YEA for Creative but I have a question about:
NOTE: This release does not support all types of subscription-based online music services. There will be a future firmware release where all Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) 0 features will be supported.NOTE: This release does not support all types of subscription-based online music services. OK Fine, but what DRM 0 features does it support NOW and does it support ANY "MusicToGo subscriptons" AT THIS TIME? Like Napster or F.Y.E. or.........
Please provide more details even if not a guaranteed answer, so fustrated with not enough information.
Thanks and keep up the great work on the Zen Micro

I also wondered what this line meant. I guess it means it doesn't support any new formats over and above that which it supported already i.e. it supports the normal WMA DRM but not the newer Janus DRM which Napsters subscription service uses.

  • Petition: PlayForSure/MTP firmware for Zen 2

    Hi folks,
Rather than leaving this relati'vely new player in the cold, I'm sure folks would like to see a PlayForSure/MTP firmware for it.
    So what do you think?

We're not talking about the Sleek, this is the Zen 20Gb.

It maybe considered new to non Asian countries but in Spore, Zen 20GB is considered a old model as compared to Zen Vision and Zen Vision:M
It's still relati'vely new though, compared to players like the Touch and Xtra.
Very often I wonder about creative marketing strategy. Why issit some models are released predominantly in say Asia Pacific region and some in the US and Europe and not in Asia Pacific or vice versa?
Any idea why? Different models developed in different countries? I understand besides the development labs in Spore, creative has some development labs elsewhere and this result in different model releasing at different time?
I'm not sure that players are developed outside of Singapore. It does seem that Singapore has some different ideas to what folks are used to in Europe and the USA, in terms of releasing a consistent and stable range of players. Also releasing players to fix bugs in earlier players is not considered good form in Europe and the USA.
I think each region has very clear control over what they release, hence the variation.

  • PETITION: Update to the Zen Micro MTP Firmw

I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who has this issue but I would like Creative to fix the bugs in the Zen Micro MTP firmware. I used this version for half a day. In that span, the computer froze three times and I had to re-install the device twice. In lieu of this, I think Creative really needs to review this firmware as it caused major problems for me (and maybe other users). The new firmware update could also include what users want most......an always visible clock and a more accurate battery indicator.

99+ % of MP3 files, that is. Some Sony Ericsson cell phones actually support a DRM version of MP3 (possibly proprietary, but I think it's an Open Mobile Alliance feature available to all cell-phone makers), largely to help carriers block the phone's ability to use ordinary MP3 files as ringtones, and thus force users to buy ringtones from carrier-approved sites. (Vodafone in the UK does this regularly, but Cingular, the only US national carrier that regularly sells Sony Ericsson, didn't with my phone.)
Sony Ericsson used to provide a "DRM Packager" freely to developers to insert DRM into MP3 ringtones; phone hackers discovered it and bypassed Vodafone's locks by using it to make their own DRM'ed MP3's for download to their phones. Sony Ericsson eventually took it down, though warez sites still carry it, and presumably some real developers can still get it. (No, I won't tell how to get it; I'm not about to be banned.)
Of course, this DRM isn't approved by the major labels for anything other than ringtones (and isn't supported by anything but cell phones), so obviously any MP3 file that gets near a Micro, or any other stand-alone MP3 player, isn't DRM'ed.

  • Is Zen Micro Firmware for PlayForSure (MTP) availab

    Hi,
I have just got a Zen Micro and noticed there is a MediaSource Plugin available for PlayForSure devices.
This requires Firmware 2.00.2 or above.
Is this available for the Zen Micro? ( The downloads section makes the plugin available but not the required firmware).

  • New Zen need a new firmware upd

I was looking for some solution to some problems I encounter with the new Zen 8gb
. I notice that when you turn on the device it flicker and the Zen display Flicker after it is on.
But here is a list of suggestion I found on line that I agree needed to be added to a new firmware.
I also bought the new Zen 6gb.
The new Zen Firmware should include
    * Add bookmarking ability to video
    * add more book marks
    * Integrate SD card into the main library like ever other player
    * MSC/MTP Option
    * More Codec Support: OGG, FLAC, ect...
    * Nati've video support like the Zen Vision:M (dont know if this is possible, but it would be nice)
    * ability to copy from SD to main memory and back
    * FM Recording

So you are changing from 32 bit to 64 bit? Are you likely to move up to 4GB RAM or more at any time in the future? If so you have three choices:
    1. bin the extra RAM
    2. if you stay on a 32 bit system, recompile your kernel
    3. install a 64 bit system and be done with it
I am writing from my brand new 64-bit install (put the new motherboard in this pm )
fwitiw, I've got a separate home partition as well as one for multimedia and a few more for other personal and business stuff. My / is pretty much on its own so using another system is no bother - it looks the same, smells the same, heck, it even tastes the same. One difference I noticed though was that when I click on openoffice I can't even say Gorden Bennett before the whole suite is up! Like shit off a shovel

  • Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware 2.00

When installing the new firmware update version 2.00.2 on my Zen Micro, the Zen Micro Explorer and the Creative MediaSource Applications do not recognize the device when it is plugged in. I installed the software Update Package (v.00.) for 'Zen Micro Players with PlaysForSure/MTP Firmware' and I am experiencing the same results. I had to revert the player back to PDE Firmware v.0.03.
Please update forum if experiencing the same thing or have suggestions.

