New windows 8 laptop, old xp laptop want to move to new computer.

Popular question over the years.
Want to move itunes program (or does it require a new install?) and all music, podcasts and video from xp to windows 8 computer.
Old information in multiple threads is sometimes conflicting and contradictory.
Can I and do I move the program and all the contents at one time or does it require making a new program install on the win8 machine and then moving contents from xp machine to win8 machine?
What about deauthorizing the xp machine? Necessary?
If it is necessary, at what time in the process is this done?
How is it done?
Thanks all.

Create a new program install, click here, pick the option which best fits your situation, and deauthorize the old computer.

I see a small window displaying "Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now". How do I stop appearing this window

Is this after you've chosen to Shutdown from the Menu, or just on it's own?
You can press the esc key to cancel, or Enter key to shutdown.
Check your System Preferences>Energy Saver>Schedule & see if it's set to shutdown at a certain time.

  • I have a new hard drive fitted, next to my old one, I want to move my bookmarks from the old hard drive to the new one.

My old hard drive had a problem, I can get info from it, I just want to get my old bookmarks.

The user data is store in the profile folder. You can copy the data manually by copying the relevant files from the old profile folder into your current profile folder. If it is just the bookmarks that you want, you can just copy places.sqlite from the old profile folder.

  • Have sansa mp3, Windows media player on old pc now want to move music(mp3) to ipod touch and Mac itunes can't find a way to do this

I have a Sansa mp3 which I used Windows media player to download music to.  Family made the move to Apple.  Now need to move mp3 music to itunes on Mac.  Can not find way to do this.  MP3 device does not show up when connected to Mac by USB. Please help!

In the iTunes folder there should be a folder saying "Import to iTunes". It is either in Music/Itunes or Music/Itunes/Media. Put the music you want on your iPod in this folder, start iTunes, and sync.

  • Using an old imac, I want to move to Icloud

I would like to move to Icloud but when I went to upgrade the OS it said my Imac is not compatable even though it's an 2Ghz Intel Core Duo. Is there any other way. ????

You must be running Lion OS X 10.7 in order to use iCloud.  And your model of computer, which uses the Intel "Core Duo", is Not compatible with Lion.  You need at least a "Core 2 Duo" CPU to run Lion. So, if you need iCloud it's time to purchase a newer iMac.
    Hope this helps

  • How to sync iPad to new computer/macbook maintaining game data

    Hi,
my wife is using an iPad (1)
Sofar she has synchronized with iTunes on a windows machine.
Right now I want to move to iTunes on a new macbook.
I have synced on the old (windows) computer.
I have 'transferred purchases' on the new macbook.
    (Apple id's are the same)
All apps are now on the iPad and the macbook.
Now we need to sync the iPad and iTunes on the macbook.
Question: what will happen with all game data.
Apparantly all apps (250 games!) will be removed and replaced from /on the iPad.
But what will happen to to game data/status?
Will all the work in (e.g.) the 'Smurf city' be wiped out?
Is the a way to keep/remain/save the game data?
thx in advance for your tips and hints

You want to restore from the backup in order to restore the app data and game saves.
I have posted this a number of times. You have done some of this already, but this is a "start from scratch" list ofinstructions for syncing with a new computer. Anything that does not apply - like transferring music or photos at the end - just ignore.
    1. Authorize the computer.
    2. Turn off auto sync in iTunes
    3. Transfer purchases
    4. Backup the iPad
The following was copied from this thread. This is essentially what you want to accomplish.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your new computer, start iTunes. Click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your computer and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your computer, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on iTunes / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Read this thread and the support links as well. There are apps that you can purchase that will allow you to transfer photos from the iPad to your computer. Look at Photo Transfer App in the App store and you can search for others as well.

One final note - you may want to leave auto sync turned off - but that is totally up to you. I never did use auto sync.

  • PSE 10 Catalog from old XP laptop to new Windows 7 laptop

    Hi,
I have an old laptop with Photoshop Elements 10 and Windows XP. I am now changing to a new laptop with Windows 7 (64). Based on my understanding I should make to following steps:
With old XP laptop: Create a full backup of the catalog to an external harddrive using PSE 10 Organizer's Backup Catalog -function.
Install PSE 10 SW to the new Windows 7 laptop.
Restore the backup from the external harddrive to new laptop using Restore Catalog -function.
Deactivate PSE 10 from the old XP laptop.
However, I am a bit puzzled with the step #3 and I thought I ask first before doing anything.
In the old XP laptop I have all the pictures in the D:\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures -directory. In that directory I have different kind of sub-folders for my pictures.
In the new Win 7 laptop I should have those in D:\userdata\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures -directory.
As you can see there is a slight difference in those directory-paths. Due to that I assume I cannot use "Original Location" as a restore method. However, I want to keep those sub-folders which I have under My Pictures, so I cannot use "New Location" either. But if I use "New Location with the Restore Original Folder Structure" I guess I wll have something like D:\userdata\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures\<my username>\My Documents\My Pictures or...?
So, just asking what is the proper way to proceed if I want to have same folder structure under My Pictures - folder, but use Windows 7 default path for My Pictures?

I guess it is always good to ask, since immediately after posting this question I realized I should use "New Location with the Restore Original Folder Structure" and the new location is just D:\userdata\
Of course, if you have any additional comments/instructions I should take into account, just let me know.

  • How do i move my itunes account from my old windows xp laptop to my new windows 8 laptop

My old laptop uses Windows XP but it is so old the memory is far too small to cope with my itunes library. I have purchased a new laptop with Windows 8, how do I move my itunes account from my old laptop to my new one.. not very PC literate unfortunately so I would appreciate simple instructions..

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
    Full Details Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.

Never mind, I think. I think I figured it out. There was 1 song (out of > 900!) that somehow had been purchased with the other ID - I have no idea how. Once I deleted that song, it stopped asking.
There may be something with the newest iTunes version too. I didn't think in older versions that the "On this iPod" list of songs was greyed out. But at least it syncs ok.

  • Moving my iTunes collection from an old Windows XP Laptop to a new one

I have a large collection of music and books on iTunes. My old laptop (Gateway)has reached the diaposability phase of its short existence, so last weekend I bought a new Dell Latitude laptop with XP Pro. How can I move my current iTunes collection to my new computer - without reloading all of the music from the original CDs?
Gateway & Dell Laptops   Windows XP Pro
Gateway & Dell Laptops   Windows XP Pro

You just need to move the music files to the new PC. And then add them to iTunes on that PC.
You can also try moving the iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files as well. They hold the song data for your library. They are usally found in C:Documents and Settings/<<Your User ID>>/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/. This usally seems to cause problems though so I would skip it.
The music files can be in any number of places on your PC. If they came from the music store they will have extentions like .m4p, .m4b, and .m4v. If you ripped them from CD they will probablly have either .m4a or .mp3.
How you move them is up to you. You could burn them to CD/DVDs, copy them over a home network, or move them with your iPod. There are a lot of catches to that last option.

22020134.exe is the file Adobe say you must download and run to instal Acrobat 7.0 Pro. I went through the  process, the one described in your link, I downloaded the file, ran it, it runs well, except it tells me my serial number is invalid. Now what? Does this mean I now have to discard my Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional and start again with a $500 purchase? All I want to do is transfer what I have to another computer.
