  • Latest News on MDX and Oracle OLAP  (from Simba Technologies)

    [http://blogs.simba.com/simba_technologies_ceo_co/2009/05/mdx-query-language-for-oracle-11g-olap-update.html|http://blogs.simba.com/simba_technologies_ceo_co/2009/05/mdx-query-language-for-oracle-11g-olap-update.html]
Excerpt from above Simba Technologies CEO blog*
One interesting thing we found from some of the Beta customers is that they thought this was an Excel only solution. Yes, we are focusing all the efforts for v1 on Excel, but this is planned to be a full blown MDX provider for Oracle OLAP*. Therefore, you will get the entire MDX query language and this interface will be similar to what you have with Microsoft Analysis Services or SAP Business Warehouse. Although v1 will be ODBO only, we are planning to support XMLA in future versions. The priorities for what we support and when will be customer driven. One question I have is after Excel, which MDX application do you think we should test with and support next:
    1. SAP Business Objects Crystal Reports
    2. SAP Business Objects Voyager
    3. MicroStrategy 9
    4. Microsoft Reporting Services
    5. Microsoft SharePoint BI
    6. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 8
    7. Panorama NovaView
    .

Thanks very much for your response. Pls find the details as requested. You can reach me in [email protected]
    Environment Details
    - BO XI 3.1 SP4 Enterprise Premium (incl Voyager) on Win2008 R2 [Tomcat Flavour]
    - Oracle 11.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition with OLAP on AIX 6.1
    - Simbha MDXProviderForOracleOLAP v2.1.0.23 on Win2008 R2
Cubes are built using AWM 11.2.0.2A.
To be more specific, the issue occurs when we attempt put a filter on the dimension (or select members of the dimension) both in the existing workspaces or when we try to create a new workspace in Voyager. Attaching the screenshot of the error message.
Kindly let us know incase you would require further information. Also, if you would like to have a webex session where I can show the issue, I am happy to do the same.

  • OBIEE Vs MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP

    Hi Gurus,
We need to present to customer a comparison between OBIEE 10.1.3.4 and SIMBA´S "MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP" to attack OLAP Cubes in 11gR2.
Of course OBIEE is more powerful and complete, but technically, we would like to know which OBIEE capabilities (apart from ibots, scheduling, hability of representing information) are not available or cant´t be utilized from SIMBA´s Sw.
Are there known limitations of MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP?
Is it truth that in the new OBIEE release the Microsoft Office add in is going to be more powerfull or is it going to remain the same?
Thanks in advance for your answers,
    Best Regards,
    Nch

  • Are there any Oracle OLAP ODI Knowledge Modules for Oracle Olap 11g ?

Hi guys, wasnt sure where to post this so I put it here and the ODI forum
Does anybody know when Oracle OLAP Knowledge Modules, will be available for Oracle Olap 11g. It appears that the knowledge modules released with Oracle Data Integrator 10.1.3.5, currently only work with Oracle Olap 10g...
If there is no timeline, does anybody know of work around to get ODI reverses working on Analytical Workspaces built in Oracle Olap 11g
    Thank you
    Richard

Raise a service request with Oracle Support (Metalink) for your system slow issue. May be, they will recommend you the workarounds for the issues which are not yet available for 11g in the form of Patches.

Any help in this is grate .
    regards ,

I am pretty sure I've done this on one of my past project..
why don't you try it out?
Another route would be use customer APIs (TCA APIs)...which I am sure can achieve what you're looking for.

  • Forum site for Oracle on Windows2000 or NT

Is there any forum site for Oracle on Win2000 or NT?
    Thanks.

I'm assuming that you're seeing the memory leak on the client side, right? Can you describe what operation(s) leaks memory?
Are you sure that the version of the Oracle ODBC driver you're using is matched correctly to the version of the Oracle client you have? The 8.1.7.x Oracle ODBC driver, for example, should only be used on an 8.1.7 Oracle client. The 9.2.0.x Oracle ODBC driver should only be used on a 9.2.0 Oracle client. It sounds like at least some of your configurations were violating this rule.
Have you tried downloading the latest version of the Oracle ODBC driver from OTN (8.1.7.8 is the latest 8.1.7.x series as I recall)?

  • How to create a standby site for Oracle BISE1

    Hi,
I want to build a standby site for my BISE1 site. The primary requirement is that in case of a disaster, when the primary site will be down, the standby site can continue providing the services.
I can build STDBY database for the primary warehouse database, but I do not know how to proceed with the other files of BI system.
Please help me with some articles what Oracle offers for this purpose.
    Thank you.

