New Xeon Xserve

I dare hope that the new xserves will at least tolerate booting off FibreChannel as to what is still non existent on the mac pro ... I mean who will use the things if we cannot clone and boot back from the raid in case of a failure ? I would be more than happy to see something done as quickly as possible before the units start shipping. This at least would avoid the embarrassements we met with the Macpro.

one of the reasons i would not setup an xserve without raid boot capability...
1) We need raid 5 to be deployed all along the setup ... that is about 50 machines. how would you suggest we simply do that with the internal drives?
2) Ram has never been the issue we are looking at 32GB configs a piece we will need that for rendering...
3) Boot time and data access speed and reliabilty are critical in the application.Yes we could move the VMs somewhere on the raid but the futher you wonder from Apples config on Mac os X server the more likely you may get a spanking during next software update .... (serialnumberd on mac os X server anyone ? )
4) ok these severs are not to be human accessed normally yet you have to get 24/7/360 operation parameters ... if you cannot boot an external drive in case of a problem arises you are toast.
5) i have a macpro that shipped with the F/C card and i have ordered a raid drive for test ... guess what i tend to backup my internal to my F/C every two days something went bad with the internal .. could not boot off the raid means reinstall from the CD then getting back your data from raid to internal... now imagine that with 50 xserves , scary.
6) Raid 5 may seem like a waste of perfect good storage to anyone but it is a necessity in the corporate environment. The goal is here is redundancy AND throughput.
7) We separate data from boot as much as mac os X server tolerates (that sometime isnt much) ... but we need complete redundancy and recovery capacities in case of failures. And that includes boot and data partitions with recovery times under the minute range. that means boot capability off the xraids . All the mission critical stuff comes off the xraids. (boot raid 51) (data raid 51) X2 with 8 extra raids that cycle backups from the mission critical setup. The internals are just intermediary storage ... (backup drives managed on a raid 0 basis).
keep in mind Raid5 is the master need here , not speed or storage space...
PS: keep in mind that mac os x server 10.4.8 universal binary would not install on the macpro on anything but the internal hard drive (ouch). rapid deployment went out the window with that one , hence the need to reinstall from the the CD on the macpro ... then backing back from the xraid to the internal .. time consuming process if there is one.

  • Resolve the Ethernet Port Issue of New Intel Xserve

    Hi all,
I want to get Clarify the Issues in new Intel Xserve 2.26GHz Quad-Core Xeon "Nehalem" processor. The Network Connectivity of Ethernet is Shows Wrong in System Preference. If I Connect the Ehternet in Port 1, the Port 2 also Shows Connected without Pluging the Ethernet Cable in Port 2.
Port 2 is Shows Green When No Connectivity of Port1 and Port2.
I Tried in 3 Xserves with the above Configuration, all the Server Gives the same Issue. I even Formatted and Reinstalled with all the updates but the Problem prolong.
    Awaiting your replies/suggestions.
    Thanks

Call Apple Support for assistance; this looks to be a nasty error with multiple new Xserve boxes and given these are likely covered under their initial warranty, which implies there's something seriously weird with 10.5.6 or 10.5.7, or with the Xserve early 2009 boxes, or firmware, or with what the configuration tools allow.
It appears that [threadID=2021235|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2021235] and [threadID=2021817|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2021817&tst art=0] are the same case?

  • Bootcamp on new Intel XServe

Does anyone know if it's possible to run bootcamp on the new Intel XServe machines?
Boot Camp Assistant tells me I need to upgrade the firmware on the XServe before proceeding, but I cannot find this for the new XServes.
Does anyone know if this is possible?
I am trying to install Fedora Core 6 using bootcamp.
    Regards,
    Trevor.

    >Well, hwmond won't be running, so the fans won't be controlled
Are you sure about that? hwmond simply logs the hardware status and sends emails if there's a problem. There's nothing in the man page that hints that hwmond is responsible for adjusting the fan speeds. Althouth I don't know for sure, I'd expect that there's firmware-level control of fan speeds based on temperature sensor inputs, not OS-level control.
    > it's unclear whether all the ECC handling will be done
ECC would be handled by the (hardware) memory controller, not by the OS.
There might be no mechanism to check the state of the ECC (e.g. count errors), but I'd still expect to get the benefits.
    > and power supply failover (if you've got the dual supplies) won't work
Again, I'd expect this to be handled by the firmware, not by the OS. hwmond is probably responsible for detecting the failure and reporting it (e.g. via Server Monitor and/or email), but I would still expect the basic power load balancing and redundancy to work - you'd may just need to periodically check the LEDs on the back to check PSU state.
Note, I'm not saying Boot Camp will work, or that it won't work, just that I don't expect these hardware-level features to be affected.

