Newbee question - save as flv

I managed to make a simple animation and now want to save as flv or fl4. I looked at the various Save As and Export choices under the File menu, but don't see a way to save as flv or fl4.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can help.

I don't think you can create a .flv/f4v with Flash, they are video container formats.
If it's just a simple animation, I'd suggest you try "Export" as an .avi and then use Flash Media Encoder to transcode to .flv/f4v. FME should be a part of your Flash Suite:

But check the .avi after export... somethings don't export completely.

Using Sothink video downloader, normally by default my video files are save in FLV extension. Now for whatever reason suddenly my video files are save in .ebm extension & I can't open my video file. "Save file Type As" -to select file extension does not seem to work -

It's a WEBM video file. My solution was to rename the file to have .webm extension, and play it with the latest VLC Player (2.1, but I think any from 1.1 and upper will solve it too). Just associate .ebm with VLC didn't work. I had to rename the files so VLC knew exactly what that thing was.
By the way, it worked the same way with a .eam file (!), I just renamed the extension to .webm.

Save as flv/f4v missing in menu

The option to save as flv/f4v was available in my soundbooth cs4 File menu, but after a re-install (os to windows 7) the option is gone. I only have 'save as ... .asnd, .wma, .wmv, mp3, wav, mov, avi and aif'.
Is there a plugin or something I need installed in order for this option to become available to me, I am working with cuepoints so need to be able to export to this format. I have flash Cs4 and quicktime 7 installed.
Anybody have a solution?

Never got the option to saves as flv/f4v back in my soundbooth cs4 menu, but here's a
work around for anyone else needing a fast solution to this bizarre installation feature -
Place your markers as usual in soundbooth. Save your file, in this case it's a common wav format.
Export your markers (File>export>markers) this will generate an xml file which describes your injected cue points.
Open Adobe Media Encoder (which should be there with your flash cs4 installation)
Add your wav file, make sure format is flv|f4v, click on the orange preset information, expand your options by clicking on the the circle with the vertical arrows in.
Choose flv as your export format and adjust the other settings as you please, unfortunately it seems you have to export some video (I just needed the audio though, so I made the video export options really low like resize = 50 x50)
The on the left of adobe media encoder under the 'black' video preview click on the little stiffy disk icon to load in the marker xml file you created from soundbooth (you can also add markers from this section of the app).
Export you flv file.
Open flash, create a new project, choose file>import video. Choose the AME encoded flv file, set the skin to none, and import it. With the video selected on the stage you can make sure that the cuepoints were loaded in by opening windows>component inspector - the markers should be listed there.
Go ahead and work with markers using your metadataEvent and some switch statements in the listener.
Hope this helps, I will let you know when someday my option to do this directly from soundbooth will magically re-appear .

I had the same problem... convert it to a BufferedImage (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=665744&tstart=15), then use javax.imageio.ImageIO.write to save it to a file.

Why I can no longer save videos (*.flv) from my cache folder?

Até o Firefox 3.6.16 eu conseguia salvar um vídeo (*.flv), do Youtube por exemplo, a partir da pasta cache. Por que não posso mais fazê-lo no Firefox 4.0?
A partir disso, desinstalei o Firefox 4.0, voltei para o antigo. E quando não puder mais usar a versão 3.6.16 passarei a usar o IE, já que na versão 8.0.6001.18702 ainda consigo fazer o salvamento de vídeos.

it is way more convenient just to get the cached videos (not just from youtube) from the cache folder... no encoding/downloading/converting because the file is already there!
I don't get it why Mozilla decided to hide the .flv files from cache... makes me want to change browser :(

Newbee question - Headers Footer and menus

What is the current, best practice for building a web site with consistent menus, headers and footers etc.
I have read good and bad about SSI, and Dreamweaver libraries etc, and would like to know where folks in the industry turn to complete this kind of task.
I did a really simple site with php, www.canvasdoctors.com but someone told me that how I did that was overkill and not correct.
I hope i have been clear.

Now, I was just using the canvas site as an experiment.
And my question does not reallt relate to that site but more generically to the whole web design world.
If you were to start a whole new site, that would have lots of content, what technology is the latest and best way of managing the properties i spoke of and would allow for easy modifications to the entire site by only editing once?

Newbee question (first of many though)

As soon as I can break through the initial intimidation I hope to begin learning Lightroom and cataloging my 15k+ images. Before I dive in though I'd like to begin with a handful of images and see how the program and my workflow (to be determined) will work. If I begin with an external flash drive and let's say 100 images just to learn a few things can I safely delete all traces and tracks of those images in the program before I begin my major work or is it advisable to simply uninstall the program then reinstall a fresh copy? Thanks. Looking forward to everyones help and generosity.

Hi andyboy2. I believe your question is quite easily resolved. To remove a photo from the catalog, right click it in the film strip or grid view (in any module) This will bring up a series of choices, one of which is 'delete photo....' Clicking on this brings up a dialog box that gives you the choice of deleting the photo from disk (your hard drive) or just removing it from the catalog. Choose either the 'Delete from Disk' button for the 'Remove' button. (There is also a cancel button) Good Luck. LR is a lot to wrap your head around at first.

Why Won't My Security Questions Save?

Everytime I try to download an app, it wants me to answer some security questions. I do, and then I click "Done". Then it says "Sorry. There was an error in the process of saving your information." After that is stops downloading the app. Is there any way to fix this, or do I have to contact iTunes myself (which I really don't want to do!)?

I know that there is a "Save as PDF (Send as Review)" option that allows the client to review and comment but once the client has sent back the comments, how do you import those comments back into FrameMaker?

Xcode newbee question

Hi I'm new to xcode programming. But I'm starting to build an application for mac using xcode.
I can get the application to work, but there are several questions that I cannot resolve by myself.
First of all, how can I make the application to be "Universal Binary"?
Also, when I use the Interface Builder, I make my own classes, say "MAfoo." And write it out to xcode. But after I write down the class codes and modify them in xcode, whenever I make changes to Interface Builder, how can I change the previous version of codes without overriding the codes that I have written.
I'm sorry if my question is vague.

Brian is correct that universal binary is the default for Xcode 3, but make sure you're using the Release build configuration. The Debug build configuration cannot build universal binaries.

You have to make the changes in Xcode. When you tell Interface Builder to write class files, it overwrites any existing class files.
A common situation is adding outlets and actions to your classes. What you have to do is open the header file in Xcode (MAfoo.h in your example) and add the outlets and actions. If you have your Xcode project open, the outlets and actions you added in Xcode will appear in Interface Builder.

How do i change the setting so that when i close windows with multiple tabs, they will ask questions ' save pages' or 'quit' or 'cancel'.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"

Newbee - question fpr scripting

Hi, I'm new to scripting Acrobat and JavaScript (besides some Web-JS), but familiar to scripting InDesign (CS to CS3 with AppleScript). Now I'm on the challenge to do some Acrobat scripting.
Please let me know, if my problem could basicallybe solved with Acrobat scripting and please give me a bit of a startup.
I want to create an image check. Distiller converts the images to PDF. So I need to access the image in the PDF and extract information like: resolution, dimensions, color space, color profile.
I expect some problems, when pixel images where placed into a vector graphic. So I need the information, that blabla.eps is vector graphic, but contains pixel images with resolution, dimension, color space, color profile.
Do I have a chance to do such a thing by scripting?
Or does anybody has some other solution to this?

What you are looking to do cannot be achieved through script, but could be accomplished in C/C++ as a plug-in with the freely available Acrobat SDK.
