New Zen Microphoto is skippi

I received a brand-new Zen microphoto for christmas, purchased from Amazon, and I'm having problems.
I have a PC with ample computing power (use it for pro audio applications) and a functioning USB connection. All songs I put on the player "skip". i.e. in random spots it sounds like? the song jumps forward slightly. It changes to different spots when I replay the same song. I reset the players, formatted it, updated the firmware, and the problem persists.
Anyone else have a similar problem or ideas on resolution? Thanks.

had problems with WMA as well....not sure how that should help if it is advertised to run wma, mp3 and wav files up to 320kb
ps.

  • New Zen MicroPhoto not seen by XP or Vi

I'm a total newbie to Creative MP3 players. Just got one yesterday from Electronica Direct via Amazon's store. Running Vista on an HP Pavilian dual core (just 3 months old so very new cutting edge hardware) and running XP on a 5 year old Sony Vaio laptop. Both have latest MS service paks and security fixes.
Also, I appear to be running latest Creative stuff since when I check for updates it reports it doesn't find any. The Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer reports v5.0.2 and:
Creative Import Wizard File (Version .0.25.0)
Creative Audio CD Ripper (Version 5.00.20)
    Creative Sync Manager (Version 5.20.09)
    Creative Playlist Wizard (Version 3..5.0)
    PIM Editor (Version .3.0.0)
Creative Media Explorer reports on both PCs when Zen MicroPhoto plugged into USB:
"Your player is not connected. Please connect your Zen MicroPhoto to the computer."
I can play the music that comes with the Zen. I have used the supplied cable to plug into various USB ports on both PCs. Each time the Creative Media Explorer reports it doesn't see anything.
Under System info the MicroPhoto reports it is version .20.0.
If I unplug the USB plug from the MicroPhoto and then plug it in the MicroPhoto starts itself up. So does that mean it is seeing something electrically from the PC?
In both XP and Vista if I try to close the Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer clicking on the red X does not close it.
In the HP Vista Device Manager under Portable Devices I only see:
    USB CF Reader
    USB MS Reader
    USB SD Reader
    USB SM Reader
Right clicking and doing "Scan for hardware changes" does not help.
In the HP Vista Device Manager under "Uni'versal Serial Bus controllers" I see Intel chips, a USB Mass Storage Device and a bunch of USB Root Hub entries. No Creative device. Also, doing "Scan for hardware changes" does not help in this category either.
Similarly, I do not see the Zen MicroPhoto in the XP Vaio's Device Manager. The Vaio XP Device Manager does not show a "Portable Devices" entry in the main list.
Also, the Vaio's original USB ports are v.. If plug into one of them I can power up the MicroPhoto. The Vaio also has PCMCIA USB 2.0 extender ports and they appear not to provide enough power to start up the MicroPhoto. Does the MicroPhoto need USB 2.0?
I am open to suggestions for things to try...

Bump... I am having issues with duplicate tracks and allt he other crap that goes with mediasource...any help to get my explorer back would be appreciated.

  • New Zen MicroPhoto Big Probl

I only purchase my MicroPhoto last saturday and i took it home to do a charge, at the same time i loaded in the new firmware .20.0 and left it charged until it's fully charge.
The next morning i turned it on and to my surprise, it cannot turn on! So i immediately went to my computer and plugged in the USB cable into the player and the batt is actually empty! So i left it charged and reloaded the firmware but this time the batt life only dropped to half even if it's turned off! Now the batt life it extremely short (around less than 6 hrs of playback) and somemore the player is new!
My another friend told me it may be the firmware fault that causes the batt life to drain drastically even if it's off. I called Creative and told them the situation and they told me to bring my unit down to do a check.
So has any here experienced this or any other thing i can do? Pls advice...

Well my brother just bought a zen microphoto here 2 weeks ago. I've already taken the time to test the battery life of his player.. I run audio files from 28 to 92 no higher no less than 28.. My recorded battery life before the player shut off was 24 hours and 3 minutes, so give and take here I could go to 22 hours and be safe. On fm, part my battery life was a bit higher since no hdd was accessed i was getting 29 hours 22 minutes, so once again give and take 27 hours be safe to charge..
TO fill in how I did this, I took a stop watch, digital. Had my brother press start at the same time as i hit play, to make it fair. So pertty much my battery life is as about accurate as my player can get...
Holy crap DOA, how did you get such a long battery life? I recently tested my microphoto and i got just under 0 hours. I had it on 2 volume, bass boost was off, smart volume was on, and i never used the screen. Did you use usb or power adapter to charge yours?

