I also have the latest version 3.0.4 (398) of Preview Copyright 2002-2004 Apple Computer Inc., and also feel the Apple is not providing consistantly better software but rather they consistantly issue new software which is NOT AS GOOD as old software.....To do something simple with the above "Preview" software such as a "page forward" command (done using the mouse clicking on "Next" or keys [Apple + "end"] I am given the next page but AT THE SAME POSITION on the page as the last one ie at the bottom of the page!
This problem would not occurr were I to use a 26 inch laptop from Apple, but they have not yet arrived with this item and so I feel for those of us who cannot always use a HUGE screen and thus can only view a part of the page with reasonably sized characters, Apple should do the decent service of letting us scroll paragraph after paragraph and not only leave us the single "next" (to turn to a new page), then scroll up to the top of the page and then scroll to the bottom, turn a page and have to scroll to the top first before we can continue to read.
A simple facility but to date lacking even TWO YEARS after the software has been released. I hope I am just ignorant but fear I am not

HT3529 New 7.0 version update changes the way text messages are presented. In the new version, I cannot figure out how to delete individual texts. I can delete entire strings of messages, but I want to delete old texts, but keep the recent texts

The new version of the software for my iPhone 4 changed the way text messages are managed.
I can no longer delete individual texts from a text "conversation." I also have not figured out how to forward texts, which I was able to do in the prior version.
Anyone know a way to edit out individual messages without losing the entire string?

When you have the conversation open, if you tap & hold on a message bubble, you should get a new menu pop-up. It should have 2 options "Copy" and "More..." If you select the "More..." option it will then let you select one or more message bubbles and delete the selected ones by hitting the trach can icon in the lower left corner. As for forwarding, you probably just select the "Copy" option, then paste the contents into a new message...

When is the new version of java coming out?

Hi! When is everyone like, starting to use the new version of java? I want to know because my teacher said that we have to learn it! I was like, whatever! Java is totally hard enough with loads of new stuff! Can any of you ppl tell me the date?

I can't wait for 2.0, it will actually do the
programming by itself.3.0 will not only do the then-current programming tasks by itself, it will go backward in time and do all previous years' homework assignments, obfuscate the .class files, create .exes out of them, and cause all questions about them (even though those questions are no longer needed, nor even exist any more) to be clear and specific. Then it will undelete the watercooler.

Installing new version of itunes wipes out playlists and indivdual songs?

Can't access itunes store now, probably because I refused to install the recent upgrades. Current one is 9.0.2.25 and when I installed it, I had to completely recreate everything because this upgrade wiped out all my playlists, a lot of random downloaded songs that were in the Music Library and all the the songs I had purchased from itunes that I hadn't dragged onto my computer. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? In order to keep my playlists and all music, do I have to do a full backup prior to the upgrade and then restore it all after the upgrade? Thanks.

Very occasionally iTunes fails to rebuild the library properly following an upgrade. All you need to do is restore that backup you take regularly... Ah, OK.
In the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename *iTunes Library.itl* as *iTunes Library (Empty).itl* and then rename the restored file as *iTunes Library.itl*. Start iTunes. The library should be updated to the new format and hopefully it won't go wrong this time.
When you've fixed things...
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

New version of iTunes wiped out my access

Tried to update to 10.51, and it will not install. Even worse, ot removed iTunes. I cannot resintall either. Msg: Can not install due to error,

Try this approach:
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If that doesn't work go into the Control Panel for progams and try to repair the iTunes installation, or remove it and then reinstall.

New version of CS3 or old version?

I need to order CS3 for Mac & see they say old version on Amazon. What is the new version? Is it out? Is it backwards compatible with the old CS3?
I don't want to order the new version and not have it work with my customer supplied files that I need to return to them.
I looked through the post's and could not find anything on this.

There is no "new version of CS3" unless you mean CS3.3 which is CS3 with Acrobat 9 Pro instead of Acrobat 8 Pro and with the addition of Fireworks in some configurations. CS3.3 was announced but is not shipping yet, but will very soon.

Safari Problems Since New Version

So I'm someone who actually likes using Safari and I used to experience very few problems with it. Until recently. This started happening as soon as Apple released the new version (can't remember the version number), the one with the improved reader in the side bar (a feature that I love).
For reference: I always update my stuff, so I have the latest versions of everything that the OS will allow on both comptuers that are experiencing the problem.
One machine is my laptop, running the latest Lion (10.7.2) and the other is an iMac at work, funning the latest version of Snow Leopard. I also often run MacKeeper to clean the system cache's etc.
1. Both computers running Safari exhibit a strage problem in which, at randome times, all the browers reset and reload. I'm trying to find out what causes this, but because it is so random, it's hard to identify the cause.
2. My laptop, a 2008 MacBook (2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2BG RAM), often shows a spinning rainbow ball when browsing in Safari. This is happnening more frequently with the more recent update and the time it spins is longer.
3. Flash-based site seems to have more trouble with Safari. It's not that they don't work, they just are a but slower than they used to be. This is more noticeable on my laptop, which makes me wonder if it's processor or memory issue. Though I have a hard time seeing why, as the problem was not there just a few months ago.
In contrast Firefox does not exhibit these problems, though I admit I do not like using it as much, and it has its own problems.
There may not be an answer to this. My hope is that Apple is monitoring these forums and taking note these bugs. I do not seem to be the only one having them. But, of course, if anyone has any advice, it is appreciated.
Oh, before you answer, "Buy more RAM," know that I am considering doing that, but my experience with past laptops and computers in my 15 years of using Macs is that RAM upgrades deliver almost unoticeable improvements and that answer is more often buggy software.

Is there any harm in installing an older version of Acrobat along with the new version?

I'm running Acrobat v11.0.04 on my iMac. For my work, I have to create pdfs and upload them to a special server that then generates dynamic versions of them (blah blah blah... I don't really understand that part of it...). Anyway, it can't use PDFs created by this version of Acrobat... or the last few versions, for that matter. So... is there any harm in installing version 8 (which does work) on my iMac? I don't want to get rid of version 11... I want to have both.

I am not sure anyone knows what the server needs. We just know what doesn't work. What DOES work are the pdfs I compile (I have to combine two pdfs into one) are the ones created from version 8. I will ask if I can get specifications. It's confusing because I create the pdfs and send them to someone else. He uploads them to this server which is run by another company. So there are a lot of different levels involved. All I know is that every time a new version of Acrobat comes out, I create a test pdf and it doesn't work. I always have to go back to version 8. I recently bought a new computer and didn't want to install version 8... but unless we can figure out a way to generate the "right" pdfs, it looks like I might have to. Anyway, I'll see what I can find out.

Issue synchro Notes since new version

Hi,
I have an iPhone 3G (os 3.1.2), itunes (9.0.2.25) and Outlook (2003 SP3) under windows XP Pro.
Synchro of Contacts & Calendar work fine.
Firts time I have synchronized NOTES it works.
But after installing a new version (itunes or/and iphone, I didin't remmember) NOTES synchro failed.
After investigation I find that NOTES are replicated to my iPhone only if they are on 'Handled Synchronisation' Outlook folder.
How to modify this & come back to replicate Notes from NOTES folder.

New version of Keynote: v. 4.0.2

Today a new version of Keynote came out, version 4.0.2. Software update didn't give much detail: "This update primarily addresses performance issues while playing or exporting presentations."
Anyone know what changed?
(Finder still says 4.0.1, but "About Keynote" says 4.0.2)

According to Apple it improves functionnality with leopard, and since there is a new leopard version coming out in a few days we might see the changes then. For now I have not noticed anything different.
