My X230 (not T) is scheduled to arrive in a couple of days. What are the first 5 - 10 things I should do with it after I unbox it to get off to a good start? Thanks!

the Windows Update issue was likely caused by KB2647753. it's a known Microsoft issue and it needs to be installed all by itself, then all of the others should succeed. please see the Community KB:

regarding what to allow TVSU to install, pretty much everything is safe, depending on your needs, but i would strongly recommend *not* allowing it to attempt to do any BIOS updates, if they're offered. my advice is to approach those cautiously and, if you choose to do, use the bootable CD method.

I think about how to construct the site first and spend a
good deal of
time trying to work out what is going to happen to the design
should 'x'
happen or 'y' happen. When I'm satisfied that I have assessed
various
diffrenent approaches/options I'll set about writing the
unstyled main
structure code.
I'll get the main structure up and running, test it
cross-browser then
add more unstyled content and style it. Thats it really. Just
add more
content, style it, tweak it, add more content etc etc, until
its finished.

New MBP First Steps & Stumble

Just started using the new Macbook Pro I purchased and all was well until Update started installing the Intel OS 10.4.7 update. The system froze solid and that's the way it stayed for 45 minutes until my impatience took over and I powered-down.
From there, it was all downhill. System would not boot beyond the opening Apple screen and the spinning hashes. A hardware test and boot from the install CD was okay, so I figured that I'd reinstall and try again.
So I did! Repeated the same procedure and poof, same thing happened until I realized that maybe I should just run the Intel update and then worry about the others later.
That was the magic bullet. So, if you are prompted to update your MBP, my experience is to run the Intel 10.4.7 update alone and then update everything else after the reboot.

This is often a wise move.
It is also a good idea to repair permissions before and after and install.
Another option is to manually download (not through software update) the latest combo installer for your machine and run it from the download.

The recommendation is always to make another ID for use with a paid books account. And while I can't swear this is at the root of your issue, you should in any case reach out to Apple for assistance on this one, I think.

QT 7.2 & iPhone - First Step to Ringtones?

The new QT 7.2 has an export to iPhone and iPhone cellular.
It only shows as "Movie", but exports "audio only" files also.
Could this be the first step in giving us personalized ringtones?

This is very interesting. I just downloaded QT 7.2 because of your post. There are obviously two options, export to iPhone and export to iPhone (cellular). I tried both of them. Export to iPhone appears to convert the movie into mp4 format with little change to the file size. On the other hand, export to iPhone (cellular) reduces the file size to 1/10 of the original size. I am not sure how one can use the latter option. Does anyone have any clue?

New iphone indicates voicemail temp password has expired, set up new one. Step 1 asks for current password. I don't know what it is. What do I do/ does that mean to just enter a new one?

New iphone 4 indicates that temporary voicemail password has expired, select a new one. In trying to do so, the first step is to enter current password. I either did not have one, or I don't remember it. Could the prompt mean just to enter a new password?

in the first step of lsmw,
i selected batch input recording, gave name ' ytrial01' and when i pressed overview,
it says please enter valid name
so i went to tcode, shdb and then created a recording with name 'ytrial02' and saved it,
came back and gave this name ' ytrial02' , it still says, please enter valid name.
can some one help.

Please follow below steps :
1. When you select batch input recording ,here do not enter name first time.
First click on overview -> Now click on create button -> you get pop up window ->
give the recording name ,Description -> enter -> enter transaction code ->enter all required fields when you go for other transaction.
Once you completed recording -> here you will see new screen -> please click on default all,click on save -> go back -> go back,now enter recording name
You will not get any error message.

Can not get Itunes match to work. It stops on the first step and on my status bar it just says "sending information to apple" this goes on for hours. Help please.

I am having a similar issue with iTunes Match. It keeps hanging up on the same number of files (11035 of 15455) during STEP 2. I've tried signing out, re-opening iTunes, re-booting, etc. Still comesup stuck for hours. What I also don't understand is why the "iCloud Status" option in "View/View Options" disappears intermittently. It was there when I first booted up this morning and I reviewed all my music files to see if there were any "errors" and there werne't any. But after Match gets stuck on the same file niumber (11035) I 've signed out and re-booted and now the "iCloud Status" check box is missing from "View Options" (only the "iCloud Download" option remains present all the time. Please help. (I've also checked to make sure all the music files are within the suggested bit rate parameters and file type - This is also a brand new iMac out of the box). Running out of troubleshooting ideas and beginning to think this service just doesn't work well.

First Steps On Oracle

I'm new to databases. I finished installing Oracle9i and I have passwords for two accounts, SYS and SYSTEM.
I can log into isqlplus through http or sqlplus on the command line as SYSTEM, however it doesn't work for SYS.
When I try to log in as SYS it says:
ORA-28009: connection to sys should be as sysdba or sysoper
Well what is the proper method of creating a database. I imagine that I need to create a user account. Is this done while connected as SYSTEM? What are the first steps to take after installation, not that the database is installed correctly?

I can log in like that from the command line:
[prompt]$ sqlplus '/ as sysdba'
SQL>
However how do I log in as sysdba with the browser interface, for example:
[prompt]$ galeon http://myaddress:7778/isqlplus
The browser interface asks me for:
username:
password:
connection identifier:
When I try to enter sysdba as the user name, what password do I use? the SYS password doesn't seem to work. Yet I can purely log in as SYSTEM using SYSTEM's password and it works. I used my Global Database Name for the connection identifier.
Should I just create the new user from the console and log in as the new user from the browser interface? Maybe it's not possible to log in as sysdba using the browser interface because the browser want's passwords.
One more question. What is the significance of a SID? When/how do I use that?

Repeated BSODs in my brand new X230 (with Windows 8)

Hello
I purchased the new X230 in early December and then went on vacation (without it) for two weeks. Thus this is really my first week using it. I've had NINE blue screens of death already, each with the term dpc_watchdog_violation. Further, my Citrix remote work-enabled system shuts down on this computer, making this computer just about useless for work purposes. I'm worried this is a lemon -- how can I have so many crashes in the first week of use? The summary of the crash events is below. Has anyone had similar problems? Has anyone had problems with rtwlane.sys on their X230s?

I did some research on the issue on Microsoft's website and found this page explaining what a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION is. According to Microsoft, this error is normally caused by either hardware or a driver of associated hardware. For this reason, I would recommend making sure that all the drivers and BIOS are up to date to rule out any software reasons for this issue. All drivers for your system can be found here. It could possibly be hardware, but let's hope that some updates will get it running smoothly.

How to create DTR server, first steps...

Hello,
I would like to start using the DT feature.
I see that when I create new Client at my NWDS I am being asked to enter the DRT Server URL. Does this comes with the portal installation (I am using NW 04 SP 11) or should I install it separately? Can anyone please give me "first steps" towards the DT?
