New X800XT, poor performance

I just upgraded from a Radeon 9600 (only 64mb) to a Radeon X800XT (256 mb) expecting to see a big improvement in performance, but I can see no improvement at all. I get the same hesitations when viewing Hi resolution video, and Maya hardware renders (which use the video card to render) run no faster. I also get exactly the same performance in Maya's workspace.
I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from ATI, is there something else I can do? Am I missing something?
G5 Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Dual Monitors (1-21" cinema display, 1-CRT)

You've done all of this, right:
Have you tried the usual items:
Repair Permissions: Finder>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility>Select Drive>Repair Permissions.
Reset the PRAM: Shut down computer>Restart and hold down CNMD-OPT-P-R during startup until second POST chime is heard, then release.
Run CRON scripts: Finder>Applications>Utilities>Terminal>Open Terminal>Type in "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly" (sans quotes) and quit when finished.
Reset the SMU: Underneath the ram to the right is small SMU reset button. Power computer down, remove side cover, air baffle and fan assembly and press button once. Put machine back together and restart.
Reset the Firmware: Shut down the computer, and on restart, hold down CMD-OPT-O-F and type in "reset NVRAM" and then "reset-all" (sans quotes) when prompt line appears.

  • WAD-Analysis Item-Poor performance for new lines

    Hi.
I use WAD7 for entering new records in IP.
According to our business requirements, in analysis item properties I have defined "Number of New Lines in Planning Queries" = 50.
After that I face before extremely poor performance - it takes about 1-2 minutes until the page has loaded (note that it is empty page - only new blank rows).
When I define new lines = 1 performance is very good (2-3 sec).
Does anybody know what could be the problem ?
    Thanks.

    Hello Andrey,
the number of new lines configured in WAD is completely unknown in the ABAP backend and has no impact on backend performance; in fact, the front end gets information about one 'line' of template cells, this costs nothing.
Checks for characteristic relationships etc. only may have significant costs for cells of the result set, not for new lines.
Whether this problem comes from the ABAP backed or form the Java stack or from the browser rendering can be checked
with an RSTT trace. Is the run time of the trace different between 1 or 50 new lines, were different backend calls recorded?
If not, the problem comes from the Java stack or from the browser rendering. One can check the latter via task manager.
To check (partially) the run time in Java and/or ABAP stack add the parameter &PROFILING=X in the url, cf. note 1048691.

  • New Workstation Yielding  Poor Performance . . . What's Wrong?

My new workstation is performing much worse than expected in the PPBM5 test as compared to other computers with the same or very similar components (i7-930 no O.C., 24GM RAM, P6X58D Premium motherboard, EVGA GTX 470 graphics card and PremPro 5.0.2).
The total time and performance index are much slower than anticipated
The MPE ON rendering is dramatically underperforming compared to MPE OFF.
The cropped test results from Sept 27 are shown below. Computers with similar components to mine (DM_3) have red lines under them. It it particularly interesting to note that several other computers with MPE are also under performing.
This was the best test result of those I ran. In some others, the computer was set for "Best Performance" and all un-needed programs turned off and yet the results were a bit worse than those in which I had not made such changes.
The machine was assembled by an apparently competent computer service professional who does video editing himself. He made sure the latest drivers were downloaded and installed.
I have a four hard drive, no RAID system installed; C:\ OS & Programs, E:\ Media & Projects, F:\ Media Cache and G:\ Previews & Exports.
For the PPBM5 test shown above, the project file was located on the E:\ drive and the scratch fiels were set to "Same as Project", the Preferences were set for Media Cache files on the F:\ drive. In other tests I changed the locations of the scratch files but saw no visual evidence of improvement and the Statistics.vbs file would not function.
I even ran the test with the Capture Format, in Project Settings, set to HDV instead of DV as the test Readme file shows. The results of this test showed a wider gap in performance with the MPE but it was still only a 3 X improvent over Software Only.
Something is amiss and I am at a loss to understand what. Any suggestions?