  • Moving Public from G4 XServe to new Intel XServe and preserve permissions

We have purchased a new Intel XServe (10.4.8) and need to move the Public folder and Users folder from our old XServe G4 (10.3.9) to the new one, and would like to preserve the permissions.
Both of these are OD replicas; there is an XServe G5 (10.3.9) which is the OD Master.
Apple Tech support tells me it is not possible.
I have tried ditto, tar, scp, and a Finder copy to an external FireWire drive. None of these attempts have successfully preserved the permissions.
    tar cf - * | (cd /target; tar xfp -)
    ditto -rsrc /oldpath /newpath
I have searched the archives, but not found any answers.

Thank you for the link - I will try Dan's tar syntax tomorrow (and hope there are no differences with 10.3.9).
    /usr/bin/tar -cvf - xyzzy | /usr/bin/tar -C target -xvf -
I also like his hint about handling remote files.

  • New intel Xserve with Leopard Server setup assistance....

    Hello
Im quite a newbie when it comes to administrating OS X Server, Xserves and RAID's so please bare with me if the following question seems obvious or dumb...
Currently I have inherited the following setup - G5 Xserve running 10.4.10 Server which has the following services running = Kerio MailServer, AFP, DHCP, DNS, Firewall, NAT, OD, VPN and Windows. This Xserve is also connected to an Apple RAID via fibre channel for file sharing and also to a Tape multi-changer backup unit via scsi.
I have just bought a new Intel Xserve and have installed 10.5 Server on it. I have this server as I would like to get iCal Server and Directory up and running and eventually share some of the G5 services. For iCal Server and Directory I assume ill need the 10.5 Server set up as Open Directory Master but my worry is I have that already on my G5 Xserve. If I was to migrate the 25 usernames from there to the 10.5 Server, would every user still be able to connect to the RAID (as the RAID is still physically connected to the G5 Xserve) for file sharing?
I hope some one could advise or recommend a better way, let me know if you need me to try and clarify the question better!
    Thanks in advance

  • New Intel Xserve crashing.

    Hi
My College bought a new Intel Xserve last month.
I have set it up and configured all the iMacs in the art department to access it and created user accounts for all the students. The server has been happily working for around three weeks now, however over the last two days the server has locked up twice. Users can't authenticate and I cant us ARD to remote control it. If I go to the server room and physically control the server I can use the mouse but all input doesn't seem to register. For example if I try and click on Server Admin the app doesn't launch, I can click on force quit and get the same results, if I press applealtescape force quit doesn't appear.
Has anyone else experienced these kinds of problems with their Xserve or could give any indication of what the problem might be? I can provide dumps of any server log you request.
    Thanks
    Phil

This sound like it could be related to the networking hardware. Any chance that you have a defective switch or router?

  • New Nehalem XServe doesn't have Quartz Extreme?

I have a new Nehalem with 2x 2.93GHz Quad-Core (16 cores total) with the standard NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 256MB Graphics card. For some reason Final Cut Server 1.1.1 and now 1.5 doesn't believe this server has Quartz Extreme and refuses to install. For that matter, Compressor also refuses to open for the same reason.
What I have to do is go to a previous generation Xserve, do the install on the hard drive, then move that hard drive back to the Nehalem. So other than Compressor not opening, the Xserve is behaving normally with Final Cut Server near as I can tell.
Any ideas what's up with this Xserve? I've reduced the display to as low as 800x600 with no change.
    thanks.

You need to have a display connected for it to register that it is Quartz Extreme capabilities. Get a displayport to VGA or DVI adapator and hook up a monitor. With the previous intel boxes with the mini-dvi connector it was enough to just have the the dongle that came with the server plugged in at startup to get it to register Quartz Extreme. I am not sure if plugging in the display port adaptor with nothing else on the other end will work as all my installs and servers as of late have all had KVM switches. But the concept is still the same. The video card has to see something on the other end before it registers.

