New v11.5 makes Firefox freeze: Is there a remedy?

Blithely downloaded v11.5 today.  Opened my regular bridge application in Firefox, bbo (bridgebase.com) and the Flash player froze Firefox (v 16.0.2).  I'm on Vista Premiium.
Ctrl+Alt+Del said Flash Player was using 90-100% of my cpu.
I uninstalled v11.5, found v10.3 at the adobe site, reinstalled that, and everything's working.
Surprised v11.5 wasn't tested to avoid such a problem.  Anyone know a remedy?

(1) I've already, some time ago after previous Flash problems, taken
step 1 in the trouble-shooting, i.e. disabled Real Player Record plugin
(2) I've removed v11.5 to install v10.3.   This morning (uk time) I
can't seem to get back to download v11.5.  Every route I take to
download takes me to v10.3.  And this version makes my bridge work
So for the moment I'm happy, though I'd be glad to try more
troubleshooting if you can tell me how to get to download v11.5.

    @the-edmeister
Thanks for the advice. In my case, it is sufficient to '''uncheck''' " Saved passwords".
('''''Preferences -> Privacy -> Clear History when Firefox closes -> Settings -> Saved Passwords''''').
    Great to have Sync. :)

  • Can't update from version 3.6 to any newer versions? Firefox freezes or closes with any version past 3.6!

Firefox freezes or closes with any version past 3.6! Have tried various suggestions from online support. I am using Windows XP Professional with all updates, Norton Security Suite, V5.1.0.2 updated. I am using Comcast. The following add-ons are installed in Firefox:DowloadHelper4.9.7, ExtendedCopyMenu(fixed version)1.6.1c and NoScript.
I tried installing V8.1 and it would either freeze or close. I have tried opening it in safe mode but Firefox would not open.
I have gone into the registry, removed all Mozilla and Firefox entries and reinstalled 8.1. Didn't make any difference. I really, really don't want to go back and start using IE.
Is this an issue for anyone else or just my computer which is about a year old? Sure would appreciate any help.
    Regards,
    Paleo

I can't... 10.6.1 says "Mac OS X update can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements of this update"  and any subsequent update attempt says it "requires version [before this one] or later"

I had a problem recently with this (for my main user account only) and fixed it (I can't remember how!).
But I should mention that I tried installing the 10.6.1 update from my other user accounts on this Mac
              with the same result.
              > or the PRAM battery needs replacing
How do I check that? Is that the little watch-type battery that G3 Macs used to have?
I should also add that I tried one of the malware scan sites mentioned on this forum and it returned 'no virus found'.

  • Firefox freezes when there are pop up boxes or any box you have to click on to type in information e.g Facebook comments, Firefox About window

I have both the latest Firefox 3.6.12 and Adobe Flash. Firefox will freeze up for no apparent reason. It's most commonly happened when there's a box that needs text information adding into it (like the comments box on Facebook pages) or when a smaller window opens up like the save file/open with box, or even the About Firefox window. When this happens, I cannot enter text into the boxes or close the boxes or Save/Open file. The main browser window stays "greyed out" at the top, like it's inactive and I cannot type into the URL bar. Nor can I close the window, I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL to close the program and try again. THe only thing that's changed recently was the updates for both Firefox and Adobe Flash to the latest versions.

I do not have that box checked... so now what?
    Thanks

  • What is Morning Coffee? It loaded with my new version of Firefox and I there's no explanation of what it is.

There's no explanation of "Morning Coffee." What is it and what does it do?
It asked me whether I want it and I chose it but without knowing what I was getting into.

morning coffee is a third party-addon, it doesn't ship with firefox. maybe you have installed it somewhen in the past and have forgotten about it. if you have no use for it you can uninstall it from firefox > addons.

  • A website that i use quite frequently will not work with the newer versions of firefox. Is there a compatability mode of some way to get the newer version to work?

All the website says is this browser is not supported. Only version 3.5 is. I can list the url because it is a work url

You can install the portable Firefox 3.6.x version to access websites that do not work with Firefox 5+.

  • Firefox freezes when it recieves a "-new-tab" command

    Hello,
I am using a c# program to send Firefox some commands.Everything works great, but sometimes when I send a -new-tab command like:
    "firefox.exe -new-tab http://www.google.com"
Firefox freezes for few seconds before opening the new tab.I tried removing all the parameters from the command and just send "http://www.google.com" to the system while Firefox is set as the default browser, and the same problem arises again.
I also tried doing the same while Firefox is in safe-mode and still the problem appears sometimes.
How can I troubleshoot this and know what makes firefox freeze for those few seconds?.
    Thanks in advance

    Hello MahmoudJ,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. This is a really difficult issue and I'm not sure that this is the appropriate place to get assistance with it. Do you have the same results when you open Firefox through a command prompt rather than in your program?
You might have a better chance at getting an answer by posting on Stackoverflow under the Firefox tag. I've linked to their forum below.

  • When I use Firefox and Hotmail at startup, Firefox freezes for about 1 minute, and then I can continue. First I though it was my computer but 2 other girls in my class have the same problem with Hotmail and Firefox. What can I do to change this?