    Bill -
    Thank you!
Creating a second user account did the trick. It also allowed me to see what I had done to reduce the effectiveness of Premiere Pro in the first place. I mistakenly added Microsoft Office and a couple of other programs to the new workstation in the belief that if I did not have them open when I used Premiere Pro their presence would not impact the program.  Wrong!
I set up the new account on the workstation with only those Adobe programs on the taskbar which I would use in conjunction with Premiere Pro. When I re-ran the PPBM5 test yet again the resutls were far better:
    MPE ON:   130, 45, 95,   12  for a total of 282
    MPE OFF: 130, 45, 95, 126   for a total of 396
Interestingly, when the computer service professional set up the workstation for me, we went through Harm's Guide, referred to above, step by step and the pro said that much of it could be ignored as unnecessary. Clearly, his unfamiliarity with Premiere Pro coupled with my own technical shortcomings were the source of the problem. I suspect that as I uninstall those programs on the workstation not specifically needed to utilize Premiere Pro, the performance will be even better.

  • New Project settings...possible solution for AVCHD poor performance

I have experience very poor performance when editing AVCHD content from my Canon camera.  I was using the DV widescreen by mistake as the last format I used was a DV camera.
When I switched to AVCHD Full HD 1080i 30 the performance was greatly improved.  But I actualy have my camera set for 1080p 30.  It's a setting on the canon vixia HF S100.  My options are 60i, 30p, or 24p.  I prefer no interlacing so I can avoid de-interlace issues when posting content on computers (plus most TVs are progressive today and it's easier to go from p to i without impacting quality).
But which options is best for me?  should I try and create my own custom setting?  I noticed in the Hard Disk and Flash presets they have two settings (one says 60i but that is anamorphic).  The HD 1080i 30 looks like the same settings Full HD 1080i 30.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Safari hangs and poor performance in MBPR (Mid 2012)

Safari hangs and poor performance in MBPR (Mid 2012)? OS X 10.10.2 is up to date

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Crashing and poor performance during playback of a large project.

    Hi,
I've been a regular user of iMovie for about 3 years and have edited several 50GB+ projects of DV quality footage without too many major issues with lag or 'dropped frames'. I currently have a 80GB project that resides on a 95% full 320GB Firewire 400 external drive that has been getting very slow to open and near impossible to work with.
Pair the bursting-at-the-seams external drive, with an overburdened 90% full internal drive - the poor performance wasn't to be unexpected. So I bought a 1TB Firewire 400 drive to free up some space on my Mac. My large iTunes library (150GB) was the main culprit and it was quickly moved onto the new drive.
The iMovie project was then moved onto my Mac's movie folder - I figured that the project needs some "room" to work (not that I really understand how Macs use memory) and that having roughly 80GB free with 1.5GB RAM (which is more than used to have) would make everything just that much smoother.
    Wrong.
The project opened in roughly the same amount of time - but when I tried to play back the timeline, it plays like rubbish and then after 10-15 secs the Mac goes into 'sleep' mode. The screen goes off, the fans dies down and the 'heartbeat' light goes on. A click of the mouse 'wakes' the Mac only to find that if i try again, I get the same result.
I've probably got so many variables going on here that it's probably hard to suggest what the problem might be but all I could think of was repairing permissions (which I did and none needed it).
Stuck on this. Anyone have any advice?

I understand completely, having worked with a 100 GB project once. I found that getting a movie bloated up to that size was just more difficult with jerky playback.
I do have a couple of suggestions for you.
You may need more than that 80GB free space for this movie. Is there any reason you cannot move it to the 1TB drive? If you have only your iTunes on it, you should have about 800 GB free.
If you still need to have the project on your computer's drive, set your computer to never sleep.
How close to finishing editing are you with this movie? If you are nearly done except for adding audio clips, you can export (share) it as QuickTime Full Quality movie. The resultant quicktime version of your iMovie will be smaller because it will contain only the clips actually used in the movie, not all the saved whole clips that iMovie keeps as its nondestructive editing feature. The quicktime movie will be one continuous clip, incorporating all your edits and added audio. It CAN be further edited, but you cannot change text of titles already there, or change transitions or remove already added audios.
I actually do this with nearly every iMovie. I create my movies by first importing videos, then adding still photos, then editing with titles, effects and transitions. I add audio last, and if it becomes too distorted in playback, I export the movie and then continue adding audio clips.
My 100+ GB movie slimmed down to only 8 GB with this method. (The large size was due to having so many clips. The movie was from VHS footage of my son's little league all-star game, and the video had so many skipped segments that I had to split it into thousands of clips to remove the dropped ones. Very old VHS tape!).
I haven't upgraded to QT 7.5.5, but I heard that the jerky playback issue is mostly resolved with this new upgrade. I am in mid-project with about 5 iMovies, so I will probably plod along with my work-around method, not wanting to upgrade in the middle of any of them.
Hope this is helpful to you.

