Newbee: messages and Facetime stopped working

I got my referbished Ipod 4th gen May 2nd. I used facetime and messaging both ways to my son, I didnt try again untill Today, Now I get, not delevered on any messages except to myself and nobody else can message me either facetime times out and nobody can call me. I can use the net and email without problems I can also use talkaton to make ip calls without problems. I have to assume it has something to do with my apple account. I tried to restore defaults but no help.

I found the answer, For Others. I had to change my DNS server to google. 8.8.8.8
Then everything worked. I must have done it when I first got it and reset it later.\But now my dns is 8.8.8.8

Have you tried re-booting your WiFi router ?  It may seem OK on your PC, but a re-boot may help.

  • IMessage and FaceTime stops working in iMac after carrier change

    Hi all,
I have done a fair bit of googling and had a look at the discussion history here but couldn't find a solution to my problem. Apology if it has been raised and discussed before and I woud appreciate being re-directed to the thread.
I have got iMessage and Face Time running smoothly on my iPad 2 wi-fi, iphone 4S and iMac OX 10.8.4. However, on the day of my changing carrier (17/09/2013), iMessage and FaceTime stopped working on my iMac as well as iPad 2. It can longer recieve or send messages or receive or make Face Time calls. All the settings looked the same - tick mark next to both my Apple ID email and mobile number, and conversation has always been set to start from mobile number on all devices. iMessage and FaceTime continue to work on iphone 4S without any issues. New sim card but same mobile number. I don't worry too much about the iPad. I just want to make it work again on my iMac and appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Steps I have attempted to make iMessage work again (I left Face Time turned off on iphone and iMac during this time)
    0) I disabled/removed Bonjour (GTalk) in iMessage setting in iMac
    1) I have turned off iMessage and FaceTime on all devices and swtiched iMessage only back on in iphone 4S first and then iMac. I got the message on my iphone that the iMac will start using the mobile number and Apple ID to send iMessages. However, iMac still fails to send or receive messages.
    2) I have updated Apple ID on the web (removed the phone number, saved, and then re-entered phone number assoicated with Apple ID). Then repeat #1
    3) I have tried changing "start new conversation from Apple ID email" across all devices - did not resolve anything
    4) I have added a friend's Apple ID in iMessage on my iMac -mobile number automatically appeared and tick marks for both her mobile and Apple ID email but unable to send or recieve messages still while it continues to work from her iphone
    5) I have also done a PRAM reset - I got the 2 chimes - did not resolve the issue
There's a clear trigger for this problem - change of carrier but I don't understand why it is affecting the iMac (and ipad) but not the iphone itself. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do about it?
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi,
At the OS X 10.8.2 update things regarding the iMessages Account's login were changed.
It now requires that the Mac's Serial Number is held in the Memory for it on the Logic Board.
It can get missed in Refurbishments and Repairs.
This is used to generate the Auth-Token for your Apple ID in the Keychain.
Go to Application/Utilities and open Keychain Access.
In the Login Keychain look for "IDS: (Your Apple ID)-AuthToken"
Double clicking this will open the Info Panel.
Check the Access tab and make sure it is either allowing Any App or lists Messages, IMCore and those in this pic.
Although it is know that the Mac has to list the Serial Number it is not clear if other info is needed.
It is possible that it also refers to your Public IP address in some way, this would seem unlikely as most people's ISP issued IP address is from a DHCP server - you basically keep the same IP as you are "Always On" between the router and the ISP but it can change.
If it is not allowing access then change the settings.
There are also two .plists that contain the word imessages
One of these refers to the server you connect to.
com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist contains the Info you have in the Preferences of Messages (Apple ID, Linked iPhone Numbers and any additional emails)
com.apple.imessage.bag.plist contains which server at iMessages you connect to.
I would try deleting (drag to Trash) the second of these and then restarting Messages.
If that does not work Quit Messages and delete the AuthToken for your Apple ID (if the AuthToken appeared to be allowing access above.)
    Restart Messages.

Please check your network connection and try again." I always make sure im connected to the internet and i have tried it over and over and it still says the same thing. I tried changing my password and it never worked. Its an ipod touch 5th gen 32gb, Can anyone help. iOS 7.1.2

SeeiOS: Troubleshooting Messages and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3367 for tips on troubleshooting Messages and FaceTime.

  • Why won't the messages and facetime app work?

I refuse to believe that the only fix for this is to do all the behind the scenes stuff to change out certain aspects of apps.  I would think that because messages and facetime come built into 10.8.2.  I believe that it is on apple's shoulders to fix this with an update or maybe just an updated messages and facetime app.

I had my messages and facetime in a folder inside applications, once I copied and pasted the new apps into the folder and clicked replace, they worked just fine, maybe some of you have done the same thing!

