New User: LR imports all Canon RAW's and jpgs Red / Pink

I'm not a guru or professional - I shoot alot with an XTi / 400 with various lenses - been successful using Canon's software. Downloaded LR and imported Canon RAW's and they're all red / pink - entirely red / pink. I have spent 3 to 4 hours reading forums / searching for answers and cannot find anyone else with this problem. I then tried importing jpgs from a Sony - they're also red / pink - very frustrating. Leads me to believe perhaps I have a driver / card issue on my computer.
I'm running a 2.8 P4 with HT, 1 gig RAM, video I think is an older nvidia 9600 (not sure I'm not at my computer this moment). Anyway, anybody with any tips on what to do? I have been through every menu item repeatedly looking for some kind of clue - heretofore the answer eludes me.
Appreciate any help / hints!
Trey

My usual suggestion it to start out by adjusting your monitor by eye using Norman Koren's calibration charts, after eliminating any monitor profile in the OS.

If you are not satisfied with those results, you can move on to something like the Pantone Huey or Huey Pro, the ColorVision Spyder series, one another similar device.

  • How do I create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user

This is why I think I need to.
My computer got hit by lightening, and I may have created a new user account through netinfo rather than system preferences /accounts/+user. Mail used to open twice, but no longer. Now, Safari askes me for my keychain password twice, Spotlight can't find a folder on the computer when the search is restricted to folder and computer, though the folder is there and easyfind finds it, and when System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy has the hard drive icon added, then deleted, Spotlight still does not find anything. (Yes, everything is backed up, on CD, DVD, and online.) Microsoft Tec Support says
"Here is a summary of the key points of the case for your records.
When you contacted us on August 8, you had requested assistance with Microsoft Office 2004, as your installation of the updates was unable to find the correct version of the software to update. After creating a New MAC User, we identified the issue to be with a corrupt MAC User account, and not a Microsoft issue. "
I believe Microsoft. So, creating a new user was easy.
But copying files uses up too much hard drive (movies, music), and may miss keychains, preferences, mail, address book, and documents. Since Spotlight no longer works, who knows what is happening. (Yes, I've repaired persmissions, and disk repair. No change). I'm using up my hard drive trying to move files to the new user. If I share files, or put them into a public folder, then delete the old user, will I still have the old user's files in the new user's account? It is not clear to me what I should be trying to do in order to create a new user, move my old files etc over, and delete old user. Thanks.
My responses will be slow, because I have to drive to town to use the internet. I've ordered a new airport which may take care of that problem. SO be patient.

    Hey -
I need to do the EXACT same thing, but have no idea how. Has anyone out there done this?
My situation is a tad different..this is a new Mac (and I'm a brand new Mac user). Tons of querks occur under my original account (videos won't run, Safari won't support certain plug-ins). I spent 6 hours on the phone w/ 4 different Apple Reps and nobody could fix it. A rep finally looked at my MacBook Pro in person today. He created a new account just to see if that would work and under that new account, everything works perfectly fine (no querks, can view video). He tried switching a million settings in my original account to no avail.
He said to create a new account (as he did) and move my files over to the new account and then go back to the original and delete it. How do you do this?! I can't figure it out! I've got a new account created, but of course it just has the default folders in it w/ the little red icons next to them! Thanks in advance!

If the answer to the above question is "yes", FIRST, set up a backup of your new computer before you do anything else so the next time your computer breaks you will not be in the same situation. Backup solutions are numerous and inexpensive, and there is absolutely no excuse in the Third Millennium not to have one.

FaceTime is included in Lion. The App Store version is for 10.6. If you deleted it, restore it from a backup, or reinstall the Mac OS.

  • Got new MacBook, successfully imported all data, but it wont see my iPod?

I used the step-by-step transfer the MacBook started when I first booted up to transfer evrything from my old G4 powerbook to my super cool new MacBook, was thrilled that everything went smoothly and finished in 8.5 hours! but while the new macbook will charge my ipod, itunes does not recognize it as an ipod...I authorized the macbook to use the music store, and all my music plays, but it will not update the ipod...what am I missing? many thanks!

    Hi Olive-oil,
I too recently upgraded and when I tried connecting the iPod had the same issue. I don't know if you're doing this, but I tried using the firewire cable that came with my iPod mini and it wouldn't let me put anything onto the iPod. If you are doing this, just use the USB cable instead, and see if that works.
    Hope that helps.

  • How can I import all photos from iPhoto and delete all the ones currently on my iPad?

I uploaded all of my iPad's photos to iPhoto('08) thinking it would be easier to delete and organize them. Now that I've done that in iPhoto I need help finding out how to delete all the photos from the iPad and have the iPhoto photos imported from iPhoto back to the iPad.

