New Video Message Virus

Synopsis of my day:
I received the following message from my friend today
(friend's username) has sent you a video message!
You can view your Skype video message at [REDACTED for safety]
(Ignore this message if this was caused by an internal error)
Unfortunately I did not recognize the above site as malicious.
The site prompted me to log in, and i inputted my username and password.
(Note: I just changed my password so I should be safe in that respect now)
Next it downloads a file.
(your username).zip
Inside is a large videomessage.exe file.
Upon opening it, nothing happened.
At this point I (falsely) believed I was safe. Just to be sure, I ran a scan with my antivirus.
Unfortunately, a few minutes later my scan was interrupted and...
My screen flickered and a windows 7-ish screen showed up displaying some message and I heard some alarm warning noises.
As soon as the weird things began, I shut my computer off.
A while later, I decided to turn my computer back on.
Everything seemed to be normal, and it started with no problems.
I then logged in as a Guest to be safe?
I attempted to resume my antivirus scan.
(I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. They have a security component "Chameleon" which saved me. It seems the virus blocks most anti-viruses)
After scanning, I logged into my main account and everything was back to normal. I deleted the files (username).zip and videomessage.exe, and I'm posting here for others who have encountered the same problem.
CPU DETAILS: toshiba s855-s5378 Windows 8.1 x64 processor

had the same thing happen to me this morning, then went searching through my computers internal files to see if i could find anything possibly hiding from me

  • Skype Video Message Virus

For the past week or so, I;ve been getting video call viruses. The person's editable name will say something along the lines of:
"NEW VIDEO MESSAGE RECIEVED! PLAY HERE AT PLAYOVS.COM".
The actual user ID will be something along the lines of:
    "v28497384928291"
I've blocked several of these acounts, yet they just keep popping up. Is anyone else getting these messages, and if there's a way to rid them, what would that be? Thanks in advance!

  • ABUSE - NEW VIDEO MESSAGE RECEIVED

I suddently received an incoming call which said NEW VIDEO MESSAGE RECEIVED.  I declined the call.  And then noticied the wording on who the call was from "NEW VIDEO MESSAGE RECEIVED! VIEW AT WWW.VIEWGOR.COM.  I immediately blocked the sender and reported as abuse.  This seems very inappropriate.  Is there anything else I should do with this?  Print screen below:

Thanks, I pretty much had done all of that but I just also added block calls that dont show a number - maybe that will stop them, although I saw from one site I checked out and reported, that they have a way to "send skype messages to an offline number " etc.... so it is obviously being promoted widely now
    They are driving me nuts!

  • Video Message Issue

Hello, guys! I have a bit of an issue with the new video message feature of Skype. That is, the option to send a video message is grayed out on every contact I have on Skype, but my friends can send me video messages and I can view them without any problems.
Skype version: 6.21.59.104 (searching for updates yields me that I have the latest version of Skype)
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 (100% legal)
Camera: Turbo-X 1080P Full HD with built-in microphone (functions perfectly during video calls)
Internet Speed: Average of 100Mbps if I remember correctly. Fairly fast and functional 100% of the time (I don't know if it is relevant)
Note: I have no Facebook or Live contacts on my contact list. I do not log in as Invisible. Some of my friends do, but the option is grayed out for everyone, not just those that are Invisible. The only personal modification I have done for Skype is to block the advertisments by blocking access to apps.skype.com through my Control Panel.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It seems that everything you are telling me to do about video messaging is not working.   Even going to the Help, About to check for the latest version of Skype is not working.   I downloaded the latest version just in case.   I want to send a video message but the instructions tell me to 1. Click on the contact and then 2. Click on the plus sign.   When I click on the contact, I do not get a plus sign.   I get a dialog box that has a paper clip beside it.   I click on the paper clip and it has the "Send Video Message" there.   I click on that and Skype tells me there is a problem.   What do I need to do?
    Help please.    Thank you.
Most likely you are on the new Skype version with a different design of user interface.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • No option to send as video message on ONE video.

I wanted to send a video message, but the last video I shot only gives bluetooth as an option after I select "options" then "send", not the option to send as a new video message. What happened and can I fix it?

