New zen micro not recognized by pc - help Christmas prese

The software installed perfectly - no problems. But now, I am getting message that the device is not being recognized by PC. Customer Support is closed for holiday and my daughter wants to try her new Zen Micro. What do I do now? This is the only computer we have and it is Windows XP 2002 version. Any advice? Thanks!

OK, that's good news.
Now we have to find out why the Zen & our computer aren't talking to each other.
From the NomadnessNet FAQ:
I have connection problems with my Zen, what can I do?
Here are some things to try if you have connection issues with your player:
. Reset the player and run a disk cleanup.
2. Install the latest drivers, firmware and application software. Download these from Nomadworld.com.
3. Try the player on ALL your USB ports and make sure you aren't using a hub.
4. Try some other transfer software (see the list above).
5. In Device Manager with the Zen connected delete it from the device listing. Physically disconnect the Zen from the USB cable, reset it, then reconnect to the PC to see if it is detected properly.
6. Test the player on another PC (ideally a different make), if possible. This will help determine where the problem lies i.e. with the player, or the PC.
7. Double check the files you are transferring. It's possible for the transfer to halt if the file is corrupt in some way, or the tag data within the file can't be read or is corrupt. The simple test is to try transferring a file that you know will work i.e. copy a file off the player, and then try transferring back to the player.
8. Try a replacement USB cable (ideal if you can borrow one from somewhere, or if you have another USB device that uses the same cable).
9. Check for BIOS and USB chipset updates.
0. Delete the USB ports in device manager, then reboot the PC to see if they are redetected with updated drivers.
. Make sure the player isn't locked.
2. Try going into Device Manager, update the driver manually by pointing it to C: Program FilesCreativeJukebox 3 Drivers.
3. If you are using a PCI USB card, try moving the card to all the other PCI slots in the PC.
4. Buy a known good PCI USB2 card from somewhere you can return it if it doesn't work i.e. the NEC USB chipset, typically used by Adaptec. Fit the card, and see if the player works with the ports on the card. Note that known problem chipsets include VIA, ALI, nForce and Intel, although it isn't clear if Creative and/or the chipset manufacturer are at fault.

I just bought a mac mini over the weekend. I saved items from my old G4 to an external hard drive. I go to plug in the external hard drive and the new computer is not recognizing it. Help.
Here is the information I have. The external hard drive is a 120GB Acomdata. It has both USB and Firewire. When I go to plug in to the mac mini through USB, it is not being recognized. When I switch to Firewire on the old computer I can see it, however when I go to USB it is not being recognized (even on the old computer).
I'm at a loss as to what to do. Any advice would be helpful.

Have you ever tried the FW 400 to 800 adapter?
I have used them on multiple occasions and they work just fine.
Try this (maybe you already have):
-Boot Mini with drive disconnected.
-Do not connect drive but turn it on
-wait a few seconds for drive to spin up
-plug cable into the Mini then into drive.
This is an old drive and may have some timing
issues.
I had an Acomdata drive a long time ago.  It
worked fine with FW but USB was flakey.