This workflow may do what you want:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new library.
2 - connect the iPad to your Mac with the new library open.
3 - import all of the photos from the iPad into the new library.
4 - select the option to delete all of the photos from the iPad.
5 - disconnect the iPad and delete the new library.
6 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and select your original library.
7 - assemble the photos destined for the iPad so you can easily identify them by album or event which you alread have done.
8 - launch iTunes and connect the iPad to your Mac.
9 - go to the photos section for you iPad and synce those particular albums or Events with the iPad.
That will get those specific iPad photos back into the iPad.

  • Opening new user account- how can I moved mail and contacts?

I would like to open a new user account on my mac and move (or copy) a few things to the new account. I would like to move the mail including all the mails stored, the contacts, some of the folders etc. Is it possible? How can it be done?
    Thanks, Alon

No. Not the main Library folder. Make absolutely sure you are in the Home Library folder and not the main Library folder.
Your Home Library folder is hidden in Lion. To get to it, in the Finder menu, select GO and hold the option key down. Select Library in the submenu. The Finder window will open in your Home Library. This is where your user prefs are stored.
Once there, you will see the Preferences folder. Open it up, select all items within it and move them to the trash. You will need to restart in order for the new Finder preferences to be recreated.
Once you restart, then you will be back to the default preferences to the system and all applications. And yes, it will affect all settings including your Dock, just as logging into a new user. You will have to reset everything there also.
If you wish to do a selective method, instead of deleting all preferences, try deleting the one associated with your problem. Screen saver problems should be affected by the system preferences, so try deleting this:
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist.lockfile
Note that when you delete system file preferences, a restart will be required. For applications, just quit the application before trashing preference files.

  • How can I import all of my bookmarks and not just some of the like the import tab does?

I tried to import my bookmarks but it took only a few bookmarks and left most of my list behind. I tried the import from IE many times and get the same result so how can I get all my bookmarks moved over?

If you have problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML: From File
See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":

  • Can I transfer CC for Teams membership (Photoshop) to a new user on the same machine without uninstalling and reinstalling software? i.e. one user left new user started needing the same software.

We have Creative Cloud for Teams, most users using Photoshop.  One user left the company and has been replaced by another user.  I removed the first user's membership and assigend it to the new user.  When she runs Photoshop, she gets a 00 Days left message.  Photoshop still seems to be useable right now but I'm wondering if I need to uninstall Photoshop and re-install it using her credentials?  Seems like a lto of unnecessary work to me.

    Hi Batterry,
There is no need for removal of the product . You can simply launch the product , click on Help>Sign out . Close the product and sign in with the new user's Adobe ID & Password. This should activate the product .

  • Storing/Managing all the raw footage and all the completed videos

The iMovie '06 instructional video on the Apple pages mentioned that after we edit out our video and it is complete and ready to be viewed, we can upload it back into the camcorder so that from there the video may be viewed on a TV etc.
This reminds me of something that I thought about a while back and which has to do with keeping copies of our work. My thinking is to put the iMovies into my website but I CAN see my wanting to play it on my 50" TV.
    Questions, then:
    1. If you upload your finished video from the Mac back into your camcorder, then in fact you have a copy right there. So then, DO YOU STILL KEEP THE ORIGINAL CASSETTE OF RAW FOOTAGE AS BACKUP, JUST IN CASE?
    2. In what order would I save to cassette etc if I would like to upload the video to my website AND keep the finished copy in a cassette in my closet as well as in my external hard drive? I ask because I recall earlier that at a certain point, one cannot do certain things with the video. I wish I could recall what I had read.
    3. Here is what I would like to end up with:
    a. The video on my website
    b. The complete video in a cassette so that I could play it on TV if I decide to.
    c. The complete video in my external hard drive.
    d. And actually, WOULD you retain a cassette with all of the raw footage? Or in your external hard drive?
    And the final question is:
HOW DO YOU ARRANGE ALL OF THESE BACKUPS AND COPIES IN YOUR EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE? I am foreseeing options that I can't answer.
For example, do I keep all raw footage in one category, and then all completed video in another category?
Or do I keep things divided up by the particular video itself? By that I mean, do you segregate your backups by all of the raw footage and finished video for TRIP TO ALBANIA, all raw footage and finished video for MARTY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY, all raw footage and finished video for GHOSTS IN THE GARAGE?
And that's just talking about the video clips that you keep INSIDE your computer.
    Thank you for your thoughts.