  • Creative Zen MicroPhoto: How can I look at the Playli

    Hi!
I have a small question about my new Zen MicroPhoto: While I hear music I often add new songs, lots of songs. So I can read "playing 3 of 42" or something else. How can I take a look on the songs which are following? I want to see the acti've playlist, so that I can see "Ah, three songs later there will be song "blablabla".
    Is this possible somehow?
    Thanks!Message Edited by san_salvador on 04-4-2006 04:4 PM

    san_salvador,
When you're at the Now Playing screen, tap the scroll pad again and it should show you the list.

  • Zen Microphoto Pixel Problems (Red Li

OK, so I have a BRAND NEW Zen Microphoto and ever since I first turned the thing on I have this RED LINE (about pixel wide) running vertically down the middle of my screen. It's like you can still see what's there behind it if you look closely.
I actually had gotten it go away for a little while, and it has come back and has been there since. So I don't believe there is damage to the actual OLED screen, but who knows I'm no professional here!!
Other than the annoying line the player seems to be working fine.. but like I said, its ANNOYING.
I have tried a few things to fix it.. I've formatted it and rebooted it from Recovery Mode.. I've TRIED to update the firmware, but I can't seem to get the Firware Update to connect to my Microphoto. Windows, Windows Media Player, and Creative MediaSource Organizer reads it being there.. yet NOT the Firmware Update. Actually I THINK I got WIndows to update the Firmware for me or something because accorinding to my Microphoto it already has that version on there?
If anyone has any suggestions, or heard of this happening PLEASE let me know. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I looked all over the place to find one, and when I finally did I'm having problems with it!
    Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem with my Zen Microphoto. There is a vertical red line in the display. It appears to be pixel in width extending the height of the screen, top to bottom. EXTREMELY annoying!
What is Creative's policy to fixing this?

  • Need serious help with my Zen Microphoto

My Zen Microphoto controls are messed up. evrytime i try to use the vertical pad it actually forwards me to the next song. When i press back to return to the previous menu, instead of doing that it played music that i did not even select?
I REALLY need some help here!!! Its a new Zen Microphoto bought only for a month....

What did you do to control the senstivity of the touchpad. Do you set it to low or med or high I tried all, it is very upsetting not to be able to master something as simple as this. I love the player I just got it yesterday the sound is beautifull although I accidently had it turn to high when it started to play.
    Need a reply
    thanks:womanwink:

  • Zen MicroPhoto first time connection proble

I recieved my new Zen MicroPhoto in the mail yesterday, whereupon I installed the software it came with and hooked it up via USB to charge. The USB connection is quite sensiti've, but I can get the player to charge.
However, when I tried to add some songs, the Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer (which the user guide tells you to open) says at the top that my player is not connected. The USB is plugged in exactly the same was as though to charge it but it won't be recognized by the Media Explorer. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is it only possible to add or remove songs when the player is fully charged?
Most of these posts are from people who were able to upload songs initially but are having problems down the road. I saw tips about reinstalling firmware on the player and other things, but as the player is brand new it seems unlikely that it is corrupted. I already tried reinstalling the software it comes with on my computer, just to check.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I installed all of the software on another computer in my house and the player was recognized and I was able to copy some files onto it.
The problem could be with my USB's or the bits of software I omitted when installing it. Right now I'm uninstalling everything and going to reinstall it later this evening. If it doesn't work then, I'll be back. My computer is updated and so is my Windows Media Player.
    The end.

  • Zen Microphoto - Help Me, people

    Hi all.
My daughter bought a new Zen Microphoto 2 days ago.
It worked fine from setup, loads of music and picture files were transferred to it, BUT
it seems to have failed to recharge, and has twice defaulted to the reboot/reformat/etc screen.
If I move the button to "on" it powers up long enough to see said screen, but not long enough to do anything with it.
    Any ideas ?
If no one can think of what might be going wrong, can you think of a way of downloading the songs to a "safe" dri've, or making absolutly sure that the battery is charging ?
I have 24 hours to sort this out - cos then she goes away on camp - or not, if her Zen isn't working, apparantly ...

Hi everyone,im new to the forum so i hope this hasnt been posted before (i have searched)...well i ordred a zen microphoto in black on amazon.co.uk couple of days ago. I am now looking around for a suitable case to keep it in. I will be keeping it my uni bag alot so i thoguth a lether case would be better then a silicone cover...
i was wondeirng if the normal zen micro cases would be ok for the new zen microphoto or are these not suitable...also i found this on the uk creative shop http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/product.asp?prod=07 looks good for the price but again its for the zen micro...how can i find out if its suitable for the zen microphoto?
    well hope someone can help...

