When I try to open quicktime - I get error message saying - Failed to Initialise Error #63443. Make sure it is installed properly on the computer. Please help!

Lightroom catalog stops lightroom loading - new user help

Hi,
New user to lightroom 3 - created a few catalogs - closed the programme and now all i get is error messages and LR3 will not load. Tried repair - no difference. Tried uninstall and reinstall from cd 3.2 and same error message. Tried deleting all catelog folders and still no sucess - sigh.
Any help appreciated - erroe messages below:

Hi Alan,
I think you are mislead by the semantic of "catalog". Read "database" instead - Adobe marketing may have just voted for a non-tekkie name.... source of a lot of issues...
Large catalogs=databases create problems on old hardware of low specs. If you have a fairly contemporary hardware set-up with 2 GB of RAM I would definitely try with 1 catalog-database only, until you might really run into problems.
It is easy to split catalogs should the need arise, which I second Pete Marshall to doubt.
Whenever you want to see two images together, to compare them, to assign the same keyword to find them together again etc. they need to be in the same database.
Only if you should have worlds totally split apart you could consider multiple catalogs.
There are ways to get pieces across from one to the other(s), but that requires conscious acts best carefully planned.
Your initial post does not strike me as if that should suit your personality?
In order to gain quick and good understanding of the basic principles I'd suggest you invest 15 British Pounds in Victoria Bampton's "The missing FAQs" online http://www.lightroomqueen.com/lrqebook3.php

NEW USER - HELP NEEDED, Collapsing Header

Need new user help

i am trying to retrieve the length of multiple strings for a homework problem. we have to declare 5 string instance variables (string1�string5). i am wondering what the code is to retrieve any one of the five lengths. the way my code is now i can only get one.

CHANGING DISK PARTITIONS, NEW USER, HELP!

Hi friends...i just purchased a new Imac G5 (model before isight) from a friend from out of town, they've been away on buisness so i havent been able to get in touch with them to figure out this very important question!
my disk is split into 2 halves...one (with the mac os x system on it) is only 20 gb, the other is 130 gb...i want to either combine them all or add more to the one but i cant figure out how, when i go to:
disk utility >
partition
it wont let me edit them at all, i dont know what to do any anyones help would be GREATLY GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Normally repartitioning a drive means erasing everything that's on the drive and starting fresh. To do it, you need the OS disks, either the retail Tiger DVD or the Software Restore discs that came with the computer.
With the OS disc in the drive restart the computer holding the C key. (You can also select the OS disc in the Startup Disc pane of System Preferences before restarting.
When the installer comes up, select the Language but then, instead of continuing with the installer, open Disk Utility (it's under one of the choices on the menu bar)
From there, you can go about repartitioning the drive. Since this will effectively clear the drive completely, you will of course need to back up everything before, and reinstall the OS and everything else after repartioning.
Unless you have a really good reason to have 2 or more partitions, you're better off leaving it as a whole.

New User Help Needed Formatting External HD in MS-DOS for PC file migration

I have files on my PC and planned on putting them on a new external HD to transfer to the iMac.
I have a new MiniStack V3 external HD with USB and Firewire connections. It comes formatted for the Mac.
I want to format the HD on the iMac to MS-DOS so I can connect it to my PC; pull off my files; and reconnect to the Mac; pull over the files; and then reformat the external HD for the Mac.
Going into the disk utility I gathered the Erase tab is how you reformat. Only Mac OS choices are available for the format type. *How do you format the disc for Mac OS on the Mac???*

First, select the drive (not the named volume that will appear indented underneath), then switch to the Partition pane. Click the "Options..." button and choose the "GUID Partition Scheme," then partition the drive with a single partition.
Now you can select the named volume, switch to the "Erase" pane, and choose MS-DOS.
That said, you might want to consider using your PC to format the drive using the NTFS format. FAT-32 (the MS-DOS format) has a 4 GB file size limitation, and it is possible that some of the files you wish to transfer exceed this limit (I'm sure you would know better than we). Your iMac will have no trouble accessing the drive and NTFS format, but it will be as read-only. Since you will be formatting it again with the Mac, using HFS+ (Mac OS Extended), you won't need write access to the drive.

1. Make sure that you can access the internet when the computer is directly connected to the modem
2. Make sure that you are using an ethernet cable when the computer is connected to the modem. If you are using a USB cable - you need to contact your ISP to ask them to change the settings on the modem to use the ethernet cable.
3. If you already verified that you can access the internet when directly connected to the modem using an ethernet cable, then run the cd that came with the router. It will provide you step by step instructions on how to connect the router.

