New variable dimension for BW universe cause measure #unavailable

i try to create a new variable, and select dimension type and map to existing BW dimension. Then i drag new variable into table and this cause measure display #unvailable.
how to resolve this issue?

I did you try to create a new report in the document and to create a new table like the one having the error?
I experienced a couple of time the same issue and for me it worked.

This solution involves creating a variable which prompts the user to enter the required unit of measure.
However I have a situation where I would like to create variable which is not input-ready and has a fixed value assigned to it without prompting the user. Moreover, I cannot modify the already existing input-ready variable as it is used in other Queries.
Does this involves creating a new user exit or modifying the existing user exit. If yes then can you please tell me how this can be done.

You can follow any one the below procedure for solve your issue.
1. You can change the variable by removing the check box "Ready to input". But you mentioned that you used that variable in other queries also. So, I am not suggesting this.
2. You create a new variable same as the existing variable but with out selecting "Ready to Input" check box. Now when the user run the query, that variable will not be seen to the user. Now, we will see the customer exit, you assign new variable value to existing variable, before that you have to write a condition for checking the query name. If you are running the query which have the new variable then assign the variable value to old variable. This will solve your question.

Creating new Variables/objects in OLAP Universe

We are currently using BOXI 3.1 Sp2. We have defined BEX queries on which Universes have been generated (using MDX).
We are then creating WEBI reports using these Unvierses. We are not able to add variables/objects at universe level as the XML tags do not parse. We are on FP 1.4. Is there any solution to this, or is it a Bug?

I did go thru the document you provided and did accordingly.
But still the syntax does not parse. In some cases, it does parse, but does not do the required filter.
Not sure what the issue is.
We would also like to create new objects/variables using If then else formula and other Characteristics.
For example, If company=XYZ then Measure-1000 else Measure.
But we get syntax error. It appears that only measures can be used in an If-then-else logic, which is absurd.
We have contacted SAP support on this, but they have not come back with a proper reply yet.

There is no Professional version of the free Adobe Reader. Maybe you are talking about Adobe Acrobat? If so, maybe the Acrobat forum would be more appropriate. In any case, these forums are not a way of addressing Adobe; just fellow users around here.

How is it possible to change universe's variable for a map by using Hyperlink builded in a report. I tried to use the $MEASURE_NAME$ but I did not have any results: remains the measure used for building Map Object.
I tried also to pass $MEASURE_ID$=225 and MEASURE_ID="225" how I see in Map's XML. Creating A new dimension for a characteristic versus adding in the same dim

Hi Guys,
I have a scenario where I have 0Material in a line item dimension in the cube.
Have to add 0Mat_plant which is compounded to 0plant as we need MRP controller
as one of the Nav attributes. 0Plant is also available in the cube.
There are two options of doing this:
1) Either add it to the 0Material dimension removing the line item property.
2) Or create a new dimension for 0MAt_plant and make it as line item dimension
considering the large volume of material information.
Which is a better option and why.
Please advise.

Hi Kate,
I'd recommend to have a new dimension as line itemdimension for 0MAT_PLANT, just for performance purposes (almost logarithmic access of data instead of full table scan)
The Plant Segments in R/3 usually have a lot more records than the general material master has (max: number of plants * number of materials).
Adding the object to 0material means that you have to unassign the line item flag. Usually this leads to increasing load- and queryruntimes.

How to set up new enviroment variables permanently for all users?

I downloadad Apache Tomcat, and need to set enviromental variables for all users.
I tryed setenv commad, but it is not found.
for example # JAVA_HOME="/opt/jre1.6.0" Solaris remembers this variable only for one session and I need for all users permanently.

There are more than one ways of doing this.
The best option is to create a freely definable attribute (Spro --- APO >> Master data >> Freely definable attributes) at material location level and now you will automatically be able to see the attribute when your create a selection id. But you have to make sure you add logic in your material cIF user exit or create a custom program in APO to populate the desired values for the freely definable attribute for all materials in the selection

Create New Variable for COPA Drilldown Reports in KE3E

How can we create a formula variable for COPA Drill down reports in KE3E? In standard global variables formula variable is not avaiable, I need to create a formula variables like ...from period, to period, last fiscal year and next fiscal year..
While creating report in KE31/KE35 trying create local variables, but it doesn't.
Can any body advise how can we create a new variables for "from period, to period, last fiscal year and next fiscal year.."

Universe Designer: Error getting dimensions for cube

-Using Business Objects Edge 3.1 SP2
-SAP BW 7.0 (patch level 21)
This is quite odd behavior that seemed at first an authorization issue, but now I am uncertain.
-Attempting to create a Universe based on a Infocube.
-Universe connection is created with no problem using user 'ABC'
-Using Universe Designer on the BOBJ server, no issues creating the Universe
-Using Universe Designer on a users desktop, the Universe fails to create with error message:
A runtime exception has occurred. (Error getting dimensions for cube $0SD_C03 (catalog $INFOCUBE): Unknown error)
-Change the connection to use user 'DEF', the Universe creates just fine on the desktop
-Behavior is not exclusive to one BW object, happens no matter what 'ABC' tries to access from this desktop
So, at first I am thinking authorizations, but then the universe create would fail on the server as well. If it is environmental, what could possibly affect this behavior.
Any ideas before I submit to SAP Support?