• Zen Micro not recognized on one PC but is fine with 2 oth

Before I get totally frustrated with my PC, not the new Zen Micro 6g, what could I be overlooking to get the software and the PC to recognize this unit's This PC has Windows XP (no service packs installed), and after restoring system and reinstalling the software, I have the same problem: I connect the Zen to the USB cable, it says "Found New Hardware" and then proceeds to want to reinstall the software and drivers again from the CD. Naturally, it should have picked up the installed software and drivers but it hasn't.
On my other 2 PCs, one with Win XP sp2 and the other, my Toshiba laptop with Windows Media Player 2005 Edition, no problems at all. Immediately recognized the player after installation of the software and drivers.
I am almost at the point of not bothering to install it on the last PC as it works on 2 out of 3 fine but I would like to find out what could possibly be the problem. The two towers are identically set up: same Intel865Perl mbs, same hardware - only difference is the OS.
I have unistalled and reinstalled, system restored a few times, and I give up.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks everyone. Oh, boy, I have a lot to search out, huh? Well, the chipsets are the same. The OS's are different though. I tried the USB from the mb....nothing. I do have an add-in card from Adaptec which is a dual connect card....contains 3 USB ports and 2 firewire ports. Nice card, usually works fine. All my other USB devices such as Canon camera, Sony camera, all work fine from both places. But, it might not like the Zen. Not sure why Zen wouldn't be compatible with an Adaptec USB card but I do know that Windows XP with no service packs does NOT recognize 2.0. just .. And I do get a message that states that I am connect a high-speed device with a non-high speed USB port. If that's the problem, why does it say "Found New Hardware" in the first place? And it does show up in Device Manager when connected, but with the yellow markings. It's listed under "Other Devices", and if I remove it, reboot and reconnect, the same message comes up asking me to install the drivers again.
I could upgrade this PC but I don't think that is going to make any difference, except that it will recognize the 2.0 USB ports.
I'm going to keep trying until I get it right. Any other ideas short of giving up?

• FAQ : Zen Micro Not Recognized by Xp & Wm

Hi all,
I was very unhappy these last 2 months because my Zen Micro firmware 2.xx was not recognized anymore by my laptop and Xp told me erverytime that I plugged my Zen that a new device was about to be installed.
Finally I found the solution by my own :
Choose
==> Install device
==> Specify a folder for drivers : \Windows\Inf
Then my player worked.
I don't know il this will be useful to anybody but it can help I think and you won't have to format just for such a problem (ps : I guess this technique works for any usb device not recognized and already installed or that does not need drivers)

In fact I struck while the iron was hot and added it to the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net here.

• Zen micro not recognized....out of commiss

hi everyone.
fi've hours later, i'm here begging for help.
i have the zen micro 5 mb and am running XP SP2.
i wanted to install the new firmware for the micro, seems easy enough....but when i plugged my player into my computer, it was not recognized. i see this has been a common problem, but nothing i've tried has been able to fix it. here's what i've done that have yielded no results:
. tried changing USB cables (3 different ones); made sure my USB 2. ports were working (they were); tried changing the cord among the 6 open USB ports i have
2. tried updating drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling all software - both from the creative website and my CD, as well as through the device manager. i tried uninstalling with the control panel and with the CD - nothin!
3. tried recovery mode, did everything i could in that mode...BUT, when I removed the firmware (i know it was a dopey thing to do), i can't reinstall cuz the computer doesn't recogize the player...so now the Micro is stuck in recovery mode (i can move around in the menu but I can't shut it down)
Any ideas? Is my micro dead?
Thanks!
roooo

I'm not sure... But what I will do by posting in this is bring this topic to the top so you get some help. But I did find a website today with help here: http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php...ad+Jukebox+Zen it should help your micro even though its a Jukebox FAQ.

• My new Zen Micro is recognized by my PC for a few seconds on

(It's the weekend and the helpline is closed). According to the messages I got during installation, all the drivers have been installed in their right location, nothing seems amiss, and when I connect the player to my PC I get the usual message, "New hardware detected" with the name of the player.
However, a few seconds later, I get the message, "A problem occurred during installation: your new hardware may not work properly". I also get the message, "A high speed device is connected to a non high speed hub" (I paraphrase here), and it then tells me that my hardware will work more slowly. I was aware of that, but I also know that devices using USB 2.0 *can* work with USB ..
I don't know what's going on. I've read this board and tried uninstalling and re-installing; I've also done a clean up of the player's HDD; I've even tried using a different USB cable. Still nothing. I'm puzzled by the fact that it *is* recognized for a few seconds when first connected.
Any ideas? I don't want to return it: I'm against the iPod on principle (no removable battery and exclusi've file format).

There's some general troubleshooting help here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
I would honestly suggest getting a PCI USB2 card. I appreciate it's spending more money, but they are cheap and it might solve your problem instantly (as well as speed up your connection).

