New Uses For Our Current Dyno Thermocouple DAQ System

Hello,
Currently we are using this setup to collect data in our high temperature dyno.
SCXI-1001 Chassis
4 - SCXI-1120 -> SCXI 1320 units
8 - SCXI-1102 -> SCXI 1303 units
feeding into a PCI-MIO-16E-4 (PCI-6040E) DAQ system.
Also available are a SCXI-1000DC chassis, TC and BNC 2095 terminal blocks, and SXCI-1104 multiplexers.
The sensors we are looking to use have a 4-wire connection consisting of V(excitation),Common Ground, V(output), and V(offset). I would like to know if there is a way we can use the current equipment we have available to provide the 5v excitation source needed, as well as collect the V(output). Any help regarding the appropriate setup or wiring would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
-Jason McBride

Hi BigChief,
If you're providing an external excitation voltage to your sensors, you should be able to use either the SCXI-1102 or SCXI-1120 module, with their respective terminal block, to perform voltage measurement (provided the signal is within the module's input range). You can wire V(output) and Common ground as input to one of the channels on the terminal block. If the V(offset) is used for zeroing the measurement, you can wire that into a second channel, take the measurement, and subtract that value programmatically. If you're setting up a virtual or global channel, select the measurement type as "voltage" instead of "temperature".
I hope this helps.
Thanks,
Lesley Y.

  • How do I create a new calendar for the current year, using last years calendar's birthday's/photos and comments from the lower pages?

Each year for the past 5 years I make a family calendar and send copies to all he family members around the globe.  I hate that I have to recreate all the birthdays and special occasions from scratch, and re-drag all the photos onto these dates, in the lower half of the page of each month on the new calendar.  How can I create a new calendar for the current year and port all of these photos/comments into the new calendar from last years calendar, to save having to redo all this work!!  I am not talking about the upper half page of the photos only...I am referring to the calendar page of each month.
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open iWeb so you see your original site in the left hand pane. Use the File->New Site menu option to create a new site. Give it the name you want.
Now select a page in your original site and type Command+D. That will duplicate the page. Drag the duplicate page down to the new site and rename it as needed. Do that for the other pages you need in the original site.

Hello stacksofamber and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
You should be able to find a Mac OSX driver for that printer. Did you check with the manufacturer/'s website?

  • New Use for iPod

At the office today, I thought of a great new use for image capable iPods. Use the cover flow concept to view all my business cards. Hear that Apple?

There would have to be a way for everyone who buys an iPod to scan business cards, for that to be a practical and separate "feature." If you happen to have a way to scan business cards, just add the images to iPhoto or put them all into a folder, and set the iPod to sync with iPhoto or to that folder. I can even do that with my old 4th gen iPod (although the printing may to too small to read on that model).

    Hi
In BO 4.0 SP 9 when a administrator tries to schedule a report via CMC there is no error
But when a user schedules a report and the destination is FTP location -> Use default settings he gets following error
Destination disabled. []: [CrystalEnterprise.Ftp]. Please note the name of the job server used for your request and contact your system administrator to make sure the specified destination is enabled. (FWB 00031)
There is only one Job Server and the destinations are enabled in it
There is no Job server for Crystal Reports Job Server
Do i need to create it and how.

Please check if you have proper rights to schedule to FTP. You can create a new job server, whenever you schedule it, there are multiple job servers, it will handle based on the load. But it is not mandatory, depends on the load.

  • New use for Zinc 4?

If Adobe let's Director wither on the vine, could we convert our .dir movies to Shockwave and create crossplatform projectors with Zinc 4?  I have not used Zinc, so I don't know exactly what its capabilities are.  So, my question is, could Zinc be a viable tool for "rescuing" our existing Director movies if necessary?  Or perhaps it might even be used for creating cross-platform projectors now, if needed?
Maybe someone with some Zinc experience could enlighten me.  I have 30 titles that I market, and I'm a bit nervous about the way Adobe is treating Director like an unwanted stepchild.
    Thanks.
    Dewey

The answer to your question is Probably Not.
Zinc is just a Flash wrapper.  So, if your Director programs are primarily swfs and you use Director for a few system hooks, then you could use Zinc instead.  If you do not use swfs much, or if you use Director for anything more complicted than file IO (Buddy API stuff) then it would probably not suit your purpose.
In fact, I think that even in its current condition, Director is a better Flash wrapper than Zinc.  I have used both, and there are very few reasons to use Zinc over Director - even less if you know Director already and don't want to learn a new program.