Finally got the case, I really think its a lot better than other options available at local stores for $20. I paid $30 including shipping, and the quality of it is very good. Only complaint is it does indeed cut off the top of the screen, but you can tilt it and see the time if needed. Viewing photos is the major problem because the top is cut off. The case holds the ZMP very nice and snug, and buttons have fairly easy access. There is a nice screen protector, and the keypad is left uncovered. The case uses two thin magents sewn inside the external flaps which provides a nice enclosure. Sorry don't have a camera so can't take pics, but I do recommend it.

  • ZEN Microphoto set

Hi, I'm trying to install the software for my new Zen Microphoto. My my CD-Rom dri've doesn't allow me to access the disk. I know the disk is ok as I was looking at the files on it on another computer. Also the dri've is working fine with other CDs as I have tried them out on it. It just seems to have problems with the set-up disk I'm using. I'm on XP home edition with service pack 2. My CD-ROM/DVD dri've is an TSST Corp CDRW/DVD TSH492B.
Anyone else ever have these problems?

I believe the ZMP ships with MTP firmware, so as long as Windows Media Player 0 is installed it shouldn't need any drivers. You can download MediaSource from the download page, click the link Support > Downloads on this page.
I've not heard of a problem CD for a long time, but support will always replace this if you contact them (unless there's an issue with your dri've).

  • Zen Microphoto: connection probl

My new Zen Microphoto was connecting to my winXP SP2 machine just fine (no drivers needed) until today, when i decided I would install creative mediasource (newest version from the website). As soon as the install started up, it told me my player wasn't detected, and then since then, I haven't been able to get either of my computers to recognize the player. I'm now thinking: this is a player problem, right? So I formatted. No go. Then i hit "reload firmware" from the recovery screen and it says something like reload firmware using usb. My computer still says it's an unknown USB device. What am I supposed to do now?

Ouch. Reload firmware was a bad thing to choose as it actually deletes the firmware on the player (Creative REALLY need to rename this option).
Now you need to find a firmware for the player, and make sure it's detected by XP properly to reload. You'll need to use reload OS again to prepare the player.
If you can't find a firmware in the download section, which is entirely possible as the player is very new, you'll need to contact Creative support to get one.

to use the player with the usb port you will need to add music files to the removable disc area of the player & when you connect the player to the stereo it must be in removable disk mode for the car stereo to read the files. If the car has a AUX input on the front you can buy a cord like this one? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...duct_id=820445 connect it using the headphone jack on the player. The removable disc mode gives the better sound quality. Can you post a link for your model car stereo?

  • How do I convert Itunes purchases to my ZEN MicroPhoto??

Okay, I had an Ipod mini and I went through three of them in the warranty time. I was sorely dissappointed with it, but I got a Creative Labs ZEN microphoto for Christmas and I love it. The only problem is that I have all this music that I downloaded from Itunes and I would love to be able to listen to it on my ZEN. I would still like to keep downloading from Itunes because it's the easiest and most legal downloading site that I have found. I know there are converters online, but I can't ever tell if it's legal or it will work. Does Apple have anything (hopefully free) that converts Itunes for my new ZEN???

Are you saying that iTunes downloads are only compatible with iPod's? That in order to play an iTunes download on anything but an iPod involves either illegal conversion or first burning it to a CD? I, too, just received a Zen Vision M and nowhere in the download, signup or anything else process did I see any mention of the fact that iTunes is not compatible with other software/hardward. Yes, the CD conversion trick works but for the aggrevation and lost time it's cheaper to drive to the store and buy the real thing.

  • Creative Zen Microphoto 8GB hangs

    Hello,
I have seen a lot of posts on the same subject here, but have not seen any resolution yet.
I am sure the story sounds familiar... hangs at "Creative" logo, I go into recovery mode, and run scan disk or format etc... They don't work. I have even left the player on "formatting" overnight until the battery drains and it never finishes, same goes for "Scanning".
I am on my 4th player now and am having the same issue again. This time the player is now out of warranty so I can't return it, and I am not paying money out of my own pocket to get this thing fixed. Please don't tell me this product is defecti've... I don't buy that excuse. And it isn't a corrupt file, because a reformat would fix that.
Once it hangs, my computer won't recognize it, so I can't even try to update the firmware or anything.
Any new updates or information on this issue? It is obviously a well documented problem...just google "Creative zen freezes" and see how any hits you get!
I am pretty disappointed with this player. I should have followed my gut instinct in the first place, and just bought an iPod. I spent a lot of money on this paper weight. Any help, advice, prayers,or donation$ (for a new iPod) would ge greatly appreciated!

Right you will need to download the latest firmware from this site.
Here is a hyperlink to where you can download the firmware:

You might have to put some details in.
Once you have downloaded the latest firmware just start the program up.
Plug in your Zen into the PC and then press the "Reload Firmware" button on your Zen.
You should see your computer screen pick it up.
Then you click on your PC to install firmware.