  • New Intel Xserve Lights Out Management dies

Have a new Xserve with LOM. Problem is that after about 1/2 an hour of monitoring with the Server Monitor application from my desktop MacPro the Xserve stops responding via Server Monitor. The only way to get it to work again is to reboot the server. Not good. Anyone else seeing this behavior? Anyone have a fix or can someone from Apple confirm this is a known problem?
    Thanks!

Ok, Having fought with this for the last 2 days, lack of solid documentation, etc, here's my results:
First set dns and reversedns (obviously)
    EN0 set to 10.0.1.51
    EN1 Disabled
    ILO1 set to 10.0.1.52
    ILO2 set to 0.0.0.0
This configuration worked, occasionally, but had numerous "Failed to contact server", and remote ipmitool was SLOW.
    EN0 set to 10.0.1.51
    EN1 Disabled
    ILO1 set to 0.0.0.0
    ILO2 set to 10.0.1.52
This configuration worked, even less than the first, and remote ipmitool acted slow, but returned nothing.
    EN0 set to 10.0.1.51
    EN1 set to 10.0.1.52
    ILO1 set to 0.0.0.0
    ILO2 set to 10.0.1.52
This configuration worked, occasionally, but had numerous "Failed to contact server", and remote ipmitool was SLOW.
    EN0 set to 10.0.1.51
EN1 set to 0.0.0.0 (Static IP, and all fields cleared)
    ILO1 set to 0.0.0.0
    ILO2 set to 10.0.1.52
This configuration works, consistanly and remote ipmitool was very fast.
The command I was using to test ipmitool was:
    $ ipmitool -H 10.0.1.52 -U USERNAME -P PASSWORD chassis status
In addition, I found that ANY changes to the IP for EN1 or ILO1/2 caused the ILO module to get lost, and require a reboot. (unplug method)
Thus, this is the method I found to get it working, after setting DNS and RDNS for the 2 IP addresses I was to use:
    1) Unplug the power from the XServe for 10 seconds at least (others recommend 30, but I believe that as soon as all lights are off, that's sufficient)
    2) In Network Preferences, set up Built-in Ethernet 1 as you'd like for whatever network access you will need.
    3) In Network Preferences, enable (if off) Built-in Ethernet 2, and clear all fields. IP address will default to 0.0.0.0, Subnet Mask will default to 255.255.255.0, and all other fields will be blank.
    4) In server admin, use "Configure local Machine" to default all values on Port 1 so that IP and gateway are 0.0.0.0 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, then switch to Port 2, configure the settings you want the ILO port to use. (do not use the same IP as EN0 obviously).
    5) Set the username and password for the ILO user. (I had NO problems whatsoever with usernames less than 8 characters contrary to reports to this extent) You MUST enter a password again, regardless if it's been set in the past, then apply the settings (authenticate if necessary).
    6) Shutdown, and disconnect the power once more to shutdown ILO.
    7) Boot, make sure the XServe can login to itself at localhost with the ILO login name and password.
    8) On another system on the same subnet, run:
$ ipmitool -H IPADDRESS -U USERNAME -P PASSWORD chassis status
(replacing IPADDRESS with the ILO's IP address and USERNAME and PASSWORD with the ones you set in step 5)
    9) if you see something like:
    System Power : on
    Power Overload : false
    Power Interlock : inactive
    Main Power Fault : false
    Power Control Fault : false
    Power Restore Policy : always-on
    Last Power Event : ac-failed
    Chassis Intrusion : inactive
    Front-Panel Lockout : inactive
    Drive Fault : false
    Cooling/Fan Fault : false
you should be fine, and Server Monitor on the remote system should connect fine.
The conclusion is that the key to getting this running is in enabling EN1, yet not giving it any TCP configuration.
Hope this helps someone out there...

  • Old Apple xserve Raid 1.24 and New Intel Xserve

    Guys
Quick question - i currently have an Apple G5 xserve setup with an apple xserve raid {1.24} as a file sharing server in my studio
ideally i am looking to get my xserve upgraded to the new intel version but would like to know if the old xserve raid would still be compatible with the new xserve?
any info would be super appreciated!
    so7

Yes - it will work just fine. The only issue is that you'll need a new Fiber channel card for the Intel XServe since it only supports PCIe cards, not PCI-X used by the previous XServes.

