New user: Logic & surround using existing amp??

Hi
Please excuse my ignorance, but I have done some searching and couldn't find an answer.
I am a new user to Logic, and keen to create surround mixes (5.1). Using a macbook, how can I achieve this in the best and cheapest manner?
I have a hope Sony 5.1 surround system with USB (+optical etc). Can I use this?
I can't see the surround windows in Logic. Is this because it hasn't detected a surround output? I was hoping I could mix and play, record as AC3 and play this via DVD on the system?

don't just sign out!
if you simply sign out, the stuff you recently purchased will be an issue in the future when an update comes out for apps or anything else. restore the device as new from itunes then restore from a back if you have one as stated above...or set up as new and use correct apple id. this will ensure you will be using the apple id that you used originally without issues from the new one.

What's with the new user acct after using Migration Asst? Can I merge users or should I even care?

I used Migration Assistant to bring over photos and music from my PC and a new user account was created on my iMac. I expected this since the instructions on the Apple site mentioned this would happen. But now that it's all over and done it really annoys me to have 2 user accounts. Is it something I should just accept or should I merge the accounts (if that's even possible)?

Please look over http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html towards the bottom where he discusses that. Once you have the data moved into the account you want you can remove the account you don't want by using the System Preferences - Users & Account. The remaining account must be an administrators account though.

How to copy an new user.js over an existing one in the profile

i am silent deploying Firefox on many Pcs at a time.
The Computers now have Firefox 14 on it and the people work with it well.
I ve deployed it with setting changes in the user.js.
Now i must deinstall the Firefox 14 and install Firefox 16 ... the firefox profile is still
in the userprofile.
Now i want to change silent one line in the user.js in my userprofile.... i do the new user.js in the <Programfiles/Firefox/defaults/profile> folder... but the new user.js do not copy in my userprofile and overwrite the old one...
I am searching for an solution to add one setting in my user.js or pref.js in my old profile...

You need to create a batch file.. to copy the user.js file into the profile directory. The problem is... 1st The directory generates a random name when installed. 2nd it places a . in the directory name it creates. copy will not work.
To get around this .. there is a simple "for" command you can place in a batch file and will do the trick. example shown below.

New user session from an existing logged in user browser window

I have a requirement that says, a new browser window should be popped up with a new user session from the current "logged in user" browser window when he clicks a button event.
What I have with me is the "UserID" of that new user. Is it possible in portal?

I know that you can manually click CTL-N to open a new browser window and the user is still authenticated.
So I would think that you could code a similar function into the button event.

Difficulty of a new user in getting used to Mac

This is my first Mac, switching over from Windows. I have difficulty in getting adjusted to Mac. Admittedly I am a working adult who uses Windows at Office and hence have only an hour or so in the evening to get familiar with Mac.
Firstly, I have to transfer my files over to Mac. There is a compatibility matter, starting with the file format in my external hard disk: NTSC vs OS.
I have been unsuccesful in importing my emails from Outlook Express 3 to Eudora or iMail.
Then I have to install, or search, for softwares that are OS compatible for my Palm, Motorola mobile phone and Canon Pixma printer.
When installing the OS version for the printer, the Mac hung! This was only less than a week after I bought the Mac and I was very disappointed at that time. Only after repeated attempts at rebooting did the Mac finally restarted.
Then I started importing digital potos from my Nikon camera. I was familiar with editing and cropping the photos using Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I now find difficulty to do editing using iPhoto. (I can't even find the command to change the photo from landscape to portrait!) I know this may be just a matter of time but it can be very taxing and frustruating at the start.
I am having a bit of regrets and am starting to think if I should buy another Windows notebook as a second notebook (which will make this Mac a bit of a while elephant), or trade in this 3 weeks-old Mac.
I am sure there are many who have gone through this experience. Is it worth hanging in there? Is there a Windows Anonymous (just like Alcoholic Anonymous) group out there that provides help and emotional support for users weaning away from Windows to Mac?