  • URGENT: Migrating from SQL to Oracle results in very poor performance!

*** IMPORTANT, NEED YOUR HELP ***
Dear, I have a banking business solution from Windows/SQL Server 2000 to Sun Solaris/ORACLE 10g migrated. In the test environment everything was working fine. On the production system we have very poor DB performance. About 100 times slower than SQL Server 2000!
    Environment at Customer Server Side:
Hardware: SUN Fire 4 CPU's, OS: Solaris 5.8, DB Oracle 8 and 10
    Data Storage: Em2
DB access thru OCCI [Environment:OBJECT, Connection Pool, Create Connection]
Depending from older applications it's necessary to run ORACLE 8 as well on the same Server. Since we have running the new solution, which is using ORACLE 10, the listener for ORACLE 8 is frequently gone (or by someone killed?). The performance of the whole ORACLE 10 Environment is very poor. As a result of my analyse I figured out that the process to create a connection to the connection pool takes up to 14 seconds. Now I am wondering if it a problem to run different ORACLE versions on the same Server? The Customer has installed/created the new ORACLE 10 DB with the same user account (oracle) as the older version. To run the new solution we have to change the ORACLE environment settings manually. All hints/suggestions to solve this problem are welcome. Thanks in advance.
    Anton

On the production system we have very poor DB performanceHave you identified the cause of the poor performance is not the queries and their plans being generated by the database?
Do you know if some of the queries appear to take more time than what it used to be on old system? Did you analyze such queries to see what might be the problem?
Are you running RBO or CBO?
if stats are generated, how are they generated and how often?
Did you see what autotrace and tkprof has to tell you about problem queries (if in fact such queries have been identified)?

  • Poor performance of Premiere Pro on 2013 Mac Pro

A month ago I bought a 2013 Mac Pro mostly for running Premiere Pro CC. The configuration is 6 cores @ 3.5 GHz, 64 GB RAM, 2 x D700 graphics, 1 TB internal SSD. It runs OS X Mavericks 10.9.4.
I tried Premiere Pro CC today for the first time. The input--entirely stored on the internal SSD; no external disk was even connected--was about 100 clips shot as AVCHD (1080p25 PAL) at 24 Mbps.
I edited this in Premiere Pro and added small adjustments (mostly changes of levels) in about 20 clips. The rest had no adjustments. There were no transitions applied. For the most part, it just had to copy the trimmed input clips to the output.
I queued this for Adobe Media Encoder CC at H.264, 1080p25, @ 24 Mbps VBR 2 pass. Audio was 192 kbps, 48 kHZ,stereo. The output was written to the internal SSD.
While encoding, the CPU was running 50-70% idle (!!!) so it was using only 2-3 cores and half the memory (32GB) was unused. It certainly wasn't trying very hard. No other programs except Premiere, AME, and the activity monitor were open during encoding and I was just sitting there watching it lumber along.
The time to encode the timeline of 9:47 was 21:28. That is 2.2x real time. My 4-year-old Windows machine using CS6 could do that. What's wrong? Should Premiere Pro be this slow on hardware this fast? Is there some secret box "Use all the cores and all allowed memory" that I have to check (I set the preferences to allow Adobe to use 52 GB). Does Premiere get tired in the evenings? The internal SSD runs at 900 MB/s and there was no transcoding to do. What was going on?
This is my first test of Premiere and it is kind of disappointing. Did I just waste 6500 euros on the Mac Pro or am I using the wrong settings. Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks.

Yes, should be great if someone put some light in all this performance thing in the new mac pro, I just did a test, 3 video tracks with 4K Red footage, 50% of opacity each one and I just play the 2 min sequence, and Premiere started to drop frames at half resolution playback and when I changed to full resolution playback the sequence was unplayable, I mean, they sold this MacPro/Premiere workflow as the way to edit 4K without compromises and now we are not capable to deliver jobs because the poor performance... and I'm not talking now about the constant crashes and freezes, I'm talking about that we can't play just 3 tracks without any effect.
Would be great if someone put some light on this, maybe we are blaming adobe and it's apple's fault and we should go to the apple store to return the machine... I did test on the Mac and looks OK, I'm more than confuse about this...

