New Wifi Card?

Hello, I have been trying to upgrade my wifi card. The standard wifi card is only bgn, and I want an abgn wifi card. However, the manuel only shows possilbe wifi cards being only bgn since I have an AMD model. I was wondering if I could just install an intel wifi card even though it says "intel only" laptops. I looked up online and intel says they have no compability issues with AMD chipsets. Also, I was wondering if the whitelist still exists in this model? (Been informed that whitelists are being removed for some models)
I was thinking of getting this wifi card: http://www.amazon.com/Bigfoot-Networks-KillerN-1202-Notebook-Wireless/dp/B008H5V9ZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT...

However, I am seeing this forum: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/HP-ENVY-TouchSmart-m6-k012dx-Sleekbook-W...
The person has a similar computer as me, and he did the swap anyway?!?! :L

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Consider yourself lucky that your MacBook is still working. Now, turn it off. Wine may have damaged other parts of your computer.
Then, take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. It will be a very expensive repair, as it's not covered by warranty and the logic board has to be replaced. In some cases, it may be better to get a new MacBook.
If you can't take it to an Apple Store, contact with Apple > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Satellite A110 - WiFi switch is not working with new WiFi card

    Hello Everyone
I have a problem with my Toshiba Notebook Satellite A110-178 (PSAB0E). I replaced the original WIFI card Intel 3945abg with Intel Link 5100 and on the new wifi card wifi hardware switch is not working.
New wifi card is discovered and drivers working correct but when I try to scan for wifi networks with IntelPro/Wireless software I have message to turn on hardware switch but it's turn on and not work. On old wifi card swich is working correct - orange light is on. On new card light is off and swich is not working.
    Please help

    Hi
    Maybe you could enable the Wlan card using different way;
Go to device manager -> WLan card properties -> Advanced tab
There you could check if there is a option which would enables the WLan.
    Its worth a try
Otherwise its a compatibility issue like suggested by PinkPanther
I read in different threads that this could happens if there is a different pin assignment on miniPCI WLan card and this could not match with the miniPCI slot on the mobo...

  • New WIFI card will NOT connect correctly.

    Hi,
I just purchased a Gigafast WF748-CUI wireless card for my iMac G3 running Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.10) and I followed the instructions exactly and did everything right but it will NOT connect. It keeps generating these weird IP addresses beginning with 168. but my networks IP address begins with 192. I had the same problem with my previous WIFI card on the iMac but it would work eventually. I have been messing with this one for like 2 hours and it has shown no sign of working. I even entered a manual IP address in but still nothing. The program for the wireless card says its connected but it is not (or isnt connected to the right IP anyway). What do I do?

Sooo, there's no way the CP has to "Join" a Network? Just says you're connected to 169.x.x.x?
Might try making a New Location in Network CP, turn off all other Ports, the set the IPv4 settings to Manually...
    IP: 192.168.0.5
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router: 192.168.0.1
Assuming the Router is 192.168.0.1, but change the 2nd & 3rd digits accorcdingly.

  • [GAVE UP] New Wifi card problem - no orange "Wifi on" light

For some silly reason the Intel Wifi 4965 agn mini-PCI card in my wife's laptop will not work with anything newer than Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. Linux will not even "post". (I think that's the right word) So, I ordered an Intel Wifi 5100 agn mini-PCI card as a replacement.
When I installed it, Linux recognized it (hooray!) but will not use it. (boo!) The dmesg output says that the radio is disabled by the hardware switch. (the physical switch on the case of the laptop) Also, the orange "Wifi on" light does not light up any more.
Physically, the new card is an exact replacement for the old one. I don't think the two wires are on backwards. (they are labeled) I did not see anything in the BIOS related to Wifi. Toggling the switch off and on does not help. It is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 with an AMD Athlon64 processor.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?
Does anyone have a suggestion of what to try?
    Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion. I installed the firmware, the modules were loaded correctly, and the OS detected it, but it wouldn't work.
I pretty much have given up. I returned the card mentioned above. I even bought and tried another wifi card without success. My experience has been:
Intel wifi 4965 miniPCIe: Works great, but anything past Linux kernel 2.6.27 (I think it was) will not boot with the card in the computer and with the wifi switched on.
Intel wifi 5100 miniPCIe: The wifi switch never appeared to detect it. Linux detected it and installed the drivers for it, but the "wifi on" light never turned on, and Linux couldn't use it because it didn't think it was on. I gave up and returned it to Newegg. The problem may have been related to this, but that is for miniPCI cards, and not miniPCIe.
Intel wifi 3945 miniPCIe: It is branded as a Toshiba card, and so I thought it would work in a Toshiba laptop. I bought it cheap off of Ebay. It is neither detected by the OS or the wifi switch.
I'm not sure what I'll do now. I may buy a PCMCIA card. I may just leave Hardy on it until it dies.

  • New wifi card for PowerBook G4 (2002, OS 10.4.11)

    Hello,
Can anyone recommend a wifi card for a PowerBook G4?
I've just bought a secondhand model, and I'd like to broaden its wifi capability. Being able to use WPA security would be a good start.
    - Richard

I bought the WiFi card from eBay. It's a Chinese clone of a Motorola WN825Gv3 (part number: 518565-001-00). Here's the old eBay link: http://bit.ly/XmW0Gb
I can't remember exactly what settings I used on my Powerbook – mainly because I clicked things at random until it worked – but I did have to click "renew lease" in WiFI settings to get the card to work.
I didn't have to change any settings on my router, but the card isn't compatible with 5Hz WiFi frequencies, or the "n" speed WiFi.
Other than having to renew the lease occasionally, the card works smoothly.

