Newbi needs help installing GPIB card

I "inherited" a PC at work with a Nat Inst PCI GPIB+ card in it, but
no software and I can't seem to talk to it or the HP8753 spectrum
analyzer connected to it. I installed Labview 6.1 from a CD. I
downloaded NI488 ver 1.7 from the NatInst web site, which installed
MAX. MAX sees the GPIB card in "Devices and Interfaces", but when I
click on it and "scan for instruments", I get an error, saying the
card is not configured correctly. When I go thru the configuration in
MAX, I select the board type as PCI GPIB+, but don't see any serial
number listed. Nothing I do seems to configure the card so I can "scan
for instruments" and see the spectrum analyzer.
What am I missing?

Thanks for the info.I'll try it and let you know. I'll remove the
board, uninstall the software, reinstall the software, and then
install the board and see if that works. Then I'll look at BIOS stuff.

Total newbie needs help installing and setting up Solaris 10 as a server

i'm attempting to set up one computer to act as a file and print server on my home network, so that i can store all of my music and video files on it instead and print to my parallel-only laser printer. 80% of the time i'm using my laptop, so i need the mass storage and printer to be handled by another device - the server!
i'm not sure if i'm even installing Solaris 10 correctly. how should it be installed to then act as a server? my two (incredibly long, like 3+ hours each) install attempts so far have resulted in an OS that looks like a nice fancy GUI-laden desktop which doesn't appear to show me my 750G SATA storage drive (the OS is on a 40G IDE drive).
in the end, i'd like to have the system working so that my only interaction with it is the power button - press it once to power it on and it'll boot up and long in automagically and make itself seen over the network (with printer and files stored on drives accessible to my laptop or any other PC that's on the same network), and then press the power button again to shut down the entire system gracefully (so far, when i press the power button, it's a quick kill like pulling the power cord - i'm pretty sure that's a bad way of having the system shut down, so how do i change it?)
i'm really hoping to use Solaris due to the promising ZFS scheme. my only exposure so far to unix / linux has been with ubuntu, which i usually like but sometimes loathe (primarily file permissions and network manager).

Let's try step by step rather than asking for setting up a server as a while and I'll try to help you as much as I can.
For setting up a printer, it's not that easy or quick setting up a printer on Solaris, I mean it's not like plug-n-play. Tell us about your printer and how it's connected to your system (usb, ethernet, parallel, serial).
As for shutting down the system, it's recommended to use the shutdown commnad like this:
# shutdown -y -i0 -g0
--gibb

NEWBIE NEED HELP INSTALLING SOLARIS 8

I have a Sparc 20 workstation and having difficulty setting the OS. I have download the installation CD and the 2 software CDs. During the installation, when it gets to the kiosk, there should be a welcome screen asking to insert the first software cd. I have never get to this point. All I receive is a warning. If and when I reboot the sparc, the following error shows " time out waiting for ARP and RARP packet.

Thnx for all the help guys. After reading through the forum, I have managed to solve my issue. This is how I install the Solaris 8 on my sparc 20 workstation.
1. Put in the "First Software CD". Don't network it yet, do it after the installation.
"NOTE: IGNORE THE INSTALLATION CD."
2.Reboot the machine.
3. If the OS does not boot up, type boot disk1 and press enter
4. Type in root and password on login screen
5. Put in the "Second Software CD" when prompted." If the second cd does not read, follow the instruction and select REBOOT.
6. Once the machine reboot, double click on the CDROM drive and install the 2nd Software CD.
Once you do these 6 steps, all is done. Now you just go back and configure it to a server.

Newbie need help installing server

Hi Guys
After a few years of working with Windows based servers and PC’s we have decided to introduce macs into the workplace. They are quite happily working on the windows network at the moment with little problems. But we want to have the macs on a separate network that is purely mac based, so we bought a mac mini server with snow leopard server I’ve been playing around and I’ve cracked DNS, DHCP and firewall. But my main problem is configuring the server to accept email and send email. Does anyone have any suggestions where to start and what i should be looking at, or if there are any good videos or guides about?

The replies from here are not instantaneous. But, your fellow users all try to respond as timely as possible.
What is your computer operating system?
From where are you downloading Premiere Elements 13....direct from Adobe as the tryout or the purchased product? If the purchased product, do you now have a purchased serial number to go with the installation files?
Where are you stopped in the installation....at the Sign In or before? Is the faulting module cited in any messages? What are the error messages?
The usual questions:
1. Are you working with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
2. Are you running the computer programs as administrator?
3. Are you working with a pen and tablet device instead of mouse?
4. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
5. Are you installing the program to the default location on the Local Disc C (if Windows).
Let us start here and then decide what next based on the details that you post. Subsequent troubleshooting may include:
deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and/or uninstall, free ccleaner run through, reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.

Your computer comes with Win 8 pre-installed but one of the steps to install/run Windows 8.1 is having updated drivers for Windows 8.1
Please, go to Control Panel -> System (or Start -> type winver and open) and verify what is your current version - if it is Windows 8 or 8.1
Windows 8 is version 6.2.x
Windows 8.1 is version 6.3.x
If Windows 8 in place, then , please read this article and enroll in the steps:

Need help installing Snow Leopard on a 2009 iMac. Hard drive is only choice for location and message says hard drive can't be used because it is used for Time Machine backups. Ultimate goal is to upgrade to OS 10.6.8.

Check to see if you have a file called backup.backupdb
If you do that means at some time in the past Time Machine was configure to backup to that drive
If that is not where you want your backup to to go, and it should not be stored there any way, then delete it and the install should work then.

You need to purchase the upgrade disk (it is a DVD). Then just put it in and run the installer. When it was first released it was $29 USD, do not know if the price has changed or not.
The usual precautions about backing up your data apply. In fact I would recommend either making a Disk Image of your current boot drive or using something like Carbon Copy Cloner to copy it to an external drive. I upgraded 5 machines from Leopard to Snow Leopard without any issues, but better to be safe than sorry.

Need help Installing Flash player 10.3 for firefox. It stops at 50%

So I have Windows Vista Basic Home, I tried updating my Flash version in firefox because it was out of date, but everytime it start downloading it , then I get the a message that says "Error " Appliation in use." I uninstalled it and followed all the suggestions on the websites nothing is working. I even uninstall google chrome thinking it was the problem but I'm still having that problem so I really don't know what to do because now the only place Flash player is installed seems to be Google chrome that I had to redoawload, but everywhere else tells me that I need to install it.