These are all non-techical terms and not very descriptive in the context of LabVIEW. Could you be a bit more specific on what kind of problems you encountered?
It would also be important to know your programming background? Are you experienced in any other programming environment? Is labVIEW your first attempt at programming? Are you familiar with general programming terms? Are you trying to program for personal enjoyment, for school, or as part of a job. If your employer forces you to switch to LabVIEW, maybe he could send you to some NI classes.
What is your LabVIEW version?
As anything, there is always an initial hurdle that needs to be overcome before becoming familiar in a new environment. Fortunately, this threshold is very low in the case of LabVIEW and you should be up and running after a couple of hours. Mastery takes a bit longer, of course.
Your best bet is to ask a more specific question here in the forum whenever you get stuck. Good luck and enjoy the ride.

MF Crashes on startup, but works in safe-mode and for a few minutes after making a new user, can anyone help?

After troubleshooting for a few hours, I still cannot find a proper solution. Effectively, I learned that if I create a new profile user, with this command in windows Run: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p , I can open the user profile menu manually, and create/delete a new/not-new user, and upon creating and using a new one, it works fine. For a couple of times opening the browser, anyway, in which it results in the same problem as before. I took a list and compared the old files to a brand new users files, and did find some differences. Take these into effect,
The compatability and extensions .ini files were differed by 3 kb , with a new user being 1, and the old user being 4.
The Local Store .rdf file differed from 2 for a new user, to 4 for an old user.
The Mime Types .rdf file differed from 3 for a new user to 4 for an old user.
Plugin Reg(istry?) .dat differed from 17 new to 20 old.
Search.json differed from 13 new to 16 old.
Search Metadata.json differed from 1 new to 4 old.
URL Classifier Key 3.txt differed from 1 new to 4 old.
Web App Store.sqlite differed from 96 new to 128 old.
(All units are KB)
Seeing as a few articles relating to the problem are "no longer maintained" and the solutions work only temporarily, I came here hoping to fix this little issue. Thank you, and good luck in advance.

She would have to ask her carrier if they unlock iPhones and if she qualifies for this service.

New Users Not Appearing On Login List - Help!

Hello Mac geniuses,
I run a 10.3.9 network in an elementary school, and I since returning from summer vacation I have had problems with many of my client eMacs not displaying the names of users I have added in WGM. These eMacs are also still displaying the names of accounts I have deleted.
If anyone is kind enough to help a stranger, I have copied below the transcripts of my email exchanges with an Apple tech, in my struggle to get my school functioning again. (I have placed them in the correct order so the 1st email is on top and the last on bottom. The tech's name is John and I am using "Jon" to make it slightly less confusing!).

When working with NetInfo, which we are and hope to have some more articles on in the near future, it is important to know
how to back up to a previous version of your database.
1. First, the most brutal way of recovering from a nonfunctional database.
Boot into single user mode by holding down the "s" key while starting up. Follow the handy instructions Apple gives you at the end of the startup sequence and run fsck. Then mount the system root disk as read/write with:
mount -uw /
Now you can get on with recreating your database in a very brutal way. Remove your current database with:
rm -rf /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb
Now remove the file that prevents the Setup Assistant from running:
m /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
And now reboot to get things rolling.
reboot
This will cause the Setup Assistant to launch, complete with music and bouncing blue blobs. If you remember which account you set up first when you last saw this screen, set up that account now. Otherwise, go with whatever you want for your first
Administrator account. If you match it up with the original Administrator account, all of your permissions should be groovy.
Otherwise, get familiar with chown and chmod and you will be able to set things right.
The above method is rather draconian and isn't for times when you need to replace a complicated NetInfo setup, but should work perfectly well for an essentially single user machine. However that probably rules out most Servers.

John, we're talking about 23 computers here - re-imaging is not an option for me alone unless I have some technical assistance (I don't know how to 'ghost' images across a network).
I was managing the users by Groups though I did have a list of the computers called "lab computers". I just noticed that when I try accessing the Computers tab in WGM (whether on my teacher's station or on the server itself) I get the same error message:

The list of users is a plist file and should be at at /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist on the clients. See this thread for more information:

If you've got a good plist from a client that sees the right users, you should be able to copy it over. If not, try backing up the file from one client and then deleting it and restarting.

Need Help creating new user in Active Directory

I am trying to create a new user in active directory via a java application. I have included the code that I am using. I am able to successfully bind to Active Directory. I have been able to change passwords, and delete users, but I have not been able to create a user.

Normally, you just connect the monitor to the MacBook using a VGA adaptor that you can buy from an Apple Store. Now try System Preferences > Displays > Detect Displays. You should now be able to select a display mode for the monitor. If it still doesn't work, then I'd check that everything is properly connected. I've had problems with colours disappearing due to a faulty connection in the VGA adaptor.