MediaSource won't work with the new v2 firmware, you can only use WMP and the updated version of the Zen Micro Media Explorer. I believe it does say this in the readme associated with the new firmware.

  • New Zen 8GB crashed during firmware update; now I can't get it to reboot or connect to a compu

I went and exchanged my "problematic white screen" ZEN 8GB for a new one this evening. When I came home, I attached the new unit to my computer and started to perform the required firmware upgrades. The upgrades downloaded fine, but after the installation started, they seemed to freeze. I waited for an hour before I did anything, but finally had to assume that the update had malfunctioned and would never finish on its own. At that point I clicked "cancel" in the window monitoring the upgrade installation, and thought I could just start the process anew. Unfortunately, my computer no longer recognizes the ZEN when it's plugged into a USB port.
I rebooted my computer, just in case that was the problem, but it still can't find the ZEN when searching for devices to AutoUpdate. As for the Zen itself, I can turn it on and off, but the screen remains black (i.e., no info on screen). If I reset it, the screen flashes the word "Creative" only. If I try to do a Recovery, I can't get any text to appear on the screen. I can't even reformat the ZEN via my computer because they're no longer speaking. I assume that the interrupted firmware installation caused this problem, and that the ZEN just doesn't have enough of an operating system installed to work properly. Is there any fix for this that I can tackle myself Or, is it back to the store to return this one, too I have noticed a lot of white screen flashings as I've been working with the new ZEN, so perhaps this just wasn't meant to be. Any words of advice are certainly appreciated, however.

Same happened to me and I only had the thing a few hours. I may leave it connected overnight to see if the battery needs charging but if nothing happens it's going back. I've tried plenty of suggestions. The Creative screen flashes on when I plug it in but then just sits there. Reseting does nothing and how can you do anything to it if it's not recognised by the PC. Vista did see it before the update attempt. Wondered whether to throw XP back on.
Do I have to resort to the new ipod Nano
OK I've done it. Somewhere on this forum it said to disconnect the Zen from the PC.
Now at the same time, press and hold the play/pause button, put a pin into the reset button and hold down the on/off switch (yes all 3 in that order at the same time). Recovery mode came on and I tried to uninstall the firmware update from previously - it didn't do it but I updated the latest firmware again anyway and this time it worked. I guess the last attempt didn't take.

  • New Zen Micro is detected by windows but not software - I have NOT done firmware upda

Hi, I just bought a brand new Zen Micro. The software installation went fine.
After plugging in the unit to my USB port, a message appears on the windows taskbar saying "Nomad Jukebox 2/3/Zen Detected".
I would assume this is the normal message. I then attempt to transfer files via Creative Mediasource. Howerver when I load up the creative mediasource software, I get an error message saying "Player is not connected". Naturally of course the Zen Micro is indeed connected. I can not transfer any files and the player locks up.
I have not updated the firmware or anything, it is a fresh out of the box brand new unit. I run Windows mediaplayer 0, windows XP (SP).
Is there a way to resolve this issue, or am I doing something wrong?
Please help a new zen micro user thanks in advance!

I also Just, few hours back fully charged my Micro and got it working. I downlaoded the latest firmware released in Feburary. But i decided il only use it if something was wrong with the player. Mine went smooth....
Fully charged it while installing the software on the CD, unplugged the AC, I didn't sue the White USB cable it came with (lots of people say tis crap) So i sued my Sony Digicam USB cable which is always connected to my pc anyway.
Plugged my player into the USB cable while the player was On.
Done.... Windows Xp Pro detected it, 2 icons in My Computer popped up, One was the shortcut to the media source software and one was the player itself kinda liek a removable dri've.
My firmware is .0.30 and opening Widnows Media player 0, and hit Synch Tab, my player responded, and said Docked. And within 5 minutes most of my music was on....
I dotn get how some othe rpeoples players are playign up so much.
Maybe only people who have problems ever post so it seems like everyones having a problem. lol
Oh and i would recommend not to do a firmware update unless soemthings wrong wiht ur player. I wont risk it if i were you.