  • Brand new Intel Xserve Intel - blinking yellow light

    Hello:
I was wondering if anyone had any information on this.
I am the design/production/IT manager at a publishing company where we just purchased a brand new Xserve Intel. It is a quad core 2.8 GHz model with 2GB of RAM, 80GB internal hard drive, and a few external FireWire 800 drives attached. It's been a truly great machine so far, but there are a couple of problems we've been trying to figure out since we got it out of the box.
Upon powering the unit up for the first time until present, the yellow system identifier light on the front panel of the machine has been blinking nonstop. It's following a pattern of blinking very fast 3 or 4 times, followed by a 1 to 2 second period of being off. The yellow indicator light on the right hand rear side of the machine has also been blinking with the one on the front panel in tandem. The operations manual indicated a few possible problems, including the enclosure lock being on or being in an alarm condition, both of which have been ruled out. Pushing the button makes the light blink very rapidly also, but with no pause in between.
Our IT consultant from corporate headquarters was recently at our office and recommended that I call AppleCare to ensure that there were no hardware issues with the machine. The technician I spoke with stated that the blinking yellow light problem can be any one of about 4 dozen different things but as long as we were all able to connect to it and haven't had anything strange happen with our files, we should be good to go. At that time, our files were still migrating from the old Xserve to the new one, but even with that being over, the lights still continue to flash.
The other problem we've been experiencing is while in the Server Monitor utility. On the main information screen, the server name is blank, the IP address is showing up correctly, and the status summary reads "failure to connect." The log is set to update every ten seconds and keeps spitting out a "failed to contact server" error.
Everything is appearing and working correctly in the Server Admin utility.
Any information regarding either of these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi everyone and thanks for all the info...I'll check all this out a bit later on today and get back to you.
Just a couple of other general questions I had for now...I've done a little investigating and noticed a couple of things, I'm wondering now if I'd be better off just tearing this thing down and reconfiguring it...unfortunately the person that was sent out here from corporate didn't do the best job of setting anything up!
    1. I noticed that we are hooked up to the second ethernet port vs. the first one. A couple of days back when I switched it to the first port, no one was able to sign or access the server.
    2. I recall that the new Xserve kept crashing in the middle of the OS software update (not sure which build or version it was, but it was the version that was just over 900 megabytes). The original operating system needed to be installed a total of three times as a result of this, just to get us to the point where we're at now.
    3. It appears that the LOM is the first thing that needs to be configured for everything else to run smoothly (although I could be wrong?)
    4. The biggest problem we encountered was migrating our files from the old Xserve to the new. We have a base configuration Xserve and our drive setup is a 750 GB Lacie D2 Quadra that's connected via FireWire 800. The old drive the files were on was on the verge of death and we were fortunate enough to get all the files moved to it before it finally conked out. Permissions on about 75% of the files were wrecked and the only complete fix was running a third party software application called Passenger (http://www.macinmind.com/?pid=2&progid=1&subpid=1). This was the only thing that worked in its entirety to get the permissions fixed.
    Thanks again for the info!

  • NEW Xeon weird issues

New to the forum here...but i am having strange problems with version 5.1.2 and the dual-core--just installed and when I create a disolve between clips it will sometimes do an extra stutter dissolve after the first dissolve when there clearly is no dissolve. Make sense? Plus when i apply a filter to a still it won't recognize that there is a filter in my timeline even though it shows as an attribute in the editor. Are these normal glitches with new version/system?
    Thanks!
    2 x2.66 ghz dual-core intel xeon   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1 gig 667 MHz

I haven't had time to take my phone in to the service centre, but I have tried reinstalling the firmware myself. Doesn't appear to have helped. The thing that's irritating me the most is that's it's refusing to let me give connectivity permission to things like Opera Mini. I can't connect to PC Suite either, as it gives me an error about a PC Suite settings file being missing (admittedly, that might just be due to it being an old version of PC Suite)
So, I'd just like to check... is there no "one-stop" way I can reinstall all the applications and other content myself, or will I have to go in to a service centre?

