Newbee No Ipod but want to build library

I want to import my existing cds into library. I am connected to the internet, but the itunes won't transfer over song or album info. When I disconnect from internet. album loads with tracks but no titles. What is best way to get my Cds into I tunes?

Put yor CD in, click on the CD icon and in the top right hand corner you will see an upload disc button, click on that, then wait for it to download. Go to library and highlight the songs that do not have names (hold down shift and click on all of them,) go to the advanced option on the top bar and click on 'get CD track names'. You need to be linked onto the internet to do the second part.

  • Set up new 5th generation ipod but want to keep using old4th generation one

I have just bought a beautiful new 5th gereration ipod as a gift for my partner, which I want to fill with the music from my library.
The ipod is still untouched in its box. Can anyone please tell me how to set it up for the first time, so that my itunes recognises the new ipod, but after loading it with music I can keep using itunes with my old 4th generation ipod?
    Thanks!!

Sorry, by saying it was untouched in its box I tried to describe in short that I had not done any kind of set up procedere with it. It's true, I took it out once, connected it to the computer, but nothing happened, it was not detected by the computer. I didn't think this was a problem, just thought this was normal and that I had to somehow 'set up' the ipod for the first time before I could load it with music. Now thanks to your help I know how it should have worked. I'll try the solutions offered in the article you gave me. Thanks!!

  • Music on iPod but deleted from iTunes Library

Hello, please help... I have accidently deleted 36GB of music from my external hard drive although currently the music is on my iPod (classic). I do have all the DVD's and CD's but do not want to download them all again. Is there anyway I can download the music that is on my iPod back to my PC or external hard drive? I am terrified of plugging my iPod back into my PC (which is showing an empty library) for fear that the music will also get deleted from my iPod.
Also, reason this happened is that everytime I added music to external hard drive - and then "Add folder to Library" - I would end up with duplicates showing in my iTunes Library.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone

Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    YamiPod Mac & Windows

iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Songs in Ipod but not in itunes library. no option to back up so i can restore. Will someone please help me?

Ok, see, i was dowloading some songs off of http://www.youtube-mp3.org. I dragged the songs into my itunes library, but when i looked, they weren't in there. so i looked at my ipod and the songs i downloaded were on it! i dont know how either! i tried to back up my downloaded songs so i could restore it to see if that would help, but there wasn't an option for me to back up my ipod when i right clicked on it. i looked atsome of the other forums about the "AppData" solution. it said to delete the corrupted file if there was one, but i dont know what to look for. can someone please help me? this is driving me crazy.

  • All CDs deleted from iPod but still in iTunes library. help?

So i imported some more CDs to my iTunes and it wouldn't let me drag and drop it to sync. Nothing happened whenever i did that. I ended up pressing sync and it deleted all of my CDs from my iPod 5th generation. they're still in my library, but I have no clue how to get them back on my iPod. i keep dragging them and dropping them but nothing is happening. I also restored a backup, but it was still the same. I'm getting frustrated because the CDs account for most of my music on my iPod. Any help would be much appreciated!

You can't sync and use Match
    This
iTunes Match on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    includes:
When you enable iTunes Match on your iOS device, the music library on your iOS device will be deleted and replaced with your music in iCloud.
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.

  • Mac Formatted Ipod but want to listen through Itunes at work (PC)

    Hi,
I have a mac formatted ipod that I sync up with my powerbook at home. However, my new job is PC based, and I want to listen to my ipod through my computer speakers so I can keep it plugged in to charge if needed.
I first tried to actually connect the ipod through itunes, but it won't read it since it's mac formatted.
So I thought, no worries, I don't need it to go through itunes, I can just plug in from the headphone jack to the microphone on the computer and manipulate through the buttons on the ipod. But when I did that, I got no sound in my headphones (which are connected to the output jack of my computer and do work, as I've been streaming radio for the past few weeks).
I know I had done this at a previous job years ago, but I can't remember how I connected (although I was pretty sure it was the ipod to power in the wall, headphone jack to computer microphone, earphones from computer speakers)
Any thoughts onto why the headphone/speaker jack connection would not work? Or any ideas of how to connect the ipod through itunes so I might have better luck? Thanks!

