  • I Downloaded new version of ITunes - won't open now.

What a fiasco. Everything was working fine until I bit on the message to "update my IPod software". I finally succumbed to that then everything went to (*&(. After the IPOD update, my Itunes would not open my IPOD even though the device manager recognized it. So, I went to Apple support and downloaded the new Itunes. It won't open and my IPod is hosed - file folder with exclamation point. I even tried reloading the Itunes disk I got with the original purchase in 04/2005. Didn't work. I am on my third IPod since 04/2005 and it looks like I may need to send this one in also. But, I need to get Itunes up and running. I would restore my IPod if it was recognized. HELP.

top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
    - turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
    - installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    - setting up Norton to allow iTunes
    - scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
    - last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

v10.6.3 Snow Leopard is outdated. You need to update your Mac OS X to v10.6.8
Installing the combo will bring your software up to date >  Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.
iTunes should work but you may need to reinstall Flash > Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player

  • The new version of itunes will not open on my macbook. Help?

I have a Macbook that is a few years old. Recently updated the latest version of itunes and can't get it to open. Have searched forums and tried reinstalling quicktime but no luck. Help!

What happens when you try to open it? Does it seem to try to launch and then crash? Does it just not respond? Any error messages?

  • HT1199 Newer version of iTunes will not open.  My music is gone.  How can I get the older version back?

My "newer version" of itunes will not open.  How can I either get it to open or get the older version which worked fine?

Restore the backup before you installed.
If you didn't make a backup, at very minimum make sure your Music library isn't compromised by locating the folder you selected the music to be in (usually in Users -> yourname -> Music) and make sure there are several MB of data there by clicking once on the folder, and selecting Get Info from the File menu in the Finder.
If you can't find it, try to locate parts of track names with Find Any File.
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
then determine which parent file of the .mp3 or .mpa files you have contains all of the music files by getting info under each previous folder in the folder tree.
Once you determine which folder contains all your music, back it up using the Finder, or backup the entire hard drive using cloning software at least to two different drives or two complete copies on DVDs:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1992
You'll then want to erase and install 10.6 from the system installer you used to put 10.6 on your Mac, and run the combo 10.6.8 updater and apply the necessary security updates:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3261
Then you can install older versions of iTunes for the Mac from here, once you determine which version is compatible with 10.6.8 that you liked before by first checking which version is compatible with what you need:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_version_history
Once you know that, if you can't find it with Google, let us know and maybe one of us can help. Lastly reload your music in your music folder, and your other applications.

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • The 2.1.3 Software update won't work, the new version of iTunes won't download. Please help.

For several months now I have not been able to find a solution to either of these two problems. When I have the Apple Software Update program open and I click update, it loads for a second and then goes back to the usual page saying to update. It will not update. I have also tried, multiple times, to install the new current version of iTunes and that won't work either. I've tried to repair iTunes by going to Control Panel > Programs > Repair and it still won't work. Please help because I'm trying to download a new app but it requires the new version of iTunes. I am using a Windows Vista and I'm this is for my 4th generation iPod touch.

Did you try simply downloading the latest version of iTunes using the link below and then installing it on top of the older version?

  • HT1386 New version of iTunes won't let me move music to my iPod.

How do you move music from your iTunes library to your iPod with the new version of iTunes?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Syncing your iPod....>Sync You Device and follow the instructions.