  • New Intel Xserve rebooting under network load

We added an Xserve before the end of the year (2006), and we added an Xserve RAID to it just this last week.
During the period before the RAID was installed, the Xserve was used lightly as a file server, mostly just enough for me to move some files around the office and start to get to know OS X Server.
With the RAID attached we've started to try using the system as we intend, which is to have a large common file repository where common files can be shared out to the several clients on the GigE network.
So far the results have been disappointing, the Xserve has shut down and reboot itself a few times during periods of active use. I searched this forum and found a suggestion to run memtest and I have that tool running right now on the server. The system has 2GB of RAM installed.
Is RAM a good place to start with crashes that seem to be related to network load? How else can I troubleshoot?
I've not yet called Apple, I hoped to get more info before standing on line in the phone queue.

    Wes Plate-
Something wrong there. My gut says hardware. When it
shuts down is it graceful or pow and off?
I'm not sure the exact answer. We were testing the migration to the Xserve and RAID when suddenly we noticed network connection to the server was gone. I went to the server room, the display on the Xserve was off and the two raided system drives were busy for a couple minutes, then the system rebooted.
Did you enable any other services when you attached
the RAID? Are you doing anything radically
    different.
I think the RAID is the only change. I've been reading up on how to do Open Director, DHCP, DNS and that stuff, but I don't know enough yet to actually do them.
Odd that nothing is in the panic log. Do you have
redundant power supplies? One of those heading south
and no backup PS could cause an immediate shutdown.
The Xserve does not have redundant power. Is that an upgrade I can do myself?
Memtest is good for rooting out errors, but you
should run it at east 10 times or so just to be
    sure.
    I just started a 10 times test.
Later today I'm going to test getting the RAID out of the configuration. We are trying to replace two firewire drives connected to one of our systems with shares on the RAID so everyone can access the files, so I plan to connect those firewire drives to the Xserve and then share them from there. Seems like a good test.

  • Solutions to Some DNS, OD, AFP, CalDAV, AFP, and Spotlight Issues

I recently upgraded our aging Xserve (1.3GHz G4, yeah baby!) to Leopard Server from Tiger Server so everything in the office would all be on the same OS. This server hosts all our in-use files via an Xserve RAID, and our dead files are on the internal 3-disk striped array. It's also the Open Directory master and hosts the office's DNS (I wanted to put OD and DNS on the new Xeon Xserve that hosts our FileMaker database, Retrospect backup, and our Squid web proxy, but something in its DNS configuration is broken and I gave up on that since OD and DNS don't really put any additional stress on the G4). Anyway, with all the hoopla of configuring, reconfiguring, and fixing, I've learned some things that may help others.
    *DNS, Open Directory, and AFP*
I had some trouble with groups and ACL permissions, inability to get CalDAV working, and general strangeness with OD and Workgroup Manager. Demoting the server from an OD master to standalone took care of most of these. Part of the problem was an incorrect LDAP search base, which can only be corrected by blowing away the OD master and making sure DNS is set up properly. We only have about 20 users (we don't host network homes or anything like that), so when I did the demotion I just let it destroy all the accounts, and after promoting the server back to an OD master, I recreated the users and groups from scratch. So with freshly created users and groups, and after resetting the ACL's and propagating permissions on the network shares, that cleared up the permissions problems. The corrected LDAP search base fixed the Directory application too, which wasn't showing any contacts before, and it got Kerberos working as well.
    iCal/CalDAV
All this work also got CalDAV/iCal calendar sharing running, and when I enable calendaring for a user, it stays enabled in WGM. Before, whenever I'd switch to another user and come back, calendaring would be turned off in WGM, although it was in fact still enabled. I haven't tested calendaring much yet, and adding an account in iCal is still a bit flakey. Our DNS is just internal, so in Server Admin I un-checked "fully-qualified" for our few DNS hostnames. If I mark the server's DNS hostname as fully-qualified, auto-discovery of the address in iCal won't work. iCal rejects my passwords if Kerberos authentication is used in either case, even if I manually point it to the IP address, but it connects fine without Kerberos.
    *Spotlight and AFP*
Another problem I had after upgrading the server was stale spotlight searches. I used Server Admin to turn spotlight searching on and off for the two shares, and I tried any number of mdutil commands and System Preferences "privacy" settings to turn indexing on and off and to rebuild the indexes. With the old machine and about a terabyte of data, indexing would take all night, so I couldn't really try a lot of things. Every time the index was rebuilt, it would propagate out to the office just fine, but it would never update from then on. The solution to that was changing the permissions on the volumes the shares are on. The shares themselves had the correct permissions and ACL's, but the volumes need their POSIX permissions set to:
    owner: root: read/write/execute
    group: admin: read/write/execute
    everyone: read/execute
Over the years those permissions had been changed (this server started out with OS X 10.2 Server btw, so there's been plenty of time for things to get b0rked), but Tiger Server apparently didn't care. Another thing I did (although I'm not sure if this was necessary) was to change the "Others" POSIX permission from None to Read Only. Once all that was changed, mdworker started chugging along to keep the spotlight index updated. However, it went nuts after the 10.5.6 Server update, constantly working with no sign of ever finishing. The update notes do make specific mention to Spotlight changes, which says you have to disable spotlight indexing for any shares in Server Admin, then re-enabled it to "take advantage of the new features." That started another night of indexing, but it's now done and updating properly. I noticed that a new inherited ACL for the user "Spotlight" showed up at the root level of each share point. I'm not going to touch that.
I'll admit that I hate spotlight's interface and lack of control in Leopard (i.e. it always resets your search parameters, you can't change the results window's columns, and you have to already be in the folder you want to search, etc.). That being said, I can search for anything on the server and it finds the results almost instantly. Even a search that returns "more than 10,000" results only takes about 5 seconds. With Tiger or Panther server, ANY search would take several minutes and grind the server to a halt, making anyone else who tried to save a file or navigate the shared volumes get the spinning beach ball.
Hopefully this will be of help to someone.