    Dear Kjolner.....
I'm afraid I am lost with your replies because the terminology in the answers are beyond my understanding. When you say that you save something to tape, do you mean, "back to that same small cassette"? I do not know what an .img file is. I am not clear on saving "small segments" on QT. I would not know how to do that, anyhow. I do not understand what a video -ts folder would be. <gulp> <<double gulp>>
I DO have Tiger and will buy the next one up when it seems safe to do so.
I recently bought a LaCie 500 gigabyte external hard drive to store everything and lighten up my iMac internal hard drive and make it faster. I had to buy that external HD because while attempting to upload my footage from my Sony digital video camera recorder DCR-TRV 11, my iMac sent up messages that I had insufficient space for the activity.. something to that effect.

  • Syncing RAW library and JPG library

    The situation:
I have an external hard disk with a library of many RAW photos. These same photos I also keep in my library of my Macbook, but in JPG. The problem is, is that it's very time consuming and unhandy when want to edit things in one of these libraries, and make sure the other library is updated.
For example, if I see a photo on my Macbook (JPGs) and I want to change something, I label it. And when I happen to be in the reach of my external HD (RAWs) and recall changing this photo, I do so. But that's not it, I have to export it as a JPG, import it in my other library, and delete the old version.
It would be great if this process could be made easier. Ideally, I want to pair the RAWs and JPGs from different libraries, and that they share the adjustments. In that way I can edit the RAW or JPG in either library, and they will sync.

    Thanks for the message.
I don't replace the RAWs, and I don't edit the JPGs. When I don't have the RAWs at hand (which means "no access to external HD"), I label the JPGs of the photos I'd wand to edit. When having access to the drive, I find the RAW-equivalents of these labeled JPGs, edit these RAWs, and export and replace these labeled JPGs on my Macbook.
Sure, copying the adjustments to the RAWs won't work very well, but if it's for example just cropping it shouldn't be a problem. And if more "difficult" adjustments could work nicely too, but you probably will have to fine tune them on the RAW-master. But like I said, I don't do this (because I don't know how), I label the JPGs to edit the RAWs later on. And then update these old labeled JPGs again.
It's not handy at all, but if I'm on a trip for a couple of months, I can't bring these RAWs with me (too much HD space), so that's why I want their JPGs on my Macbook.

  • Raw photos and jpg in photos

Hi I recently switched to the brand new Photos app, now I found my first major problem. I usually shoot in RAW and Jpeg on my camera, when I import these to the photos app I get an icon with a J (believe this tells me there is the raw and jpg file) but when i trie to get Photos to show the RAW file this option is not available. Anyone having similar problems?

I had the same problem and there is a solution.
You need to open the image in Edit mode and then right-click or pull down the Image menu. There you will see the "use RAW as original" option. So far, it seems that Apple has decided that this shouldn't be a global option (even though it was in Aperture) so we're stuck with a clumsy and unintuitive option that doesn't 'just work'. It's a shame, because I've been otherwise impressed with the Photos app.
As for @LarryHN's suggestion, that isn't an option for some of us. I often shoot B&W, if I want to preview in camera, I need the B&W jpg produced in camera. However, I will do final processing on my Mac and for that I will use the original RAW file. So, thanks for your concern, but I am not complicating my life for no reason. However, Apple most definitely is with this photographer unfriendly mess.

  • Import all but raw files (NEF)..?

    Hi all -
New to iPhoto (and iP. only) I wonder if there's a way to batch import folders from 'Pictures' which contain jpeg and NEF (raw) files, without including these NEF files in the import.
I wish to have just jpeg and tiff files in the iPhoto library, or rather - keep all files in their position, but get iPhoto to point at the original jpeg and tiff files.
Suppose alternative is to move all raw files manually into new folders out of reach for iPhoto's import..?
    YoursTruly,

    redtop:
If your files are located in the Picturtes folder together in one subfolder you can sort them by type and the select all by the NEF files to drag into iPhoto's open window. Then when the jpgs and tiffs get copied into the library you can delete them from the Pictures folder to free up space on the HD.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar

  • HT2905 This is all well and good if you only have a Few DUPLICATES in your Library.  But what if you have Hundreds, because every time they come out with a New Version of iTunes, you have to Re-Import all of your Songs and Playlists into your Library?

What is the easiest way to Automatically Remove Duplicates from my iTunes Library (instead of doing it one by one, which is unfeasible when there are Hundreds of duplicates from installing the newest version of iTunes, or putting it and all of your songs on a New Computer, and it loosing track of all of your File Folders and Playlists, so you have to re-import everything, hence why the Thousands of Duplicates...
I know there are programs you can BUY that will remove Duplicate Tracks from your iTunes Library, but iTunes is Free, so why should I PAY to fix something that's screwed up about it?

See my tips on duplicates. If iTunes creates duplicates when you add content then it is a failure of the workflow you are using.
Upgrading iTunes should have no adverse effect on your library, however you should maintain a backup regardless.
See also this migrate iTunes library post on moving the library to a new computer properly so that there is no need to reimport any content and no lost ratings, playlists, play counts etc.