Can you open a new text message and select video message and attach it that way?  Mary

  • I cannot view video messages I have received

I am using version 6.18.0.106 of Skype on my desktop computer (Windows 7).  A friend sent me a video message several days ago which I was able to view.  The following day, I tried to watch it again and received the message "Oops, something went wrong.  Please try again, or get in touch if you need help."  Later last night I received two new video messages.  I spotted them this morning when I signed in and tried to view them.  I received the same informational message.  No matter how many times I try to view these messages, I get the same message.  It is especially useless because it does say who I should contact.  I get the same message every time I attempt to create a video message.
Any help resolving this would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello there,
I have EXACTLY the same issue as Sojo1951.. I too am using the latest version of Skype on Windows 7.
I can watch recorded video messages from contacts on my Smart Phone, but mot on my PC.
This is quite frustrating as I have scoured the message boards, and no one seems fo have an answer to what is seemingly a common problem.
    Any help would be appreciated..
Sojo1951, did you ever manage to rectify this problem??

  • Error message when creating new video

Cannnot create a new video i get a error message i have imovie 10.3 says : Operation cannot be completed , No other information is available about the problem.

If you get this message when you click on the create button and no window opens then I would trash iMovie preferences, reboot and relaunch iMovie in that order.

Everytime I start a new text message there is already a video attachment in the message.  I tried removing it , resetting the phone, deleting that video, etc..no help.  If I start a new text, the video is embedded by default, help.  Its almost as if its a part of my signature but its not.  I took the video from an email message, and sent it via sms/mms to a friend, since then it just appear in every new message I create, regardless of who it is going to.  I thought maybe imessage got messed up so I turned it off and back on, still there.

I ended up resetting my phone by erasing all contents and settings.  Not ideal, but I was getting pretty frustrated with it.  Anyway, it worked.  I hope Apple figures this out cause I don't want to have to reset again if this happens again.  good luck.

  • Using my ichat to video message non-MAC users

I have a macbook and have two (remote) family members who use Windows OS'. We are all new to video messaging but I have been impressed with what the short goes I have had on ichat.
Can anyone recommend any (video) webchat software that my family can download that will allow them to chat with me on ichat. I want to avoid downloading any additional webchat software given how good ichat seems. Needs to be free and easy to install.

I'm using a Mac Air with Thunderbird 34.0.
When I forward an email, for some reason it now includes all of the headers at the top of the new forwarded message that I'm creating ... making quite a mess.
It looks like this below. How do I make it go away?

Need some help in saving video message from viber to my Iphone 5S with new ios 8's program . I disabled the thing that would save photos and videos automatically then, there comes a video I want to save. After loading and watching it, I press the "save to gallery" thing but it doesn't save in gallery. I tried all, restarting my phone, rebooting then turning on the save automatically thing and when I watch it again, it still wouldn't save.

Probably a good question to ask Viber or look at their support site.

  • Unsolicited by me, a new tab will open saying I need a new video player or PC cleaner. Why? And how do I stop that?

Sometimes, when Firefox has been open on my laptop for a few minutes but I've not been active on it, a new tab will automatically open up with a message saying, for example, that I should download a new video player or some PC cleaner software. I know it must be some kind of spam or malware, and I normally just close the tab, but I'm curious as to why this happens and how I can stop it from happening again.

That says a plugin needs updating. Open '''''Firefox > Add-ons > Plugins'''''.
Above the first plugin is a link that will check your plugins. Please use it.

  • Video Messaging Issues

Hello All, I am having issues looking at a video message that someone sent to me. I am on a Macbook Pro running (10.9) My skype version is (7.1). In skype it comes up with a link when I click the link it tells me to download it. When i go to download the Video message it downloads a exe. I am clueless on what to do. Please Help
    Thanks.
    James

Video messages appear inline in Skype.  You don't get directed to go to another (non Skype) site and definitely don't get linked any .exe files.  What you received is bogus and an attempt to infect your PC with a trojan/virus.  Since it was a .exe file it was designed to run on a Windows PC.    If the person is someone you know or trust then their computer/Skype client is probably infected and spreading the infection.  If it is a stranger I would suggest you block them and ignore future supposed "video messages" of this nature from anyone.

  • Can't get Send Video Message under conversation tab to be black

Put in new contact and when I try to video call can't get thru...I see under the conversation tabb that Send Video Message is greyed out.  How do I get it to black to be able to send a message?

It seems to be an ongoing issue the last couple of days..there's a few posts already discussing it in the forum. I found that if I sent the photos from my verizon acct on the iphone, it uploaded to the gallery fine..so it's a .mac account problem i think. Try it through another acct and I don't think you'll have a problem. It had always worked fine for me sending from my mac account until this weekend.