it can be hard to rewire your reflexes when a different OS is already second nature to you. maybe you did make the wrong choice for you personally in getting a mac, if you really never had a problem with the windows world and could do everything you needed to do. but I will say that most people that try using a different platform machine to the one they're used to usually remain quite frustrated for quite some time at the start, and that's where the 'macs are just rubbish' or 'windows is just a mess and illogical' knee-jerk reaction you often hear comes from. it happens to me all the time when I have been in situations where I need to work on an XP machine, it just annoys me because it's not what I'm used to.
one thing is for sure though.. the mac OS and mac apps are certainly more consistent and well-designed from a user perspective than XP or even vista. so once you start learning the fundamentals of the mac, you are more rewarded as you go along because everything you learn builds on the same techniques and ideas in a far more structured way than in the windows world.
by then, you'll probably also start appreciating the attention to detail and functional elegance of OSX. a lot of people blindly talk about the mac as being a whole lot of pretty eye-candy, but that it doesn't do anything special that you can't do in windows. well, let me give you a small example of how this isn't the case:
exposé in mac OSX is the system used for allowing you to manage your access to the windows you have open on your desktop. by hitting a key, you get to see at a glance every single open window, and quickly locate the one you need up front. it also let's you move everything out of the way at the touch of one button, to give you clean access to the desktop.
windows vista has added a feature with a similar idea. it allows you to stack all of your windows into a visually impressive 3D stack, and scroll through them (I think by using the scrollwheel on your mouse) to find the one you're looking for.
now, a lot of windows people criticise exposé as being yet another example of pretty mac eye-candy, the way it zooms your windows in and out in realtime and let's you see them in miniature, even with videos continuing to play live if any are open. but.. the thing about the mac approach, is that by using a visual means to implement this feature, it makes use of it by _adding functionality_. by the way exposé works, you can actually see what you are looking for instantly, and dive into it right away. but the vista equivalent of this feature doesn't actually give you any more functionality _at all_ than what you already had with alt-tab. you can't see what window you want because they're all stacked on top of each other, even though they may look pretty and high-tech in that 3D card stack. but all it is, is a fancied-up implementation of the very same function you already had, with a 3D visual design that doesn't help you in any way except to look impressive. this is the very definition of eye-candy!
it's this sort of thing that you start appreciating more and more as you get to know macs. the fact that there is a difference between good design being implemented thoughtfully and logically, and just spruced-up colourful interfaces that may look modern, but don't actually contribute to making your workflow better.
personally I believe it's worth the effort to push through and learn how to use the mac you bought. the rewards are there, you just have to take the time to get your head around it.

Can I create ASP user validated website using existing MD5 passwords from SQL table?

I'm attempting to build a user authenticated site in Dreamweaver CS5 using an existing USERS table from another site. The password field in the existing SQL table appears to be MD5 encoded. How can I MD5 encode the form field (or the SQL query) so that it verifies MD5 to MD5?
Currently, it's comparing the form's plain text field to the MD5 encrypted password field in SQL.

unfortunately classic asp does not have a built in function for md5. what we used for our legacy sites is a javascript that hashes a string to MD5. here's the code we've used in the past http://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/md5.html

New User - Query on using Shuffle on iPod Classic

I am a lover of both rock/blues/pop music and of classical music, I want the shuffle facility to operate on my rock/blues/pop category only. However when I use the shuffle songs facility it shuffles all categories and a rock/blues/pop and random classical musical tracks mixture does not make good listening. Is there any way of achieving the separation I want?

Make a smart playlist with the following criteria:
Match any
Genre contains rock
Genre contains blues
Genre contains pop
(or what ever genre labels you've used)
Then, shuffle just that playlist. If you don't want to mess with a smart playlist, just make a regular playlist and drag everything you want to hear shuffled to it.
And/or select all your Classical music, Get Info> and tick the Skip while shuffling box.
Mix and match. Best of luck.

Unable to create new user when logged as SYS or SYSTEM user. Oracle 11g

Hello I installed oracle 11g databse. The installation went OK.
But when I tried to create a new user or alter an existing I always got "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges".
However I was able to alter SYS user when I was loged in as SYS or SYSTEM user when I was loged in as SYSTEM.
I am also able to create new tables, drop tables, query tables, create and drop synonyms and all other things except manipulate with users;
Can anybody tell me where could be the problem?

I have checked the roles DBA, RESOURCE..(I am sorry byt I dont know what is role CREATE). SYS user has all these roles with admin option and default checked.
I am using oracle Enterprise manager, but I dont know where should I click on the red mark? Where can I find it?