• Zen Micro not recognized - 1 millionth complai

I've read scores of posts on this topic: my Zen Micro isn't recognized by my computer.
When I connect the player to my computer, I get a message that the "usb device is not recognized" and the player itself freezes and the only solution is to remove the battery.
I'm using the v2.-firmware. My pc uses WindowsXP Home Edition, SP2.
Things I've already tried:
- uninstalled and reinstalled the creative drivers and software
- downloaded every possible driver or software update the creative website has to offer for my OS
- tried another usb slot and another usb cable
- updated the usb drivers
- uninstalled the usb ports and reinstalled them
- in the hardware list, double clicked the "unknown device" that should be the player and tried to manually direct it to the correct drivers
- connected another Zen Micro to my pc, this one also isn't recognized
- connected my Zen Micro to another pc running Linux, this works!
- cleaned up the disk in the recovery menu
- went to the regedit menu, adjusted the permissions in hkey_local_machine>system>Enum
All of these were possible solutions I found online, but none of them work. I already contacted Tech Support through e-mail, but the only advice they give me are things I've already tried, even though I specifically mention the list of all the things I've already tried in EVERY e-mail I exchange with them.
One thing they also advized me to do, is to reload the firmware, but this is impossible since the computer won't recognize that the player is indeed connected to it.
The funny thing is, if I remove all the creative drivers and software and then reinstall it all, there's a slim chance of it working again -- temporarily. Sometimes the player is still not recognized, sometimes it gets recognized by the pc but not by the software, sometimes it'll work perfectly but only once. In this case, it'll work for just that moment but the next day, when I reconnect the player (without even rebooting the pc or anything) it'll just go back to the same old "usb device not recognized" message.
Is this the time when I'm officially allowed to get desperate?

Daniel,
thanks for your reply!
I'd already installed the hotfixes your referred to, but did so again - just to make sure. Unfortunately, the problem remains...
st time I connected the player after installing the hotfixes, I didn't get any "usb device not recognized"-message. The player was listed in Device Manager, but unfortunately the software still didn't acknowledge that a player was connected (I tried Creative MediaSource Organizer and Windows Media Player 0). Meanwhile, the player itself still freezes. You get as far as the "now playing" screen, but it doesn't go to the "connected" screen you're supposed to see when you've connected your player and you're going to transfer data. Again, the only way to shut down the player was to remove the battery.
2nd time I reconnected it, I suddenly got a "new hardware found" message. A few seconds later the pc reports that the new hardware is installed correctly and is ready for use, followed by the old "usb device not recognized" message. Player is frozen, as usual.
3rd time. Back to square one: player is frozen and I get the old "device not recognized" message again.

• Zen Micro, not recognized by co

Firstly, I can safely say, I am a novice at this sort of thing, so any help anyone can offer needs to be very easy to understand.
I have loaded the software provided, i can upload music to the media player, but what I cant do is download to the Zen Micro from the media player. I have formatted the mp3 player and removed the firmware. But when i tried to reload the updated firmware it didn't register my mp3 player.
so basically, how do I get mp3 player recognized by my computer so i can download tracks.
Help is appreciated as I got this as a Christmas present and as yet, have not been able to use it.
thanks

• Zen Micro not recognized by Creative software after firmware upgr

I had really old firmware, so I upgraded it to the latest version (2.2.02). Immediately after doing so, I noticed my Micro appears in Windows and is recognized by Windows Media Player (I'm using v0, not the new beta).
But it's not recognized by the Zen Micro Media Explorer or by the Creative MediaSource Organizer, which I was hoping to use to reconstruct my playlists easily. Explorer claims the player is not connected.
Upgrading my drivers (to .30.03) and Creative software (to 3.30.2) did not fix the problem.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

rs93,
You need to install the MTP plugin for MediaSource and also update your copy of the Zen Micro Media Explorer to a version that support the new firmware. All the above can be downloaded from the website.