When I start Firefox, about 15 seconds after I start it, my Firefox freezes for about 1 minute. I found out that it is my Hotmail that makes Firefox freeze.
First I thought it was my computer, but I have 2 other girls in my class that use Hotmail and Firefox and their computer also freezes for 1 full minute.
This is very annoying, what can I do to change this?

p.s. I am from the Netherlands, maybe that has something to do with it?

    Try deleting cookies and cache:
    1. Tools| Clear recent history
    2. Time range to clear: Everything
    3. If it isn't already selected, select '''Cookies''' and '''Cache'''
    4. '''Clear now'''
    '''Check cookie exceptions'''
    1. Tools | Options | Privacy Panel
    2. Set '''Firefox will: Use custom settings for history.''' '''Insure Accept cookies for sites and accept third-party cookies''' is selected
    3. Click '''Exceptions'''. If the misbehaving site is in that list, select it and click '''Remove site'''
    '''Safe Mode'''
Add-ons can cause problems with not being able to log into certain websites. To see if this is the case with your issue, run [[Safe mode]]. When you get to the safe mode window, select Continue in Safe Mode. If this resolves your problem, see [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

  • In Firefox 5 links with target="_blank" don't open in new window or tab. Is there a way to make them do that?

I've search some info about this and it seems like there's a lot of people that are annoyed by links opening in new window/tab and that the 'target="_blank"' is not valid in strict XHTML. I'm guessing this could be reasons why Firefox 5 ignores the 'target="_blank"'. But in some cases you really want to open a new widow, in my case I'm using a flash application and want to open links in new windows from there and then the ctrl-click doesn't work. When opening the link in the same page and then go back the application is reloaded and it's state is lost. Probably should try to find out if there's some other way to open links from a flash application, but I'm wondering if there's a way to make Firefox 5 open 'target="_blank"' links in new tabs.

I don't know how to delete my question, anyway I'm not having this problem anymore. In our organisation the IT department deploy Firefox updates with certain settings and limitations, in the tap-options the checkbox for opening new windows in new tabs where checked but disabled. They made some changes to make this checkbox enabled and now it works as expected if it's check new windows open i new tabs and if it's not in new windows. They never opens in the same tab as they did before.

  • Flash content makes Firefox to freeze/crash

    Hi Team,
I have posted my problem a few days ago as a comment (an answer) to the "flash plugin" post from "cj_gadget". But I have got no answer, probably because the "flash plugin" post was labelled as "solved".
So I now post my problem as a new question, and since I have a Macintosh configuration while "cj_gadget" (and many others) was using a Windows PC, the solution may be different!
After a long period without using it, my iMac (running with Mac OS X 10.6.8) has been recently updated with the most recent versions of Firefox (25.0) and Flash Player & Plugin (11.9.900.117). The result is that Firefox crashes (freezes) on every page with Flash content. For other reasons, I have to stay with Mac OS 10.6.8 without upgrading to more recent OS versions. I have looked through Firefox and Adobe Flash Player help pages, as well as through many posts on this forum without finding an effective solution.
Following some of these posts, I have unchecked (in Firefox > Preferences > Advanced) the use of hardware graphic accelerator. Many posts advise to do the same for Flash Player with a right click on the video frame, but this is NOT possible since Firefox freezes immediately as all Flash video start automatically when the page is loaded.
I have also checked that a HTML5 video displays correctly as for : "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl3U6aSd2w&html5=True" while "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTl3U6aSd2w" stucks Firefox. This Firefox freezing problem is general for all pages with Flash content (that is for a large fraction of the Web!) and NOT limited to Youtube which was just used here as an example.
Some more information : RealPlayer was not present on this computer when the problem appeared. If I disable the Flash pluging in Firefox, it does nor freeze, but of course does not display the video. Safari (version 5.1.10 - ok for Apple software update) works fine with Flash content.
I have sent many hours on this problem without progress and would strongly appreciate any help or even better a solution !

Hi, jpdemers , and thanks for your advices.
I have been travelling for some time and was not in position to make any new test for about two weeks (the affected machine is an iMac at home).
Today I have uninstalled Firefox using AppCleaner, as well as Flash Player using Adobe uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg ; and I have then installed both of them from scratch.
Unfortunately the problem is still there :-(
I just notice that I forgot to reboot the iMac (twice) as you said. I believe it may not be so important, but I will repeat the cycle with the reboots included (early next year now !).
I will keep you updated on the issue, and I hope I will not have to reinstall the system. I have the install discs, but this may be an heavy burden...
In the meanwhile, I wish you an happy new year !

  • Why does my Firefox freeze when I open my news feed on Facebook?

For a few days now, everytime I go to my news feed on Facebook, Firefox freezes and I have to force it to stop. This means everytime I click on the Facebook logo or go to www.facebook.com.
I have already reinitialised Firefox, but that doesn't help the problem.
    Why is this happening?

Ok... I found a temporarily fix... go to facebook.com, then click the (X) button in the bar to make the page stop loading. it should only be half loaded... if firefox locks up, you waited too long. Click on your name in the corner. Then when that loads, click home, next to your name!!!!! There is your news feed! Hope this works... It worked for me. Enjoy!!!
