Newb Keyboard and mouse question?

Hello,
I recently got 2 used Sun systems: an Ultra 2 Creator and a Storedge A1000. I have the boxes but no cables whatsoever. I also got an Apex Sun Trap, which hopefully will let me hook up the Sun boxes to my PC monitor and keyboard/mouse.
I just ordered a 13W3 M/M cable which should connect to the Sun Trap.
Now I just need to get the keyboard and mouse under control. From what I understand I need an 8-pin miniDIN. Is this the same cable that Mac printers use? Can I just use a Mac printer cable? Or do I need something special? Anyone know of a place that sells 8-pin miniDIN cables on the cheap?
Thanks in advance,
David

Hello.
As far as I know (old ?) MAC computers used the same connectors.
For KB & MS you do not need a cable of a high quality because only a low data rate (1200 baud) is used.
But be careful:
By disconnecting a keyboard from a Sun and re-connecting it the workstation may go into "ok-prompt" mode (stop the OS).

  • Mac wireless keyboard and mouse question

I have a Mac wireless keyboard and mouse.  Can they be used with any computer other than an Apple product?

Yes.   Equally, you can use any other mouse with an Apple computer.  Having said that, there may be the odd exception but it would be an exception.

  • Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Questions

I am now running this brand new iMac with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, which is great. I want to know if it is possible (or recommended) to turn off the battery in these two things while the CPU is asleep. Every time I put it to sleep and switch off one of these things, it springs back to life.
Also, what kind of lifespan do these batteries have? I bought the charger and two batteries with the computer, FYI. Thank you.

Yes, I would just leave the mouse and keyboard turned on. Way too much trouble to do otherwise. Well, about battery life. I've found that the batteries in this wireless keyboard that came with this iMac have a very long battery life. I think the originals lasted about 5 months. On the other hand, the Magic Mouse has an appetite for batteries. It magically eats them. For me, alkalines last about 3 weeks and lithiums last about 5 weeks. I would not recommend the lithiums due to the much greater expense.
I just, today actually, bought the Sanyo eneloop batteries and charger. It came with 8 AAs and 4 AAAs and seemed like a good deal. These are fairly well recommended but I'll reserve judgement until I try them myself.
So did you buy the new Apple rechargeables? I bet they are pretty good too. Let us know.
    Regards,
    Steve M.

  • IBM Wireless keyboard and mouse question

Hi, does anyone know whether the wireless IBM keyboards work with the G4s? simply plugging in the wireless transceiver/receiver and the mouse works no problem, but they keyboard is dead. Attempts to have the mac recognize the keyboard signal do not work. Any ideas?

What is the exact model number(s) for the keyboard/mouse?

i know the mighty mouse isn't wireless (hense me asking if i could use a wired mouse with a wireless keyboard)...plus, i like the look of the mice and have never had trouble using them, and now that it has a scroller and left and fight click, that will make the switch from windows to mac even easier

  • IMac with Wireless Keyboard and Mouse question

My mouse doesn't do anything when I right click. It is a standard wireless mouse, how can I get it to right click?

The Apple Wireless Mouse doesn't have a right click button. To access the right click menu, hold down the Control key, and click the mouse wherever necessary.

  • Keyboard and Mouse for Mac mini Question

I'm trying to convince my mom to buy a mac and she's probably going to get the cheaper mac mini.
Question about the keyboard and mouse. Does it have to be apple? She doesn't want to spend more money on a keyboard and mouse, so can she use the old one from her old gateway or e-machine? If she can, that means she'll have to know which button are which with respect to the apple button and option, so I may just go ahead and buy her the apple keyboard anyways.
And about the mouse, I assume any old mouse will work just fine?

Unfortunately I can only speak english and a bit of French and German, but really not that much!
    How about this?

Hi there, I just bought an iMac 2011.  Just a quick question.  Are those keyboard and mouse batteries that comes with the package are rechargeable?  Thanks!

Mine was bought last year and they were not; it they don't say "rechargeable". they're not. I started to use rechargeable as soon as the original batteries died.

  • Want Mac mini and G4 to share Display and USB keyboard and mouse

I bought a KVM switch at a local electronics store. I got the only one that claimed Mac compatibility (PPA Int'l). I can't plug the switch into the G4 Cube. No such ports. With the adapter that accompanied my brand new Mac Mini, I can plug the KVM monitor port into the mini's monitor port, BUT that port is currently being used by the Apple DVI-to-ADC adapter I bought so I can connect my Cinema Display to the Mac mini.
The KVM switch wants 3 ports on each computer: a VGA (monitor) port, the keyboard port, and the mouse port; but the keyboard/mouse connectors are not USB.
As things stand--without the switch--I can shut down whatever computer I'm working on (mini or Cube), unplug the display from one, connect it to the other, power up and everything's fine. I suppose the only advantage with the KVM switch is being able to power off, switch, then power on without having to move the display plug.
My QUESTION is, does anybody manufacture a KVM switch I can use between two Macintosh computers to share use of my USB keyboard powered from a USB port on the display, and my USB mouse powered from a USB port on the keyboard?
Or is the answer NOT to go for the convenience of a KVM switch?
Does it matter that the mini OS is Leopard, and the Cube OS is Tiger?
I am heartily impressed with the mini. Setup was over in 5 minutes, and I must say it's fast. Appreciate any help from the experts. --Spot