• Zen micro not recognized.. reform

so my zen micro is no longer recognized by my pc at home or at work..
i have firmware .0.03 installed from nomadworld and everythings been working fine for weeks. the player still works (music) but the removeable disk doesn't (not recognized by pc). is it worth it to go into rescue mode and reformat the whole thing? i don't want to lose all of my music (its backed up on my pc) and still not have my device be recognized
yelp!

Jess,
The PlayForSure firmware is intended to work with Windows XP platform. If you're going to work with other OS, I would suggest you to reload the firmware to the other firmware version .xx.xx. You can find this firmware from the download page too. Note that you need to perform this update process on your XP computer.

• Zen Micro - Not Recognized, multitude of proble

So, this is fun...
I bought a Zen Micro, it was bad from the getgo.
I RMA it. They send me a refurbed one.
My computer won't recognize it, I called them...they say to RMA it, and tell me they will load firmware 2.20.05 on it.
I RMA it. They send me...
The same one. Serial number and everything. I call them up, they say they sent me the same one because it didn't have anything wrong with it... Okay, it has the basic basic basic (0.0.65), my computer won't recognize it with the driver installed. I tried it on another computer, same dead end. When I turn it on it boots into recovery mode...occassionally it will "dock" but still won't be seen by my computer.
I've tried the KB article SID0053 like they suggested...that's fine. I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm hoping one of you have had this exact same experience, and can help me out. Any ideas?

jabman, does it appear in Device Manager? If so there could be several solutions:
) Download the following 3 hotfixes:
Windows Media Format 9.5 Runtime:
<a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922' target=_blank>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;8922
DRM performance fix:
<a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;902344' target=_blank>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;902344
Fix for large data transfers:
<a href='http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;89536' target=_blank>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;89536
2) Open up Task Manager, click on Processes. Look for the name wdfmgr.exe. If it is not listed then. Start, Run, cmd. Type sc start umwdf. Open up Task Manager and verify that wdfmgr.exe is listed.
3) Finally is a registry fix:
Start, run, regedit
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
Right click that and select Permissions
In the box at the top click on the name Everyone, if its not listed then click on Add. Type the name Everyone into the box on the bottom and click Ok.
On the part below click on the checkboxes under the Allow column for Full Control and Read.
Also do the same for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB
Click Ok to close that window and close off the Registry Editor.
Hopefully it will work now, also before doing any of those, make sure you are on an Administrator account.Message Edited by DM on 2--2005 2:28 PM

• Zen Micro Not Recogni

I recently updated the firmware on my Zen Micro in an attempt to fix some problems. It worked, but since that time the Zen Micro Media Explorer (ZMME) program has not recognized my player (says it's not connected -- it is). As suggested in many other other posts, I downloaded the Micro Media Explorer Web Update (dated 07/3/05), but that changed nothing. Is there something else I can do? I have been using WMP to transfer music, but I don't really like it as well as the ZMME, so I'd love to fix the problem.
Thanks.
- Chloe

Thanks for the reply. Yes, MediaSource was/is working and I believe I downloaded everything that I "should" have. In any event, I solved the problem by uninstalling EVERYTHING (software, device, etc) and starting fresh. I went a little further with this process than I had before and it worked. Took forever though. I hope never to have to do it again.

• Zen Micro not recognized by computer AND battery is dead

I have read thru the boards, and I can't do any of the suggested ideas because my Zen battery is completely dead. I cannot charge it, as the computer does not recognize the player when it is attached. Does this mean that I need to buy a new battery, and then go from there? I do not have an adapter, just a usb cable.
I have a zen micro and an IBM compat. computer, Windows XP. I'm fairly sure that I have the latest firmware update...but is there a way to verify that?
Thanks!

The computer doesn't need to recognise the player if you are using a later firmware, such as ..0. You lock the player before connecting, then it should charge. Or you can put it in USB storage mode.

On the player you go to System > Information. The latest v firmware is ..0.