Oddly enough it was an authorization issue.
When authenticating against the SAP source system from Universe Designer on either the workstation or server, both traces show a missing authorization for RFC_NAME = RASB
This setting is not found in referenced SAPu2019s guides or whitepapers under suggested authorizations for Universe create. What remains unexplained is why using the same credentials from 2 different computers had a different response.

MDX for OLAP Universe.

I have a scenario wherein I have to create a custom dimension restricting some values to be displayed. The dimension I am trying to restrict here is Quarter - [ZCALQRT].[LEVEL01], which has values like Q3 2011, Q4 2011, Q1 2012,Q2 2012 on a rolling quarter basis. My requirement is to restrict the last quarter to be displayed. I have tried the following menthods to achieve this:
1) Create a new dimension object with the following syntax:

So, here I tried to restrict the dimension in the where clause using the EXCEPT(,) function. But on using this new custom dimension in Web I the error message I receive is "Some objects are not available in the Universe".
2) Create a restriction for the object in the where clause:
<EXPRESSION> (EXCEPT([ZCALQRT].[LEVEL01].[[2ZCALQRT]].[Value],[ZCALQRT].[LEVEL01].[[2ZCALQRT]].[Value].CurrentMember.LastSibling))</EXPRESSION>
This gives and error message with MDX syntax being invalid.
Can anyone please suggest a work around for restricting the dimension in the SELECT/ WHERE clause or a PRE-DEFINED FILTER.

Thank you for the information. I will try doing that in the SAP BEx query end. However, I found some examples with the MDX which can filter the members based on their levels. One specific example of referring to a member is as follows:
If I need to exclude the last value in a rolling value set, I tried to use the EXCEPT(,) function and referring the member in a predefined filter:

Can you please suggest if anything is wrong with this MDX statement?

New custom dimension objects with MDX

on my OLAP universe is possible to create a new custom dimension objects with MDX sintax?
For example I need a dimesnion with this descriptions: "ACTIVE"; "INACTIVE", "NULL"
I need thi description in universe because would like to use this inreport prompt
then in report I use a variable: if "ACTIVE" then [import1] else if "INACTIVE" then [import2] else [import3]

MSAS: Maybe, but I don't know how.

Section for multiple universe

Hi Guys,
I have 2 data sources in my Webi report that have the same columns inserted in the form of a Section.
The column names are - Employee Name & No. of Projects.
No. of Projects = Count (Project Name). Project Name is a merged dimension. Project ID is merged as well.
The Section is defined based on the "Project Type" object which is a merged dimension. Project Type has different values for both Universe.
Now, for data source 2, the Employee Name object has Employee IDs. To get the Employee Names for that object, I have added another data source which has objects Worker ID & Worker Name.
Now, I have merged Worker ID with Employee Name object from data source 2. Then, I created a detail object called Employee Name with the following formula -> Employee Name = Worker Name. This way, I get names instead of IDs for Employee Name.
The problem is - How do I get the Section for "Project Type" with columns Employee Name & No. of Projects correct in my Report. Could anyone please help?

Sorry, I did not understand the part where you suggest to use Left(table.column) on the second universe and use that as Project Type and have table.column as a detail of it, as the project type description. Could you please elaborate on that part?
Also, currently the "Employee Name" object from Universe 2 has "Employee IDs" values in it. In order to get the actual names, I am getting "Worker ID" & "Worker Name" objects from Universe 3. Then, in Webi I have merged "Employee ID" with "Worker ID" and created a detail variable with formula - Emp Name = Worker Name, to get the actual names. However, doing this is creating problems in the section as "Employee Name" from Universe 1 is also merged with "Employee Name" from Universe 2 & "Worker ID" from Universe 3.
Is there a way, I can perform this task in Universe 2 itself?

If your requirement is not to update any DB Table then don't use an EO. I would suggest the following for your requirement of validating the username and password.
- Create a VO that has the following query. Do not select any EO during the VO creation.
          SELECT 'x'
          FROM <CUSTOM TABLE>
          WHERE <USERNAME COL> = :1
              AND <PASSWORD COL> = :2
        - Have the initQuery(..) Method in your VOImpl, that takes the username and password. Binds them to the VO and executes the query.
- Have a method in your AM to take the username and password as parameters. Make a call to the above VO::initQuery(..)
- In your controller's processFormRequest(..) call this AM Method upon the submit button action.
This should work smoothly.
The following is just for triaging the error that you have. The above steps, should help you achieve your requirement by itself, the below steps would not be required.
Coming back to your issue. Any custom table should have the standard WHO Columns.
- Modify the custom table to have these who columns.
- In the EO Wizard, synchronize the EO to reflect the DB Structure.
- Make sure the EO Attributes are marked updatable.
Cause of your issue: Through you are not creating EO rows programatically, whenever a VO is based on an EO, upon execution of the VO query, EO's are automatically created, based on the number of rows returned by the VO Query. So internally its failing to created the EO Rows. On of the common reason would be that it creates the EO row, but cannot set the attributes from the VO, because the EO Attribute is readonly.
