New version of Keynote: v. 4.0.2

Today a new version of Keynote came out, version 4.0.2. Software update didn't give much detail: "This update primarily addresses performance issues while playing or exporting presentations."
Anyone know what changed?
(Finder still says 4.0.1, but "About Keynote" says 4.0.2)

According to Apple it improves functionnality with leopard, and since there is a new leopard version coming out in a few days we might see the changes then. For now I have not noticed anything different.

IOS Pages 2.0 and 2.1 implement an entirely incompatible document format with Pages ’09 v4.3. It cannot open them, and you are then prompted to update to Pages v5+ which is compatible with your IOS Pages.
Unfortunately, updating to Pages v5+ is a bad thing, as it is a brand new application that has omitted over 90+ features from Pages ’09 v4.3. When you update to Pages v5+, it will move your old still functional version of the earlier Pages into /Applications/iWork. Aside from all the missing functionality, Pages v5+ will likely damage older documents that depend on specific Pages ’09 v4.3 features (including AppleScript and custom Templates).
Oh, by the way, the older and new Pages documents have the same filename extension (.pages) making document organization difficult without applying different tag colors to old and new documents.
We are recommending that users remain on their earlier Pages version. You may have to export documents from IOS Pages as Word .docx to avoid the OS X Pages update notice.

I can't get update iWork because I updated keynote first so it says I have a newer version of keynote and quits the update for the rest

I got a new mac with lion on it and I transfered all my stuff from the old mac to the new one. When I went to use iwork the programs did not work anylonger (I do own the disc and tried reinstalling but no good). I found the update for Keynote on the apple site and that solved the problem for keynote. Then I saw the update for the whole iwork program and tried to do that as well but it won't let me run it because it says I have a newer version of Keynote already installed. How do I get the update to work or how do I get the same type of update for numbers and pages individually? Thanks!

Loaded 5.0.1 and 5.3 - still can't open. I'm on 6.5.

What version of Keynote created the file?
Files created in new versions of Keynote are unable to be opened by older versions.

TS1060 I have the newest version of Keynote (6.1) and I am still getting the "You need a newer version of Keynote to open this presentation." error message. In "Get Info", the file is set to open by Keynote 6.1.

Anyone experiencing a similar situation? Any recommendations?

Try the repair routine for Keynote 6.1
be sure to complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1 delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote by using Appcleaner from Mac Update to      do this, its freeware
2 restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3 immediately after the start chime, press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
         let it fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4 when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and      click repair disc permissions
5 when complete, restart the Mac normally
6 install Keynote from the Mac App Store

Keynote says I need a newer version but I have 5.1 latest version

I have Lion and Keynote 5.1. When I try to open a 1gig presentation (years of work!) it says, You need a newer version of Keynote to open this. I have trashed all earlier versions of keynote, and downloaded 5.1 from app store. On 'get info' on the file it says it opens with 5.1.
All was well until I installed Lion.

You have both applications on your Mac and are opening the wrong one.
Pages '09 will not open Pages 5 documents and Pages 5 usually damages Pages '09 documents and refuses to open any earlier versions.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder:

Trash/Archive Pages 5 after exporting any Pages 5 files back to Pages '09 format.
Then rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

How do I force my Mac to update to a newer version of a Keynote file on iCloud?

I teach college and use Keynote on a daily basis. Lately, when I've worked on a Keynote file at home, when I go to my office (the next day) and try to open the file, the newer version won't be available yet to select. I can open the old version, or the new version on Keynote iCloud, but the version on my computer sometimes takes an hour or more to recognize that there is a new version on iCloud. Once it recognizes there is a new file, the download is very fast (my internet connection is fine). Is there a way to force my computer to check for new iCloud files (like the "CHECK FOR AVAILABLE DOWNLOADS" in iTunes)?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
If you saved any of the documents using Pages '08, then those docs will only open in '08. What you need to do with them is open them in '08, then do a Save As. At the bottom of the Save As dialog, you'll see an option to save as iWork '06. Choose this option. Once you're sure you've done this with all affected files, drag the '08 folder to the trash, then empty the trash. From now on, all Pages files should open in '06.

After recent upgrades, I have two versions of keynote on my mac

It seems that I have recently upgraded to the new version of Keynote: however, the old version of Keynote is still on my mac. Is that right or do I need to remove the old version manually?

The LAST thing you want to do is remove the old version of Keynote (5.3).
To my knowledge, the old version's existence does nothing to interfere with the new version's operation.
More importantly, if you've used the old version at all, you'll want to continue using it as the new version is a stripped-down shell of the old version.

I had to restore my iphone 3gs. Thereafter new versions of keynote, nummers and pages were downloaded by itunes. But they don't want to install on my iphone. How do i get back my old versions of these three programs that i bought in the past!

I can't update my version of Keynote

My iMac is running OS X 10.9.2 and a MacBook Air thats running the same. They are both relatively new.
I created a Keynote presentation on my iMac (Keynote version 6.2) and tried to open it on my Mabcook Air (Keynote version 6.1) and it gives me an error message saying that I need a newer version of Keynote. I have tried to do this but there is no update for it in the App Store.
Please help.

Delete Keynote version 6.1 and empty the trash.
Install Keynote 6.2 from the Mac App Store.

Can an older version of keynote play the files from keynote 08

My friend has an older version of keynote and when she tried to play a file from keynote 08. She could not open up the file and instead she got a prompt telling her to get a newer version of keynote.
Can she upgrade or will she have to buy iwork 08?

If you export a file as a Keynote '08 file, she'd need Keynote '08 to view it. During the save, it IS possible to choose to save as an older version, though, if that's what you'd like to do. Also, if her computer can run it, she can download the iWork '08 trial. Even after it times out in 30 days, she will still be able to open and view presentations (just not save changes).

I have the latest version of keynote but it won't open files....says I need a newer version

Latest Keynote app was downloaded wirh Maverick update. My keynote files won't open and error message says I need to download latest version. I cannot download newer version (have latest version already) because my purchases say I have already installed it. Any ideas how to fix this?

I have just the same issue. I have the latest version installed. I did work on the file this afternoon, cannot open it anymore with the current version of Keynote (6.2)
It seems that Keynote fails to save the presentation in the right way.
In the Finder the Show package contents command is active when Control-clicking the file. Keynote files that open correctly in Keynote do not offer to show their package contents. I also realized that the .key file not opening is only 135 KB, which is pretty scarce for a presentation.
I suppose this is a file corruption issue, which is needed to fixed by Apple. I'm affraid the contents of those files are gone.

I've upgrade my Macbook Pro and now the OS X Maverik, but when I purchased Keynote, Pages and Numbers there wasn’t an App Store available yet. I still have the old CD with the software in it.
How can I download the new versions without having to buy the apps again?

I have the the 09 suite alreday installed, and I didn't loose them with Maveriks upgrade.
Pages version 4.3, Keynote 5.3 and Numbers 2.3
Numbers was the only one notifying me that there was an upgrade available.