  • Error when installing new wifi card. g50-70

Tired of having a crappy Realtek based wifi card I bought an Intel 7260 AC card as I'm upgrading my home network.
However when I install this industry standard m.2 card into it's industry standard m.2 slot and reboot.
I then get an Unauthorized Network Card message.
How do I fix this error message? It's just absurd.

Hi plupien79, welcome to the forum.
According to your Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 80:

Any other card will not pass the BIOS white list. Please note the FRU number for these cards. You can't install an "off the shelf" card, without the Lenovo branding. When buying a card, make sure it's expressly stated that it will work in a Lenovo Idea system.

  • New wifi card with Bluetooth

    Hi,
i search for my Probook 6550b a Mini Pci Express wifi card with bluetooth.
For the moment i have only a wifi card, with this spare part number 572509-001.
    My CPU is a Intel I5 M520.
I found on the HP partsurfer site this card 593127-001. But the wifi is not the best on this card.
Are there any other better cards that work?

How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • 2180us wifi card update? New card not on white list

I bought a dual band 802.11ac card with the intention of updating the single band 802.11n card in my laptop. It is a dm4-2180us. When I put it in I discovered that the BIOS will not boot the computer. I since learned that the BIOS has a white list of acceptable cards. All others are prevented from booting. All seemingly from 4 years ago!
What options do I have to go to 802.11ac dual band? Is my otherwise perfectly fine laptop stranded with sub par networking?
I have two of these laptops and two of these cards I cannot use.
    I am frustrated.
    -Tom

So, it seems that HP agrees that the white list was a bad idea in that they no longer do it. But that does not solve the problem for people who have laptops from that period. My understanding is that a lot of the BIOS's have RSA keys, so that it is impossible for a user to modify them.  Actually I have looked for a modded BIOS for this model and it seems to not be avialable.
Also there are no cards avilable that offer ac or dual band.  For that matter how would I know what is on the whitelist other than a handful of cards from 5 years ago.
HP is still updating the BIOS from time to time.  Mine is in the file sp60704.exe (01651.fd). It is probably a 2 line code change. I wish they would supply an update removing the white list.
I'd get a USB dongle but the machine has USB 2.0 and that is actually slower than the new wifi cards. Also USB has its own throughput issues, even if I had USB 3.0 it would run slover than the max data rate.
I feel that HP owes buyers of these older machines some kind of a fix. Especially given that their policy is to not implement white lists  in BIOS anymore.

You do not need three anten to N
I also have a Sony VAIO laptop and there is a wifi card intel 5100 N (for 300Megabit / s) and plugged the two antennas.
3 if the card has the antenna and the laptop
    is needed to 450Megabit / s
which is probably wifi intel 5300 and intel 6300 wifi
For this you need a router 450megabit
This card Advanced Intel Centrino-N 6200
which would use the Toshiba P105-S6024 also has 2 entrances to the antenna. The laptop has two antennas.
The problem lies in the bios toshiba laptop.
Bios adopt certain cards (so-called white list),
I must have deleted the bios white list, or to teach a new wifi card intel 6200
    How do I do?
I'm almost 101% sure that the card must match
You have to modify the bios

  • AC wifi card upgrade for dv7-6b77dx?

Hi.  I'm considering purchasing a router utilizing the new AC wireless standard and I'm wondering if there are any AC wifi cards that are approved for use in the US with the dv7-6b77dx?  I was looking specifically at the Intel 7260HMW but if there's any other AC wireless card that's approved for use I'm open to alternatives.
If there aren't any currently approved for use, is there any expected timeframe when one will be?  Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Thanks Huffer.  I thought that was probably the case but figured I'd just check anyway.  Good info though to know that HP doesn't add new wifi cards to the approved list with bios updates.  Not what I wanted to hear of course but at least I know now not to wait for that and go with a USB adapter instead if AC wireless is something I really want.
FYI though for anyone else considering this upgrade, I just tested an AC USB adapter from my local Best Buy along w/a new AC router and I wasn't that impressed (great at short range but no better and actually worse than N at a distance which is what I really wanted it for).  Maybe that was just the router and adapter I tried (both Linksys) but for now I've decided to just return those and stick with the laptop's Centrino N card.

  • Dead laptop - bad wifi card or ???

    Hi all,
Oddball question: I have a Lenovo t410i that is completely dead. About two years ago, I dropped a bit of water on the keyboard, and something got fried so that the keys wouldn't type correctly anymore. When I went to replace the keyboard, I accidentally ripped one of the cables from the Intel Wifi Card (model 622anhmw). When this happened, the laptop would not power on. After two years, I am finally sitting down to try and fix this, but before I go buy a new wifi card (the cable was ripped out with the solder connection), I wanted to ask if anyone out there knew whether simply replacing the wifi card will actually solve the problem.
Seems like it's a pretty strange thing for the laptop to route all power through this tiny card, but I've seen stranger things.
    Thanks!

My WAG is a blown fuse (if there are any in that laptop) or something else that got yanked on and shorted when the cable was ripped out.
You'll need one of the members, mods, or gurus her on the forums with repair experience to offer advice.  Sorry, it's above my pay grade.

  • Yoga 2 11 support for new AC Wifi card

I just recently upgraded my Yoga 2 11 with a new Crucial MX100 512 GB SSD.  While in the laptop, I pulled the factory Wifi card and bought and installed the Intel Dual-Band Wireless AC 7260.  I get the dreaded error on bootup that it has detected a unsupported wi-fi card.  Is there a supported AC card for this machine, or plans to support this Intel card?
The top card is what came from the factory (real piece of junk), and the bottom is the new Intel card.

Have you considered looking at what's available in the Lenovo Outlet ?
    Here's one example, Y11s Haswell: http://outlet.lenovo.com/outlet_us/itemdetails/59RF0542/445
Listed as a refurb. My experience with refurbs from the outlet is that I couldn't tell them from 'new'. YMCV.