    Hi.
You've not outlined your issues with AFP per se, having any ?
DNS is critical for OS X Server, it's appropriately finicky about working forward & reverse DNS lookup for its FQDN.
Certainly, Leopard Server may make assumptions contrary to your intent, if using the non-advanced setups, as it will attempt to use DNS and if not available, this may result in settings other than you desire.
By default, hostnames entered in the Server Admin DNS settings, will be considered as part of the DNS zone you're editing.
    So:
    server
    would be for: server.yourfqdn.com
If you mark that as fully qualified, well, then it's looking for: server
    which is not a FQDN
As well, I believe Apple states it should no longer be necessary, but if you do need to change the hostname for your OD master, it is often possible via the Termina/command-line via:
    (sudo) changeip
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/Manpages/man8/changeip .8.html

  • Best Migration to New Xserve?

    Hi all,
We've just bought a new Intel Xserve to replace our existing G4 Xserve. In the past I've cloned the OS (using SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner), and that's worked fine. However, does anyone recommend doing a clean re-install and building from scratch? I'd like to keep server downtime to a minimum.
An additional consideration is that our IP is going to change soon when we upgrade to a T1 -- does that weigh in favor of a clean intall?

You cant and should not attempt to clone the existing G4 Xserve System onto your Intel XServe. The hardware is different and the OS reflects that.

You would have to do this because you cant do anything else. However as OS X Server is already pre-installed just go through the set up assistant but dont start any services apart from Apple Remote Desktop. If you are planning to substitute the old server with this one then try and keep the IP address the same (you will see why later on). Of course don’t connect it to the network with the existing active server as this will cause an IP address clash and cause problems, especially if you have any DNS dependent services running.
An additional consideration is that our IP is going
to change soon when we upgrade to a T1 -- does that
weigh in favor of a clean intall?
This would be the external IP? It should not or wont make a difference as any port forwarding services defined in the router will still point to your server regardless of which one it is provided the private IP address is the same.
On your existing G4 XServe, launch Server Admin and select a Service that you have running. Click on the Settings tab and just above the Save button you will see a small icon (looks a bit like a calendar leaf). Drag this icon to your desktop, this saves the service configuration as a property list (.plist), do this in turn for all Services running apart from Open Directory. Export any Users and Groups you have in Workgroup Manager and transfer them all over to your new Server. Import Users and Groups into WGM, you will have to define a Password Policy as passwords do not export. You can then configure Server Admin on your new server with the transferred .plists. Start with simple services first such as AFP, Print and Windows, then move on to DNS and DNS dependent services. Test DNS thoroughly before moving onto Mail, Open Directory Master etc etc.
