New version of iTunes telling me to connect device to J: drive

Hello. I recently upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes on my Windows Vista PC. When I went to sync my iPods (I have two), I got a message to "connect a device to my J: drive", but the iPod was already connected! It went ahead and synced, but I kept getting the same message, even though I clicked Cancel, Ignore, etc. So then I couldn't eject my iPod and it kept telling me not to disconnect it. But everytine I clicked the eject button I would get the J: drive message. I finally had to disconnect my iPod without ejecting it, even though I had the "Do not disconnect" message on both iPods and was afraid I would damage them.
This is really weird. Is this happening to anyone else? It seems I have had nothing but problems since I got Vista. It's enough to make me want to buy a Mac mini just to run iTunes on (I'm sure this is what Apple wants to hear). I have too much time and money invested in iTunes for it not to work properly.

Something very similar happened to me last week - I got the 'j' drive message so I clicked cancel, about a minute later itunes said it had synced my ipod but the ipod was saying 'do not disconnect' - I waited a few minutes but nothing changed so I re-synced (even tho nothing was going to alter) and it worked fine. Not an ideal solution but it did work

I have the same problem. Running Win 8 64Bit, updated to latest ITunes and now will not recognize phone or pad. Followed all advice from Apple (uninstall/restart/re-install, all in exact order) ... nothing. Spoke with Apple tech and walked through the whole process, but no resolution. Tech was trying to be helpful but has no way of addressing issue.

Where is the "device" button in the new version of itunes? Whenever we connect our ipod touch(es) -- 4th generation....a device button NEVER appears. We can't "click and drag" new music purchases to our "device" b/c our "device" never comes up.

Just updated my PC to latest version of itunes. now itunes doesn't see any of my apple devices (iphone, ipad, ipod). the PC sees them (in explorer/file manager) but not itunes. anyone else have this problem?

I am having a problem trying to get the new version of itunes to download correctly to my laptop. I have updated my ipad to the new ios 7, and windows is showing that it has been downloaded but when I connect my ipad, it is saying I have to download itune

I have a laptop that runs with windows vista, and I have been having issues trying to get it to download the new version of itunes that would be compatible to the new version of ios 7 that I have already updated on my ipad. I have downloaded this three times, it shows that the download is complete, but when I connect my ipad to my laptop it is still telling me that I have to download the new version again and it will not sync with my ipad until I do. What iTunes are you running now?
What OS X system are you running are your computer now? Or is this a Windows machine?
Let us know a little more info.

Can it harm my ipod touch in any way or the files on it if it was connected to the computer while updating to a new version of itunes?

Also, I tried asking support before I tried this forum and I think I asked it under the wrong category (troubleshooting and not using ipod with itunes) and they had me run an ios diagnostic test, if I'm not having trouble with my ipod and I ran it can that harm the ipod or affect it in any way?

I'm not having any problem that I can see, I was just curious as to if it can harm my ipod or any files on it if I have it connected to my computer while I'm updating to a new version of itunes. It ejected a few times and then again when I had to restart my computer. It seems to be working fine I was just wondering if it can affect affect the ipod at all if I have it connected while updating to a new version of itunes.
And also if running ios diagnostics from support can do anything if I wasn't having trouble. I wasn't able to talk to anyone because I'm out of warranty for tech support for that device.

As long as the apps and ibooks are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).
Check the settings for your utility. If iTunes is still listed, remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes. Consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure; you can find instructions for Norton on Symantec's web page for iTunes. You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.

IPod won't connect with new version of iTunes

After I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, my device wouldn't connect to my computer. After extensive troubleshooting, I have found that my iPod does not respond to the latest version of iTunes. When I un-install iTunes, my iPod connects. When I try re-installing, it will disconnect. I downloaded an older version of iTunes, and it stayed connected. However, when I went to open iTunes, a pop-up came up and said it couldn't open because my library was updated by a newer version. So, I'm at a loss of what to do. Someone please help! Thanks in advance!