  • New Zen Firmware Prob

I got my New Zen today and I played it for two hours. Now I got a very problem. It appeared Firmware problem. I can not turn it off and everything does not work even I reset it. I try to use new firmare but I can not do anything because the firmware problem made New Zen dead. How can I do for this problem It's very sad that I just got a New Zen.

Then you might have a serious problem, because the install should just take a few seconds and a partially installed firmware can break the player.
    Are you under warranty?

  • New ZEN Firmware after sept 2008 : Dream or realit

I guess the ZEN is now considered as an old product for the CREATIVE's engineers...
Do you think a new ZEN firmware with few enhancements (like SD integration) could be possible after sept 2008 ?

No, that's the end of the line.
This has been the pattern of Creative in the past. Release a bunch of new firmwares in the first several months, then stop. There hasn't been new firmware since February.
So much for SD integration and a proper resume function.

  • Cannot upgrade firmware on new Zen

So, I've got the new 6gb zen, I have XP SP2, installed wmp, then installed the software that came with the player, got the upgrades from creatives website... went to upgrade the player... "player not connect" - connect player (it charges so IS connected) and nothing.
Done all the usual, uninstalled everything, re-installed it all and nothing has changed.
I cannot see the Zen at all on my PC.
Also I note, creatives knowledge base states "DO NOT connect your player to your PC before setting up the software. "
Where as microsoft website says "If you have a Creative ZEN device, make sure the device has the latest firmware before you install Windows Media Player " So what do I do first If your in cahoots with each other, at least state corresponding advice.
    ANy advice
    Cheers
ps, BIG complaint on having to use windows media!! Why doens't the new Zen come with a complete software package, I bought creative as all their other products had excellent software with the player.... are creative in cahoots with microsoft
I always praised creative on all thier products.... had soo much grief with apple and was happy to come back to creative after 3 years of hell with an ipod, and now creative do this It's unbelievable.

Earlier this week I had the same problem with a used Zen Micro 5GB that I purchased. After hours of the same problem, I finally remembered what I had to do when installing some newer Creative Players earlier this year.
One way is to revert back to Windows Media Player 0 by removing the WMP and the WMP Runtime . Then install the firmware. That's what worked for me this time.
The other method was to revert to WMP 0 (using the above method) and also removing all the Creative software installed on my computer (using add/remove programs), Then the computer recognized the new players. After installation, I was able to put the Creative software back on my computer and everything then worked. At a later date, WMP 0 asked if I wanted to install new updates and without thinking, I clicked yes and then I had WMP back and everything still worked.
Hope this helps you. I found some of the information in the tutorials on the Support page on this site and other information on fixya.com (an Internet site for fixing all sorts of MP3 Players including Creative.)
You know, it shouldn't be this hard to get a player running, as most people buying their first players aren't very computer literate. I remember when purchasing my first Zen Micro several years ago, I was completely snowed as to what to do when I couldn't hear the music on start up. Of course then I locked up the player and spent a long time trying to figure out what happened. I can see why so many people think they got a lemon, and return their players.

  • Suggestion for renaming new Zen 4GB/8GB/1

Just bought myself a new "Zen 4GB". I think Creative should rename it to "Zen Paperclip". Seem i
need to reboot it several times (7 times in 2 days). Talk about product quality issues. What
    a waste of $30.
No mention on the box either that it doesn't support UMS - how many media players out there don't
act as a mass storage devices these days. Even my old 3rd gen ipod can be mounted on my Linux box
as a disk and i can copy files onto it and play. Maybe even "Zen Microsoft" as a name ?
My wife's calling it the "Zen paperweight" - it's too light for even that job...
Off to the Apple store.. The new iTouch looks nice. Well it doesn't have a SD slot, but that doesn't
work too well according to this list, and no radio, but i can browse the web, and have a lot more apps
    soon, maybe even internet radio.
    Bad Creative, bad..

I was not comparing a 4GB model with a 8GB iTouch which is their base model iTouch. So there's only $00 in it if you compared 8gb with 8gb. Plus you are looking at much better features and stability on the apple (or so my friend tells me). Half the so called features on the Zen don't work very well, and i'm not the only one. Look at this very forum.
    >Who told you that you can't use the ZEN as an USB Storage Device? Mine works fine this way.
I told you. I have one, and it doesn't support UMS. You cannot plug it into a Mac or Linux and see the device. You are limited to MTP support only ! If you give your player to someone else who doesn't have the MTP driver installed in windows it will NOT work as a plain storage device. Try it before you respond.
And no i don't disconnect it while it's docked when it decides to crash/hang. Even if i did i'd consider it a bug in the firmware nevertheless.Message Edited by terraforma on 0-4-20072:46 PM

    2. Close all application windows that are currently running on your computer.

The update does in fact appear to have been successful. System > Information reports the firmware as being .00.6 and powering on the device now reinstates Bluetooth conectivity.