  • New uses for an "extra" G3 Powerbook

This may seem like a dumb question, but I have an "extra" G3 bronze keyboard Powerbook with OSX (Panther) running on it and I have no idea what to do with it. I upgraded last year to an iBook which I love, but I just can't seem to part with my first computer. What could I use it for now? I don't want to keep my music on there because it does not have a built in CD-burner like my iBook does. I just wanted to see what other MAC geeks would do if they had an "extra" laptop? Thanks!

    d-i,
    The website is: http://www.evological.com/evocam.html
I believe a license is $25 and it works on OS 9 or OS X.
You can do many things with the software and a webcam:
    1. Set up a webcam server -- I open a port on my network (I believe it defaults to 8080) and can view the webcam from anywhere via your IP address. There are many uses for this:
I live in Illinois & was in Hawaii last week on vacation. I saw a couple of unknown cars in our driveway and called a neighbor -- they had some guests over and were using the driveway to temporarily park a couple cars. This past winter, I called my son at home and asked him to shovel the driveway -- I had to remind him an hour later when I checked and saw it was not done. We also used it when we had a new puppy to check up on her from work during the day when we were all gone.
    2. Motion Sensor: I already explained how I used it to e:mail me a photo when the Fed Ex man delivered a package. This is easy to do. You have a live video window and you use a "sensor" tool to draw any size rectangle on the video window -- you could have the sensor be the entire window or a smaller area (sidewalk, doorway, etc.). You can have multiple sensors in different places. You can also adjust the sensitivity level of how much motion it takes to trigger. You can add text to the video window (Front Window Cam) and add a digital clock so there is a time/date stamp on any photo / video saved.
    3. Events: Once you have it set-up, you can have it do different things if it senses motion: take a photo and e:mail it or save it to hard drive; start recording live video and save it to hard drive; play a sound file when it senses motion (fun if you have your computer hooked up to speakers/stereo). The nice thing with having the ability to e:mail a photo is you could catch someone breaking in -- even if they stole your computer/webcam, a photo of the thief will be in your e:mail in-box.
We also had some trouble with a neighborhood teenager -- I pointed the camera across the street and set a motion sensor to record whenever there was movement on his driveway. Not sure of the legality of this, but we were concerned about damage to our property.
I currently run Evocam with a Quickcam Pro 4000 and my PB G3 under OS X. It runs slow with the webcam under OS 9, but I have used an old VHS-C camcorder with an iRez Capsure PCMCIA card and this worked great. I like using the webcam better as it is much smaller (sits on window) and doesn't need a separate power supply. I have also used Evocam on my Powerbook G4 with my iSight webcam.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • I purchased a time capsule last year and we have been using for our backup of our apple devices (iMac, laptop, iPad and now 5 iPhones).  we have not used it as our router for wifi but would like to now switch to it. need directions for switching please.

i am using time capsule for backup only but would like to switch to it for our wifi.  directions on apple discuss original set up of time capsule for wi fi but not switching from existing wi fi router.  were can i get help with this?

Well, it depends on what ISP you use.
Reply back with your ISP and connection type (cable, ADSL). Also, do you use an ISP router or do you have a modem connected to a router that you provide?

  • New use for old imac

I'm considering an upgrade for my iMac G5 (1.6 GHz PPC) to a newer Core 2 Duo, and am wondering if there's some use for the old iMac besides door stop? Specifically, is there a way that I can use the old machine for backup? It has a newer hard drive. Thoughts appreciated.

You can use it as a monitor for your new mac using an app called ScreenRecycler, or take it apart, throw in a big HD and like the other poster said, use it as a type of home server, or you can sell it, or you can donate it to a company that will refurbish it and send it off to less-fortunate families, or you can make a big shrapnel bomb, or you can.... well you get the idea. I would suggest using it for the monitor though

  • New use for an old G5 iMac?

