New User question re BlackBerry Link and Z10 -- can you really reach the computer from the Z10 remotely - how remote?

I am slowly getting there re use and exploring this and that.  Now, I want to know can I really reach my laptop which has BlackBerry Link on it, and my Z10 has all been set up to it, etc., remotely?  I know it can within the same household network, but what about from another network?  Surely it can't do that.  Sorry about the dumb question.
I have unclicked  the connection for the time being as I don't want to lose the phone and have someone grabbing my computer stuff!

Hi janetnewuser,
Any BlackBerry smartphone accessing your computer would be required to be using the same BlackBerry ID you are signed into BlackBerry Link with. You can access files over any Wi-Fi or the mobile network. Your PC must be powered on with BlackBerry Link running for you to access files on it.
This article should provide more information on the security of this feature. "About the security for the BlackBerry Remote File Access feature in BlackBerry Link" http://blackberry.com/btsc/KB34573
You may also find some of the BlackBerry 10 security tips in this blog post useful for securing your information. http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2013/04/five-tip-friday-blackberry-10-security-tips/
Let me know if that helps.

Excuse me apple I had the police nock on my door about an iPad that was located at our house and the owner lost the iPad in-between bowral nsw and Sydney can you please fix the app (Find My IPhone) so that person can find their iPad coz the police would of taken mine if I did not show proof of purchase

You are not communicating with Apple by posting here. Everyone here is just a fellow user and cannot fix anything.
The Find My iPad service may have indeed been accurate to the limits of the technology. Unless the iPad was a 3G unit, location is determined based on the nearest WiFi router which in your case could just happened to have been yours. The police may be the ones who need to "fix" their understanding of how the technology works and its limitations.
If you want to provide feedback to Apple on the matter, you can do so via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
but to be of any good you'll have to provide them with more precise details.
    Regards.

  • New user - questions about email setup and synchronization

    Hi,
I'm a not-particularly-techno-savvy new owner of a BlackBerry Curve 8900. My questions are:
1      I seem to only have the option to use a work email account with a BB Enterprise server and not the option to create or add an email addy. How do I resolve this?
2      I've installed the BlackBerry Desktop Manager but when I try to synchronize data from my device - organiser stuff and contacts - I get a message saying there are no applications configured, with subsequent instructions as to how to do this but I then have to choose from a huge list of folders and other stuff and have no idea what to do!
I'm really hoping someone will be kind enough to try and help as I'm floundering dreadfully.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jan

    Jan,
When you install Desktop Manager it gives you the option to setup with an enterprise server or internet email, I can't tell from your post which you have.
However, to pick the applications to sync, assuming you have Desktop Manager 4.7,
    open Desktop Manager
Click on Synchronize on the left side of the screen
On the next screen that opens, choose Synchronize under the word "Configure" (also put check marks in all the boxes that will allow you to check)
On the next screen to open choose Synchronization on the "right" side
In a couple of seconds another screen will open up where you can choose what applications to sync (calendar in Outlook, tasks in Outlook, Contacts in Outlook etc)  just choose each program you need to sync and choose the program on your PC to use such as Outlook.
I also have the 8900 and it syncs with my Outlook 2003 for contacts, calendar, memo and tasks.
    Hope that helps.

  • Creating a new user to synch ipod, ipad and iphone?

    Hi,
Apologies if this has been covered before. I'm in the middle of moving from the UK to the US. My "real" computer is in transit and I won't have access to it for a few weeks. I'm traveling with an ipad, ipod touch and I've just picked up a us iphone. I'd like to synch everything up, esp the apps between the devices I've brought with me from the UK and the iphone I've just bought.
My partner has his powerbook with him running the latest version of osx. Could I set up a second user account on his machine and synch apps, update locations on the UK devices via itunes on his machine? I don't want to interfere with his existing itunes config, if that makes sense.
    Thanks!
    Pete

That would be feasible. But understand that iDevice syncing is basically one way - computer to iDevice. Since the new user account is essentially empty, when you sync you will lose most everything on your iDevices, except the iPhone which is already empty.
To avoid this you need to start with your iPhone (nothing to lose) so you can then configure iTunes NOT to automatically sync when a device is connected. Then you need a third-party utility that can be used to transfer the contents of your other iDevices into the iTunes session you are setting up in the new user account. There are a lot of utilities for this such as Pod2Mac, PhoneDisk, etc. Look for them at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. Use one or more of these utilities to copy the contents of your iDevices to the iTunes account. Once that's done then you won't lose that data when you sync.
One problem with the above is I don't know what you can do about your contacts, calendar, and email. You will need to arrange to get that data transferred as well. If you have a MobileMe account then all that data is on MobileMe so you can sync it to your iDevices via MobileMe.

  • I set up a new user on my network today and am now in a location without access to that network. I just set her up as a user on her macbook but I can't log in with her credentials. Is that because I am not on the network and it is the initial setup?

You need to set the option to create a mobile account using the Directory Utility app.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

That's weird that these iphones are restored/activated through iTunes. I have a Apple so I have iTunes, yay!! I am guessing that the link that you gave me will tell how to put this iphone into Recovery mode? Now, this old iphone would of been activated on his laptop, which is with him and he is out of state. I have a new Apple, his new iphone would of been activated on our new Apple computer because he was here for Christmas and he didn't bring his laptop with him, or did he bring it with him, I don't remember now.... Now the question is, will I be able to restore his old iphone on my new computer seeing it would of activated on his laptop which is with him out of state. I am so worried that I am going to lock up this phone now. I thought I deleted the orginal guestion, and rewrote it, good grief, lol Oh wow, you are a level 10, I would be at a level -10!

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted from the disc, the USB device, or Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

if you have iPhone4 and can you take out the sim card from iPhone4 and transfer it in to new iPhone4s?

Under the circumstances this will probably considered a dumb question.
I currently have a jailbroken unlocked 3GS with a GoPhone plan.  Works great.  I am considering upgrading to a new factory unlocked 4S.  Will I be able to swap in my current SIM card and go?