  • Messages and FaceTime not working

Messages and FaceTime on my MacBook Pro OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 are no longer working. When opened an error message saying an internal error occurred and messages/FaceTime should be quit and reopened appears. I've tried this and the same message appears. I can't open preferences for messages or FaceTime now and have tried other trouble shooting recommended. I can still use both on my iPad and iPhone with the same iCloud account.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test iMessage while in safe mode. FaceTime won't work. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Messages/Phone/FaceTime Stopped Working

So about 5 days ago, Messages on my Mac stopped updating/syncing/whatever. None of the texts I've received (SMS or iMessage) are showing up, and any attempts to send messages (again, both SMS and iMessage) result in the "Not Delivered" error. Also, phone calls, both regular and FaceTime, do not show up on my Mac. Everything works fine between my iPad and phone, but my Mac seems to have just been shoved out of the loop.
I tried quitting and restarting Messages, then rebooting the system, then signing out of and back into iCloud. Nothing has changed on the system since it stopped working.
Other relevant things I can think of: as far as I can tell everything else iCloud related is working on Yosemite. I have double-checked, and all of my emails and my phone number are checked as active in the "You can be reached for messages at" section of the app's settings. I recently installed Little Snitch, but that was way before I started having the Messages problem, and I've since turned it off to see if that would help (it didn't).

    Hey BenBaccarat,
I understand that you are expereincing some issues when attempting to use Messages in Yosemite. I have a couple of resources for you that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue further. First, see this article about using features of Yosemite behind a firewall, such as Little Snitch:

  • Which ports need to be open for messages and facetime to work properly?

I noticed that Messages no longer works since upgrading to Yosemite on my work network. But it did when i was in Mavericks. Did they change something in Messages in the upgrade that would cause it to no longer work? ports?
I'm behind my work firewall, which ports need to be open for messages to work properly?

Just make sure your 9001 port is open.

I have an iphone 4 iOS 7.0.3 and FaceTime stopped working around 12th April 2014. This is the same for other members of my family (using another iphone 4, an iphone 4s and an iPad). As soon as FaceTime connects it drops the call immediately. Does anyone else have this issue?

  • Imessages and facetime not working on ipad 3 mini since update to 8.3

brand new ipad 3 mini i-messages and facetime was working until update to IOS 8.3. can anyone help. I've restored ipad and set up as new but still same.

If none of this suggestions help, you are in the same boat a bunch of us are in! We all have newish devices (mostly iPad mini 3) and suddenly can't get into FaceTime or Messages. There's no slider and the sign in just dumps us back to sign in or gives a network error message.
If that's what's happening, it's probably an AppleID problem. Mine isn't working for FaceTime or Messages on any iPad, but my friend's works on mine. If you go to page 18, you will see what we've tried after 8.2 upgrade

  • IMessage and FaceTime not working for over a day now - iPad2

I updated my iPad 2 to ios 6 on the 27th, everything worked fine on the 28th but my iMessage and FaceTime stopped working since the 29th. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I have practically tried everything but nothing seems to work. I am so frustrated. Is it my iPad's problem or is it Apple's? I would appreciate any suggestion and help. Thanks.

  • Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. Please help

Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. I came across forums where this issue is mentioned on apple support and cnet.
Is there another option apart from upgrading ?

Well, in his defense, his parents bought him the player so I guess we can't blame him. Though the 6 GB versions were available in November so I guess they really did get 'nervous' about Christmas and like to get their shopping done early! Kudo's to you for trying to remain with the Creative line but for what you're looking for it's obviously not the player for you. Creative seems to be fine-tuning their line for the audio crowd. I'm into mp3 players for the audio. Sure, the ability to watch video's and look at pictures on a decent screen is a plus but for me at least, it's all about the music. And with music, 6 GB is more than enough. Heck, 8 GB would have been more than enough for me. I'm a subscriber to Napster-to-go, so I don't feel the need to carry 00 plus GB of stuff on my portable player. I honestly don't understand the desire to watch movies or TV shows on tiny little screens. But you're also talking to a guy who doesn't watch television. What a complete waste of time and brain cells. Probably the **competitor products we can't discuss here** or one of those players would better suit your needs. Companies are definately picking their niche markets carefully and Creative's decision to not offer hard dri've players any more seems to definately be saying bye-bye to that market. I can't say I blame them. Hard dri'ves eventually give up the ghost and are quite delicate for people on the go. Good ridance, I say. Let Apple, Zune and all the others cater to the Z generation's need to be spoonfed their video/TV addictions anywhere and everywhere. I'll pass. It's one thing to be able to enjoy some music on the go and enhance an otherwise dull work day or dri've. But movies/TV shows at work, school, or wherever? Please. Cut the cord! Just my $.02 - YMMV! • IMessage and FaceTime not working on Mac Pro and message stating to contact Support came on

iMessage and FaceTime not working on Mac Pro and a message stating to contact Support came on with a verification code.  It was working on 8/29 but stopped on 8/30.  When I called support to even speak with anyone they wanted $19.  I don't want to pay $19 for an Apple problem.  I cleared my key chain, also reset my apple ID password but still not working.  Works fine on my iPhone.

There is no official public documentation of that error message as far as I know, but according to reports, it can mean (at least sometimes) that the same Apple ID is being used with the iTunes Store or one of the other Apple content stores, and the payment method is invalid. Sign in to the store and review your account. You do not, of course, have to provide any billing information to set up an account to use only with iMessage, as it's a free service.
Otherwise, do what the error message tells you to do. According to reports, you won't be charged for the call if you select "Apple ID" as the product you need support for, and cite the customer code in the alert as the "validation code" to the support representative.

Every time I TRY to start firefox 18-19 I get an error message : "Firefox has stopped working" - "close the program and check online for a solution" - or - "close the program" this happens TWICE every time I try to start firefox. Eventually after a random number of tries firefox will start normaly. I have tried a Clean reinstall but it did not help.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.