Does anyone have any suggestions on a use for an old G5 iMac?
We've since upgraded to a new Intel iMacs and MacBook, as well as iPads, etc.  but I'm trying to figure out how to re-purpose this still working if less useful machine?

PowerPC will not live forever, but it still will live for a long time.
Lots of people use PowerPC's for office work.

  • I acquired a new board for our SCXI chassis. T

he new board is SCXI-1531. I found a library VI which allows me to look at one channel at a time. Is there an example VI available on the SCXI-1531 to acquire up to 8 channels input simultaneously? I would eventually like to vary the number of channels.

Is there an example VI available on the SCXI-1531 to acquire up to 8 channels input simultaneously? I would eventually like to vary the number of channels. The example titled SCXI-1531 Frequency.vi is a good example that allows measurement and processing of a variable number of channels. To read more than one channel, modify the last section of the SCXI string to "0:2" to read channels 0 through 2 for example. Or use 1, 4 to read channels one and four.
If you are new to SCXI strings, check out this KB entry: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/6fc83b7ac9aca5788625615b00823d65?OpenDocument
Also, to make the vi more flexible for different numbers of channels, use For Loops with auto indexing enabled. Then you can process each channel's data separately without needing to know the exact number of channels beforehand. This is also demonstrated in the attached example.

  • Found a new use for my iPad

No not as a paper weight I can now watch normal free to air TV on my iPad over my wifi anywhere in range. I bought an Avermedia HD Homefree Duet. You plug your TV antenna into it and connect it to your router via ethernet. The Homefree app is available at the app store. The Duet allows 2 users to connect separately and also comes with software for PC's but not Mac computers. That suited me as I was looking for another use for my beloved iPad. Price $115 Australian.

    Ralph Landry1 wrote:
Interesting, haven't heard of that in the US but will start looking around...when you say TV antenna, does that include use of cable network feed? Or maybe feed from the cable box to the TV?
There are only 2 devices I know of that do what I want and that is have the ability to tune in HD TV on the iPad. The other unit I know of is the NetStream. May be worth a look re cable. I love the fact I have another use for my iPad. It is amazing for me in a semi rural area (that requires a fairly substantial rooftop antenna) that would normally require me running TV cables to get TV on computer. This though is not accessible on iPad. For metro areas the Duet does come with a 25db indoor antenna. The iPad makes a great size personal TV. I just hope this helps someone with a similar need

  • Could APEX be used for development of a General Ledger system?

    Hi All,
I am interested in developing a "light" web-based erp system for small sized companies for a vertical market. This system should be composed of General Ledger, Inventory & Payables functional areas. I just want to know if APEX could be used for developing applications of this kind. Do you believe that APEX is a mature platform in order ro be useful for development of complex applications? I'm very impressed by this platform but I do not have the necessary experience in order to decide if I could use APEX for more complex and demanding apps.
    Thank you very much,
    George Papageorgiou

Technically speaking Apex can handle anything other frameworks..etc can do. I think your target market will determine whether Apex is the correct choice or not.
Larger companies will want to go with an established ERP system like Oracle Financials, SAP, Costpoint..etc. So if you are aiming at a mid to small sized company, they may have a much smaller budget for such a system. If you are planning to make it a SAAS and host the solution yourself, I think Apex would be a good fit. If you are planning on selling the software for a local installation at the customer site, it may not be the best fit due to its coupling with the Oracle database. Personally I wouldn't want to put my entire financial set of data on someone else's server, but thats just me.
In my own opinion, a good ERP or 3rd party COTS product does not dictate to you which database you need to use, but instead supports multiple. Apex lives inside the Oracle database, so your customers have to run Oracle. For larger shops, it is not an issue, but for smaller shops, they may want to use mysql or something similar. Now people here will say "But Oracle XE is free!". This is true, but it is also almost 6 years old, completely unsupported by Oracle, and not patched. So I wouldn't stake my entire success on it.
So again it really will depend who you are going after, whether you will host the solution, and whether you think the cost/skill level of Oracle will be a barrier to your customers.