  • Poor Performance of Safari with YouTube

Recently I have noticed really poor performance of Safari when I try to watch videoes on YouTube.
I have experienced this both with my 2009 iMac desktop and my brand new MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display.
This can't be a network problem because I pay Verizon way too much money every month for their FiOS Quantum service and various speedtests that I run look OK.
Is the problem with Safari or what?

You guys are not following me. And, I'm not sure if I used that term right. I was talking about answers you see from google searches, not from people here. I am a 40 year old business owner not a kid. What I meant by "fanboy" is that a lot of times when you search online for something like "Itunes on my PC is not seeing my ipod", you see the most popular answer is "Buy a mac". Yes it may be funny, but it is not really helpful. That is the type of person I was referring to, and I was not talking about people here. People on this discussion board seem to be very helpful. I own macs and PC's, so don't like the answer "get a mac". I have one (three in fact), but I also have PC's. I love my mac computers, my iPhone, my iPad, my AppleTV and all of that just like you guys probably do.
I still think it is an interesting and strange issue. If you contacted the IE folks, they would say "Are you having this problem on all websites?". As soon as you said "No, just this one". They would say "It must be the way the website is written". If you talk to someone here, the answer might lean towards "If it runs fine on Safari, but not on IE, it must be an IE issue".
I was just thinking it was an interesting enough scenario that someone had looked into it. Sorry if I was misunderstood and riled someone up.

  • ITunes 5 poor performance in mini player view

When I switch the iTunes 5 interface to the "mini player" view (green plus button), iTunes consumes ~65% CPU time continuously. This isn't the case when iTunes is minimzed, and when the entire interface is visible it only takes ~15% CPU time continuously. This wasn't the case with iTunes 4.x, in which the mini player mode didn't appear to consume any more CPU time than any other view mode. It's terribly annoying since it heats the computer significantly and forces my laptop's fan to spin nonstop.
I can only attribute this behavior to the new "skin," but is anyone else seeing poor performance from iTunes 5 in the mini player view?

No, I just downloaded iTunes 5 a few days ago and I don't have any add-ons. I should clarify that this is on my 867MHz Powerbook G4.
I've been observing the CPU usage some more, and it seems to take a huge hit with songs/labels that are very long; i.e.: ones that scroll sideways across the yellow display on the second line. I've noticed this behavior with Podcasts--the Podcast name will be short and will not scroll, then it's description will roll up and will be long enough to require sideways scrolling. The poor performance comes only whin scrolling titles are being displayed, consuming 45-65% CPU.
Playing music with short artist and album names consumes 10-15% CPU continuously, with spikes to 35% when the artist/album rolls upwards on the yellow display window. If sideways scrolling is displayed, again CPU usage stays high.
If iTunes 5 is in mini player mode and not playing anything (only the Mac logo in the yellow window), then continuous CPU usage is <1%.
It seems to me that text animation in the GUI has taken a huge hit with the upgrade to iTunes 5.

  • CS6 poor performance

    Hi.
I have a workflow that involves opening several raw files into Camera Raw via Bridge, adjusting the settings, then from Bridge I use the command to open files into Photoshop layers. While that is happening in Photoshop, I go back to Bridge and open the next several files in Camera Raw and make adjustments. When done, the first lot of files will be in layers in Photoshop ready for me to start layer blending.
This worked fine in CS5, but in CS6 it all goes wrong after a few batches of files. Camera Raw is slow to respond to adjustment of sliders and is slow to update to changes in settings. Then I find that Photoshop has aborted the loading of files into layers. I end up with one layer with an empty layer above it. I close this file, but when I quit Photoshop I'm prompted to save a file that I cannot see and is not listed as an open document under Photoshop>Windows.
This is a show-stopper for me, and have reverted to CS5 to get work done. Hoping to find a solution.
Running a MacPro, with 2 x 2.66 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processors, 24GB RAM, standard ATI Radeon HD 4870 card that came with the Mac.

A lot of the poor performance of CS6 is linked to the video card and driver.  CS6 relies a lot more on the video card than CS5 and also has a new graphics engine.  It may take a little longer for ATI and NVidia to get the drivers configured correctly.  THe latest 12.4 from ATI is worse than the 12.2.  Perhaps the next update will get it right.

  • Adobe Reader XI Shows Poor Performance.

