NEW USER - - HELP WITH SET UP PLEAS

Hey. I'm trying to connect a WRT54GS wireless router to my computer. The modem that I'm using is connected to another computer. So i'm a little confused on how to connect them all. Please help!

THIS SHOULD BE YOUR SETUP.
MODEM------ROUTER-----COMPUTER
1. Make sure that you can access the internet when the computer is directly connected to the modem
2. Make sure that you are using an ethernet cable when the computer is connected to the modem. If you are using a USB cable - you need to contact your ISP to ask them to change the settings on the modem to use the ethernet cable.
3. If you already verified that you can access the internet when directly connected to the modem using an ethernet cable, then run the cd that came with the router. It will provide you step by step instructions on how to connect the router.

Hi everyone, Newbie here!
I am going to set my new computer up tomorrow. The computer I am using at present was installed and set up by someone else so this will be a great learning curve for me. Also I had Infinity installed by the engineer.
Is everything I need to install relating to my broadband available to download? What do I need altogether? I spoke to a BT chap on the phone and he said he would help by remote access. I am a bit nervous of this!
I need to ensure my computer is safe and secure and it all seems technically daunting. Norton security came with my Microsoft Office package. Is this better than McAfee (Net Protect Plus), do I need both? What about a key code scrambler (someone mentioned this to me). As you can see I need reassurance and help arghhhhhhh.
A step by step guide would be great!

It is best not to install any of the BT software, just connect your computer to the BT Home hub using an Ethernet cable, or by using the wireless key, if its a wireless connected computers.

Using a direct cable connection is best, if you want to get maximum speed.
I would not allow anyone remote access, but if you have no choice, and cannot resolve the issue any other way, then make sure that it is as a direct result of you ringing BT, and not some random person ringing you at home, pretending to be from BT or even Microsoft.
Many people have been caught out by that type of call, and had their computer infected with spyware.
If you already have a trial version of Norton Security, then by all means use it until it expires, then uninstall it.
After that, you have the choice of using the free Microsoft Security Essentials, which is preferred by many forum members, or using BTs Netprotect which is free with some broadband packages. This has been known to make computers run more slowly though.

How did you change your user name?
resetpassword wouldn't have done it. If you managed to create a new user, then your data is still in the old account.

Prior to purchasing Airport Extreme had a standard modem/ wireless router from ATT for DSL. I have two macbooks both dropped connections while online with older modem.

you can't. the extreme is only a router. you need a separate modem (or disable the wireless part of your old router and use it as a modem - if that's possible).

You will need an external hard drive (formatted for a Mac).
Then you plug it in and go to system preferences>time machine and select the external HD and turn it on.
The backups are automatic.

Help with setting up a new user account

What is the solution to file sharing on the same computer with two separate User Accounts? I want to set up a new user account, but I want to be able to access the Documents, Music, Movies and Pictures folders, as well as others possibly in the original account. Is this easy to do, and/or possible without messing around too much with permissions and the like?

Setting up read only access for other users is pretty easy. Just change a few permissions and you're done. I'll show you how to do it if you like.
Setting up full read+write, well, that's a little trickier. It's because of how Mac OS X sets up permissions on new files and folders. By default, any new file or folder that is created gets full read and write permissions for the user that created it, and read-only for everyone else.
Changing permissions on the two users' home folders to that both users have full read+write for everything inside can be done, and it's not too hard. The problem is when new files are added - they will be read only for the other user. So the procedure has to be repeated again and again, every time a new file is created.
Having said that, it is possible to set up Access Control Lists on certain folders, so that anything that is created in to copied to the folder automatically gets read+write for both users. This is a little trickier to set up, but it can be done. I use it to share iMovie projects, and an iPhoto library between my and my wife's user accounts and it works well.
The latter solution requires entering some scary-looking Terminal commands. If you bro is scared to ask for help in web forums then he sounds likely to be scared of Terminal commands too. :/

New iMac 21.5". How can I set up a new user account with access to all the files of the original user account?

Running Mavericks on a 2013 iMac 21.5". I want to set up a second user account with different settings that meet the requirements of specific software. I need the files to be accessible by both users. I have made both the main and secondary accounts administrators. I have also enabled file sharing for both. Neither account can see the other's files in Finder.
How can I make all files accessible to both accounts? I read that administrator accounts automatically can see all files on the computer, but it is not working out that way. I have restarted the computer, to no avail.

LinkedList<Rectangle> rects = new LinkedList<Rectangle>();rects is an empty LinkedList at this point. It has no elements added to it.
rects.set(1,myrectangle);So you can't set the item at index 1 (the 2nd element in the list) because it doesn't even exist. You need to add items to it.

Need help with Set-ADUser command

I need a little help with the following command. Im new to PS and I have found this command but it is only one user at a time. I need to be able to update ALL users in AD.
My goal is this. Someone before me set all Users Home numbers to 1234567899 and I need to remove that and leave it blank. The command below allows me to do that but only one user at a time by entering their SAMID.
Is there a way to do this for everyone in AD ?

Lightroom catalog stops lightroom loading - new user help

Hi,
New user to lightroom 3 - created a few catalogs - closed the programme and now all i get is error messages and LR3 will not load. Tried repair - no difference. Tried uninstall and reinstall from cd 3.2 and same error message. Tried deleting all catelog folders and still no sucess - sigh.
Any help appreciated - erroe messages below:
Crashes with message - lightroom - opening catalog: PB285771.orf.lrcat and then the error message , sorry LR is expereincing probs and needs to close and provides the report function, which begins with:

If there was someway of forcing the app to load without trying to open the referenced catelopg above it might work, unless you experts know differently?? (hopefully)

Hi Alan,
I think you are mislead by the semantic of "catalog". Read "database" instead - Adobe marketing may have just voted for a non-tekkie name.... source of a lot of issues...
Large catalogs=databases create problems on old hardware of low specs. If you have a fairly contemporary hardware set-up with 2 GB of RAM I would definitely try with 1 catalog-database only, until you might really run into problems.
It is easy to split catalogs should the need arise, which I second Pete Marshall to doubt.
Whenever you want to see two images together, to compare them, to assign the same keyword to find them together again etc. they need to be in the same database.
Only if you should have worlds totally split apart you could consider multiple catalogs.
There are ways to get pieces across from one to the other(s), but that requires conscious acts best carefully planned.
Your initial post does not strike me as if that should suit your personality?
In order to gain quick and good understanding of the basic principles I'd suggest you invest 15 British Pounds in Victoria Bampton's "The missing FAQs" online http://www.lightroomqueen.com/lrqebook3.php

Error Creating New User Accounts when Setting Terminal Services Attribute

We have just started receiving this error when new users are being created in our domain as part of the new hire process. Does anywhere have any pointers on where to look and what to look for?

Is this something that would indicate that AD isn't replicating across multiple domain servers yet, and thus when it tries to set this attibute this command isn't finding the account? If that is the case is there a way to have a retry put in?

May I ask what version of IDM you're running?
There's a known bug that relates to this functionality. A quick review shows it's a pretty close match (not 100%) to what you described.
Bug 20728: Setting AD 'Terminal Services Local Home Directory' to null in IdM results in WTSSetUserConfig error
It's fixed in 8.1.0.3(or later), 8.0.0.10(or later), or 7.1.1.14(or later).