    Hi Amit,
If you are planning to setup DR Portal at a remote location, federated portal or Data Replication Tools at DB or Storage Level can be used.
Also A Standalone Portal with a well defined Change Management (UME Data, Portal content Items such as pages, roles, KM content with km exchange) can be implemented.
If both servers will reside at sam location, Clustering may be an option.

  • Error creating a new Data Source for Oracle connection

I'm trying to create a new data source connection to our
Oracle 10gR2 server using ColdFusion Administrator 6.1 Standard on
    a Windows 2003 server.
I created a System DSN ODBC connection for Oracle. I can use
the ODBC connection when connecting an Access db to Oracle but when
I try to use it w/ ColdFusion Admin it generates the following
    error message:
Connection verification failed for data source: sitest2
    []java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC
    Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error:
    Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
    [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket]internal error:
    Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The schema/user is system and the password is alpha-numeric, upper/lower case, no special char ...
As a workaround I was able to add the password to the entry in the datasources.xml file and restarted BI Pub.
The JDBC is working ... I can test the connection successfully ... just wont save the entry

  • New undocumented parameters for Oracle 11.1.0.7

Oracle 11.1.0.7 has some undocumented new parameters. I was unable to
find anything on Metalink or Google. The parameters are:
    cell_offload_compaction
    cell_offload_parameters
    cell_offload_plan_display
    cell_partition_large_extents
Is there anybody who knows what these parameters are about? It looks
like a brand new mechanism, possibly for handling NUMA or, maybe, MODEL
clause and analytic functions? These are wild guesses, I have no clue
about the true nature of the parameters.

OK, I've got a new theory.
I bet it's to do with the new Exabyte storage. The units of an Exadata Storage Server are called "cells" and the parameter names sound right for that. I really like theidea of being able to see the explain plan at the cell level.

  • New Wiki Page for SAP Advantage Database Server

Please find a collection of ADS related information’s in our new Advantage Wiki Page

All the links on this forum work fine...
But if I try to find the page from the main menu by selecting Wiki, SCM, APO, I don't see any other links to get to CIF, DP, SNP, etc...
Below is what I see (w/o any links to CIF, DP, SNP ,etc..)
But I may have found the path:   You click on Additional Features on top right.
    This displays the options...
    This was NOT obvious...
I was expecting the links on the page itself...
    SCM Advanced Planner & Optimizer
APO (Advanced Planning and Optimization) application is at the heart of SCM. It offers planning and optimization functionalities in different business processes of Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Supply and Demand Matching, Production Planning Detailed Scheduling, Global Available to Promise and Transportation Management.
Collaboration with Suppliers and Customers is also possible through newer application Supply Network Collaboration (SNC) till recently known as Inventory Collation Hub (ICH)
With SCM 5.0 a new set of functionalities under Services Parts Planning were added specifically catering to Spare Parts Management.
APO as a application is tightly integrated to execution (OLTP) system like ERP using a standard interface called Core Interface Function (CIF). It also has full BI (erstwhile BW) component for Data Mart as well as Reporting functionalities.

    Hi Bhanu Chandar,
Unfortunately, direct FTP of Oracle patches ended when Metalink was replaced with My Oracle Support last autumn. The only available options for getting patches are:
    1) Via My Oracle Support, with your web browser
    2) Using a command-line utility such as wget, as described in the link Srini provided
Srini, thanks for posting the link! :-)

  • New HDD, asking for pw, no option boot

    Hi all,
I'm trying to ready my 17" Core Duo iMac, 2006 model for sale. Along the way, Apple geniuses helped me diagnose a failed HDD, so I bought a new one, and replaced it yesterday. When I log in, it all looks great, until I get to a login window asking for a Name and Password! Under Mac OS X logo, the fine print says "freelance6osx" if that's any clue for anyone.
Now the plot thickens. I can put in various install disks, the one that came with the machine (10.4), and one that came with my newer machine (10.6), and hold down any number of keys, and the best I can get with either the C key or option key held during boot is a very brief flash of a ? folder before it happily goes on to boot from the new hdd and whatever "account" is there on it. (there are sometimes more, sometimes less, encouraging whirrrrs of the CD in the drive) No single user boot, no safe boot, no resetting PRAM is possible, try as I might. I am always sent back to the login in window, and obviously have no clue about either user name or pw. I'm royally stuck!!
    Any ideas?

Here's the solution: I had to use my Snow Leopard (purchased) install disk. The disks that came with this machine were for an older OS, and the one that was for another machine, while it was Snow Leopard, also was incompatible. But the SL install disk allowed me to boot from the disk, and I'm on my way.