    Hi there!
I've been using acrobat for a few years now , but the Acrobat Reader XI , its showing poor performance rendering a Big PDF file Like 2.8MB (its a MS Proyect Exported Document)..and I have tested it with another PDF viewers and it works fine. Any AR Bug maybe. FYI it complete freezes the Computer. (Im using a Core i3 W7 Pro x64 bits , 4GB , so the PC is not the problem) . I have tested in  2 pcs and i got the same results.

I just posted the below on another discussion.  But read below and give it a try.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit with Adobe Reader 11.0.3 and am experiencing the same issue. Opening PDFs takes a long time and there is a delay and it freezes for a period of time and then it will unfreeze and becomes available.
What I have found to be the issue in my case is that Protected Mode is enabled. If you open Adobe Reader and click on Edit and Preferences then go to the section Security (Enhanced). You can turn "Enable Protected Mode at Startup" off by unchecking the check box.
After that give it a try and see if that doesn't clear up the issue.
I hope Adobe provides and update or new release to address this issue as it seems to be a problem with quite a lot of folks. Not sure what is causing it but it shouldn't be that way. Our users are chomping at the bit to turn it off but I am telling them not to for now as I hope there is an update soon to fix and address the problem.
And don't tell me to turn it off and keep it off either as that is NOT a solution.
    Anyway - hope it helps.

  • EA6500 Poor Performance

    Hello all,
I recently upgraded from a Linksys Wireless-N router that was only a few years old to the EA6500. Since upgraded I have constantly been have performance and range issues with the new router. On many of my devices the WiFi drops constantly and the only way to stop it is to reset the router. With range I am only getting around 20 feet before I start having connection issues. With my old wireless-N router I was receiving around double that. I even have problems with devices such as my Google TV being able to located my PC for streaming content unless I manual connect using the IP address. Wired connections work without any issues.
I have changed the channels and the spectrum so nothing is changing automatically. At this point I am at a loss of what to do. Is it just that this router has poor performance? I would be surprised since this was fairly expensive.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.

I dont know with your old N router, but the EA500 is a dual band. Try changing the wireless name of the 5ghz so that it is different from the 2.4 ghz. This prevents the dual band wireless computers or devices from switching between the 5 and 2.4 ghz causing wifi drops.
Check if your router's firmware is up to date. You can click on connectivity and click on check for updates. If there's a new firmware available, better update it.
Set your wireless security to WPA2 personal, on both the 2.4 and 5 ghz band.
Bring the router as far away as possible from any wireless device that could cause interference, even electronic devices.
Place your router in an open elevated place to eliminate wireless signal obstruction.
If your have access points or extenders in the network, make sure that the devices are in sync with the settings of your new router.
Make sure you are using the recommended power adapter of the new router and not the power adapter of your old N router (this happened to my friend before).

  • Poor Performance of Blackberry 9860-Torch Model RDP71UW

This is to inform you regarding my sincere concern over the blackberry product. I had bought a new blackberry torch 9860 11 months back and since then am facing problems because of the poor performance of the handset. During this period I have taken this handset 4times for servicing to your authorized service center. My data loss and of-course time is lost each time. Its too pathetic that I have to take the phone for service in the very first year of purchase and despite of that still has complaint. I am really sorry to say the performance of this reputed brand is far below the expectation and is poor that any cheap quality phones available in the market.
I am least satisfied with the quality of phone and also doubtful about the other blackberry models available in the market.
Finding no other alternative I am forced to forward this expecting a sincere reply and a solution to resolve the issues with my handset.

  • Project Server 2013 Poor Performance

    Hi Guys
On a new build of Project Server, we are experiencing poor performance across the board, Site Collection, Central Admin, everything is slow.
We have allocated 12GB and Quad core (lower end of the recommend scale). However as there are no users, I would expect it to be fine at the moment (Search is not setup or anything, just a simple service app with a pwa site provisioned).
What things can we check? From looking on the internet, Distributed Cache crops up a lot. Can this bring performance right down?
For the record, we have March 2013 PU and Oct 2013 CU applied.

    Hello,
There could be a number of causes, it is very difficult to diagnose without understanding the farm infrastructure. Can you give details of:
Number of servers in the farm + Specs
If virtual, is the host server over committed? Have you set up reservations for memory and CPU?
    What is the storage?
What is the network speed between servers / storage etc?
Do you have any Anti-Virus software installed on the servers? If so, have you tested with it disabled on all servers in the farm?