There are couples way to do it :-
    1. Install xplay with your PC, then your iTunes will read your iPod
    2. You can buy a headphone mini jack splinter, and have it between the computer audio out and the speakers i.e. the computer speakers picking two different inputs one from the computer and the other from iPod
    3. Is there a selection of an audio input with your PC? I am not sure about it, but I can do it with my Mac

  • Certain artists, albums not showing on ipod but do show in Library.  Why?

My 60 gb ipod is synced with my Itunes library - which has all my cd's downloaded into it. However, even though an artist or album may show in my Itunes library, it doesn't show on my ipod.
For instance Maroon 5 Songs About Jane CD doesn't show when I search Maroon 5 in Artists or Maroon 5 in Genre but it does show when I look up the album name in Album. With nearly 1000 albums on my ipod, I'm not always able to remember an album name.
    How do I fix this?
    Compaq Presario   Windows XP
    Compaq Presario   Windows XP
    Compaq Presario   Windows XP

This is a very annoying problem that I have encountered myself. The only way I found to fix this is in iTunes (when the iPod is connected) to go into the iPod's music list to where the artist is and edit the artist's name (this can also be done with the track title as well). Sometimes there is an extra space at the end of the name, or even before hand. Just make sure it's the proper name/title and that there aren't any unwanted spaces added to it. Once you do this, the iPod should recognize that the song is there when it's disconnected.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Given old ipod but want to keep the songs

My old nano bit the dust and when my daughter got a new Ipod Touch this Christmas she gave me her old ipod nano....I want to keep some or all of her music and the music I have on my library...how do I do this??? Or am I able to do this?

You will not lose the songs that are in your iTunes account, it will sync them to your Nano. It will erase all the songs that are currently on the Nano as they are not in your library. If you change the settings on the Nano on her computer and set it up to manually manage your music you can then manually add the songs to her iPod without losing anything.
As I said earlier, and as you've restated, these are her songs and Apple does not provide a means on the iPod itself, or within iTunes to transfer the songs from the iPod to your computer (or to leave them on the iPod) due to music piracy reasons.
With that disclaimer you might want to use Google and look up Yamipod.

  • Wanna buy iPod,but want to know..

I was thinking of buying the new iPod with 30GB (Black box with U2 Video and Gorillaz album play) and i wanted to ask some questions here before buying it..please?^^
1.The most important thing is about music into folders..example: i access into the Music folder inside the iPod (Saw some pics..) and i want to add a Folder for a soundtrack..inside this folder there are 2 other folders (aka CD1 n 2)..
    The Structure would be like:
    Music/SoundTrackFolder/CD1
    -----------------------CD2
Question: is the iTunes (or the transfer program?) able to transfer these folders with the plenty of songs inside 'em to the iPod?..
2.1.About the volume control...i haven't seen any controls to raise/lower the volume at the main iPod front..where are 'em?..
2.2.I've heard that one of the iPod accessories have a "Next Song/Pause/Volume control for the player (Something people wishes to have on normal MP3's but don't..)..is it true? <<
3.Display: Does it haves options like layout change, colour and stuff?
3.2: My sis has a Mini-Mac and i tested it for a week..it seems to have Animated menus..since iPod is from APPLE,does it has kind of animations?..like when u choose a song/Folder and the green bar highlights or it goes in a tween motion between menus or something?
    4.Firmware/iPod internal updates:
after looking around the whole forum of iPod,i've seen lots of people telling their problems with their iPods...if i bought one, what would i have to do first?..
I guess that's enough for now..please,answer me as soon as you can ^_^

    1) You can only organize music into playlists. (It is already organized by artist, album, genre, etc.) You can have folders with playlists in iTunes, but those don't transfer to the iPod.
You would have to import the music in those folders into iTunes and organize it in iTunes.
2.2) Are you talking about something like a wired remote?
    3) When you select an option (Like music, or playlist), it slides to the next menu. (The new screen sliding in from the left to the right)
4)Most people don't experience problems. This is a support forum. Of course you will see people experiencing problems. No one comes here to say everything is fine If you go to a hospital, you may think that many people are sick. That is not necessarily true
Anyhow, to not experience problems, follow the instructions Make sure you install everything and follow the on screen instructions when you insert the CD.
    This is the latest software...
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
If you install the iPod Updater and iTunes, there is no need to install what is on the CD. (The CD does have the manual and other information)
Also, when you get your iPod go to settings-->about. Make sure the software version is 1.1.1, which is the most up to date version. (If it is not, open the iPod updater you downloaded, connect the iPod, and click update)
Post back if you are confused, want more info, or have any other questions!

