedious process of reactivating et cetra. You can then immediately retrieve any missing documents from your TM backup with little hassle since the system was already synced to TM and it will recognize it as the "same" Mac despite the drive change.
    Of course, with anything comes pros and cons - and the cons in this case are needing to fiddle around with the command-line interface (Terminal) and some initial fidgeting with external drives. However, it will all be smooth sailing for future disasters once the "master" image for your machine is saved on the drive.

  • Get rid of the initial asterisk when using PasswordField masking in console

    Hi!
    How can I get rid of the initial astrerisk when using the PasswordField script from Sun?
    I've tried to check whether the BufferedReader is empty or not, but with no succes.
    Here comes the code:
    PasswordField.java
    import java.io.*;
    public class PasswordField {
        *@param prompt The prompt to display to the user
        *@return The password as entered by the user
       public static String readPassword (String prompt) {
          EraserThread et = new EraserThread(prompt);
          Thread mask = new Thread(et);
          mask.start();
          BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
          String password = "";
          try {
             password = in.readLine();
          } catch (IOException ioe) {
            ioe.printStackTrace();
          // stop masking
          et.stopMasking();
          // return the password entered by the user
          return password;
    }EraserThread
    import java.io.*;
    class EraserThread implements Runnable {
       private boolean stop;
        *@param The prompt displayed to the user
       public EraserThread(String prompt) {
           System.out.print(prompt);
        * Begin masking...display asterisks (*)
       public void run () {
          stop = true;
          while (stop) {
             System.out.print("\010*");
          try {
             Thread.currentThread().sleep(1);
             } catch(InterruptedException ie) {
                ie.printStackTrace();
        * Instruct the thread to stop masking
       public void stopMasking() {
          this.stop = false;
    }

    Hello Yajai,
    The example program will use the default value for timeout, 10 seconds. To change this, you will have to set the Stream.Timeout value. I inserted this function into the example and set it equal to -1, and the program will wait indefinitely for the trigger signal without timing out. Please see the attached image to how this was implemented.
    I hope this help. Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Regards,
    Sean C.