I had the same problem, and finally came up with two other alternative solutions.
First, if you have a recent LCD monitor, it is fairly simple and cheap. The Mini has a digital connection for the monitor. My G4 400 MHz has both digital and analog connections. I have a Samsung 19 inch widescreen monitor that has both a digital and an analog input. I connected the G4 to the monitor using the analog input with my old cable, and connected the Mini using the digital input. The Samsung has a switch that will use either the digital or analog input - very easy.
Now the keyboard and mouse. I got a 6 foot USB cable with the A plug on one end and B plug on the other, plugged the A plug end into the G4, and ran the cable with the B plug up near the Mini. It helps to keep it close. You already have the keyboard/mouse plugged into the Mini. You simply unplug the keyboard cable from the Mini, and plug it into the B plug from the G4. Switch the monitor from digital to analog, and you have the G4 (remember to start it up). Once you have run the cables, it takes about 10 seconds to make the switch.
Second, and I use both ways, is to get an inexpensive wired router. I bought a Belkin 4 port router (about $30, I think), got a couple Cat 5 cables, hooked both the Mini and G4 up to the router, along with my internet connection, and have both computers available on one monitor with no physical switching involved. You will need to go to System Preferences/Sharing and turn on Personal File Sharing (there may be another change, but I can't remember it right now).
When all is hooked up, you go to GO in the Finder Menu Bar (make sure the G4 is booted before doing this) click on either NETWORK or CONNECT TO SERVER, find your G4 and connect. It may be confusing the first few times, but it works great because you have access to both computers at once, along with your internet connection - the best of both worlds!
I did this in January of this year, so please forgive me if I have forgotten a step somewhere. Ask me and I'll be glad to try to walk you through it. The first solution is the simplest to do, and the second in the most versatile. It's your choice.
Hope this helps. Just don't be intimidated by it - if I can figure it out, we can get you connected. Good luck!

  • When I disable my left windows key for gameing using Microsoft keyboard and mouse software, I can no longer type in firefox. How can i fix this?

Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Software that you install with Microsoft keyboard and mice, (latest version) allows you to disable your windows key so that you don't accidentally hit it when gaming. When I take advantage of this feature, I can no longer type in Firefox. Typing in Firefox is completely disabled. Other browsers, windows, applications work, but not Firefox. What is it about the windows key that firefox needs for typing. Strange problem, but annoying because I have to use a different browser while game. Certainly not a deal breaker, but kinda strange.

  • Using USB Keyboard and Mouse with S6000-f Ideatab

First you need a Microusb to USB adaptor pluged in, then plug in a usb hub I'm using a 4 port unpowered mini hub
then plug in a usb keyboaed and mouse.
it works good in Kingsoft office and AndrOpen office or any app that needs you to type
it does disable the touch pad keyboard, until you unplug the usb keyboard.  It's alot cheaper than a blue tooth keyboard
I'm using a Samsung micro usb to usb connector model EPL-AU10WEGXAR
Keyboards tested:  Dynex usb and Acer usb
    Mouse tested: Kingston usb
Any usb keyboard and Mouse should work.
Also I tested a Thumb drive. Sandisk 8gig  it shows up in the file manager .
So you dont have to use a MicoSD card.  The one thing  back up and restore only uses the MicroSD card slot.
I havent found out how to change that yet.
I dont think any of this is in the Manual   I just like to share useful Info.

  • Macbook pro does not respond to bluetooth keyboard and mouse at login screen

i've seen this question floating around and i don't think i've found one that has been resolved. i'm hoping someone may have an answer by now.
i do not have this issue when i boot into windows 7 (bootcamp) the macbook pro responds to keyboard input and mouse input immediately on the windows 7 login screen. when i boot into mac, there is no response from either. i've seen suggestions of waiting for 30 secods. i still get nothing after waiting for over a minute.
what i do right now is use the built-in touch pad and keyboard of the macbook pro to get past the login screen. once i'm logged in, i can see that the bluetooth devices are not yet connected (the three dots that go across the bluetooth symbol at the top right of the screen are not yet there). then after a while, maybe about half a minute, the bluetooth keyboard and mouse are connected and i can use them normally.
it is not a big deal but it is very annoying.
i am using a logitech bluetooth mouse (v740) and an adesso bluetooth keyboard (wkb-4000bm). i also tried an azio bluetooth keyboard and had the same issue. all these keyboards are made for mac.
    thannks in advance.

just a correction, the keyboard and mouse don't always automatically reconnect once i'm logged in. most of the time i have to go click the bluetooth icon at the top right of my screen, select the mouse and then select "connect". i have to do the same to the keyboard.

  • Keyboard and mouse not working correctly after installing Windows 8.1

I was forced to upgrade my computer to Windows 8.1. My keyboard worked fine until the sytem did a reboot. Numbers on keypad stopped typing and letters were being capitalized when the caps lock was off and the numbers across the top will only type the symbol above the numbers.
I looked up this problem and it seems I need to enter UEFI settings and disable Intel XHCI mode. When I get into the UEFI settings I cannot make any selection from the startup menu. Both my keyboard and mouse stop working.
    Any suggestions?

  • My new mac mini doesn't detect my wireless keyboard and mouse from logitech

I recently bought the Logitech MK550 wireless keyboard and mouse combo for my late 2014 Mac mini.  Basic functions work, however, when I try to add the keyboard and mouse in the System Preferences it can't find either one.  So right now I have this great big keyboard that I can only use about half it's full functionality and an unassigned button on the mouse.  Any ideas?  Also, I would like to add an apple remote to my mini.  I have one from my old iMac.  Is this possible?

    Try resetting the SMC.
    Question #2 - I have no idea.