  • I have duplicate songs displaying on my Ipod but not in my library.

I have an Ipod Touch, Itunes 10.5.33. I have duplicate songs showing up on my Touch, however, there are no duplicate songs in my library on my pc. as best as I can tell at this point, these duplicate songs on my Touch are purchased songs and I have only purchased them once. any ideas as to how to get rid of the duplicate entries on my Ipod?

I had this problem too. You just have to plug in your iPod to your computer. On the summary, there is a box that says "Manually manage music and videos". Uncheck that box. You now can add and remove music to your iPod without iTunes forcing anything. This also means that checks next to songs in your iTunes Library mean nothying while you are in that mode for that device (if this pressures you, you can re-check that box later). ANYWAY! So once you uncheck that box and click "Apply" in the lower right corner, you then open the drop down menu on your iPod's name on the sidebar and click music. This is a list of all of the music on your device. You now simply delete all of the doubles (this won't delete the songs from your iTunes Library. Your iPod will sync every time you delete a song. Once completed and you see no doubles on the list, you have the option to re-check the box with the automatic downloads (if you want) and your doubles will be GONE GONE GONE!
    Thank you for choosing Apple.

  • Connecting friends ipod to download my itunes library

just wondering if you can do this...we have the same 30GB video ipod, but want to be able to connect their ipod to my computer so that they can have all the songs from my library on their ipod & I have itunes set up on the manual setting for my ipod... help needed!!!
    30GB Video iPod   Windows XP

Well, you aren't supposed to do it, but with the both iPods set on Manual, just drag and drop the songs you want onto the iPod. If you want the entire library, and have enough space available, With the music library open, click a song, press CTRL+A to hilight the entire library, and drag the music over to the iPod. Easy.

  • HT1386 I am re-building my iTunes library, but still have all the content on my iPod Classic.  I have just downloaded some songs from the store and want to add them to the iPod, BUT when i attempt this the message asks if I want to delete all content on t

I am rebuilding my iTunes library, but still have all the old content on my iPod Classic.  I have just download some songs from the iStore and want to add them to the iPod, BUT when I try to sync it asks if I want to delete all content from the iPod and add only the material that I have just downloaded from the Store.  I do not want to lose my old content, because it is very extensive.

You are trying to sync to other than the one iTunes library you can sync to. You can copy music from multiple library/computer if you use the manual method of syncing. That method is described here
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
If you want to make this computer/iTunes library your syncing computer/library you have to restore the iPod on this computer/library. Restoring erases the iPod.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
To copy other music to the computer see:

  • I am trying to sync my ipod but it keeps saying that a previous library exists and that I can only sync it to one library.  I want to sync it to the previous library but how do I get it to go there?

I am trying to sync my ipod but it keeps saying that a previous library exists and that I can only sync to one library.  I want to sync it to the original library bc that is the one that has all songs.  It keeps giving me a library with just songs that I have bought on itunes.  I never created a new library so I am not sure why it is doing this.  How do I get it to sync to my original library?  I have already tried to restore a previous version of itunes but that did not help.

It appears that something happened to yur computer/iTunes files.  It happens sometimes.  To recovery:
    - Import the old music into the current iTunes library
    - Make sure all the apps are also in the library
    - If in the USA and therplaces where iCloud has benn released you can redownload most iTunes puchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - You can always redownload apps at no additional cost as long as you are singned into the same iTunes account the originally purchased them.
    - After all the suff in in the iTunes library, make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes.
    - Restore the iPod from backup and restore as necessary.