  • Switched to a new computer - now iTunes won't open

    Hi everyone,
I did a search and couldn't find relevant/helpful information, so I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.
I recently purchased a new laptop that came with iTunes 6.0. My old laptop had iTunes 4.7 on it. I ran a program called PC Relocator to transfer all my files/programs/settings, and instead of choosing manual selection, I let it transfer anything and everything it "thought" needed to be transferred.
Now, iTunes will not open on my new computer. Whenever I try to open it, I get the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I have tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it, following all troubleshoot tips both on the website as well as in these forums, deleting all installation programs, all registry information - I even tried reinstalling it with the Recovery CD included in my new laptop, all to no avail.
I would sincerely appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might have. Thank you all so much!
    Antony Merkel

    hi Antony!
"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I have tried uninstalling it, reinstalling it, following all troubleshoot tips both on the website as well as in these forums
hmmm. is itunes currently still installed and giving you that message? if so, let's just check explicitly on the status of your quicktime. is that currently able to launch? if so, what version does it claim to be in your "about" screen?
    love, b

  • So, somehow Numbers saves my files as a new version and then won't open them until I update?  How is that possible?

I saved a spreadsheet a few days ago and now Numbers won't open it saying I need to update my version.  I only use the icon on my dock to access Numbers and I didn't update anything.  I also restarted my computer.  This happens around every 6 months and then goes away after several restarts.  I am tired of this game....Apple fix yourself and let me open old versions.....

Have you made sure you are trying to open the document with the latest version of Numbers?  You likely have both versions on your computer, the new version in your main Applications folder and the old version in a subfolder named iWork '09 or similar.
Any icons you had on your Dock before the upgrade still point to the old version, unless you took steps to change that.  Find the new version in Applications and drag it to the Dock so you have an icon pointing to the version you want.
The icons are similar, four bars for Numbers 3.x , three bars for Numbers 2.x.

  • New version of iTunes will not open says problem with QuickTime

Followed all instructions to unload/reload QuickTime still same problem iTunes will not open due to problem with QT so removed both iTunes and QT and reloades still shows message and will not open iTunes.

Try uninstalling the QuickTime Player application using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, as suggested here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926.
Also, *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled*, as suggested here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925.
Then download and install the latest version of iTunes from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

  • Updated version of iTunes won't open HELP!

After updating my version of iTunes to the most current version it now will not open. After telling iTunes to "run" the hour glass appears next to the mouse pointer and that is the extent of its attempt to open. The hour glass appears, then disappears just as quickly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled on 3 different occasions and have read through "iTunes 7: Answers to frequent installation questions" as well as other user discussion forums with similar problem descriptions and followed the directions but nothing has worked thus far. Please help!!! I need my music!

some preliminary questions aimed at narrowing in on possible culprits.
    (1) do you have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on the PC?
    (2) try launching your QuickTime. does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (if so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (if so, could you describe it for us?)
    (3) reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • New version of iTunes won't sync with Windows Media library.

Have just installed newest version of iTunes on Windows 7 PC, and also added new music to library in Windows Media Player.  For some reason iTunes is no longer syncing with WMP as it did in the past.   How to fix?

When iTunes is first installed it will offer to scan the computer for content. Thereafter you need to actively add content to the library, either by ripping or downloading with iTunes, adding to the Automatically Add to iTunes folder, using the Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library menus, dragging and dropping into iTunes, or playing from Windows Explorer if iTunes is the default media player. There is a tool call iTunes Folder Watch which some people use to automate this process, there may be others. iTunes doesn't do it out of the box.

    Do you mean iOS 4.2.1?

  • TS1424 MSVCR80.DLL file newest version of itunes won't open

    how do i fix this?

I too am having the same problem. iTunes appears as a process in Task Manager but after about 3 seconds ... nothing. It does not appear in the Applications tab. It just looks like it is waiting for something.
This occured after I installed the latest version of iTunes.
    I have:
    deinstalled iTunes and quicktime
    re-installed
    re-installed old versions
removed every reference to iTunes in regEdit
used unlocker to ensure no files locked (other than system files)
    renamed mymusic/itunes directory
    removed my virus checker
    rebooted 1256 time! at least
scanned google endlessly looking for ideas - I have tried a few without success
    (eg removing C:\Program Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info.sidb file)
pulled out most of my remaing hair
... and none of this changes anything!
The only thing left I can thing of doing is reinstalling XP - but this is pretty drastic with no garantee of working.
    Can anyone help us both?
